Convenience and support
Minpaku Kodo was easy to find and check in. The opportunity to purchase small meals and snacks was super convenient in case hikers arrive late or prefer not to go out. Our guest room was simple and comfortable, all we needed for the night stay. Other hikers were right next store, so it was a little loud, but they were both friendly and respectful, not staying up too late. The atmosphere was more of a hostel-style stay in general, and worked just great.

A cozy Japanese-style house
In the residential area, the house are small in size but sufficient for daily use. The interior decorations are cute and cozy. The place is overall very clean. There are various frozen foods in the refrigerator, each labeled with a different price. Since there are no restaurants nearby, we used the frozen foods to prepare dinner, which was quite convenient.

House close to the Nachi waterfalls
It is close to the final of the treck. There is nothing to see close to the house and we had a bit of trouble because we wanted to buy dinner but everything was closed. Luckily the owner had different types of instant and frozen food that we were able to buy from her. She even told us if we needed to go to the supermarket, that she could drive us, but we decided not to because with what was in the house was enough for us (be careful to bring cash!).

Loved staying here. Two stops on the bus after reaching the shrine , after a long days walking. Owner was there to greet us. And took us to the local supermarket to get some supplies for dinner and breakfast. Cooking facilities basic and practical. Very clean and well maintained property. Air conditioning and heating in all rooms. Would recommend for the budget traveller. Small longe room to rest in. Lovely setting near a mountain stream.

The owner is nice. The accommodation is a little bit far from the Nachi waterfall and shrines, however the bus stop is about 5 minute far from the accomodation. This was the only accomodation for reasonable price on this area.

Nice place to finish the walk
Nice little place to finish the walk and recover. Not many food options available but you can purchase some noodles and drinks there. Close location to the bus station which is handy at the end of the walk and when not up to walking much the following day.

Fair at best
The guesthouse is genrally nice. Our rooms were upstairs and far from the bathroom and shower/ bath. This made it a little invonvenient. Our rooms were 4 walls and a matt to sleep on. There was no furniture whatsoever. Literally 4 walls and a matt. This was not a good setup.

Very convenient location for those finishing the hike in Nachi. If taking a bus from Nachisan, it's just down the slope in a residential area by the Ninosebashi bus stop. The Daimonzaka trailhead is also not far away for those starting the hike from there. Very few to no options for food in this area. They have instant noodles for sale in their living room, or plan to buy your own food and bring it along.

Excellent guest house
Guest house was super comfortable and clean - and owner super helpful. Great location - can walk to from the shrine and waterfall. No meal provided but some items available and a full fridge. Recommend. Quiet and comfortable

Pretty good location - choose bedroom carefully
Host was willing to drive us to a grocery store (A-Coop Nachi Store was good) after 6pm. However, unlike the two upstairs rooms, the "extra" room I got was a somewhat small bunk bed off the kitchen with no inside lock. Be sure to ask for an upstairs room, and have a plan for food before you arrive. This is actually a great location to finish your Kumono Kodo walk right near the bus line, although it's in a residential neighborhood a bus ride away from any services. Walking from Koguchi I finished the hike with plenty of time to visit Nachi Falls and walk to the house in the early afternoon without needing a bus (an extra 30 minutes downhill). The kitchen light switch is hidden behind the china cabinet, and it would be very helpful to have more information in english for guests. There was only a Japanese phone number to ask questions or if there was a problem. The ramen and other snacks/drinks available for purchase were adequate.

good accomodation to finish the trip
I decided to spend the last night in Nachisan not to rush to catch the bus to Kii-Katsuura and enjoy the beautiful village of Nachi with its temples and waterfalls. It's a relaxing 20/30 minutes walk (downhill luckily) from Nachi that passes by one of the stamps. The lady who owns the place passed by me by car, and seeing my huge backpack understood that I was coming here and offered me a ride! She also offered to bring me to the city to buy food and put some in the house for sale. The house has three separate rooms with a shared bathroom, but I was alone that evening. It also has a fancy projector for a relaxing movie evening!

Close to bus stop
Great little place to stay after the hike. Very close to a bus stop. Just make sure you ring the bell on the bus after Daimonzaka, as our bus from Nachisan went sailing past the stop and we had to get off the next stop to come back. Also we realised after waiting and ringing the door bell for 10 minutes that the front door is actually open! The owner who lives next door ducked in later to ask if we needed to be taken to the supermarket but we had food. The fridge is stocked with drinks including beer and wine and there are snacks and dehydrated food if you need to purchase anything. Also a great washing machine with a dryer which was much needed as we were soaked, as was all our gear after walking in the rain all day. Just took some working out how to use. Lol. Would recommend as a great place to stay.

Second time staying here, recommend!
I stayed here previously, alone. This time I travelled with friends, and if I ever go back to Nachisan I will try to stay here again. There are no meals, but you can conveniently check-in at your leisure, and the owner will drive you to the supermarket if you need to buy supplies (she even went in and helped us with finding some of the stuff we were looking for). She also offered to drive us to a local onsen if we were in need of a soak after trekking. The location is near a bus stop, and a short walk from the entrance to Daimonzaka.

Homely and convenient stay near Nachi Falls
This was a great stay within walking distance of Nachi Falls after completing the Kumano Kodo Imperial Route. It was 30 min walk from Nachi Falls. The host welcomed us warmly. As we were not able to buy food for dinner when everything closed early, the host drove us to the grocery store for us to buy dinner. The room was simple but warm and comfortable with tatami mats. The blankets were soft and fuzzy and I slept like a rock. There were a shared kitchen and bathroom and laundry. Thanks for the nice stay.

Unexpected beauty
This accommodation was great. Quiet location and so much attention to detail. All quality bedding and pillows. The heated floor rug in the loungeroom was fabulous. All the added extras were noticed like food to purchase. All household and kitchen items were quality. Loved the opportunity to wash our. Clothes. The walk down from Nachi temple through the cedar forest was a real unexpected treat. A great way to finish our 6 day hike. I wish we had time to stay longer and explore the natural beauty around this accommodation. There is a lot to enjoy. Highly recommended.

The one star for meals is only because they were not provided, however, it was fantastic that the owner provided snacks and drinks that could be purchased. Furthermore, Niki the host was wonderful and very helpful on driving us to the supermarket. The accommodation itself was excellent.

Wonderful stay
We really enjoyed our stay in Minpaku Kodo. We arrived very late after a whole day of walking Ogumotori-goe from Koguchi to Nachisan, but the host greeted us warmly and had everything we needed to make us feel right at home. The kitchen facilities and available food and snacks for sale were really appreciated, as was the convenience of the location near the end of the Daimonzaka steps, so we didn’t need to worry about taking a bus after the hike. We were fortunate to have the entire house to ourselves that day (late December), which made the experience very special. It felt like we were truly living in the Japanese countryside, even if just for 1 day.

Convenient location near the true end of Kumano Kodo
Many hikers missed out on Daimonzaka, which has an awesome detailed stamp. This house is conveniently located right after the final destination. The accomodation is well-equipped with instant meals and snacks for purchase and the host offers to drive to town for a supermarket run too. Despite the tough climb and descent, most hikers who make it the whole route would arrive by lunch (ie ~5h), so it is not necessary to stay around Nachi if desired.

Most comfortable duvet!
Arrived slightly before check-in time but was glad to be able to enter, wash up and settle in. The host is pleasant and helpful. She gave me a ride to the supermarket to get dinner and I could heat the food up in the microwave provided in the kitchen. Best of all, the washing machine/dryer worked well (and is free). Towels, hairdryer, and toiletries are provided. There is also a fridge. The shared TV room has a mini combini stocked with snacks, alcohol, instant noodles, dehydrated soup, and even pasta. There are games and notebooks where you can read what other guests have penned. There are also Kumano Kodo guidebooks which would be very helpful for those starting their trek from Nachi. The tv room has a projector but it would be great if screencast was allowed as the shows are quite limited in variety. The duvet was so, so comfy. Thank you for a pleasant stay and for your hospitality!

Simple but no meals
Simple accommodation. 3 rooms in location and shared bathroom. Great view from the rear room on the top floor or at the end of the street. Host was welcoming. Food for sale if you need it or the host offered to take us to the local supermarket. Well equipped kitchen. Washing machine available. Bus was very convenient and close. We had bags to move the morning after and took a taxi to the train station at Nachi which was far easier than suitcases on a bus - very reasonably priced and very much on time....down to the minute.

Clean and affordable
Minpaku Kodo is a very nice guest house/hostel. It's a bit far from Kii-Katsuura and the neighborhood it's in has very little in the way of amenities. However, the host drove us into town so that we could buy dinner and other guests went to the onsens at the hotels there. The host's service is top notch.

Quiet Night Near Nachi Taisha
This stay is pretty close to Nachi falls - you can either walk (25 minutes) or a 5 minute bus ride. The house is in a quiet residential area. My room was comfortable and I met some other nice pilgrims who were also staying that night. The house is comfortable - some people cooked and we all ate dinner together. There are no restaurants or stores around but the host was kind enough to drive us to a nearby supermarket in the early evening. The house is a 4 minute walk away from a bus stop and it was an easy ride into Nachikatsuura the next morning. This is a good spot if you want to return to Nachifalls or Nachi Taisha very quickly.

This place is not close to the Nachi trail head and was difficult to find. There was no instruction given as to how to get to the guest house. We ended up walking another 35 minutes (steep downhills) to the house. It was disappointing after a long and tough day(information for future hikers: bus 31 had one stop closer to the house). The owner was not there when we arrived. We were actually received by another hiker. No meals were provided. There were some instant noodles and snacks for purchase. The owner did offer to drive us to the grocery store at 6pm. We (three) shared the house with two other hikers. Three of us were put in one room. It was quite crowded.

Basic, but friendly.
Definitely the most basic of accomodation for the trip. Nobody to greet you upon arrival. Keys and a little note are left for guests to sort themselves out. No towels provided and snack options were VERY limited. The owner arrived about 6pm and offered to drive guests to the local grocery store, which was essential, as there are no/very limited options for local food & drink. Sort of a disappointing way to end the trip.

Very Homey
This was a great place to spend my last night after a long hike. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I met a few other travellers, and we spent the afternoon chatting about our experiences, and then made dinner together. The owner kindly drove us to the grocery store. It was very chill, I loved staying here as a solo hiker.

Very easily accessible from the bus stop, the rooms are comfortable, and while no meals are provided, the host can drive you to the supermarket where there's all manner of food available. The kitchen is also available for use, but I opted to just get a simple bento from the supermarket.

We weren’t sure what to expect and/or if we could get a ride to get groceries so the uncertainty levels were high. We had a great experience when a lady working at the temple gave us a ride to the Lawson store to get food and dropped us at the house. We weren’t expecting other people at the house but that was fine. The host did offer us a ride to get food. The stairs were difficult to navigate at night time toiletries.

August 2024, be aware of the location
Very friendly owner. The room was very basic and beware there is a room next to,you and you can hear everything. The water out of the shower was boling so also be aware of that or you get burned. A warning would have been nice. There are no shops or restaurants nearby. But…the very friendly owner took us to,the supermarket by car which was great. Busstop only 3 minutes walk which is great

Minpaku Kodo é una sistemazione comoda e pulita, dotata di aria condizionata (molto utile, date le temperature bollenti che possono verificarsi d’estate). A breve distanza (meno di 5 minuti a piedi) é localizzata la fermata dell’autobus per Kii Katsuura. Non viene fornita la cena né la colazione ma la proprietaria ci ha gentilmente accompagnato in macchina a fare la spesa. Bisogna tenere in conto che per raggiungerla a piedi da Nachisan é necessario camminare altri 40 minuti circa (per fortuna in discesa).

Convenient and nice place to stay
This guesthouse was excellent. It had rained for the entire day of the trek so it was nice to get to a warm guesthouse. It was an easy bus ride from the end of the hike and I only had to walk a block or so. the guesthouse facilities were great and the host offered to drive me to a supermarket to buy food for dinner and breakfast, which I appreciated.

Minpaku Kodoさんに宿泊
お宿の少ない中、こんなに居心地良く過ごせるのはありがたかったです。一人で利用させていただいたので、他に利用者がいれば違う場合もあると思います。 しかし宿自体はとても清潔で洗濯・乾燥機の設備もドライヤーも良いものを置いていてくれて、とても満足のいく宿でした。 お風呂が小さめだったので大柄な人にはきついかもしれませんので敢えて★を減らしました。それだけです。 ここで貸し切り連泊できたら天国かも。わかりにくい立地かもと思いましたが大門坂を使いたい人には最高です。大門坂を下りてすぐでした。 また宿主も非常に気持ちの良い方で楽しい時間を過ごさせていただきました。また利用したいです。

Nicky lovely, and supermarket run was very handy
Its a 40-minute walk down hill from the END of the Kumano (or bus ride I think) which adds at the end to the day! They were bunk beds, but Nicky let us use the washing machine which was fantastic. She took us in tot get some food which was exactly what we wanted. She is lovely.

Basic shared guesthouse - does what you need but no frills
Basic shared guesthouse (3 rooms each sleeping 2) all sharing the same toilet, shower, kitchen. We had the "Western room" which turned out to be bunkbeds, so not the most comfortable, but it did what we needed. Easy self-check-in. The owner popped in in the evening and was very friendly. Easy to walk down from Kumano Nacho Taisha to this accommodation and there's a bus stop very nearby to get down to the train station and beyond.

I gave five stars for meals, because although this hostel does not serve food, the owner knows food options in the area are limited and so provides low cost convenience food for purchase on site, as well as willingness to drive guests to market. Perfect location near beginning of Daimonzaka trail. Great affordable small hostel.

Nice last spot
This was a nice last stop on the way out. It was overall pretty regular, but since it's someone's house that's what you would expect. you need to get a little creative with food since there isn't much nearby, but the host is very helpful and offered to drive us somewhere. I ended up just eating snacks she had at the house but the offer was appreciated.

Clean and Nice
This was a house, not a hotel. There was no one to greet us which was a little confusing. We found a note and key inside and were able to shower and get sorted. There was no onsen which was sad after a really long day walking. We had to catch the bus to get to this place, but this was actually really easy and not a big deal. The owner was lovely and took us to the supermarket to get supplies and was super friendly and helpful. The futons were lovely and there were proper pillows not rice pillows. So lots of pros and cons of staying here.

Relaxing end after hiking the Kumano kodo
We spent our last night after hiking here and we were super tired! We got to meet the host briefly which was nice but otherwise was self service. We ate some instant noodles from the snack bar available (for a small payment). Nice place to rest after hiking and it was only a short walk from Nashi Taisha.

A great host and common areas.
It's a bit further down from Nachi Taisha than the buses, but I'd consider staying here vs going to Nachi city or Shingu if you're rounding out. The host lives on the other side of the duplex. Basic snacks and simple food(instant noodles and the like) and drinks(alcoholic and non) for purchase on the honor system. She is very kind and speaks basic English, and will drive you to the grocery store in Nachi city. The kitchen is great, so if you're up for it whip up a fancy meal. If nothing else, you can get a to go bento from the grocery deli. The common area of this house is amazing-there is a projector with internet access for streaming so you can watch movies, listen to music, etc. I had the place to myself, but it could be a bit crowded with 8-12 people or so. Toilet is nice but single, and bath area is small but functional. Free laundry, which you probably need after the hike up to Nachi.

basic, but everything we needed
There's a bus stop a couple minutes away, so it was easy to get to Kii-Katsuura in the morning (we could have also taken the bus there from the falls). Short walk to Daimon-zaka (maybe 15-20 minutes) and the falls are within walking distance (~45 minutes away on foot, though you could also take the bus). Room and shared bathroom were basic but comfortable. As advertised, there are no meals, but there are snacks and instant foods available for purchase (we were glad that we brought our camping food from home for this night). The owner offered to take us to the grocery store or hot springs when we checked in, but after the long trek from Koguchi, we just wanted to get to bed as soon as possible. This small house felt a bit like a shared airbnb, since the owner was not present aside from check-in. But it had everything we needed and it was nice being close to the falls.

Quiet sleep
We never met the hosts, but we didn't need to either. We took the bus to Nachi to find dinner. It was a quiet ( in a good way) place to stay. We took a taxi back here after eating dinner in Nachi.

So grateful for everyone at this location. The space where we stayed was really comfortable and the locals were incredibly helpful. We finished our hike late at night, and one of the locals who saw that we were lost offered to help us. I'll never forget their kindness.

This was a private house (own living room, kitchen, shared toilet & bath) and the owner lived in the house next door. It was a 10 min bus ride from the temples and another 5 min walk to the house. No meals were available, however the owner drove us to a local supermarket where we could buy everything we needed for dinner & breakfast. Since the house had a full kitchen, you had the option to cook if you wanted to. Snacks and beverages were available in the house and payment was made via the honor system.

Lovely traditional room with a communal area
The room was nice and comfortable however there were no meals provided and being vegan there was not a lot for me to buy at the guesthouse for dinner. The owner took others to the supermarket but I missed this opportunity. Great Short Stay
My boyfriend and I had a great short stay at Minpaku Kodo. We started the Kumano Kodo trail here and it was a convenient location to visit Nachi Taisha. We did not have any meals here but we did use the kitchen and refrigerator.

The location was accessible with a quick walk after alighting from the bus stop. The host was very helpful in driving me to the supermarket to get ingredients. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, which allowed me to cook myself dinner and clean up without any fuss. The room had a slight Disney theme to it, just enough to have some character without becoming intrusive. Overall it leans more towards an Airbnb sort of experience, which was new and interesting for me.

Nice house to stay in after Kumano Kodo
The facilities were very clean and comfortable (one of the best futons we slept on in Japan, very soft!). The owner was kind to offer to take us to the supermarket. We had to self check-in which was fine. The area is not very exciting, but there is a little department store.

It was a very adequate place to stay.
It was adequate. Not as nice as some places we had stayed. There was a bit of a language barrier with the host and we struggled to find the place. When searched on Google minpaku kodo takes you to a place in shingu which is very confusing.

One of only 2 options at Nachi
We were so glad this place was an option for booking because the only other place in town was fully booked! We were able to enjoy the entire home in an authentic Japanese suburb, just a short walk downhill from Kumano Nachi Taisha. There are very limited food options nearby, but the host offered to drive us to the grocery store if we desired. The home was clean and enjoyable, with snacks and beverages for sale.

There was no meals provided. But the host was able to drive me to the nearby supermarket so that I could buy what I needed. Did not use the bath facilities as the host drove the other house guests and myself to the nearby public onsen. Very nice location to finish the hike
A residential little village 20min walk from Nachi Falls. A little bit tricky to find it, but google maps will guide you well. No meals are offered a part from instant food available. As a vegetarian non japanese speaker, it was difficult to know if the instant food were veggie or not. House and room are very comfortable. Very nice host.

Did the job
Good points: the owner was kind, the room was large and clean, and there is an excellent onsen above a food market 5 mins walk down the road. On the downside, no food is offered besides instant noodles, which is not what I fancied after a long hike. Perhaps due to communication difficulties I could not find any restaurant nearby, so ended up taking the bus to Shingu and a taxi back. It was a perfectly decent place, but with hindsight I would have been better off staying in Shingu.
