If you’re looking for an overnight hotel close to the station and restaurants, Altier hotel is perfect. It’s a 5 minute walk from the station and 3 minute walk from several restaurants. Its a good base to start your Kumano Kodo trek. A simple and clean hotel. The staff were helpful especially the lady preparing the breakfast.

My wife son and I chose Altier as a hotel to stay in the night before we set off on our Trek. We wanted to sleep in a western type hotel after our long commute from Scotland to Tanabe, 30hrs in total. Very happy with this hotel. Its about 5-10 mins from the Kumano Visitor Centre, train & bus station. Beds were comfy, room size was adequate and clean. Breakfast got us set for our first day trekking. Good Wifi! Would recommend : )

Excellent location and nice view
The hotel is about 5-10 mins walk from Kii-Tanabe station. We stayed here for one night. The room is comfortable and has a balcony with very nice view of the city and the ocean. The staff are very friendly and patience, we asked for the recommendation for a dinner place, the recommended local Izakaya was really good.

予定より早く到着してしまいましたが、チェックインすることができました。早朝のチェックアウトもスムーズにできてよかったです。室内は寝るには十分でした。ユニットバスの換気状況が悪いようでしたのでこちらが改善されるとなお良いかと思います！

This is a city hotel in Tanabe city, the location is easy access. The room is clean and with fair space, recommend to book with breakfast service which is nice to begin the first day long walk on Kumano Kodo. The nearby area is the biggest restaurant site in the city, many to choose before start the long walk.

Decent hotel
We stayed one night before we headed out to visit the 3 shrines along the Kumano Kodo trail. Due to a foot injury, we had to change our plans of hiking the trail and rented a car instead. The hotel had a fair number of parking spaces and we had no trouble parking our rental car. The hotel was very convenient (within 2 blocks) of the Kiitanabe train station and the rental car company. The town was very quiet at night and we had a hard time trying to find a place to eat. Tip: there's an eclectic small restaurant called Hangover near the train station that stayed open late till 11 pm and we had some of the best burgers. Breakfast was just okay for us at the hotel. Even though it was great that the hotel offered freshly made omelette and sunny side up eggs, we preferred eggs that were cooked well and not runny. The only thing we really didn't like was the super hard pillows. I opted to sleep without a pillow instead of risking a neck ache. Our corner room was on the 8th floor and had a little view of the ocean. Overall, a good place to stay for a night or 2.

Really convenient
A great hotel to stay at prior to the start of the walk. An easy walk from station. Had recommendations for dinner from reception staff to nearby casual restaurants. We had rooms on the top floor so had terrific outlooks to ocean and mountains. Breakfast was in the lobby and was delicious. Full early on with business people before heading to work. Enjoyed wandering Tanabe in the morning before catching the bus start of walk. Drop in not only to the Tourist Office near bus stop but also the new Kumano Kodo Reservation office- some nice souvenirs.

Hotel Altier locates within 10 minute walking distance to Kii Tanabe Visitor Center and close to foods alley in the area. We have a room with a view on the 8th floor and it is airy with the open spaces surrounding. The western bath suits us well. The hotel is small therefore they only serve continental breakfast with a good choice of West and East, more over there is a chef on site to cook your omelette to your desire. The receptionists are absolutely going out on their way to help us with our luggage problem. We want to say thanks again to the two staffs assisted us the morning we depart.

Quick, comfortable stay
Our group stayed just one night here on the way to Hong?. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The breakfast offered both western and Japanese options, which worked well for my group. One of our three rooms was a smoking room (we booked on the late side), so that wasn't perfect for the people who drew the short straw. My suggestion would be to make all rooms non-smoking, but I know that might not be possible. It was the only shortcoming.

Excellent hotel for Kumano Kodo hikers
We loved our penthouse room with its own bathroom and a view over the city and bay. We stayed at the hotel before and after walking Kumano Kodo trails. It's only 5 minutes walk straight down the street from the JR station and bus stop for the start of the Kumano Kodo. The staff were friendly and helpful, directing us to some great izakaya for dinner. The breakfast was way above average, with a chef cooking delicious eggs and there was a good coffee machine. Great value, too.

Pleasant stay
This is a lovely albeit simple hotel. It is easy to access from the station. My only issue with it and the booking process, is that we had to leave Kiitanabe very early to catch the bus to start our walk. As there was no accommodation in Takahara, we had to plan to walk to Chikatsuyu. We had been told that it is a 8-9 hour walk , thus the early start. For this reason, we were unable to make use of the breakfast which was included in our costing, as they only start serving at 7 am. We were already on the bus at that time. I think that if we had been better informed, we would have chosen a hotel without breakfast. As it turned out, it did not take us as long as advised to do the walk Eire. We were there in about 61/2 hours.

Room for 2 was small, maybe because we had to take the alternate room for 2 when the actualy twin/double rooms were fully taken. Well stocked like any business hotel should be. Location was good as it was less than 5 mins walk from the JR Kii-Tanabe and the nearby pub/bar area. Breakfast was surprisingly good and the staff were kind to provide more info on the surrounding, e.g. restaurants.

Our stay here was excellent. The room was had a very nice view over the city and the breakfast was nice. The reception desk was very welcoming and gave us great tips on where to eat. We had a great time.

Stopover hotel
This was a good place to stopover for the night before my forward trip to Hongu. The hotel was moderately clean and organized. The staff and kitchen service were very helpful and this was probably the best feature of this hotel. I would stay here again as a stopover.

Regular hotel
We overslept at Altier Hotel before starting the Kumano Kodo trail. They let us check in at night, so we could enjoy all our previous day in Kyoto. The staff was kind and friendly. The hotel facilities look quite outdated, but are alright. As there were no double rooms, we got two connected individual rooms. They were small they were clean and confortable. Breakfast was good and complete.

Great location to start on the Kumano Kodo Trail
Close to train and bus station. Good comfortable and clean rooms. Free espresso and tea at the lobby was great especially after a long journey to Tanabe. Breakfast is good. Reception staff very helpful. Thank you very much!

Altier Hotel
This is a pleasant hotel in a good location for the railway station and for buses. The staff are friendly and some of the frontdesk staff speak English. Our room was clean with a decent bathroom and balcony, it was a good size for a Japanese hotel. Excellent breakfast with a good variety.

Excellent hotel
Really nice room if a tad small, even by Japanese standards. Loved having a view. Helpful staff. Great Western breakfast - wonderful omlettes, breads and an espresso and cappuccino maker - really filling before a long day's hike!

Super hotel in Kii-Tanabe
We stayed 2 nights in Altier Hotel and had a really comfortable stay. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the train station. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and to top it all it had a great view over the city out to the sea. The Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, eggs, rice, pasties, tea\coffee etc. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are stopping over in Kii-Tanabe.

Good option
We overnighted here before beginning a trek on the Kumanokodo. The room was basic and the walls rather thin, but the reception staff were friendly and the location was good - 10 minutes to the beach.

Perfect location, not too far from the Train Station, the beach, or the best restaurants in Minato. The staff were very warm and welcoming and the breakfast was perfect. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a convenient and reasonably priced place to stay in Tanabe.

宿泊感想
ビジネスホテルとしては、立地最高です。翌日古道を目指すバス停まで程よい距離。夜の食事は外で名物料理を食べるのでホテルの安さは嬉しい。朝食は気配りメニューで熊野古道旅立ちにはちょうど良いと思います。但し、昼食弁当ないので、要注意。お昼は霧の里休憩所から近露方向にちょっと登って左側のとっても素敵なレストランがありますよ。絶対立ち寄って!!おすすめです。ロケーションばっちり。若いご夫婦？しっかり地元食材をアピール。名前忘れてしまった。ごめんなさい。とにかく坂道を登ると間もなく案内板。絶対おすすめ。
