Best ryokan ever

We were able to arrive to Fujiya Ryokan by using the local bus. It is literally just right in front of the Fujiya bus stop, which made us very happy as we were tired from commuting by this time. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a good experience with our room, which was tidy and roomy, and the meals, which was our first experience eating traditional food at a traditional inn. The food service was organized and we have good memories of how good everything was. Breakfast was very practical before our hike (more carbs). Added bonus points also is that they have their own shuttle to Hongu and Hosshinmae. We tried digging a hole in the river to enjoy the hot springs but it wasn't so good to do it when it got dark. We used the baths in the hotel instead. It was enjoyable!

Fujiya Ryokan

This place wasn’t directly on our Kumano Kodo route, so we took a short bus ride to get there—but the bus stops right in front, which was very convenient. The reception staff were very kind and helpful. Our room was spacious with three beds; a bit outdated, but still comfortable. We were provided traditional robes and jackets, which was a nice touch. The meals were delicious—one of our favorites of the entire trip. We also opted for the private onsen, and it was absolutely worth it: beautiful and perfect after a long day of trekking. We would definitely stay here again.

Large clean rooms did not visit baths in hotel as we went to river onsen. Food was very good however did not have breakfast as needed to catch early bus. Hotel was able to organise bento instead. Dinner excellent but a lot of fish again, some other protein would be good.

A traditional Ryokan

This is the traditional ryokan that still serve authentic Japanese cuisine. Highly recommended to get the ryokan experience with onsen and good meals.

I would gladly return

I would gladly return here if i go back to Kawayu. Not even 24 hours in Japan and I have already found myself somewhere remote and peaceful but I didn't yet have the courage to try the public onsen. However, I booked their private onsen for 45 minutes and loved it. Further, the location is serene with fewer crowds compared to Yunomine, and seeing the senninburo at the start of winter was magical. I am also grateful they have accommodated my 1730hrs dinner request as late meals are hard for me to digest. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely faultless. There is also a water station for hikers/pilgrims, and my luggage was already waiting in my room upon arrival. They also offer a free bus to Hosshimon Oji, though it only starts at 0900hrs. Overall, the service, the ambiance, and the food were impeccable. Highly recommended.
