全国初「源泉かけ流し宣言」をした、奈良県は十津川村に位置する行者民宿 太陽の湯です。国道から見ると２階建てに見えますが、山の斜面に建っているので、実は６階建です。

Good food and very nice onsen, a wonderful experience
The reception in this Minshuku was a bit strange, it took us a while to find somebody. The room was comfortable, although we did find the matrasses too thin. We know that this is typical for Japan and we had already some experience with this but this was the first time we did not find the bedding comfortable. The food was excellent. The nicest thing about this place was the private onsens in the building. Lying in an onsen on a balcony with a wonderful view was a dream.

Cheap and convenient onsen to stay
My room was very big and the views were amazing. I also enjoyed the onsen baths they have. The only problem is that the place it is a bit old and it need some maintenance.

Good stay in Kawayu Onsen
Rooms are clean and we have access to 3 separate onsen bath rooms. 2 were outdoors. Our meals were huge , which is wonderful to fuel up for Kohechi trek. Only downside was we had an encounter during the night as a centipede came into the sleeping room and bit one of my friend in 2 separate spots.

The only good thing: the view over the valley
The house and furnishings are in very poor condition, with worn-out armchairs and floors. Unfriendly reception. No soap. The onsen has a beautiful view, but is also poorly maintained. The food is fresh and the service is friendly. Overall, not recommended!

Disappointing
Not having meals included was a bit of a challenge, also because the only restaurant opposite didn't appear to be open and the person receiving me was unable to understand me or communicate with me, despite trying in my best Japanese. The worst thing however, was other guests smoking in the area adjacent to my room, with acrid smoke getting into the quarters, requiring me to sleep with a mask on to be able to breathe. It was awful.

There is a guesthouse with three onsen. We liked the one on the top with an fantastical view. It's nice to wear the traditional clothes (yukatan). Food was great (hot pot).

Delicious meals and open-air onsen
This was the perfect stay after the third day of hiking the Kohechi route! Even though it is a little off the trail, the delicious meals, friendly reception and opportunity to soak in their roof-top onsen made it so worth it! Also brings you a bit closer to the grocery store to stock up on snacks for on the way.

We loved the onsen on the rooftop. It was our favorite onsen experience and it was beautiful and amazing. Thank you for the thick and colorful robes, the gorgeous view, and the delicious meals. The only difficulty was that some people were smoking indoors and the smoke became a bit heavy.

Fabulous balcony Onsen with a river view
This guesthouse had beautiful private Onsen set on the balcony with river views. Meals were an absolute feast with wild game, mushrooms and vegetables cooked on the table in a delicious miso broth accompanied by other delicious dishes and river fish. Our host was extremely helpful as we had very heavy rainfall overnight which had potentially disrupted our travel plans. Our host offered to help with alternative travel options, luckily everything went to plan and we had a great trek. Her assistance and concern was greatly appreciated, thank you.

お風呂が残念過ぎ
案内された3つのお風呂の中で、私が入浴したお風呂場では洗い場に鏡が無く、その上お湯、水の表示のない蛇口が2ｍほど離れて 2つあるだけ、まして2つの蛇口にはビニールホースが付いていて、更に困惑です。 洗い場の無いお風呂だったのかとヘンに納得することにしました。

お風呂が最高でした
最後の宿、雨のあとたどり着いたので、お風呂が楽しみでした。全部で3つあるお風呂、全部川の合流の目の前だし、山も見えるし、24時間入れるということで堪能しました。ご飯もものすごく美味しくて、ジビエも川魚も最高でした。朝ごはんも、早く出発したい人はおにぎり弁当に変更してくださって、融通が効くところも助かりました。

A beautiful onsen ryoken
The guest house and rooms have amazing views over the blue river and three onsen (2 outside and 1 inside) which are lovely after a long day trekking. Dinner was the best we had in Japan and it was very peaceful stay.

Friendliest staff ever
I stayed here for the second time, and couldn't recommend this place enough. I didn't have food because they can't accommodate vegan food, but other members in my party said this was a feast! The baths are amazing, and offer a beautiful view of the mountains and river. More importantly, though, is how friendly and helpful the staff was: the owner helped arrange for lugagge shuttle to Kyoto, where we were going within a couple of days; she was immensely helpful and trusting in a moment of logistic stress, and I will never forget her kindness!

Awesome place to stay
Great location, great outdoor baths, really great food and very generous serving sizes. I would love to stay here again. An amazing location and one of the best baths I've had in Japan. Even after hiking all day, the food serving sizes seemed massive and of high quality. I would seek this place out again and enjoyed the vibe and the views from this unique guesthouse in a jaw-dropping location.

Hot spring hotel with excellent scenery
This hotel has three hot springs available, and the outdoor hot spring, with its stunning view, left a strong impression on me. The supermarket is just a 10-minute walk away, and the hotel is not far from the Kohechi, making it a worthwhile choice. Be sure to ask the hotel staff for the Small Path stamp.

十津川温泉の源泉掛け流しは素晴らしくて、貸し切り風呂なので混雑具合は気になりましたが満喫させていただきました。お食事もイタドリのお浸し(煮物？)が珍しかったり、鹿のフライが出たり、美味しくて良かったです。快く朝食をお弁当に変更していただけたのも有り難かった。 ただ、民宿の息子？の接客が最悪。お食事担当の方がとても良かっただけに余計際立つ対応のひどさ。仮にも民宿なんだから、もっと何とかして欲しい。

The best location for relaxing
The guest house located in the beautiful onsen village, we can see the bridge and river from our room window. The onsen, the food and the service are all extraordinary! I hope we will come back in the future. The hike at the kumano kodo kohechi trail was not easy but the people along the way are best. Thank you for all of your hospitality!

Amazing natural Onsen during sunset!!
Amazing location at the cusp of two rivers meeting. The Onsen balcony faces the sunset so you get beautiful lighting through the rising vapour off the water! Magical!!

ボロいけど
小辺路のルートからは少し離れてはいますが徒歩圏内、期間限定運行の小辺路バスもすぐ近くの蕨尾口バス停に止まります。建物はかなり老朽化していますが、温泉はそれぞれが貸切で泉質も最高でした。食事も各種ジビエ料理が楽しめます。

Hot Onsen and an amazing view!
The Minshuku has 3 Onsen and both the Onsen and the room had an incredible view! The owners were very friendly and helpful and especially the dinner was amazing. Everything was very fresh and tasty and we were served a hot pot for the first time.

Disappointing
The private onsens with view over the river are great. Food is plenty and good, no vegetarian option or lunch packets available. Did not feel welcoming at all. Futons were uncomfortable, duvets thin and too short even for a 165cm tall person.

Lot of confusion at check-in. Someone came to show us our room, and told us to wait for him in our room until he is ready so that he can show us the place. Never came back, we waited about one hour in our room... then we tried to contact him with the phone, no answer, we went at the reception and rang the bell for service, never came back either... So the reception was very cold, which was contrasting with every other stay during Kumano Kudo... Baths were awesome.

お料理とても美味しかったです。ボリュームもありました。接客も丁寧でした。洗濯機も乾燥機も500円で利用できました。お布団は自分で敷く感じでした。お風呂も24時間入れて泉質も良かったです。ただ残念なのは防音です。トイレも洗面所も共同で24時間入浴もできる分、他のお客さんの音が気になります。疲れて爆睡していたら気にならないかもしれませんが、私は気になりました。音以外は文句はありません。ありがとうございました。

Superb place. (Crucial to know it's near Warabio bus stop, as not on maps) Comfortable room. Several in-house ofuro-onsens on different floors and with outdoor baths. The baths are not divided into male and female, but designed to be used privately - with a sign saying occupied hung on changing room door. Views of the Totsukawa's lake and mountains. Dinner and breakfast truly excellent and very generous; the cooking staff engaging and enthusiastic. Exceptional value. There's a small supermarket over the bridge in Totusukawa for lunch supplies.

A Handy Location
This place is within walking distance to bus stops/depot, shops and the trailhead. Very helpful host that aim to please and meet the needs of guest. A safe and quiet premises despite being on a main road, clean with modern mod cons. The food is delicious with generous servings. This place boasts its’ own private Onsen for use.

The rooms are lovely with a view of the river that can't be beat. The onsen and outdoor shower can get hot in the middle of the day but is still refreshing. She gave me SO MUCH food! It was delicious. I appreciate her letting me check in early and the laughs we shared.

Again, a bit far from the track, you do some extra kilometres after a long day. So the next day. Small private Onsens in 3 different floors, with natural hot spring water. We arrived completely soaking, and the use newspaper and a dryer to dry our boots. 💖 the food was the best of all places.

Hotel in an Onsen town
This is the final night of Kohechi. We did not include food in our reservation here because this town has restaurants and convenience stores available. It was a nice accommodation and the onsen is private and overlooks the river. You can walk here from the Kohechi trail, no need to call for pickup or take a bus.

Great view of the river
The location is easy to find and has a fantastic view of the river. The onsen are all private, which was great for me and my partner to be able to onsen together outdoors with a river view. The rooms are on the smaller side, but it's not an issue. The check-in process was a bit odd, as there was no one at the front desk when we arrived. We looked around and eventually someone helped us, sort of. Just gave us a key and told us which room, but didn't show us where anything was located. There are two dining rooms, the one for foreigners (I think?) is the smaller room by the staircase. The larger dining room was off limits for us.

小辺路踏破の旅（3日目宿泊先）
十津川温泉の宿泊先。部屋にテレビはないが、部屋や温泉からの景色が絶景で感動しました。料理も豪華で美味しい。十津川温泉に泊まることがあれば、また利用したい。

The minshuku is situated along a main road in the area and some rooms facing it are very noisy with a lot of traffic even at night. The room was just large enough to spread 2 futons and some small luggage and the bedding of very dubious cleanliness. Meeting such unsmiling and unhelpful reception staff is a rare occurrence in Japan. The meals are quite tasty and plentiful and the rotenburo was very good after a long walk.

Onsen stay on Kohechi
Great room with view. Opportunity for private bath was great. Meals were excellent and appreciated the special chair to be a bit off the floor. The young man who met us when we arrived was not very warm but we realized later he was also the cook. Much better cook that at reception. Found washing machine in building on our own and much appreciated.

The best onsen ever
A little more like a hotel than a guest house, but very cosy and the woman who runs the place is so lovely. Our room had everything we needed and the food was delicious. The best part was the outdoor onsen which has amazing views of the river and is used privately. One of our favourite spots on the Kohechi.

Both indoor and outdoor baths
This is dated spa that provides access to 2 baths - the outdoor one with a great view of the lake and bridge. Dinner was excellent. There seems to have been a problem between Kumano Travel and this location, so when we arrived they were not expecting us. So we went shopping for the next day's lunch, and when we returned everything seemed to have been resolved. We were greatful for the spa to offer a shuttle service around the trail detour (for a fee)

小辺路コース3泊目でお世話になりました。 翌日、熊野本宮大社からのバスの時刻もあり、早朝に出発したため、急遽朝食をお弁当に変更していただきました。立地も登山口から比較的近くたすかりました。

The BEST onsens and BEST food on the Kumano Kodo
Even if you don't hike to Totsukawa Onsen(it's a tough hike compared to the Nakahechi, even compared to the Koguchi-Nachi stretch) you MUST stay here. The hotel is right on the Hongu river, and the views are utterly spectacular. Pair this with the private onsen's(three of them) two of which are outdoors, and the third has a window to enjoy the view as you soak your weary legs from the Kohechi trail. One onsen is so hot I could not even get in it. Uses the same water that the public onsen's down the street use, open 24/7. Dinner and breakfast are a LOT of food, with local deer and boar meat, river fish, and mustard green sushi wraps. Great after a long day of hiking, or to prepare for another. Staff speaks little to no English, but is accommodating and handy with google translate. The MAJOR downside of this place is the stairs. It's a 6 story building, with very steep stairs. After a week of hiking, particularly any of the Kohechi, getting around is a literal pain. Another downside is that it's pretty noisy, particularly if you're near the laundry or any of the Onsen's.

Our favorite onsen
We spent two nights here during the Kohechi route and rate it as our favorite onsen and nights of our trip to Japan. The place is very comfortable, the private baths are hot and have a beautiful view of the river. The meals are extremely generous (hot pot one night, sukiyaki the next, both including sashimi, tons of vegetables, a filet of meat, and lots of thinly sliced boar / venison) and so tasty. Very highly recommend.

Delicious food and hot springs with a view
It’s worth staying just for the fantastic breakfast and dinner. The quality and amount of food is fantastic. The three choices of onsen are great but the outdoor one would be my favourite. The room also had a great view. The two female staff were very kind and welcoming and helpful. I had an issue with the first room I was given and was able to change for the second night easily.

Great river-view open bath
The location of Taiyo-no-yu was between the route of Kohechi and the main street of Totsugawa Onsen. We took the bus from Nishinaka to the neighboring bus stop when we arrived, and walked about 10 minutes to the entrance to Hatenashi gathering. We had no idea where the reception was when we arrived, until we said sumimasen and a young man showed up and helped us to check in. The stairs were challenging for exhausted hikers. The room was spacious, but we had to make our own beds. The food was delicious. The 3rd-floor bath was spectacular with a full view of the river. The lady owner was kind and ready to help. They don’t have a stamp in the guesthouse, so you have to go to the Hiradani-so next door if you’re collecting the stamps.

Incredible stay with a beautiful room with a view, great onsen facilities and one of the best dinners served up on the trip! Very comfortable and was ready to go hiking again after soaking my muscles. Highly recommend staying here for such a great cultural experience. It is easy to walk to and find! There are convenience stores about 1km away and they have all you need to pack a lunch for the next day of walking and there are fridges available to store your food in.

小辺路三泊目で利用
このお宿は二度目の利用です。 以前利用した時にも感じましたが男性スタッフの方はこちらがニコニコした表情で話しかけてもニコリともせず本当に愛想良くないです。 私が接客業で部下を指導する立場だから余計にそう感じるのかもしれませんが… 女性のスタッフさんは皆さんニコニコして愛想も良く好印象ですので余計に残念です。 貸切で利用できる温泉、夕飯のボタン鍋も美味しく頂けて満足しています。 これからも定期的に利用させてもらいますね。

A basic stay but with great food
The room, even if it has a great view of the river, is a basic traditional room. Unfortunately, the host doesn't speak any English and is not of good help if you need something more than the standard information about the place. However, the place has 3 different onsen, mixed but private, that you can explore, with different water temperatures. The food for the dinner and breakfast was also great!

Our favorite ! Amazing onsen and service !
We were lucky to stay in this beautiful place. The view is absolutely stunning : from our bedroom but also from the private onsen. The food is delicious, all is home made. We had fabulous wild boar tempura and hot pot with deer - the owner hunted both of them ! The owner lady is so nice, she drove 1h to give me back the water bottle I forgot there in the morning. This is beyond kindness so once again I wanted to thank you for the warm hospitality that we will never forget. Thank again for everything

Amazing location and great onsen
This is a truly beautiful place to stay - not to be missed. Our room overlooked the river and had a place to sit looking out. There were two separate onsens which were outside, looking out onto the river, and could be used privately - which were a real treat. The food was excellent. I recommend anyone to stay here.

Good value for money
Cheapest stay with no meals so I didn't expect much to be honest. Wish the baths were cleaner though. Also I found a huge hunstman spider in my room. I know they are great for killing house pests but I have a phobia. I wish a staff could be on emergency call to come help. Thankfully a local guest took care of it for me. I can't imagine sleeping in the hallway if it weren't for him.

Wonderful experience and stayed!
My stay at Gyoja Minshuku Taiyo-no-Yu was an unforgettable experience. The ryokan is located in a beautiful mountain setting, surrounded by lush forests and offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The view from their outdoor onse is surreal! The traditional Japanese accommodation was comfortable and cozy, and the meals were exceptional, featuring locally-sourced ingredients and delicious traditional Japanese cuisine. The highlight, however, was the hot springs bath, which was absolutely divine and provided the perfect way to unwind after a long day of hiking on the Kohechi trail. The view was amaizing! What really made my stay special, however, was the warmth and hospitality of the owners and staff. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, offering valuable insights into the local area and making sure that my stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Overall, I would highly recommend Gyoja Minshuku Taiyo-no-Yu to anyone who is hiking the Kohechi trail or looking for a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Japanese mountains. It was a truly memorable experience that I will always cherish.

wonderful women owner, quiet, great outside bath
The kind owner gave me a room with windows looking at the lake instead of a room with no windows when I asked her at check in. I had meals for one dinner/breakfast and no meals the next day. The dinner was very impressive and so much food! A short walk to grocery store...Loved the outdoor onsen bath! Need to use google translate with wonderful owner as no english anywhere and no english sign outside the guesthouse.

Nice onsen guesthouse with a lake view
My stay at Taiyo-no-Yu was after a long 8.5 hour trek on the Kohechi trail of the Kumano Kodo. I was received by the owner's son (I'm guessing?) who seemed a little perplexed by my arrival, but showed me to my room with no issues. Unfortunately, Taiyo-no-Yu didn't provide me a lunch bento, so I prepared a trip to their grocery stores (which they have two luckily) only about 10 mins by foot. The owner was really lovely (doesn't speak English, FYI) and she was very accommodating when I said I needed to leave before breakfast (earliest breakfast time is 7am) in order to make time for my last day of hiking. She was so kind enough to prepare breakfast onigiri for me. The outdoor onsen was nice and my room was nice. I especially liked the pajama yukata provided :)

建物が古めのビルで、食事や風呂の際には上下のフロア移動があったのは微妙に不便ではありました。あと、風呂場にシャワーが見当たらなかったのも戸惑いました。 食事は豪華ではあったものの、ぼたん鍋のお肉はちょっと脂身の割合が大きかったかな。でも、鍋の出汁はとても美味しかったです。 乾燥機の利用料込みかどうかまでは訊かなかったけど、洗濯機 500円はちょっと高いと感じました。

A destination by itself
Room had a spectacular view. Outside baths had same incredible view. The location was easy to find and just a short distance off the trail. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. And the meals... if i could put 6 stars i would. We took the dinner (wild boar hot pot, botannabe), breakfast, and lunch lox for our last day on trail (onigiri with great sauce).

秘境の絶景温泉宿
高野山から小辺路歩きの４軒目でした。 到着してすぐのロビーがすでに絶景でしたが、露天風呂、お部屋からも同じ絶景が望めてとても贅沢な気分になりました。５Fの露天風呂に入りましたが少し狭めで２〜３人向けといった広さです。お湯の温度は私の好みの少し熱めでした。欲を言うとお風呂上がりに冷たいお水が欲しかったですが、各階の水道からは果無のお水が出ているそうなのでそれをいただきました。冷蔵庫が自由に使えたのでそれを冷やして飲むととてもおいしかったです。 お料理に関しては今回の旅で一番美味しかったです。他のお宿もそうでしたがボリュームたっぷりで満足できました。お弁当付きプランを選んでいませんでしたが、近くにお店がなかったのでお願いしたところ1人550円で作っていただき、とても助かりました。 熊野本宮まであと１日といったタイミングで温泉に入れたので頑張ろうという気持ちになれました！
