熊野古道継桜王子がすぐ近くにあることから名付けられた「民宿つぎざくら」
「継桜王子」やその境内に樹齢800年以上を誇る杉の巨木で県指定天然記念物でもある「野中の一方杉」、古くから熊野古道巡礼者の渇きをいやしてきた日本名水100選でも知られる「野中の清水」といった熊野古道の要所が宿から歩いて数分の場所にあります。
長年料理人として活躍したご主人が2011年に故郷の地で始めた民宿です。
ご主人が作る四季折々の山の幸を使った美味しいお料理と奥様のあたたかいおもてなしで、ゆったり満たされる滞在をお楽しみください。

Best meals in all of Japan
The experience here after a huge first day hiking was amazing. Beautiful and friendly hosts comfortable rooms and bedding. The bath was just right. It’s hard to put in words how wonderful the food was. Both dinner and breakfast. Highly recommended

A wonderful place!
Such a homey atmosphere, with comfortable accommodations, a nice bath, and AMAZING food. A very nice, family style environment to spend the night between hiking days. The house cat named Ocha was very cute as well. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful hospitality and great food!

Absolutely blown away
This night was the highlight of our hike and entire trip in Japan. The hosts were amazing and made us feel very comfortable in their house. Our beds were very comfortable and we ended up having two rooms. And the food delicious and a masterful showcase of the chef's abilities. It was an 8 course dinner and everything was just perfect. Breakfast and lunch were equally good and exceeded expectations in every way.

大雨の中を歩いて到着となりましたが、濡れた雨具など乾かすところを用意していただきありがたかったです。 夕食、朝食は大変美味しく量もたっぷりでした。夕食中に獅子舞が来てくれたので楽しい時間を過ごすことができたのがさらに良い思い出です。 お弁当もお願いしましたが、具材たっぷりで疲れた体に沁みました。 優しい旦那さん、女将さんのおもてなしでゆったり過ごすことができました。ありがとうございました。

Highly recommended
This was a lovely comfortable stay with warm, friendly hosts. We were able to catch up on washing here & they really helped us out with a lift to the trailhead. The food here is fine dining quality so bring your appetite!

Ésta Guest House es fácil de encontrar y está sobre el camino de Kumano Kodo. Nos tocó una hermosa habitación muy amplia y cómoda. El baño es compartido pero con todas las comodidades. Uno podría llegar a éste lugar con lo puesto, y encontraría todo para estar cómodo. Pijamas, artículos de baño, etc. Las personas que están a cargo de la GuestHouse son adorables y nos han abierto las puertas de la mejor forma. La comida es de otro planeta, por cantidad y calidad. Incredible food, incredible kindness
Their food is truly sumptuous--reviews do not do it justice. Dinner and breakfast were lavish kaiseki meals with multiple courses, served so beautifully, and the bento for lunch was a very generous portion that fueled me for the long walk to Hongu. My meals at this Minshuku were by far the best I had on my trip to Japan. But the kindness of the hosts, an older couple opening their home to trekkers, is what really made me feel at home. It had rained all day on my walk to Nonaka and I was soaking wet when I arrived. The host welcomed me in and immediately rushed to get newspaper to help me soak the water that had accumulated in my boots. This was the first of many small, warm gestures. What a lovely place to stay.

A lovely place to stay with great food
This was a lovely place to stay and the food was amazing. The hosts were super friendly and it was fun having a communal dinner with the other guests. The following day was the longest hike and the lunch bento box was perfect with lots of rice as well as meat and vegetables.

Our favorite stay during the Kumano!
This minshuku set the tone for the start of our Kumano trek. Can’t say enough positive things about this guesthouse. The owners were so kind and generous - thank you so much for everything! The food was incredible and lived up to the hype - a several course kaiseki dinner over great conversation with other travelers. They even lay out the bedding for you in your room during dinner. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, though the walls were thin: they were essentially a sliding door so needless to say, we could hear everything said next door. But that wasn’t an issue, as everyone was very respectful and asleep by 9:30 pm! The breakfast was fantastic, as was the lunch box which we really appreciated during the long hikes. Everything was tidy and clean. We had an excellent stay! It was truly our favorite stay on the Kumano. Please note that this minshuku is right below Tsugizakura oji; you need to walk down the stairs in front of the oji. It is also about 3 km (1-1.5 hour hike) from Chikatsuyu so keep that in mind when you are timing your hike.

THE BEST
Truly one of the highlights of my entire trip to Japan. The couple running it were the sweetest, and the guy is a former chef who cooked us the most incredible multi-course gourmet meals. The house is perched at the top of the mountain with a stunning view. Can't recommend enough.

Wonderful hosts.
Wonderful hosts after a long day of hiking in the rain. We did miss the turn off down the hill and had to backtrack on the trail a bit. The bath was hot and very relaxing. Some of the best food we had on the entire trip. Dinner and breakfast were both incredible.

Cozy and quality Minshuku
Amazing Minshuku! We had no idea that the place was so well known because of its food. Dinner was amazing and breakfast was surprisingly good and original. The bento boxes were not the star of the show wbut still good. Tha place itself is clean, cozy and has everything you need while on the Kumano Kodo. The only downside is that you need to go down some stairs and then up again the next day. Everything else was perfect and the staff were very kind and accommodation. Highly recommend it!

Good Food, Good Baths, Good People
This is a great place to stay if you're willing to push a few extra kilometers past Chikatsuyu. The hosts are wonderful people who will welcome you with a smile. This place has at least 3 guestrooms, and you can expect to share a meal with the other guests, which was a highlight. If I could make one recommendation, when booking, ask to be situated in one of the rooms away from the washroom area. The late-night traffic makes for a poor sleep. Otherwise, this place is great. The food is mind-blowing and an experience that just has to be had, not described. The baths are great. There's a bright and warm area for getting ready in and out of the baths, and the tubs themselves are very nice. No doubt, this is a great place to stay and will set you up nice for the long hike to Hongu the next day.

6 stars for the food!
The “bath” is not an onsen but a tub of hot water that all the guests use (after a shower). This is my first experience of this kind of tub use, and whatever initial misgivings I may have had earlier went out the window as 8 hrs of hiking dissipated in the hot soak. We enjoyed sharing the table with 2 other guests; the community is wonderful. I liked that our drinking water was from the nearby spring. But above all, is the food. I am a culinary educator and am obsessed with food. Chef Minoru Yuba’s cuisine is among the best I’ve had on this trip. Make sure you order a packed lunch too.

Fabulous
The location in Nonaka, just a bit further on from Chikatsuyu sets you up well for the long walk to Yuomine Onsen the following day. The Minshuku was warm and comfortable. There is a shared onsen which can be used privately. The food is prepared by Mr Yuba, a professional chef. It was exquisite.

Minshuku Tsugizakura, located right by the Tsugizakura shrine, provides the best dinner you can have along the Kumano Kodo. Their service is spotless; the house is charming and well-appointed; the owners are adorable, and our experience was perfect, but the dinner, breakfast, and lunch boxes were phenomenal!

冬の熊野古道も怖くない

Our best Minshuku experience!
We received incredible hospitality at this charming home. Our cheerful hosts meticulously prepared all the details to make us very comfortable and cozy. Elaborate meals were absolutely wonderful. Our hostess kindly picked us up at the bus stop because we arrived late in the evening. The next morning she offered to drop us off at the trailhead so that we didn’t need to rush for the bus. Needless to say, we were well taken care. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience!

Very warm and professional caretakers at this Minshuku. Wonderful stop on the Nakahechi route. Highly recommend booking early as the rooms are comfortable and the food the best we had on our hikes of Kohechi and Nakahechi.

Amazing accommodation for Kumano Kodo hike
The accommodation and especially the service was exceptional. Due to the weather conditions we arrived soaking wet at the location. The owners had already prepared a hot bath, they immediately started drying our shows with newspaper without us having to ask and also had a washing machine and dryer, which was amazing after hiking for several hours in the rain. Due to the small size of the accommodation it had a very familial atmosphere and we got to know other guests during dinner which we had together. The dinner was also absolutely amazing. Although the owners did not fluently speak English we had absolutely no problems communicating. The only minor drawback was that the walls are very thin and we had a group leaving at 5am who woke us up because they were quite noisy and we could hear everything through the walls. Apart from that I would 100% recommend this accommodation.

Taste sensation!
Although it felt a little like dorm accommodation (only because there were 7 guests in total & wall dividers were rice paper, we weren’t actually in bunks :)) this is a truly lovely place to stay. The owners were super friendly and their little wooden onsen was a delight. The food was an incredible surprise, almost an event! Michelin standard.

The best food I had in Japan
Everything about this Minshiku was excellent. The hosts were very accommodating, the place was comfortable, the hot bath was very nice but the highlight is the food. The food is made by a "retired" chef and all of it was absolutely incredible. I was also shocked by the variety of food they had.

The bath was a lifesaver after a day of walking. The dinner was impressive with a lot of effort and thought put into it, both in presentation and taste. Breakfast was equally good, and the lunch box had the same standard as well. The hosts were very welcoming and I had a pleasant time chatting with them. They were also very kind to give me a discount on the washing machine fee when I mistakenly put in the wrong load and had to do a second round of laundry. Will definitely stay there again if the opportunity comes.

Outstanding!
This is a lovely guesthouse. The Yuba couple are very friendly and provide an exceptional service for the trekkers. I was greeted at the door by Mrs. Yuba. She immediately showed me to my room then walked me through the house, explaining what was available and how to use things. The room was beautifully decorated with all the conveniences I could possible want. Even a sweet was left on the table. The meals were exceptional. So much attention and care was given to every detail. The Yuba's don't speak English but they understand enough to make the English speaker comfortable and cared for.

Favorite accommodation
The beginning of this trail was not so smooth, the weather was dark, and my shoes were broken, so I thought I couldn't get to my accommodation. But luckily, the owner of a roadside store at the Chikatsuyu-oji and helped me get in touch with accommodation. Mr. Yuba quickly drove and picked me. The dinner was like a kaisekiryouri, and it was said that Mr. Yuba, the male host, was a restaurant chef when he was young, so we were so lucky. Mrs. Daiko is very beautiful, introduced the facilities and hot spring usage to us, and introducing every dish of dinner. That evening, I was very happy to meet a family of from the United States and two doctors from the UK. We had a very happy dinner while chatting. In the deep mountains after the rain, the smoke is shrouded in it, it's so beautiful~~ I slept well at night, and the mountains were very quiet.

Fantastic dinner and great night of sleep after long walking day
The place was clean and convenient, the hot tub was great after a long hiking day. The true highlight of this place was the food. It was unexpected to get a Michelin star like dinner, breakfast and event a lunch box for the next day hike was the best we experienced on the entire trail. Cosy and beautiful place run by a great old couple!
The owners are the gem of this place! Although they speak very little English, you can feel the warm and welcome from their gestures and actions! The place is very well kept, with traditional tatami flooring and futon. The dinner they cook up is simply delicious! Had a great time communicating with the owners and their other guests (all Japanese!) even with a minor language barrier. A superb stop along the Kumano Kodo!

Best experience!
After a day of Nakahechi walk, it was superb to be served with hotel quality kaiseki! It was commendable and an absolute rare experience. The hosts were super nice and accommodating. There was unlimited coffee and tea varieties. The take away lunch was beautifully packed and tasty. The experience of staying in this Minshuku is worth more than the price we paid for.

Amazing food. Kind hosts
As in other reviews, this place is run by an older couple with very limited English and very traditional in their presentation. We hiked here from Takahara. It is almost two hours past Chikatsuyu. Made the trip to Hongju shorter. The food is incredible with multiple courses. It is impressive, delicious, and has plenty to eat. We had a smaller room and it was small., but shortly after arriving, they told us through google translate that the larger rooms next to us were available and they opened up a three-room area that was a treat. The toilets and shower are shared. Breakfast and the bento box for lunch were just as amazing. Breakfast was a huge delicious meal. Note that even when they ask you what time you want to eat. They have set times. 6 pm for dinner and 7 am for breakfast. The bus is a 20-minute walk downhill.

Beyond expectation

Perfect Pitstop on the Kumano Kodo
The hospitality is exceptional. While the guesthouse itself is traditional (ie, paper-thin walls / futon mattresses), the room is perfectly clean and comfortable. The shower facilities are shared but thoughtfully stocked with amenities and a two-person steaming bath in a traditional pine tub. It is nice after a strenuous hike! The food is an experience and a highlight - dinner, breakfast, and the bento box and cute package of snacks for each person! If coming via the Kumano Kodo, there is a steep set of steps to descend to reach the guesthouse.

Best stay during my hike!
Awesome place. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Traditional style room was very clean. Bath was very nice after a long hike. Food was very filling, tasty, and lots of variety. I did find the wall between my room and the next door room was very thin and I could hear all the talking next door. Overall amazing experience and highly recommend. My best accommodation during my hike.

Best room and board ever in the Kumano Kodo, and my entire trip to Japan!
This has been the best experience for me in my month long trip to Japan and while walking the Kumano Kodo. The host couple has done a fabulous job receiving hikers like me with the highest standards of hospitality! The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast, plus a most traditional and elegant bento lunch mark the highlight of my trip. They are just so delicate, elegant, and delicious! I wish I could come back to stay with them soon!

Amazing stay!
This was the highlight of our stay. Though it is a small establishment, you can felt the owner really taking care of your needs by providing every little details in your room, bath room etc. The shared bath room and toilet are much better that what I imagine. Everything is easy. As mentioned by other reviewer, the meals were the best. It just make your walk more worth after staying there and enjoying the meals. The owner also offered to send us to busstop knowing that we were going to take bus next day. Overall, I will stay here again if I visit the area again. You can really felt the sincerity from owner (an old couple) in all they have provided.

best place to stay after takahara
this gguesthouse was an absolute gem . the owner i think is a retired chef and puts on a 6 course degustation menu to die for...... the accomodations are very spacious and the bath was fabulous. not only is this s better distance 16.8km mark so your 3rd day is under 20km but an absolute treat .

10月14日に泊めて頂きました。 料理が評判とは聞いていましたが、予想を超えていました。大変失礼ながら、山の中でこんな料理を食べる事ができるとは思っていませんでした。夕食だけでなく朝食もお弁当も品数が多く、気配りが行き届いたもので大変感激しました。最初は品数が多く食べ切れるかなと思いましたが、美味しくてペロリと食べ切ってしまいました。個人的には柑橘類の使い方が素晴らしいと思いました。 お宿としてもとても暖かく迎えて頂き、とても満足しました。

継桜のよいところを満喫
コロナで宿泊客が我々だけだったため、部屋を広々と使わせていただきました。洗濯機と乾燥機を使えるのは、古道歩きにはとても助かります。 お料理は今回の旅行の中で一番おいしかった宿です。お昼のお弁当も、味・ボリュームとも満点です。 継桜地区は民家もそこそこありますが自然も豊かで、きれいな湧き水もあります。夜明け前のひぐらしの大合唱は一生忘れられません。 次に熊野古道に行くとしたら、ぜひ再訪したい宿です。

What an amazing place to stay for the first night!

Wonderful hospitality fit for a gourmand!
After a long and rainy day of hiking, the warm welcome at Minshuku Tsugizakura was wholeheartedly welcomed. The high point of my weekend on the Kumano Kodo was the superb dinner - many elaborate dishes, all of which were absolutely delectable. The following morning we enjoyed coffee on the porch before a hearty breakfast to set out for day 2 of the hike. I highly recommend weary pilgrims rest their head and fill their stomach here!

とにかく料理がおいしかったです。大阪の料亭で料理人をしていたご主人がつくる懐石料理はどれもおいしく、熊野古道のど真ん中にある山里でこんなにおいしい料理が食べられるとは夢にも思いませんでした。朝食も手の込んだ料理で、これまた美味しくいただきました。お弁当も絶品でした。民宿なので設備面は一般の家庭並みですが、いろいろなアメニティーを用意してくれていたり、とても清潔にされていて、気持ちよく過ごせました。夫婦ともども大満足です。

山奥の民宿で料理はあまり期待出来ないと思っていましたが、とんでもありません！ 京都や滋賀などの大きな料理旅館で腕を磨いたご主人の料理はどれ一つ手を抜いたものが無く、夕食も朝食も(翌日のお弁当に至るまで)極上の料理でした。細やかな気配りは料理だけでなく、食堂や浴室、部屋の清掃も行き届いており、おもてなしの心に溢れていました。

非常によい宿
滝尻王子から熊野本宮大社への中間の宿泊で利用しました。 継桜王子のすぐ下に立地しており、疲れた到着した体には助かり、次の日の歩きにもとても便利です。 檜の風呂で疲れをいやすことができ、料理は夕食も朝食も、品数が多く、とてもおいしくいただきました。 ご主人、奥さんのご対応も非常に良かったです。

おもてなしの心を感じました
熊野古道中辺路を２日で歩きました。15時に到着して部屋に案内され、すぐに風呂に入れました。夕飯は宿名物の懐石料理で板前だったご主人の創意工夫が伝わってきました。翌日は本宮から川湯温泉に行き昼食の弁当をいただきましたが、ボリュームたっぷりで大変おいしかったです。外国人観光客が来て元の状態に戻るまでお元気で民宿を続けていただきたいと思います。おもてなしありがとうございました。

接客も丁寧でお料理もとても美味しく量もちょうど良く大満足でした。 朝食はお弁当にしていただきましたが、そのお弁当もとても美味しかったです。 ですが、今でも申し訳なかったな…と思うことが一つ。 お布団についての説明が特になかったので、早く横になりたく、勝手に布団を敷いてしまい…お宿のおかみさんには不快な思いをさせてしまったなと。 民宿でそこまでのサービスがあるとは思ってませんでした。 お詫びの言葉は伝えたつもりですが、「お布団を大事にしてるので」というおかみさんの言葉に正直少し落ち込みました。 マナーを知らなかった私が悪いのはよく分かっていますが、宿に着いた時に一言言っていただければ悩まずに済むかなと思います。 そんなこともありましたが、総じて本当に素敵なお宿で、またお世話になりたい宿です。

中辺路お勧めの宿
５年かけて改装を続けてきたとのことで、とても綺麗です。 例えば、お風呂は前までステンレスの浴槽だったそうですが、今は木の浴槽で趣のある浴室になっています。 快適な居住環境はもちろん、個人的に食事が大変良かったです。 日本料理店で料理長を務められたご主人の腕は確かなものです。 部屋に置いてある宿泊者のノートには国内外問わず、本格的懐石料理を称賛する書き込みが数多く見られました。 滞在からお弁当に至るまで、ご主人と女将さんの気遣いが感じられ、心身ともに休めることが出来ました。 翌日に継桜王子から熊野本宮大社へ歩くなら、お弁当付プランをお勧めします。 滝尻王子から継桜王子までの区間より長距離になるので、お腹に入れるものを持っておいた方が良いです。

送迎について
湯川王子迂回路まで車で送っていただきましたが、迂回路の矢印方向に歩いたため、本宮方向に行くべきが逆方向に行ってしまい、約2時間ロスしてしまいました。我々の最初の歩きはじめ方向が間違っていたのですが、我々のような不注意で単純なミスを他の客も犯してしまう可能性があります。もし他の客に今度そのようなことが起こらないように、客に対して注意と方向を教えてあげたほうがいいと思います。 徒歩行程は発心門までとしバスに乗って予定通り旅をしました。上記のこと以外は、天候にも恵まれ、食事もお風呂もお弁当も素晴らしく、快適で思い出深い旅をすることができました。ありがとうございました。

Warmful place on the kumano kodo
After few hours of walking, the Minshuku Tsugizakura is a warmful place for a restful night. I enjoyed the scenic view from the tatami room, before a simple but relaxing bath. The dinner and the breakfast are at the level of very good ryokan's kaiseki, and the lunchbox for the following day is incredibly rich. It was also a pleasure to talk with my hosts, and you can feel that they are glad to take care of their guests.

心が温かくなりました
近くの湧水をふんだんに使われた、料亭の技術を持ったシェフが丁寧に作るお料理は素晴らしかったです。心のこもったお弁当もとても美味しく、なくなるのが寂しくて何度かにわけていただきました。この坂を越えたらお弁当を食べようと思うと元気が出ました。 部屋もお風呂もとてもきれいで、心のこもった設えでゆっくりできました。何よりご主人と奥様の仕事（生き方？）への姿勢が素晴らしく、いろいろな意味でサポートしていただきました。また伺いたいです。

気さくで気のいいご夫婦が営まれているホスピタリティー溢れる綺麗なお宿です。 酷使した足をゆったり伸ばせる広い湯船に豊富すぎる程のアメニティの数々、タオルを枚数制限なしに使えたのも嬉しかったです。 期待していたお料理も評判通り、とっっっっっても美味しかったです！ 食前酒の自家製梅ワインにほんのりバターの香る栗ご飯、デザートのオレンジシャーベットに至るまで、心を込めて丁寧に作られたお料理は全て美味しかったです。 中でも、鮎の甘露煮が今まで味わったことのない美味しさで、あの味が忘れられません。あぁ、通販があればいいのに…。 熊野古道から坂を下りてすぐ、野中の清水も歩いてすぐの超！好立地です。 早朝、野中の清水前のカーブから見た霧を抱いた山々は絵画の如く美しかったです。 翌日持たせていただいたお弁当も、見た目以上におかずがいっぱい出てきてびっくりしました。 予約が取れたらまたすぐにでも泊まりに行きたいくらい、心を鷲掴みにされた居心地のよい最高のお宿でした。

実家に帰ったかのようでした
熊野古道を真夏に歩いて疲れて辿り着きましたが、すぐ隣の野中の清水を冷やしていただいており、冷たいお水でホットしました。 お食事はほんとに綺麗で工夫されていて、どれも美味しく、自家製の梅酒も進みました。 お願いしていたお弁当も、開けて「わあ」と言うほど豪華でした。 お風呂も広くてシャワーも２つあり便利です。 何よりオーナーご夫妻が暖かくて、田舎の親戚の家に帰ってきたかのように寛げました。 中辺路を歩く場合には立地も最高ですが、ここに泊まることを目的にまた行きたいと思うほどです。 本当にお勧めです。

滝尻王子～本宮まで歩く1泊2日の旅程で立ち寄らせていただきました。 たまたま貸し切りだったことを差し引いても、お部屋・お風呂とも申し分ない広さで、清潔で気持ちよく利用できました。 お料理も期待通り、とてもおいしかったです！ 初日に継桜王子まで距離を稼げる立地も大正解でした。 長時間の歩行で疲れ切った身体には、ルートのすぐそばにお宿があることも有難かったです。 写真など見ていなかったので、特に大きく期待していなかったのですが、 おにぎり弁当がものすごく感激でした！ すべて味の違う趣向をこらした3種のおにぎりに、様々な種類のおかずが添えられていました。 丁寧に手をかけてつくっていただいたお弁当は、歩く励みになりました。 味ももちろんおいしかったです。 ご主人、女将さん共々、とてもあたたかくもてなしてくださるいいお宿です。ぜひおすすめしたいです。 私も、また中辺路を訪れる機会があれば再訪したいです。

The Best Japanese Experience By Far!!
Can't think of enough superlatives. Hosts are the most wonderful people, generous of spirit, who made sure everything was perfect. Picked us up from Chikatsuya-Oji when we were exhausted, drove us to the bus stop the next morning. The bath was so welcomed after a long & difficult hike. Supper was unbelievable - 8 courses and a taste sensation. Breakfast too, and the bento box was so generous & delicious. The room could not be better, spacious & comfortable. Gourmet meals, luxurious bath and warm hosts
We very much enjoyed the warm hospitality of Minoru-san and his wife, and meeting their fluffy cat. This minshuku has the most luxurious bathroom we encountered on the trail. The dinner and breakfast showcased the chef's creativity with seasonal ingredients, and the lunch box was almost too beautiful to eat.

We, nine of us, stayed at the Minshuka Tsugizakura at the first night of Kumano Koto hiking (18 Nov. 2019). The Ryokan-style inn, only a few minutes away from Tsugizakuri Oji, has clean tatami-matted room, lovely Japanese style bath and dining facilities. The smile of the owner couple made us feel like home at end of wet and exhausted hiking day. The highlight is the multi-courses Kaiseki dinner as well as breakfast and bento for the next day hiking. The quality, presentation and services of the dinner were second to none. The inn even employed a multi-lingual (Japanese & English) handsome New Zealander, Christopher, to clear any ambiguities on what we were eating. My only regret is we could not stay longer!

Can't fault this place - excellent host, amazing dining and fantastic rooms
Great minshuku. The highlight of our trip. The dinner was amazing, hosts friendly and the lunch was fantastic! Dinner is prepared by Mr Yuba, a professional chef - the best meal mum and I had throughout our whole trip. My mum forgot her walking stick and he hopped into a car to find her to return it. Excellent food

Impressive homestay
The location is on the hillside. If it is very convenient to get on foot, if you take the bus, you need to climb a section of the road. The room is Japanese and very large. The director was particularly enthusiastic because we arrived at the intersection and waited for us at the intersection. Dinner is very ceremonial, ladies will wear Japanese kimonos, meals are particularly rich. The next day, the hostess also drove us to the place where the walk started, very enthusiastic.

Our Favourite Minshuku in Japan!
From the moment you arrive until the moment you take the farewell photos with the Husband and Wife Owners of this great Minshuku you are treated to a great stay. The rooms and and bathrooms are all very well thought out and provide many surprises that show that they really know their knowledge of guest needs, entertainment, meals and fun. Everything is meticulously clean and there are so many touches that just leave a wonderful memory. The crisp apple and tea when you arrive, dressing in colourful Kumono's for dinner, chocolates in your bedroom for a snack after dinner...if you can even fit in another bite after the wonderful Japanese dinner. The best breakfast of the entire trip and a wonderfully thought out Packed lunch for the next leg of the journey. We loved this place and the owners. We even heard that another couple, exhausted after the 13km slog from Takahara, arrived in Chikatsuyu exhausted and phoned them, and they took their small truck down and brought them up. No extra cost and not a service offered but every bit a detail of their hospitality and generosity of spirit!

Best Kumano meal and most gracious hosts
We really enjoyed the fantastic Kaiseki dinner and the treat of all the lady guests dressing in kimonos. The husband and wife team are wonderful hosts. We also appreciated the washer dryer facility. Best guest house on the Kumano Kodo.

The lady is very nice and provided us with a lift to the bus stop.The Japanese outfits for the ladies were a lovely touch.Overall there was far too much food provided for dinner and breakfast.Such a waste!Lunch was disappointing. In addition we were asked to vacate our room very early in the morning.

Gastronomic delight
The hosts were amazing. We were formally dressed in kimonos for dinner and then treated to an amazing 8 course dinner that was artistically presented and tasted amazing. This was an outstanding experience and one of many highlights of the walk.

Fantastic!
We arrived at this homestay in the mountains to be welcomed by our lovely hosts - the ladies got to choose kimono's for dinner which really added something special to our trip! There was a spring nearby that we spent some time at to cool off and take some pictures... Dinner was at 6pm sharp and was an absolute feast, they also have beers on site (but there is no other shop closeby, which we really loved). There is a small onsen onsite as well :) Breakfast was another delight, and the lunch boxes were simply wonderful! We had the room next to the kitchen, which means we did hear the preparations from around 5am, so if you are a light sleeper, perhaps ask for one of the other rooms a bit further. The experience was one we will never forget - thank you Minshuku Tsugizakura!

Can't fault this place
My first minshuku was the best in terms of comfort and food. The food was simply outstanding, the co-owner/chef clearly dedicated to the task of preparing the very best in Japanese cuisine. For our 7am breakfast I heard him go to the kitchen at 5.30, which gives some idea of how much work goes into the cooking. His wife was very attentive and there were a number of nice touches including a first-aid kit for free use. The provided lunchbox was outstanding.

This place is incredible: the hosts are so welcoming and frindly, the rooms so traditional. But the special mentions goes to the meals: the owner is a former chef, and he prepared for us an incredible dinner, problably the best we had in Japan! Wonderful hospitality
The family that runs this minshuku is incredibly sweet. We felt right at home from the minute we stepped in the door. The meal was also very good and very big. Our room smelled a little weird at first, but once the bedding was laid out it wasn't a problem. I would recommend this lodging for any planning on staying in the vicinity.

Great hosts and food
The hosts allowed us to check in 2hrs ahead of check-in time as I was not well. Very touched by the kind gesture. Chef prepared a feast for dinner. Every dish was prepared with great details and delicately presented. He really took a lot of effort and pride in the food he prepared for us. Breakfast the next morning was also great. The lunch box we ordered was the best from all that we ordered for the trek. Everything was well presented. They also gave us their well wishes with the folded paper cranes. A homely minshuku away from home. Will definitely recommend to all. Hope to have a chance to come back again.

Superb meals would be prized in Kyoto
Stay here for the food , but also enjoy a very helpful host a pretty spacious tatami room and ample bath facilities to allow the 4 or so rooms guests to have private baths. Our host even gave us a lift in the morning to cut a mile off the longest hike of the trip. It is very long day from here to Hongu Taisha.

Hard not to start and finish with the incredible food provided at this guesthouse. A brilliant cook provided a stupendous evening meal, a magnificent breakfast and a lunch box luxury feast for the next day. Every thing about this place was good and in the morning you can sit out with your tea or coffee and watch the light fill the valley that the house looks out over and down. Hands down, best accommodation on the Kumano Kodo!
My favorite accommodation on the Kumano Kodo and I say that because the owner was a former chef in bigger Japan cities. I had an amazing Kaiseki meal which was so beautifully presented and amazing quality of food. Even the lunch box was the best too! You can tell the owners try really hard to please you their with amazing service. They also let you use the washer/dryer for a small fee. I would highly recommend this place to stay!

A Happy Family, a cosy room, Delicious food and a great onsen
Everything there to make you feel at ease and allow you to relax after a long day of walk. The dinner shared with the other guest is a good way to exchange on your Kumano kodo experience. This was the best expirience in Japan we had so far
Dear Mrs. and Mr. Yuba, we were guests christmas 2018 for one night and wanted to thank you for the pleasent stay. Your house is awesome, the meals were outstanding, the plum wine was great, the wodden Onsen was refreshing and you both are one of the most kind and heartwarming people we met during our visits in Japan. A home away from home
Mr and Mrs Yuba were such gracious hosts. Their home was welcome respite at the end of a tiring day. The onsen was relaxing. The food was impeccable, delicious and beautifully presented. The lunch box was more than I expected, again also delicious. The location is quite convenient on the Nakahechi trail, a few steps down from Tzugizukaya Oji. I would highly recommend this place

My goodness, the meal is excellent.
The host used to be a hotel chef. And you get just that. Our dinner comes in 8 courses, each one nicely decorated. All delicious. Even the lunch box comes with 10 crafted items. It's too beautiful to eat. You can't find a better meal anywhere. Bedroom is very comfortable with electric blanket to keep us warm in the winterly night. You can easily continue the walk after breakfast as the route is right there.

Very tranquil location and setting. Outstanding views across mountains and valleys. Wonderful welcome, kindness and outstanding meals. You will never have a equal meal in any city in Japan compared to Minshuku Tsugizakura. The young lady assisting host was English and Japanese speaking . Lovely rooms and excellent hospitality. Bus stop in valley if you wish to shorten your days distance.

Exceptional dining in a wonderful Minshuku with amazing hosts
What a delight to stay at this little gem. Our hosts were amazing and the food superb! Loved the home made plum wine too. Definitely get the lunch box as it is so good. I enjoyed two great meals with a third (my lunch box) on the trail generous and filling for my walk. I had only booked in here by default as my first choice was unavailable and how lucky was I?! This was so much better than where I had planned to stay and if course, my favourite four Thai friends were here too to enjoy a meal with. I would book back in here just for the meals. The great hospitality and wonderful rooms were a bonus on top of this. Thank you for being a part of my Kumano Kodo journey and making it so special.

Amazing facilities and food!
Our hosts were very accommodating and friendly. While it was a shared house, we also had our own space and privacy. Meals provided by the chef were amazing, and the young man from New Zealand who worked as a waiter and translator made things very easy. The fridge was stocked with affordable alcohol, and coffee and water were provided free of charge. The hosts were very kind to warn us of the harsh weather predicted for the following day, so advised that we take the bus. The following morning, they drove us to the bus stop. Thank you very much for our wonderful stay!

We loved this place! Amazing hospitality at the end of our first big day of walking...and wet! 部屋は広く、2人で止まるには十分でした。 お風呂に関しては、朝8時までシャワーを使わせていただけるので出発前に浴びてさっぱりして出発できました。 食事については文句なしで、今回は前菜三種と食前酒、枝豆豆腐のカニあんかけ、熊野牛・野菜等の炒めもの、酒の酢の物、ホタテのベーコン巻き、コーンの炊き込みご飯(古代米使用)、シャーベットといった感じでした(あいまいですみません)。朝ごはんも豪華で、一緒に行った人は食べきれないくらいでした。 立地に関しても、2日で中辺路を歩く場合、ちかつゆだと2日目は結構歩かなければならなかったので、中間地点である継桜王子で泊まれるのがありがたかったです。野中の清水が近くにあるのもうれしい。 接客に関しても親切丁寧でうれしかったです。

Second to none

If I could award 6 stars to Minshuku Tsugizakura, I would. Everything about our stay was fantastic, but especially the hospitality from Mr. Yuba, his wife, and their assistant, Christopher. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Great place to stay
Friendly hosts, fantastic food, modest but well equipped facilities,and 2 min from the Kumano Kodo path. A great place to stay run by a retired chef and his family. Vegetarians and vegans may have a few difficulties despite requesting special meals.

おいしい食事と温かい対応に感謝
継桜地区に3軒ある民宿の一つで、滝尻から歩いて一日でここまで来ると翌日が楽になるので、ここに泊まりたい。3部屋なので数人でいっぱいになるので、予約は早めに。 食事はかなり手が込んだものが出る。民宿にしては高めの料金と思っていたが、この内容なら納得。 外国人に人気の宿のようで、オーストラリア人が2名来ていた。食事はテーブル席で宿泊者いっしょに食べる。オーストラリア人といろいろ話が楽しめた。 主人と奥さんの親切で温かい対応に感謝。翌日、継桜から次の王子までは車が走る道なので、奥さんに車で送ってもらい、近道をしたので、宿を出たのが8時、熊野本宮到着が15時となった。

Perfect hosts with wonderful food
This place is great! Hosts are generous and make us feel really at home. We can help ourselves to drinks and tidbits. Dinner and breakfast are absolutely delicious and make us crave for more. The lunch bento is so lovingly prepared that we are so thankful for it on our long hike to Kumano Hongu Taisha. One suggestion though - there were westerners that stayed that day - may be good to offer them western breakfast as they couldn’t appreciate the Japanese breakfast. We felt that they were wasting the lovely food!

Lovely reception and food
Food was an informal kaiseki - some 7 to 10 different courses prepared by an ex professional chef who still takes great pride and pleasure in his work. Just down the path from a sacred water well. My room was next door to a crew of 3 gentlemen who I could very clearly hear snoring - par for the course of a hiking trip. They have a washing machine and dryer for use - 500 yen total.

A wonderful experience

Fantastic Minshuku on Kumano Kodo
Minshuku Tsugizakura was a fantastic small place to stay along the Kumano Kodo. We walked from Takijiri and were welcomed with a very clean and comfortable guesthouse with friendly owners. The meals were exceptional and anyone who is planning to do the walk to Hongu should definitely try to stay here. A highlight of our holiday and some of the best food in Japan.

Amazing stay
Minshuku Tsugizakura is located close to number 34 of the kumano kodo trail in Nonaka. The house is fully renovated with wide rooms. The futtons are very comfortable and palced on top of a carpet that can be heated. The house is hosted by a couple that make your stay super comfortable. The food is amazing, especially the dinner. The bathroom/toilet is shared:there are two toilets separated and an onsen in the bathroom. I fully recommend this place!

Perhaps the VERY BEST Meal I've ever had---no kidding!
Nice location, very pretty house with a shared bath (large very hot tub which is nice) and private areas for several guests. But lets be honest---the very best part about Minshuku Tsugizakura is the food. This was the best dinner (was like 8 courses) we had our entire time in Japan and this was quite possibly the best dinner I'd every had...ever...in all my travels. The combo of great food, great location, and clean, comfortable quarters make this a perfect stop along the trek.

A true gem
I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to stay at Minshuku Tsugizakura! The food is truly exceptional - given Mr. Yuba's long experience as a chef, each meal was an experience in itself and was presented as though we were in a gourmet restaurant! Even the packed bento lunch was prepared with meticulous care. It was also really sweet how Mrs. Yuba gave us extra snacks after we checked in and saw that we were really hungry. The room was very large, with a separate space with a kotatsu and the futon had a heated rug underneath (great for the cold nights!). Couples can go into the small shared bath together, too. You can tell they truly take pride and what they do and enjoy hosting people! Would love to stay here again!

Fabulous!
From the friendly welcome to the wonderful and delicious food, my stay here was most enjoyable. The futon bed was comfortable, the onsen bath nice and hot, the room had everything I needed. Dinner was a gourmet 8 courses, everything and absolute feast for the senses, as was breakfast. And next day, despite a horrible walk in torrential rain and high winds,the lunch provided was beautifully wrapped and presented, substantial, sustaining, and kept me going.

One of best experience ever!
Mr. and Mrs. Yuba are fantastic hosters, they do everything it is possible to assure that the guest can have an extraordinary experience. They are very kind and warm, would not hesitate in recommend this minshuku. Besides, Mr. Yuba is a fantastic cuisine chef who worked in very famous restaurants in Osaka. Absolutely fantastic.

Wonderful stay at Minshuku Tsugizakura
We went out of our way to book a stay at Minshuku Tsugizakura, and are very glad to have done so. The hosts were welcoming, kind, and fantastic cooks. Having Christopher around as a bilingual interpreter was also very useful.

I loved this place
We had such a wonderful time here. After a full day hike, we were really tired. So it was great to be received so kindly and to be able to enjoy the hospitality of this great place. If you walk the Nakahechi part of the Kumanokodo, this is, logistically one of the best options for a break. Most accommodation is found a bit earlier on the trail, which leaves you with a really long hike on day 2. This accommodation made hiking just that bit easier. And the food... It is simply the best we have eaten during our entire time in Japan.

Nice and kindly

Best food on our hike, and we had some good food elsewhere!
This minshuku is right off the trail. Our room was large, with 2 sleeping rooms (one for us, another for the kids) and a living room. The food was the highlight, with an elaborate multi-course dinner and breakfast. The bento packed for our hike the following day was the best we had in Japan, along with a surprise of 3 (still soft) rice balls - all different. The husband and wife team who run this minshuku are kind and warm. I hope to be able to return there in the future.

少し早い夏休みをとり、夫婦で、初めて熊野古道中辺路をウォーキングすることにしました。結構過酷なウォーキングだと聞いていたので不安でいっぱいでしたが、民宿つぎざくらさんに宿泊させていただき、明るい雰囲気な宿、美味しいお料理を頂き、熊野古道中辺路のウォーキングを終えることができました。お料理は、最高でした。お弁当も、最高でした。大変お世話になり、ありがとうございました。

5 stars dinner in Japan with the warmest hosts
This minshuku was a jewel to us. The hosts were incredibly warm even if they spoke Japanese and we only spoke English. They manage to create a perfect atmosphere that we could feel in the air. We read a few good reviews about the dinner, but despite so we were impressed by the quality and the careful presentation. What a gift after several hours of walk! At dinner time, Christopher explained every course in detail in English. The private onsen was impeccable and the rooms clean and spacious. We highly recommend this minzhuku

My best experience in Japan for a month !
Thanks a lot again for your greeting. Everything was just perfect. There are all the things you can think of here (tooth brush, towel, medicine, shampoo, tissues ...) The place is perfectly quiet and really cosy and comfortable. If I could, I would have put a 6 stars for the food. So delicate, so beautiful to see and so amazing to eat. I had the impression of having a real Japanese experience here.

Fantastic!
A truly outstanding accommodation! The room was lovely, but it was the food and service that really stood out. When we arrived after a long day of hiking, we were immediately directed to a hot bath, given yukatas to change into, and served green tea and homemade sweets. Mr. Yuba is a professional chef and his food was by far the best we had on the trip. We also really loved the communal atmosphere. Highly recommend!

The best stay and food along Kumano Kodo
This was by far the best experience we had along the Kumano Kodo trail. We arrived around 5:30pm and our hosts were outside waiting for us! We lucked out and were the only guests so they opened all their three rooms for us to use. Everything was clean and orderly. The dining place has mountain views!! The best part of it was the food - obviously done by an accomplished chef but also done with love and care. We felt very much taken cared of. Mr. Yuba even dropped us off to the bus station the next morning.

Excellent experience
This was a truly wonderful experience. Mr and Mrs. Yuba are very warm and welcoming hosts, into their impeccable home. It was very relaxing after the day's walk to have a nice onsen which was at a comfortable temperature, and in general one feels very at ease in their home, where every little detail is minutely thought out. The highlight, though, is the meals, which are truly magnificent and worth the journey in themselves. I have been to many very highly (Michelin) ranked restaurants and this is comfortably on par, if not better. The cherry on top is a delicious packed lunch for the departure day prepared with great love and care. Book without hesitation, and be ready to enjoy yourself. Unrelated to the Minshuku, but to the booking system - whilst I was told by the central office that I needed to stay the night closer to the Minshuku to walk there as it was supposed to take 7 or so hours, the walk from Takajiri only took me four hours (of walking, with an extra half an hour of breaks). So one does not need to stress about this and it is perfectly feasible to leave from Osaka early in the morning.

Delightful service and food in a comfortable setting.
Although the room was very close to the adjoining one everything else about this accommodation was excellent. The hosts could not do enough for us and were very friendly and servedmtop quality cuisine including the lunch they sent us off with. Sitting in the forest eating their food prepared with so much care we wished we could thank them so hopefully they read this review. The house was spotlessly clean and such a lovely retreat.

After an exhausting day of hiking, we enjoyed a relaxing evening and a fantastic meal in Minshuku Tsugizakura (prepared by the host, a professional cook who had worked in hotels all over Japan). The hosts speak only little English but have young helpers from New Zealand who explained things for us and helped with the communication. Charming place, very nice owners
The owners were very kind and caring about their guests, always smiling and putting effort to create nice atmosphere in the minshuku, asking us some questions and making conversation. Their English speaking employee was also very nice and helpful, explaning a lot about fantastic dishes made by the owner. What a meal! The place was very charming, clean and comfy.

My experience at the Minshuku Tsugizakura was nothing short of amazing! They offered a warm welcome and wonderful room, their hospitality was amazing, kind and thoughtful. Most friendly stay
The friendly couple who run this Guesthouse were the friendliest and most generous couple. They met me on the street with an umbrella (it was snowing) and walked with me part of the way to the bus stop the next day. The food cooked is incredible and of far better quality than I anticipated. Be sure to taste their homemade umeshi.

2組限定の意味が分かった。まずは部屋ではだれの干渉もなくのんびりとできる。そして、おかみさんの気遣いがありがたい。初めて出会った同宿の客との仲をつないでくれる。少し心が打ち解けたところで、ご主人の手料理が運ばれてくる。その心のこもった数々の料理のおいしさ。それを同宿の相手と一緒に酒を飲みながら過ごす。気づけばご主人やおかみさんも一緒になって、にぎやかなひと時を過ごすことができた。翌朝の朝食も本当においしかった。料理のおいしさを伝える言葉が乏しいのが残念だ。旅立ちの時、みんなが見送ってくれた。何か、田舎の親せきの家に泊まったかのような感じがした。今度は、連れ合いもつれてこよう。グルメな連れ合いが喜ぶ顔が目に浮かぶ。

5-star minshuku on the Nakahechi route
We were glad we walked the extra 90 minutes on day 1 of our hike to stay at Minshuku Tsugizakura. We have read the reviews but we were still surprised by the quality of service provided. With the welcome tea set, 12-course meal turn down service plus other attention to details (including plaster for blister :-), we felt as if we were staying in a ryokan. That said, Minshuku Tsugizakura might consider installing a more conspicuous sign en route at the turn-off. We missed the signage and walked almost out of Tsugizakura before turning back. Just as we were getting desparate (no mobile signal, not a soul on the road and getting dark fast) a car magically appeared and the very nice Australian gentleman (!) behind the wheel gave us detailed instructions on how to get there. We should have checked the minshuku's location beforehand but a larger signage would be nice.

Best accommodation on the Nakaechi Route
In our Kumano Kodo hike, we stayed at 3 different lodgings and Minshuku Tsugizakura was by far the most comfortable and enjoyable. And it has the best food ! The owner's wife put two layers of padding when she laid out our tatami bed before dinner time and it was extremely comfortable. Dinner was an elaborate, multi-course, kaiseki style meal that rivaled any that we had in Kyoto. We slept like a log that night ! Thank you Minshuku Tsugizakura !

Superb!
The effort and the quality of meals was beyond words. You cannot imagine this is the work of a B&B owner. It was way better than restaurant standard. Rooms size was generous. Bath room was a bit cramped for 2pax. Extremely nice people, only thing was lady kept hurrying us to go for bath, and in pairs! We felt a bit pushed.

The Yuba's: Worthy of a Shrine
After beginning the Kumano Kodo at Takijiri-oji in pouring rain and walking up a river for the first few hours before the sun broke through, we were barely dried out by the time we reached the Yuba's home late that afternoon. If they don't have it, you don't need it?even a boot brush! The food is exquisite and delicious, their hospitality generous and genuine.

Japanese High Class Cuisine
What can we say. One of the best banquets (it really is a wonderful feast) we have experienced in our lifetimes. The menu was amazingly well thought over and the table service was well done too. Minshuku Tsugizakara was one of the highlights of our trip (with a temple lodging in Koya-cho)
On arrival we received a very warm welcome and were treated on (hot) green tea with very nice mochi and very juicy tangerines. The washoku dinner (kaiseki - Mountain style) was superb, the best in town really. All dishes were great and very well presented. The Japanese breakfast was great as well. Great minshuku for the Kumano kodo
You will not go wrong with this minshuku- can not recommend it more! The hosts are generous and incredibly hospitable. They have a server who speaks perfect english if you are worries about language barriers. The food is incredible- including the fresh Mochi and macha green tea for the afternoon snack when you arrive. The view out over the mountains is also beautiful. (And the packed lunch is incredible! Warm, welcoming family experience.
Our hosts were amazing! From the moment we arrived weary and hungry, they welcomed us with an array of teas (even English tea with milk!) and some simple snacks. The room was spacious and comfortable and our host (a former Michelin chef!) prepared an 8 course feast; amazing!! We loved that the village was delightfully peaceful, perched in the mountains and were so grateful to our kind hosts who took great care and concern for us as a typhoon was predicted, and drove us 3 kms into the walk to avoid wind ravaged forest. These people are exceptional!

Great place on the trail with fantastic food
The food here is amazing. It's a small place in a small town, so calibrating my expectations there, this place was fantastic. I really enjoyed taking in the view from the front during sunset. It's right on the trail, so no need to walk extra at the end of the day. The packed lunch was superb.

Part of the family
This was a very warm happy family experience. The owners were incredibly thoughtful with all the little things they supplied free of charge to make their guests comfortable. The meals were superb and the New Zealand girl Amy who helped with the meals explained everything beautifully. The futons were so comfortable and the area is very quiet. The lovely chef even drove us down the hill to the bus stop in the morning! The rooms were a very generous size and it was a very relaxing experience.

The most oustanding meals of the trip, sensitively planned. The chef made a slight change to our meals (as Westerners) adding orange juice and yoghurt, much appreciated. Lunch box was also a work of art, and they had tea coffee and hot chocolate freely available to guests. Worth a trip to Japan for!
We tailored the dates of our Kumano Kodo walk around availability at Minshuku Tsugizakura after reading all the wonderful reviews ? and we are so glad we did! Everything about our stay here was exceptional ? from the tea, homemade-sweet and fresh fruit we received when we arrived, to the clean and well-appointed room, the beautiful large tub (shared privately per couple staying), absolutely perfect flower arrangements placed throughout the house and finally the meals ? which we almost didn't want to eat because they were so beautifully presented. The lunch box was also a work of art. Mr & Mrs Yuba were exceptional, warm hosts who we would recommend wholeheartedly and stay with again in an instant. Although we met many others on the trail who chose to stay in Chikatsuyu, we found the location in Tsugizakura to be a convenient place to stay between Takahara and Hongu as it spaced the walk lengths more evenly.

I would give more stars if I could.
Absolutely the best accommodation I've had. Rooms were clean and traditional with Wi-Fi. Toilets were western styled and had a bath that was digitally controlled. Meals were absolutely unbelievably good, every course during dinner was fantastic. The sheer quantity of dinner and breakfast was also huge, with every course being exquisitely prepared with heart by a retired famous chef. Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. 11/10.

Our second nights accommodation and the best of the three, due to the wonderful friendly service from Mr and Mrs Yubo. Both have a passion for looking after their guests well. Kumano kodo highlight!
We had the greatest time here - what a welcoming place! After a long day of walking we were immediately encouraged to relax. They have all the amenities you need (toiletries, even clothes washing facilities) so you won't need to bring much with you. After soaking in the bath you will then change into fresh yukata and feel clean as a whistle. As the dining room is quite small, we got to know the other guests and quickly became a little family. The host and chef are amazing, and the meals were exquisite. I would definitely recommend this minshuku to any travellers, and hope to one day visit again!

This was our best experience in Japan. The hospitality was wonderful, the beds (futons) super comfortable, the bath very well appointed. The meals were superb. There was a littlewelcome snack with tea, dinner was amazing (kaiseki style, each new dish beautifully presented and delicious), the same goes for the breakfast. The futons were prepared for us. We could get water, tea, coffee and even hot chocolate ourselves. There was also internet available against all expectation. The guesthouse is located a stonesthrow off the kumano kodo trail, just below Tsugizakura-oji. The view from the minshuku over the mountains and valley is great. In the morning the view of the mist hanging in the valley between the trees was amazing.

The owners are really welcoming. It was a pleasure to arrive and find a homemade sweet, fresh fruits, tea and a huge smile! Even though they couldn't speak english well they did everything to make us feel at home, and succeded: they were so nice we would have stayed longer with great pleasure! The food was just amazing, everything was excellent and prepard with great care. The lunchbox was the best we had. The minshuku's located in a lovely place, just next to the trail. The bath was clean and perfect for 2 people: I only gave 3 stars cause I compared with the one I tested in Yuomine Onsen, but it was perfect for a minshuku.

I couldn't believe that I had struck gold again with this guesthouse. Our hosts were lovely, warm and very welcoming and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. Best stay during the whole Kumano Kodo trip
The minshuku is a small house along the Kumano Kodo path. It is not difficult to find, but it is rather isolated - no train station, bus stop, convenience stores or restaurants near by. However, it all adds to the charm of the place. They accommodated the 5 of us in 3 conjoining rooms. Nothing fancy, but neat. The futon bedding was super comfortable and the temperature of the room could be easily adjusted. I loved loved loved the bathroom. Good shower with excellent pressure. The large bath tub was also awesome to soak in after a long day of walk. They provided yukata, haori and slippers for a more comfortable and authentic Japanese experience. We had the BEST dinner and breakfast all trip. The food served were exquisite and hit all the notes in our palates. Impressive. The couple at the minshuku were warm and helpful. Despite the language barriers, everything went ahead smoothly. They are the kindest people you will ever meet in your life. I wanted to give them a hug before we left but I didn't because I thought that this may be deemed inappropriate.

Everything here is perfect. Incredible views of mountains from the porch. Wonderful, kind, impeccably hospitable people. Excellent food. We had a whole suite including kotatsu and two rooms to ourselves for two people. Location is also more convenient if you do the trail backwards from Hongu Taisha as we did. Couldn't be any better.

滝尻王子を9：00に出発し、宿に15：30頃到着しました。 翌日は宿を7：00に出発し、本宮に14：00過ぎに到着しました。 滝尻から本宮まで１泊２日で歩くのに最適な立地にあり、大変助かりました。 近くにある名水である「野中の清水」が冷蔵庫に冷やしておいてくれあり、自由に飲めます。また、籠盛りの飴や湿布等もご自由にというサービスで気遣いに嬉しくなりました。 アメニティも完備で不自由することは一切ありませんでした。 食事は非の打ち所のない美味しさです。梅の枝が添えてあったりと演出も素晴らしく感動しました。 翌日のお弁当をお願いしたのですが、かなり豪華で（おにぎり3つ、おかずは別のパック、500mlお茶）、持ち歩きは重かったです。 朝日夕陽百選らしいのですが、天気が悪かったために一方杉からの朝日を見ることができず残念でした。また是非訪れたいです。

Best Food of My Trip
The rooms were simpler than the first Ryokan and the wonderful view was from the kitchen rather than the bedroom, but the food was great. Not just the best food on the hike but maybe the best food of our entire trip. Even the lunch the next day was great. Our host was very friendly as well. The minor critique was the garlic bread with breakfast wasn't very good but everything else was delicious.

Mr and Mrs Yuru are the most beautiful people and the warmest and friendiest hosts. Mr Yuru is a great chef. The food was of the highest standard. We were a family of 4 and were the only people staying there so we were offered to sleep in 3 separate rooms. It was cold in January but all the rooms were warm and comfortable, with heated rugs and heaters.

Most incredible food and welcoming host
I had a marvellous stay at Minshuku Tusgizakura! Although the accommodation is luxuriously comfortable the most stand-out part of my stay was in the exemplary friendly and professinal service provided by Mr and Mrs Yuba! Mr Yuba's cooking needs to be experienced to be believed, and Mrs Yuba was as warmly welcoming as a family member. I hope to return one day!

Most hospitable and generous host. Great place.
The is one of the best. The host went out of their way to be hospitable. Clean and a must stay place. The only down point is that the description on the Kumano travel website does not show that it is not on the Kodo path and it is on a street where the sign says not Kumano Kodo. Best to seek directions from the company before you get there.

A gem!
Everything was superb. Our hosts didn't speak much English, but we speak Japanese so communication was not an issue. Although the quality of accommodation is excellent, the food is the highlight. We enjoyed 'fine dining' on this trek. Our boxed lunch was also delicious and thoughtfully prepared. So many extra touches. Thank you to Mrs. A for driving us to the bus stop the next morning. A rare pleasure
Excellent accommodation, nice onsen for couples, and unbeatable hospitality. As other guests have noted, the meals are truly remarkable, especially after a hard day's worth of trekking. Rather than the traditional dinner served in your room or in separate tables, all the guests are served at a communal table, with all the other rigours otherwise observed. This makes it a pleasure to interact with the hosts and other travelers. The following morning the hosts drove us to the nearest bus stop. Highly, highly recommended.

Lovely place tot stay you feel very welcome.
We were a little bit early. But it didn't matter at all. The lady of the house welcomes you with all friendlyness and kindless as possible. It was a real warm welcome. The diner was excellent and we slept also very well. When we come back this is our place to be.

Already planning a return stay
We absolutely LOVED everything about Mishuku Tsugizakura. We have lived in Japan for nearly 8 years and so we have become a bit spoiled with the amazing hospitality one receives here. Still, the hosts at Minshuku Tsugizakura went above and beyond what we have come to expect. They are both lovely, generous people and were generous enough to take care of some special requests we made. THANK YOU! Minshuku Tsugizakura Lodge
This is a real family run hotel. The lady and her husband (who does the cooking) were absolutely wonderful - it was a real privilege to be the guests of such hospitable friendly people. We had a spacious room and the food was terrific. We had an enjoyable session taking photographs with the hosts and their new cat.

An amazing experience of Japan
This was one of my best night's on the Kumano. I showed up just as it started to pour and they took me in despite being an hour early. The view from the place is phenomenal. The room was comfortable, the bath was pleasant, yukata was provided and the meals were amazing! I would recommend it just for the 8 course dinner and fantastic breakfast. The hosts were warm and friendly. Highly suggest staying here!

10月15日に宿泊しました。滝尻から牛馬童子口まで来たとき、日の高い間に到着するのは無理と判断して、民宿に電話しましたら、ご主人が迎えに来てくれました。奥様もとってもフレンドリー。 評判の食事には大満足、朝の「おかえさん」も和歌山生まれの私には懐かしかったです。次ぎ来る機会があれば、また民宿つぎざくらに泊まりたいと思います。 同宿のイギリス人夫妻と夜遅くまでおしゃべりし、翌日以降の道中でも度々出会うなど、大変良い思い出ができました。そのイギリス人が、日本では毎日こんな豪華な朝ご飯を食べるのかと驚いていましたので、俺たちも家じゃ、あなた方同様、シリアルとコーヒーだよと言っておきました。「おかえさん」の説明もしておきました。 中辺路のルート、残念なのは、もう少し別の場所にも簡易なものでいいから宿泊施設があったらと思うことです。滝尻から本宮大社まで、近露に泊まれば翌日、継桜で泊まれば初日と、2日のうちどちらかは大変厳しくなります。

Very comfortable
Run by a lovely couple, with great hospitality. Immaculately clean. Nice deep and private bath, though lacking in "character" that some guest house baths have, it was nevertheless very welcome after a day's walking. The care and attention in the food preparation was obvious and much appreciated. My bedroom lacked any kind of a view, but it had everything i needed and there's a lovely view from the main communal area.

I agree with other reviewers that this was the best food experience we had along the trail. Superb cuisine! Great couple, warm and wonderful. We felt right at home here. This is a small place with just a couple bedrooms in their house so there is a feeling of being a guest in their home which is wonderful.

Our favourite stop on the walk
This was the best place we stayed. The owners were very welcoming - fresh fruit and tea as soon as we arrived. Absolutely fantastic meal with lots of courses. Beautifully presented lunch pack and a small gift. They waved us off on our way the next morning. I recommend that you stay here.

Wonderful hosts
Staying in this Japanese guest house was a great experience of Japanese llifestyle and generousity. We were served an 8 course meal which was very tasty. The host an emploed a young New Zealand women as a waittres who helped with communication. For diiner there were 5 of us, 2 australians, a spanish person, an italian person and 2 japanese and with the waittress's help, who also spoke japaese, we were able to communicate and had a great time.

This was our favourite stay on the entire trip!
If you have the chance, please stay here. The location makes a great stop at the end of the first day's walk from Takijiri-oji. It's a little far, but if you can make it, the second day is much easier. The husband & wife duo that run this guesthouse are so exceptionally accommodating, and the rooms are nice. The best thing is the food: expect a fantastic meal! Lastly, the bath is clean and warm, but there's no view.

So Friendly

Nice Place to Stay
Very welcoming and pleasant. Only quibble is that they didn't serve me some of the most traditional Japanese food because they thought I wouldn't like it as a foreigner. If you want to avoid some of the weirder stuff then this might be a good place for you, but if you want the full culinary experience then you might consider going somewhere else.

歩き疲れて到着したら、まずウェルカムドリンクとわらび餅、フルーツがあり、ほっと一息付けました。お風呂はグループで貸し切りのため、使用中は待たなくてはいけませんが、タオル類は使い放題、アメニティは一通り揃っており、お風呂も脱衣所も清潔で、気持ちよく汗を流すことができました。リフォームしたばかりということで、水回りは綺麗でした。部屋は日が入らないので、景色は楽しめません。 食堂は窓が多く開放的です。食事は特に夕食が民宿とは思えない豪華さでした。どれも手が込んでいて美味しく、見た目も美しく、手作りの梅ワイン、梅酒もとても美味しかったです。朝食も豪華で、お弁当も気遣いのあるものでした。出発前に冷蔵庫にある野中の清水をたっぷり水筒に分けて頂き、ちょっとしたお土産もあり、最後まで気持ちよく過ごせました。料理だけまた食べに行きたいくらいです。

Simply the best
This was the most amazing experience of Japanese hospitality we had in the whole holiday. Apart from the fact that the food was utterly sublime, the kindness and care of our hosts was beyond the call of duty. It was genuine hospitality, as though we were friends, not paying guests. We even had fresh flowers in our room and received a small purse as a gift when we left. The best lunch box of the trip as well - and probably the best picnic of our lives!

Amazing Experience
You simply cannot go wrong staying here. The hosts are friendly and super helpful. The food is outstanding. Room is very comfortable and they set up your bed while you're eating dinner. I messed up my knee during the walk, and they were nice enough to provide anti-inflammatory wraps and to drive me to the bus stop the next morning. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful and welcoming stay
This was my best accommodation during my trip in Japan. The couple are really lovely, they provide all those little extras, very comfy futon and devine food made with care. I sat and enjoyed all these multiple courses with candlelight and a view of the mountains. Couldn't recommend this accommodation more. The send off was also do personal.

The best stay: food, people, amazing!
This was the best accomodation during our 5 night hike. The hosts were so generous, caring, and kind. We had a 3 bedroom suite, the food was like a 3 michelin star experience. Breastfast was 19 plates and cups! Dinner was incredible!! Stay here!!

Minshuku Tsugizakura
As my first time in a minshuku I really enjoyed the warm hospitality of the owners and the care and service they provided particularly after a very wet day of hiking. The food here was really outstanding including the lunch box which contained a most surprising assortment in the bento box and the rice cakes were rather special. The hosts were exceptional in their capacity to make you welcome and relaxed. Quiet and peaceful.

We stayed a night at the lodge and were pampered by the hosts with warm hospitality and great food. The food was tradition, delicious and plentiful. Drinking water was spring water and tastes sweet, perfect after a day's hike. We had a good night's sleep and were recharged the next day, only to wake up to a quaint road that overlooks clusters of clouds drifting over the green hills. What a sight indeed!

A more conventional bath and lack of an en-suite toilet were the only slight negatives for this minshuku. A Little Gem
Minshuku Tsugizakura is a fantastic place, the owners are friendly and accommodating and the room we were allocated was really to rooms together. After a day of walking in the rain along the Kumano Kodo we were treated to some traditional sweets and a hot onsen. The husband and wife team are great cooks and spoil their guests rotten. Definitely recommended.

民宿つぎざくら
初めての熊野古道を６５才が一人旅で挑戦しました。 ２日目の行程を考慮して、１日目は頑張って継桜王子まで行って宿泊することにし、熊野ﾂｰﾘｽﾞﾑﾋﾞｭｰﾛｰさんのサイトで見つけた民宿を予約しました。 当日は、男性客ばかりでしたが、初対面ながら皆で歓談しながら楽しい夕食をいただきました。食事内容（味・量）はサイコーでした。 お風呂、部屋はリフォームされたばかりで清潔で大変満足しました。 朝食も品数豊富でご飯のお替りをし、リッチな気持ちで一日のスタートを切ることができました。ありがとうございました。

Warm welcome and truly fine dining experience for dinner
We had a lovely time, relaxing in the baths after we arrived to soak out sore muscles, and then sitting down to a gourmet dinner. Thank your for all the little touches, from putting together our beds for us, providing pajamas and over-jackets, and driving us to the bus stop the following morning.

A wonderful stay
I felt very welcomed and well looked after following a long day's hike. The hosts were very kind and welcoming, the food was incredible and the hot bath bliss! The hosts even drove me to the bus stop in the morning, which was very kind of them. The only problem I would mention is that my room smelled a little of mildew. Other than that, it was spotlessly clean, you can do a load of washing and they even have pyjamas for you! The meals were a highlight not only of my stay but of my entire trip to Japan. Make sure you try the ume wine, it's delicious.

滝尻王子から一日歩いてきて、継桜王子に到着後、すぐそばにある立地。 綺麗な部屋に足を伸ばして浸かれる湯船があるお風呂、美味しい食事、経営されているご夫婦も何から何まで丁寧に気を配って下さり、一日目の疲れをしっかり癒すことが出来ました。 熊野古道自体にもすっかりハマってしまい、また歩く際にも是非利用させていただきたいお宿です。

A gastronomic extravaganza...if that's what you want
It almost breaks my heart not to give this five stars. The owners would definitely get 6 for effort and that, maybe, was part of the problem. The welcome and continual service was all a bit overwhelming. The owner is clearly an outstanding cook. We had an eight-course dinner and breakfast was not much less spectacular. Problem was that it was all a bit much, especially first thing in the morning. We understand that they offer a Western breakfast, but we never spotted it. You might want earplugs if you have a room in the west of the building as that is by the ""service area"" No wifi and precious little signal - if that's important to you.

Best minshuku ever!
Very comfortable rooms (i loved the room with kotatsu). Scenic location, good bath (inoki bath tube). The meals were fantastic: beautiful to see and very very tasty to eat. All cooked with fresh and local ingredients. The couple who runs the minshuku is simply lovely (and Taro-chan, the cat, too!) and they made me feel at home (even better).

Best Minshuku stay in Japan

Not to be missed! Warm hospitality & incredible food on a peaceful mountain top
Our stay with the Yubas was one of the highlights of our trip. Their hospitality was thoughtful and warm, their home thoughtfully arranged for visitors and the food was amazing - we would give it 10 stars! The best food of the trip and the best Japanese lunch box I've ever had. The view from their home over the mountains was like a picture book. Our visit to this minshuku was one of the highlights of our entire trip. We can't recommend it highly enough.

17KM歩いて、もうだめってくじけそうな心で見つけた「つぎざくら」さんの標識。玄関脇のキッチンからご主人の笑顔でほっとしたのかうれしさと脱力でブーツを脱ぎ捨て、部屋へなだれ込み、暫くは動かずに足にたまった疲労感を楽しんでいると、奥様が冷たいお茶とワラビ餅を出してくれて、美味しかったですね！食事も大満足です。お風呂も２人でも充分な広さでアメニティも充実していて、ゆっくりできました。次の日のお弁当もすごく美味しかったのでお弁当付がお勧めです。

Excellent place to stay!
We were the only ones who stayed there for a while (july), and the stay was superb! Friendly, helpful and welcoming service. And the food was absolutely truly amazing! After a long and wet day, relaxing was just what we needed, and more than we hoped for. The lunch box next day was also a treat! I strongly recommend Minshuku Tsugizakura!

Very hospitable; excellent food
The accommodation is very well furnished and the food was fantastic - I dined like a king! The bathroom was also very luxurious - I enjoyed a long soak in the already filled bath tub. It was great to be able to use the tumble dryer (for free) to dry off my wet clothes and newspaper and a hairdryer was very thoughtfully provided to dry my shoes. Although the owners do not speak much English, this did not cause any problems as translations of certain less obvious things had been provided by the Tourism Bureau and hand gestures did the rest. I was made to feel very welcome.

Tsugizakura
We arrived at Tsugizakura after a one day walk from Takijiri Oji. we did the last 3 hours under the rain and we arrived wet and pretty tired, but the welcome by the owners was wonderful: they helped us with our backpacks and anoraks, their kindness made us feel like being at home. The dinner was simply fantastic and the lunchbox was perfect for the second day of hiking. Last but not least, the location of minshuku Tsugizakura is absolutely enchanting. Thanks again

Our favorite place to stay on the Kumano Kodo!!!
The Minshuku Tsugizakura was by far our favorite experience on the Kumano Kodo. The Yuba family were extremely warm, kind and generous. We were given three full rooms in their home, and the meals they prepared were spectacular and delicious! We had a traditional Kaiseki meal that was unforgettable. When it rained the next day, Mr. Yuba kindly drove us to the bus station. Staying at the Tsugizakura felt the most personal and authentic out of all of the wonderful places we stayed in Japan.

Warm stay and excellent food!
We arrived here on our second day of the Kumano Kodo. When we arrived we were so warmly greeted we felt like we were at home. We shared a large room between 4 people and it was nice to share meals together. The rooms were comfortable and cozy. We opted for both dinner and breakfast. Not only were the meals a feast for the eyes but everything was delicious! We also opted for the bento box which was perfect for the long hike. We will always remember the warmth and generosity of our hosts. One thing to keep in mind is that the guest house is about 1 to 1.5 hours away from the small town. So you'll need to stock up anything if you decide to continue on the pilgrimage hike as it was an 8 hour hike to our next destination.

My girlfriend and I spent 1 night here at Minshuku Kuraya and it was amazing! We did a less traditional trip, choosing to take the train from Kyoto to Kii-Tanabe, before taking a bus towards Hongu and getting off at Nonaka-no-Ipposugi (a 65min bus ride). It's then a 1.5km uphill walk to the place, but very easy to find with the map provided at the information kiosk in Kii-Tanabe. We arrived a little earlier than expected (2pm), but we settled in right away and were given mochi rice cakes and green tea. She then heated up the bath, which is single-seating, but very pretty and warm. Dinner was fantastic kaiseki style. So many courses. So delicious. Sleeping is traditional tatami straw mats with futon and blankets. It was cold in the area but heaters provided enough warmth. Breakfast was similarly also really good and filling, and packed lunch was delicious on the cold road of Kumano Kodo. Easily one of the best, if not the best place I stayed during my time in Japan (inclusive of Tokyo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, etc).

The best minshuku we've stayed in - A very special place!
We stayed here on the 2nd of 5 nights walking the Kumano Kodo. It is a small minshuku, run by a lovely couple who were very friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit early and were content to wait nearby, however they spotted us and we were ushered in and made to feel very welcome. The husband does the cooking and all the food was wonderful. The dinner and breakfast were spectacular and the lunch box was the best we had in Japan. The rooms were simple, spacious and there were fresh flowers arrangements. The owners also helped some walkers who were staying elsewhere by contacting the other accommodation and arranging for the walkers to be collected.

After reading the reviews for this Minshuku, we decided to make this our first stopover during our 3 day trip along Kumano Kodo. We started at Takijiri Oji, and after around 8 hours of walking we arrived at Minshuku Tsugizakura to be very warmly welcomed! Even though we arrived much earlier than indicated in our booking, the owners were very accommodating. They immediately provided us with a small snack and cool tea that tasted wonderful after a long day. Soon after the even prepared the bath for us to relax. They had all you need, including pyjamas, shampoo, towels, laundry and drier, everything you need! As for our room, it was much bigger than we expected and very nicely decorated. The highlight of the trip was definitely the food! Even after reading all the good reviews about the food, we were still extremely surprised. Dinner consisted of a number of courses, with much of it sourced from local produce. I must say it the dinner was probably one of the best meals I've ever had in Japan! For breakfast we were again provided with a range of small dishes and was a great start for the day. We also opted for lunch, and we really enjoyed the handmade food on the next day which consisted of onigiri and a number of small side dishes. We were also given a bottle of green tea too! The minshuku is easily accessed along Kumano Kodo (you have to walk down some stairs near Tsugizakura-Oji) and also from a bus stop. We recommend every visitor to Kumano Kodo to consider staying here :)

Gorgeous lodging in the hills
I felt very welcome during my stay with Minshuku Tsugizakura, and my hosts did everything they could to make my stay more enjoyable. Wonderful stay, amazing food and sweet owners
Our stay here was amazing. The husband and wife running the Minshuku were so very sweet. We hiked to the Minshuku, arrived sweaty and exhausted. The two of them were looking out for us (even though we hadn't given an arrival time) and immediately made us feel welcome and relaxed. The bath is even great for not being a ryokan. There is only one - so it works as a private bath not separated by gender - but we were a couple so that was great. It was relatively small, but made of the traditional onsen cedar with a wonderful smell. I would absolutely go back here anytime!

Fabulous stay
Our party of six rated this the highlight of our three nights of accommodation on the Kumano Kodo, just ahead of Kiri-no-Sato (which was wonderful, too). Minshuku Tsugizakura exceeded all our expectations ... attentive and welcoming hosts, a superb meal from Yuba-san and great advice on how to tackle the next day's walk. Highlight of the week
This is a special place. We arrived just as the typhoon rains set in, and were welcomed by our hosts with towels and much attention. The 3 (!) interconnecting tatami rooms were very comfortable, with views to the mountains outside. The shared bathroom was large and fastidiously clean. The meals were almost beyond description. Dinner was easily the best meal of the trip and up there with the best enjoyed in this country over several trips. Fresh, inventive yet traditional, beautiful and certainly tasty. We were sent off the next morning with dry clothes and complementary towels to soak up the impending rain. A wonderful experience.

Outstanding - worthy of recognition from Wakayama prefecture (yes, it's that good).
During our trek on the Kumanokodo, we stayed at places costing close to twice the amount of Minshuku Tsugizakura, yet this was by far the best place we stayed in here. We felt relaxed and at home. They very kindly offered to pick us up at short notice. And the food: I have lived in Japan for 3 years and this was in the top three. They are a class act and, judging from the near-unanimous positive reviews that can be found on-line, surely deserve recognition. Thank you for a great stay.

とにかく食事がおいしかった。懐石風で、見た目も味も民宿とは思えない内容です。ご主人が京都のほうで修業されたとか。 ３年前に開業とのこと。清潔感にあふれ、特に風呂、トイレ、洗面所は小物やアメニティがしっかり取りそろえられ、オーナーの細やかな気遣いが感じられます。 汗びっしょりで着いたのですが、すぐ洗濯機と乾燥機を使わせてもらい、助かりました。 静岡からうかがったのですが、もっと近ければ何度でもうかがいたいほどです。 居心地のよい一泊でした。

Mrs. Taiko and his husband are very nice and they did their best to make us feel like at home. I appreciated very much the meals: they tasted very delicate and refined than in the other hotel and minshuku were we stayed in our japan trip. Also the environment was quiet and comfortable and in the bathroom there was even some body cream! Just a tip: the house is not easy to find because there are no indications in English along the way: an english sign might help others guests to find this beautiful place.

A marvellous stay
Nous avons beaucoup apprecie ce sejour, l'accueil chaleureux des hotes vraiment tres devoues. La cuisine etait d'un tres haut niveau (et pour cause, le proprietaire etait un cuisinier professionnel). Friendly Owners, Delicious Food, Beautiful Minshuku
This is a great minshuku for those looking to sleep in japanese-style rooms (with tatami mats, etc) and looking for a meal (with plenty to eat). The owners were very friendly, and I got the chance to practice my japanese, although the owners were willing to do their best to explain when I didn't understand something in japanese. Check out the natural water spring just a 30 second walk away.

Best Place I Have Ever Stayed
I loved my stay at Minshuku Tsugizakura! The couple who run the place were incredibly kind and friendly, so much so that as soon as I got there I felt so welcome it was like I was staying with relatives. The room and facilities were immaculate and incredibly comfortable, and the home cooked dinner and breakfast (and tea and wagashi on arrival) were carefully presented and beyond delicious. I was sad to leave the next morning, I would visit these two kind hearted owners again in a heartbeat. Thank you for the best stay on my pilgrimage!

Warm hospitability.
This is a simple minshuku with extremely warm and hardworking owners. Indeed, their kindness sets it apart from other lodging. The food was excellent and bountiful. 中辺路（滝尻→那智）の旅の一日目のお宿でした。全てがパーフェクトでした。お宿に到着したのが１５時半ころ。到着してからお風呂の支度ができる間に出された抹茶のわらび餅と、お出迎えから感激です。 お風呂は檜で、香りもよく、シャワーも二口あって広い！アメニティの揃い方も細やかな心配りを感じます。 お食事は、評判通りの素晴らしさでした。地場のもの、季節のものを堪能させて頂きました。朝食も茶粥などたくさんの品数、お弁当もめはり寿司に心のこもったおかずの数々、発心王子でお弁当の包みを開けた時、とても嬉しかったです。 立地は継桜王子からすぐ、古道からほとんど離れることがありません。そしてすぐ近くに湧き出ている野中の清水が美味しいことこの上ありません。 客室に生けられているお花、部屋着、冷蔵庫には清水が冷やしてあり、アメニティには湿布まで、大変心地よい空間の中、奥様のすてきな笑顔に癒され、最高の時間を過ごすことができました。 またなんとか機会を作って、お世話になりたいお宿です。ありがとうございました。

Amazing stay
This was the best we could hope for after a long day of walking. The hosts were amazing, very friendly and helpful, despite the language barriers. My favorite inn in Japan
The food prepared by Minshuku Tsugizakura was easy the best I had in Japan: each dish was delicious and unique. It was so good that I have a photo of each course to help me remember it. The service was also excellent, and the setting, especially the view from the front porch, is beautiful. Hiking Kumano Kodo and staying at Minshuku Tsugizakura are the two new experiences from this trip that I will most recommend to friends who visit Japan.

まず最初に、熊野ツーリズムビューロのフルクボさん、宮崎さん、本当にお世話になりました。 お二人とも非常に丁寧かつ親切な対応には感謝と共に頭が下がる思いです。 心を込めてお仕事されていることがよく分かります。 つぎざくらさんに就いては民宿ということもあり、ハッキリ言ってあまり期待もしておりませんでした.....しかし、ご夫婦の心のこもった笑顔と接客態度に私も家族も非常に心が和み、お風呂もゆったりとした檜風呂で息子と楽しんで入浴させて頂きました。 食事は懐石スタイルでお味も素晴らしく、流石に有馬で腕を磨かれただけのことはあると堪能させて頂きました。 お蔭でついついお酒も進んでしまいました。 お部屋も広く使わせて頂き、グッスリ休むことが出来ました。 翌朝の朝食も量、質共に素晴らしく堪能させて頂くことが出来ました。 本当に有難うございました、正直言ってあの内容で今回の価格では申し訳ない思いで恐縮してしまいました。 次回も是非こちらへ泊まらせて頂きたいと思います。 良いお宿をご紹介いただき有難うございました。

Amazing
The owners gave us a warm greeting and then opened up their home to us. The warm bath was a perfect way to relax after the arduous hike. We were offered tea and wagashi, the use of the washer and dryer for free and treated like we were family. Dinner was absolutely delicious. The takenoko was some of the best we had all trip. Every course was a highlight! This was a great deal and one of the nicest placesg we stayed on our trip!

Some of our best memories in Japan!
We arrived to this minshuku wet from walking about 20km under heavy rain. But our stay at Tsgizakura Minshuku made us forget about this difficult day. Both owners were very welcoming upon arrival and we were able to wash and dry our clothes and then take a hot bath. Supper was nothing less than a feast for eyes and tongue. Owners did not speak much english, but this was not a problem. We slept like babies and were fresh for the next day walk. You won't regret your stay!

Arrived dripping wet but were immediately welcomed with open arms, relieved of our wet packs and clothes and shown into our warm room, which was very spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Wonderful Kumano Kodo experience
We went for a two day hike on the Nakahechi-Route of the Kumano Kodo Trail from Takijiri to Hongu. From there we went on by bus to Yunomine Onsen and Kawayu Onsen and further to hatayama Taisha and Nachi Taisha. Unfortunately we had very heavy rain the first day but since we were well equipped with raingear it wasn't too bad. The staf at Minshuku Tsugizakura were very welcoming and anticipated every wish we had. We had three big 8-Tatami Rooms all for ourselves, and right at our arrival the hot bath was prepared. But the best part of our stay was the incredible dinner which was better than in some much more expensive Hotels. The owner is a very good chef and knows about the hikers' needs for hearty food. We had a wonderful stay there and after a night with some thunderstorms we also had a wonderful second hiking day with sunshine and blue sky. Whenever we come back to Kumano Kodo we will visit this lovely minshuku again. Highly recommended!

This is a Gem
Minshuku Tsugizakura, a traditional Japanese-style house, has spacious, beautifully decorated guest rooms. The view from the house is a breathtaking vista of mountains. The owners are extremely kind and helpful. The meals are quite simply fantastic: one of the owners is a professional chef, and the cuisine is among the best I have ever eaten in Japan. Even the lunch box is outstanding. The house is close to the Nonaka springs, and guests can fill their water bottles with delicious Nonaka water from big bottles in the house fridge.

熊野古道歩き、山の中の民宿で驚きの会席料理 「つぎざくら」
大阪八軒浜から歩き始め8回で滝尻。先日は、絶好の秋の晴天の下、熊野古道のハイライト、滝尻から本宮大社へ一泊二日で楽しませていただきました。 一泊二日で歩くには、ちょうど中間にある「つぎざくら」への宿泊が最も便利！！立地も古道の直ぐそばである。 行程が早く進んだので、宿に立寄り、荷物を置かせていただき小広峠まで・・・ご主人に迎えをお願いすると、気持ちよく聞いていただき、その上、温泉に入りたいという、私たちのわがままにも、、、タオルとパジャマを車に積んで、小広峠から近露温泉へ直行していただいた。温泉は肌がヌルッとこれまた最高！！疲れが吹っ飛びました。 さて、夕食。元料理人のご主人が腕を振るう会席料理が、元旅館で仕事をされた奥さまの絶好のタイミングで、、、季節感たっぷり舌だけでなく目でもの実に美味しい食事とおもてなし。ホントお腹いっぱい堪能させていただきました。お料理が美味しすぎ、少し、お酒が進んで・・・ お部屋も掃除が行き届き、民宿とは思えない お花や、お人形、小物が飾られ、古民家の良さが演出されていました。 また、シップが準備されており、翌日の古道歩きにスッカリと筋肉痛も解消！！ グッスリと休ませて戴き、朝食も一流旅館のようで、バランスがよく、茶粥も戴き、お腹いっぱい！！ 早朝から、昨日の小広峠まで送っていただき、、、お蔭様で余裕のある行程で本宮まで。朝、お腹いっぱい戴いたので、昼食は大斎原で、ご主人に作っていただいたお弁当 を、これもまた、心のこもった色々なおかずがつめられ、竹皮に包まれたオニギリには「めはり寿司」も。。。ほんと、楽しい熊野古道を、見も心もリフレッシュさせていただきました。 機会（古道だけでなく、仕事でも）があれば、是非、また泊めて戴きたいお宿です。 ありがとうございました。

本当のおもてなしを受けて感動しました！
私たちは40代の夫婦で今回、初めての熊野古道に挑戦しました。中辺路の一泊目の宿として「つぎざくら」さんに宿泊し、細部にわたるおもてなしに心から感動しました。部屋は三間も使わせて頂き、お風呂も清潔でお湯が一杯に張ってあり、食事は元料理人のご主人の腕前を存分に発揮され、その他にも寝間着もバッチリ、立派な生け花、へとへとで到着した際の葛餅のおもてなし、糊の効いたシーツ…などなど、「熊野に田舎の実家ができた」かのような気分で、初古道の疲れが一夜にして回復してしまいました。おかげさまで翌日は本宮大社まで歩ききることができました。このような投稿文はいつも書かないのですが、今回はこれから古道を歩かれる方の参考になればと、送らせていただきました。本当にありがとうございました。

Great hosts, delicious food
I loved everything about this minshuku; it was even better than i expected. The owners were lovely and did everything to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are very clean, spacious and equipped with everything you might need (washing machine, coffee kitchen, hair dryer etc.). The location is perfect: right by the Kumano Kodo, with a beautiful view over the surrounding mountains. The food was excellent and almost more than i could eat.

lovely place and very warm welcome
Loved to spend the night here, the place was just great and very easy to find. After a day of hiking we couldn't be more pleased to arrive to this minshuku. The rooms were very nice decorated and the view from the house was wonderful. The owners were very welcoming and made us feel like home, they took us to a nearby onsen and helped us in everything they could. The food was awesome, truly delicious! I would definitely love to come back.

This was a wonderful experience of what a traditional Japanese Minshuku should be. It was a little expensive, but you get what you pay for and it was certainly worth the money. There are only two guest rooms, so you are made to feel like a very special guest. The owner used to be a chef in a restaurant in Osaka, so the food is outstanding, made from natural, local, ingredients and not adjusted for Western tastes in any way. The meal was Kaiseki Ryori, with lots of small dishes giving a chance to experience many different tastes and flavous. Although the owners can't speak much English, they tried their best and wanted to make sure you enjoyed the experience as much as possible. Key information had been translated into English by the Kumano Tourist Board and put onto laminated cards, which made things easier. The location was just a 2 minute walk from the Kumano Kaido in front of the Tsugizakura Shrine - perfect for an early start the next day.

Tsugizakura Minshuku
This lovely Minshuku was one of the highlights of our visit to the Kii Peninsular. It is wonderfully located for those walking the Kumano-kodo, as we were, being just off the trail at the Tsugizakura-ji. The rooms are exceptional: spacious, tastefully decorated and quiet. Our hosts were most accommodating and helped us with washing, drying and showed us to the nearby spring. The meal (supper & breakfast) were a real treat - healthy, full of delicate flavours and interesting new ingredients. We are vegetarian and were aware that the Minshuku does not normally do vegetarian meals, but they really went to town for us. It was a real pity we only had one night here.

I recieved an awesomely friendly welcome, the place is in a great location right next to a spring and the amazing food was the best I had during my stay in Japan. I can't recommend this place enough!

superdeluxe minshuku
This was our absolute favorite minshuku of all the ones we've stayed at in Japan! The owners are extremely welcoming, warm and friendly people and even though they don't speak much English, they'll use whatever they can to explain you about the food or the house, make you feel at home and comfortable. The meals were awesome! Our expectations about the chief-cook were exceded by the pieces of art served for dinner, breakfast and the lunck box.

Minshuku Tsugizakura
This was an exceptional experience I shall treasure. The food & service could not have been better. The accommodation was simple and comfortable. My hosts were the best. As for pre-trip planning: I did not have a detailed map for the Minshuku's detailed location in advance and so walked past it before seeking local help in finding it.

Very warm welcome
Exquisite guestroom in an ideal location for Kumano Kodo hikers, with a nice peaceful landscape and most of all a very warm welcome by the tenants. Best dinner ever experiences in the area, notably with delightful vegetables and memorable ume wine. Also the English translation table for meal pieces is also a good idea for a foreign guest.

滝尻王子から熊野本宮に向かう道中の数少ない宿というだけでなく、心温まるおもてなしと、地元の食材と野中の清水を活かしたこだわりの料理にとても感動し、２回目を利用しましたが、変わらずに暖かく迎えていただきました。ありがとうございました。今後も利用させていただきたいと思っています。

Better impossible
We can not think of a better place to arrive after a 6 hour trek under the rain. We felt at home immediatly in this lovely Minshuku. And what to say about the dinner!!!!!!!, it was like being in a 5 stars restaurant but for the 2 of us alone and wearing pijammas! Better impossible. Thanks a lot for your hospitality, we'll always remember this place.

Loved It!
I can't say enough great things about this place. The owners were super friendly and they made me feel warm and comfortable in this cute little place. They made probably the best dinner I had in Japan. It was just a great experience.

Very nice and friendly Minshuku, very clean with a small but clean bathroom. The couple was so nice. A highlight for me was the Dinner (8 services!!!) and all the Ikebana arrangements in every room. Every single room with love for details. The view was also wonderfull, even if the street is in front but less travel, only a small mountainroute. I had a great sleep.

Genuine and wonderful experience
We had a wonderful welcome at this little minshuku in tsugizakura, although the owners speak only a few words english and we don't speak any Japanese we felt right at home and understood. Thank you for a hartwarming welcome in your home!
