3rd Place Kumano Kodo is an old farmhouse in the Nonaka area near Tsugizakura-oji on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. Mr. Tetsuyama has reformed the building while maintaining the authentic charm of the countryside, rich deep browns of aged wood, tatami mats, fusuma sliding doors, and veranda - decorated with antiques.

There are 2 buildings, Main building and Annex. Each of them are for private rental, only two booking per a day.

There is a full kitchen, small bath, toilet, bicycles, and free Wi-Fi;  making for a convenient stay.
The congenial Mr. Tetsuyama is passionate about sharing the local mountain culture. He is an organic farmer with the diversity of crops. He would like guests to feel at home -- your personal third place on the Kumano Kodo!

Minshuku Nakano is a family-run guesthouse located in the southern part of Chikatsuyu village.  Originally it was frequented by fishermen looking to catch the delicious Ayu sweetfish that thrive in the nearby Hiki-gawa river (the owner is an avid fisherman himself), but they have opened their home and hearts to walkers and pilgrims on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route.  It is located 10 minutes on foot from the Chikatsuyu-oji.

Minshuku Wago is conveniently located inn a minute's walk from Chikatsuyu-oji shrine. The name "Wago" translates literally as "peaceful meeting" and reflects the owner's wish for guests to relax, interact and create once-in-a-lifetime memories. The owner hails from Osaka originally, but has lived in Canada and China, and fascinated with the Kumano Kodo decided to open an inn in Chikatsuyu along the Kumano Kodo. The building, once a small local factory, has been transformed into a comfortable, refreshing accommodation. There are Western and Japanese-style rooms and a dormitory. For dinner, guests can be treated to Osaka-style specialty "okonomiyaki," a pan-fried meal with batter, cabbage and other ingredients. Minshuku Wago is a great option for Kumano pilgrims.

Kumano Nakahechi Mine-no-Yado (Mine Own House) is a rental cottage perched on the side of the mountain opposite (to the west) of Takijiri-oji. 

It is a one story building with open-space sitting area and Japanese style room.  It has a compact full kitchen, toilet and bath. 

The views that stretch across the mountains (including the stars) can be enjoyed from a lawn-chair on the covered deck, one of the most popular activities of this cottage!

It is located along the Mine hiking route which descends from the Shiomi-toge pass. 

The owner offers pick-up and drop-off service from Takijiri-oji if reserved in advance, making it a good place to stay for the first night before walking the Kumano Kodo from Takijiri-oji. 

No meals are supplied, so please do some grocery shopping before you arrive.

Kumano Nakahechi Mine-no-Yado (Mine Own House) can only accept reservations 6 months or less in advance.

Kodo-no-Mori is a lodging next to Takijiri-oji, the spiritual entrance to the sacred Kumano mountains and popular trailhead for multi-day treks on the Kumano Kodo. 

The guestrooms are simple Japanese style, where futons are laid onto the floor for sleeping.  The kitchen, bath and washing area are communal. There is an atmosphere of home-sharing as the owner (and cat) lives onsite. 

There is a shop built into the house which is run by the same owner.  The shop sells souvenirs including a selection of local sake and beer. 

Homemade meals are served in the shop.

This accommodation also offers luggage shuttle services.
Please apply when walking Kumano Kodo.

NULLM KAZE Rental House (formerly Nuruminoie) is a boutique rental house in Nakahechi about 15 minutes drive north of the Takahara settlement.  It is an older farmhouse with a designer renovation.  The fully furnished house itself is a one-story wooden structure with a series of rooms, including both Western and Japanese-style atmospheres.  The entrance and kitchen feature an exposed ceiling to showcase traditional construction techniques. 

The relaxing space offers views over the bucolic satoyama landscape of the wide Nurumi-gawa river valley, which the name derives from.  The bamboo trees waving in the wind frame the mountains beyond. 

This is a private house rental for only one group per night.
