Kumano Kodo Oasis
Irorian Minshuku is an oasis along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. It is located in the settlement of Nonaka, between Chikatsuyu village and Tsugizakura-oji. This wooden house was originally built as a small workshop to make bento lunch boxes and homemade miso before being reformed into a guesthouse. The owners are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and mountain culture. There are only two rooms on the second floor for guests, so space is limited. Meals are served around the Irori hearth. In the evening the owner shuttles guests to the nearby Hisui-no-yu hot spring bath.

- Note
● Guests are driven to the nearby Hisui-no-yu to bathe in the hot spring in the evening (5 min). Entrance to Hisui-no-yu is included in the price of the accommodation.
● When Hisui-no-yu is closed guests can be driven to Watarase Onsen, western Japan’s largest outdoor hot spring bath (20 min). Sorry but guests must pay their own entrance fee.
● Use of the family shower and bath at the accommodation is OK 24 hours a day.

Type A Type B Type C Type D Type E Vegetarianism is not common in the Japanese countryside. Please double-check the Vegetarian Type which the service provider can accommodate to make sure that it meets your needs. Often being able to eat trace amounts of the ubiquitous Katsuo Dashi (fish stock) makes it easier to find options.

NOTE: It is difficult and not culturally sensitive to change meal requests, or make new meal demands, onsite when you arrive at accommodations. Vegetarian types must be confirmed during the reservation process and respected during your visit.

Irorian Minshuku is located along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route between Chikatsuyu village and Tsugizakura-oji, just past number signpost 30.
● ~40 min walk from Chikatsuyu village
● ~20 min walk from Tsugizakura-oji
Busses run daily to Chikatsuyu village and Nonaka Ipposugi bus stop.
● ~1 hr by bus from Kii-Tanabe to Chikatsuyu-oji (bus timetable 1)
● ~1 hr 10 min by bus from Kii-Tanabe to Nonaka Ipposugi (bus timetable 1)
● ~50 min walk from "Nonaka Ipposugi 野中一方杉" bus stop
