Review:   Mitaki Sanso
A more commercial operation than other stays on the Kodo. A similar size minshuku to Kiri no Sato but lacks that extra effort. Nonetheless, a most satisfactory stay and the view from the bedroom ( as the name suggests) is beautiful, awesome even. Please note: I think Japanese cuisine, generally, is amazing. I give Mitaki four stars, relative to a Japanese scale but in many places that I have travelled outside of Japan, I cannot hope for the same standard of balance and complexity of flavours and of course presentation/experience.

Review:   a pleasant stay after a long and very wet hike!
this place feels more like a hotel. I asked for no fish as I was still feeling ill and not sure what caused it. the chef was confused as I was down for eating anything - but he obliged and made me a lovely meal with meat only. last min changes can be tricky - I was grateful for this. slept well. they held my bags for an hour while I visited the shrines in the morning.

Review:   A nice way to end our walk of the Nakahechi trail
We hiked from Takajiri to Nachisan over 4.5 days in early January. The last day is probably the toughest, so it was really nice to see the sights in Nachisan and then have a nice soak and great meal in the baths at Mitaki Sanso without having to get on a bus. Mitaki Sanso is the only place to stay in town, so another advantage is that you have the place almost to yourself after the crowds leave at the end of the day and before they show up the next morning. It is a very different to experience Nachisan in peace and tranquility than with the Read more..

Review:   Nice Views & Very Helpful
If you're lucky, you might get a room with Nachi waterfall which I did. The meals were served in a proper restaurant area on the ground floor. This sanso is the biggest in size compare to the rest, thus there're enough toilets for usage. The owner might look stern but he went all way out to assist me to get my luggage delivered to Osaka due to address translation issues.

Review:   Not needed stop
We arrived there at 3 but there was not much to do in this town. Next time i rather would want travel onward to a more attractive town. Food was excellent but felt somehow uncomfortable as the owner was watching how we ate and was very specific how to eat her food

Review:   Best food on entire trek
What stood out for me here was the food. It was easily the best food during my entire trek of the Kumano Kodo and I was so full after both meals. The location also can't be beat as it is right in town after a very long day of hiking. The onsen was quite nice, though a bit disappointing that you can't use it in the morning. The room as well was nice, but I would love if some of these places had soft pillows rather than the buckwheat hard filled ones. They make such a difference for sleeping. Overall, this place felt a bit dated similar toRead more..
