熊野古道の一棟貸しの宿禮は本宮地区の地元のご家族が使っていた古民家を一棟貸しのお宿として再生させた日本の伝統的な風情を楽しめる和のお宿です。お部屋は畳のあるお部屋でゆったりとくつろげるソファのある居間もあります。お客様用にご利用頂けるキッチンもございます。別棟にシャワー室があります。ユネスコ世界遺産の熊野本宮大社と熊野古道巡礼路から歩いてすぐの丘の中腹にあり、地元の方々が住む地区にあります。昔懐かしい日本ながらの庭では、バーベキューや、お子様用のプールで水遊びなど家族で楽しめます。

お子様連れのご家族や気の置けない友人同士ゆっくりと落ち着いてくつろいで頂ける一棟貸しのお宿です。

Great stay for group in Hongu

We had the whole house to ourselves, group of 6 pax. Which was great as it was our final night after Kohechi hike and we can celebrate in private. Only small downside was the single shower room is outside main house, but few steps away.

Hongu Rei

The house was clean and at the good location to the trail head. The hostess spoke limit English. And the dry machine did not work.

Great

The guesthouse is beautiful and we had the entire house to ourselves. This made it very comfortable. They had a small washer/ dryer outside. This was so, so helpful! I gave the "bath" 3 stars. This is simply becasue the only shower is outside. With that said, the shower being outside worked well for our particualr situation. We had just hiked 16 miles in the rain and were soaking wet. Having the shower outside meant not tracking in dirt or water into the nice home. Otherwise, I would have liked a shower inside the home.

Excellent accommodation

The house was perfect, same as the reception. All was perfectly tidy and clean, the owner received us, gave all instructions about the house and also some useful information.

The house located on quite steep hill, make it little hard to get there after a long day of walking on the mountain. A part from that everything is great.

Overall an enjoyable place to finish off my Kumano Kodo hike. Rei did not offer any meal options, but Hongu was the most established towns of my 3 day hike so there were restaurants and grocery stores which sold fresh produce and meats. I opted to use the kitchen for dinner. Facilities wise, I am taking one star off mainly for the kitchen, which I think could be better cleaned/wiped down/maintained from time to time. The shower room is outside the house, which is a slight inconvenience as well, but it functioned very well with hot water, good pressure, good lighting and with also a portable hot air heater provided. There is a rather steep slope to reach the accommodation which it is a short one, just really pretty steep. Which made descending (after check out to go to the bus station) when the ground was wet feel unsafe. There is an alternative detour with a small path which has stairs, so look for that if required. Apart from that. Not sure if it is always the case, but we had the privacy of the entire whole ryokan to ourselves which was absolutely fantastic. My daughter was having fun around the whole inn. Was also able to use the seating area freely which was way more comfortable than hanging out on futons in a room. For my other accommodations during the Kumano Kodo walk, it was more common to simply have a room, with the host staying in the ryokan/house, often with other hikers in other rooms. So space would be more constained. Our host stayed in the building right beside and was easily contactable if required. Friendly during check in and spoke simple English, sufficient to give advice on where to settle dinner or get groceries, and explain the facilities of the inn. There is also a booklet provided with quite a bit of information on the amenities in Hongu town as well.

Rei kumano kodo

A comfortable traditional home that suited our group of four well. We appreciated having the owner next door so she could help us to work the shower and to find equipment in the kitchen.

A complete well equipped house

We were surprised to have an entire house to ourselves. The kitchen is very well equipped and we enjoyed the space and the privacy. The owner is very friendly and helpful and there is a folder with a lot of suggestions concerning supermarkets and restaurants. A very nice place to spend multiple days.

Enormous, comfortable space!

Very welcoming into a lovely home, with a full kitchen, shower and laundry outside. We really enjoyed our time here after 3 days of hiking on the Kumano Kodo.

Lovely location!

It’s a beautiful , well-maintained old house running by a busy lady. At night we found a gigantic spider crawling slowly alongside the wall, she came and help us finished it effectively. Thanks for that! The location is close to Hongu Taisha bus stop, just need to note that there is a slope to climb. It could be a little challenging when carrying a big suitcase.And the shower is outside, not very convenient, but it’s well cleaned. And the tatami area , the futon they provided are all clean. It feels cozy. Unfortunatly the restaurants around were almost closed at night, we didn’t have many dinner choices.however the nearest meat shop provides some veges and fruit, which was good. Overall we had a good time there, those little problems didn’t bother us much.and I’m thankful to house keepers’s kindness for letting us late checked out!

A solitary place

Rei Kumano Kodo Rental House is located UPHILL but still accessible on foot. It is also near a bus stop, so that was convenient. I had the whole house to myself, which was plenty of room. The shower was outside and the water heater had to be turned on before the water warmed up. I arrived early and the host wasn't there. I wasn't sure what to do, but the house was unlocked and I entered. Soon after, the host arrived and she was very friendly, understanding and accomodating. The washer and dryer were also very convenient. The only drawback was the missing meals, but informtation on eating establishments were provided.

Great house to stay in

Not too far from “centre” of Hongu, close walk to shop also. Clean and warm- heating works well. Host came as I arrived to show me around. Hot water shower is outside (attached to house) but is clean and well enclosed and with good water pressure. Only thing to consider is no hot water inside the house which is just slightly annoying. Would stay again happily.

Wonderful accommodation in a very convenient location in Hongu. It's a bit up a hill, but that's no issue. It's quaint, clean, large and well equipped. We wanted to stay longer! Good place to visit the Hongu Shrine, and could be a good base for many Kumano Kodo day walks as it's close to the Hongu transport hub from where buses go in all directions.

It was a nice and comfortable place to stay. The shower is outside, but it does not really bother me. The house is clean and tidy. They provide us with ready-to-cook meals, snacks and drinks with reasonable price, if we are too tired to go to the grocery store. The location is very convenient, close to the grocery store, bakery, and restaurants.

Great Stay in the Hongu Area

We stayed here after visiting Kumano Hongu Taisha. It was relatively easy to find, located in a more suburban area uphill. Easy walking distance from the Kumano Kodo trails, the shrine, and local grocery stores. The host was very sweet and patient with us as we didn't speak much Japanese. We were able to cook katsudon in the kitchen for dinner and were very comfortable in this private home! The only issue we had was there was no hot water, so we decided not to shower since we visited during winter.

One improvement is that the ceiling light can not be switched off. Difficult to sleep. Overall better than pictures.
