湯の峰温泉 つぼ湯近くのこじんまりした旅館
湯の峰温泉「つぼ湯」近くのこじんまりした旅館です。2000年に改装。窓からは、つぼ湯、湯筒といった湯の峰温泉の風情をお楽しみいただけます。
湯の峰温泉を流れる湯の谷のせせらぎと温泉街をゆく人々の下駄の音、つぼ湯に出入りする人の楽しげな声が静かすぎる空間に心地よく響きます。
露天風呂は貸切となっており、さらに夜間いつでも利用できるので、旅の温泉宿を何倍も楽しめるでしょう。
大規模旅館ではありませんが、ゆっくりとおくつろぎいただけます。

the host was very friendly; I arrived a little earlier than the checkin time and was extremely grateful to get in and enjoy the hot spring in the Ryokan. There was a beautiful outdoor hot spring for the Ryokan; I would definitely come back for the excellent hot spring here! The room is clean. Both dinner and breakfast were very tasty.

Beautiful ryokan

This was the best accommodation on my entire Nakahechi trip. The owners' hospitality upon arrival was incredible, as was the room and the outdoor onsen. Dinner and breakfast were the best I had in all of Japan. I was miraculously able to book close to my arrival date, but I understand that several months' notice is required, which makes sense considering my wonderful experience. The small town is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Accessible by bus; arrive at the stop well in advance as it gets quite crowded. Thank you so much for everything.

If I could rate the baths 10/5, I would
Taking a bath in the private outdoor onsen here was one of the highlights of my trip! It is open all night, so I even came back a second time after waking in the middle of the night. You just flip the sign from 'open' to 'closed' while you are in the bath and lock the door behind you, then flip it back when you're done. The location is really great too (though Yunomine is small so all the locations are really great)! It's right next to the Tsubo-yu bath, so even if you do not manage to get a time to use Tsubo-yu, the same water likely flows through Yoshinoya. Meal was excellent, great spread and variety of dishes, great umeshu. Staff were very nice and friendly. The only downside here is this is an old ryokan, and like many old ryokans, in the past used to allow smoking. They have good ventilation now and there is always incense burning in the hallways, but you can still smell it a little. If you're sensitive to cigarette smoke, you may want to reconsider staying here. Personally it was worth it to me for that gorgeous bath!

Special Ryokan in Yunomine
The room and location were outstanding, with a private outside onsen that was sitting peacefully in the middle of town. Stayed in the 8 tatami mat room (corner location). Open the sliding windows and watch the town while drinking tea or beer! The food was exceptional in flavor and preparation. The loving intent was shown throughout. I still think of the moist fish and crispy skin two weeks later! And the thick slices of shashimi! Our favorite food of the trip. Great spot for a rest day on our 6 day journey. Rest days are the best days!

The Private Rotenburu Onsen cannot be beat!
I have had the pleasure of staying in Yoshinoya Ryokan 3 times in the past, including last month. The location in Yunomine is perfect, overlooking the historic Tsuboyu onsen. The Ryokan staff and owners are so friendly and wonderful. Warmly welcomed me after a long hiking day. The food served was delicious, and their private rotenburu onsen is just perfect for my sore muscles. Overall, easy 5 star all across the board.

We were very excited to stay at a ryokan after completing two days along the Kumano Kodo. The baths were very welcome, and the outdoor private bath was so great we had to go multiple times! As expected, both meals were wonderfully prepared and were the best we had in Japan. The service was a bit different than prior accommodation, generally being more invisible and muted. One room for our group of 4 was quite comfortable, but the second room (upstairs, room 7?) had a large area of mould (probably due to the high humidity in the town). Overall, a positive experience!

Lovely ryokan experience
This ryokan is immediately in front of you as you descend onto the main street in Yunumine Onsen. The room was traditional Japanese with tatami mats, and the beds comfortable. The outdoor onsen was a wonderful experience, highly recommend. Very good Japanese food, more than enough to eat, and lovely hosts keen to help in any way.

Our favorite stay in Kumano Kodo
Everything was perfect and we cannot recommend highly enough! The private outdoor onsen is amazing, probably the best onsen we’ve ever been to. Location was unbeatable, right in the middle of one of the most beautiful villages in Japan. We even saw snow monkeys less than 200m away from the ryokan. Meals were a highlight, everything was delicious. Room was spacious, clean and cozy, and the ensuite toilet very convenient. We went in December, so after a full day’s walk in the cold outside, we really appreciated that the room in Yoshinoya had a powerful AC that quickly made it very warm, as we needed. We felt cold in most of our other accommodations on the trail. And if that was not enough, the host was incredibly kind and patient, and spent a lot of time assisting us with resolving an issue related to our delayed luggage from the airline, together with the Kumano Travel staff, who were also extremely nice and helpful.

Outstanding private outdoor onsen and fantastic meal!
Incredible onsen town and a perfect place to rest after hiking for 3 days. The host couple were so kind and warm. They taught us how to eat shabu shabu and spoiled us with a very GENEROUS meal. Everything was delicious and the private outdoor onsen was just incredible!

Wonderful place to stay
Wonderful place with a private hot spring that's open 24/7 for guests. We definitely appreciated being able to use it, as my wife and I have tattoos. The rooms are big, and the public bathroom was nice and clean. Definitely a wonderful place to stay.

Wonderful stay at at Yoshinoya Ryokan
The couple who run this ryokan are very welcoming, caring and professional hosts. My room was well appointed with a beautiful outlook. The dinner & breakfast was delicious, traditional Japanese style served in a private space. The on-site private onsen was relaxing & beautifully appointed. Highly recommend.

Perfect location.
Wonderful place to stay- very welcoming and comfortable, with delicious food. Right next to the trail. Beautiful private onsen, as well as 3 steps from the famous Tsuboyu onsen, the public onsen, and the cooking onsen, (and the bus stop)! We enjoyed our time here.

This was my favorite place in our trip . Set in this beautiful village with a private outdoor onsen in a garden with goldfish pond and flowers . The breakfast and dinner were so delicious . Dinner was one of my top ten travel meals ! Incredible .

Unmatched hospitality!
We tried both the onsite onsen and the UNESCO onsen next door and I have to say that the Ryokan's onsen was much more relaxing and pleasant, they did a great job building a little private oasis for the guests, the photos on the website don't do it justice. You can sit there in the evening and stargaze! We also have to say that the hosts were supremely gracious and accommodating to us; we had to catch a very early bus to make it to a specific trailhead which normally would have meant that we wouldn't make breakfast but our hosts made us a special DELICIOUS breakfast for us super early. I cannot thank them enough for this. Also as someone who normally doesn't eat much fish, the fish they served for breakfast surprised me beyond measure with its deliciousness. The rooms were clean and comfortable and warm :-)

Picturesque onsen and ryokan
This ryokan has an incredible private onsen. If you can book it, get this one. The onsen is private to the ryokan and each guest can use it for 30 minutes for their personal use. It is located right outside the entrance and next to the natural hot spring streak that feeds that village. We soaked in the healing water under a bright red maple tree and it was perfect. The ryokan is at the end of the little street that makes up the village, and our room had a lovely view of the stream and bridges of the village. The meal is excellent and served in a dinning room with partitions between guests. The staff was very kind and hospitable, and the rooms clean and comfy. Would definitely come back!

Brilliant ending of our trip
When we came to Yunomine Onsen we all were a little bit exhausted - even if we had cut the walking distance of the last day down to about 17 kilometers. Yoshinoya Ryokan was a bless. We were sitting and relaxing in the hot water and were happy. The food was really great, staff was very helpful. And the busstop only few minutes awy. We enjoyed our stay here so much.

Great experience
A Japanese ryokan that offers an opportunity ity to experience traditional Japanese culture. Had a great time. The onsen baths are relaxing after a long days hike and rejuvenating. The meals are excellent and offered in a traditional manner. Staff are extremely friendly and polite.

We had a great stay here! We arrived after a long hike in the rain, and they were very accommodating, helping us handle our wet gear and getting settled. The meals were excellent and very filling - Japanese style with floor tables. The place has an outdoor private onsen with an adjacent coy pond as well as an indoor bath with onsen. The staff was very helpful regarding bus schedules for our next day.

The best place I've stayed in all japan
Everything about it was perfect: it's well located, they have common bath for every guest, plus a private bath we could use at our discretion. The gentleman on the reception was very nice and helpful, he took care of our wet shoes even without us asking him. The dinner and the breakfast were high quality and quantity. The room was confortable too.

Private onsen and excellent food
We felt so lucky to have a sweet private onsen available. It was the only onsen my husband and I have been able to visit together. We really enjoyed it even though it was pouring rain. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Such fresh sashimi, my husband who is not always adventurous ate it all.

Outdoor private bath under the stars
Everything here was exceptional. The service, the food, the baths, the rooms. The owners of the guest house showed me around as soon as I got there and provided me all the information I needed for a great stay. I decided to take advantage of the outdoor private bath because what a unique experience. It was a lovely appointed shower and bathing area that had views of the nighttime sky. I could have sat in there all night. They provided me with options for breakfast time which allowed me to catch the bus I needed to start the next days hike. Both the dinner and breakfast were delicious, they even use the local waters for the hot pot and the boiled egg. The location is in a very charming onsen town that is extremely walkable.

Perfect ryokan right beside Tsuboyu
We have no choice but to give this ryokan a perfect rating. It has everything, and at a very convenient location. It is along the main road, almost beside the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tsuboyu onsen, and a short walk to the bus stop. Food is great, rooms and facilities are outstanding. You will not regret staying here.

料理は、どれも美味しくて、品数も多く大満足でした。特に朝のお粥は、お米の味だけで、とても美味しかった。翌日熊野古道を歩く事を伝えたら、おにぎりが作れるように用意してくれました。コーヒーが無かったのが、少し残念でした。

Amazing ryokan experience
We absolutely loved this ryokan. We hiked part of the Kumano Kodo and this hotel was located right next to where you end the trail. The location was great. The man who runs it was so nice and so helpful to our group. We had absolutely everything we needed and it was incredibly clean and well taken care of. The private onsen was great! We had a few members of our group with food allergies and the staff worked very hard to make sure our needs were met. We loved our experience here and would definitely stay here again.

Hot Spring Treat!
A fantastic place to stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Food was fantastic. All the places I stayed at on my Kumano trip were very good and this place was right up there. Something that set this place apart was the private outside hot spring bath. So beautiful and relaxing to spend some time at the end of the day in this outside yet very private bath. Thoroughly recommended!

Highly Recomended!
Wonderful stay, couldn't have asked for more! Incredbly nice host, went out of his way to drive me to my next stop; really friendly and helpful! The room is great, with views to the small village, and with the sound of running water lullabying the guests into a peaceful slumber. The hot springs are a treat, great to relax after a long day of walking. To top it all off, the meals were absolutely delicious. Highly reccomended!

Favorite part of our trip to Japan!
Our stay at the Yoshinoya Ryokan was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Japan! After a long 2-day hike from Takijiri (spending the night in Chikatsuyu), it was very welcome to wash off and then soak in the private onsen. We absolutely loved the delicious multi-course meal consisting of a wide variety of traditional Japanese food. The tatami mat room was very comfortable and had a beautiful view of the river. We would love to stay here again!

Pleasant ryokan in Yunomine Onsen
A traditional ryokan experience with tatami mats and futons in the room; there were padded liners to make it more comfortable. Check in was straight forward, went straight to the private couples onsen and had a good soak - a real highlight! Dinner served in a dining room at low tables. A traditional multi-course affair with sashimi, pickles, dried fish, tempura and the tofu course which was excellent. The tempura was disappointing and while there were some complicated elements I thought it lacked a little love. Breakfast was traditional Japanese fare with no complaints. Comfortable night in the room and an early departure.

Shinoya Ryokan Yunomine Onsen
Exceptional hosts - lovely couple not English speaking but this did not hinder our stay or communications. The setting is lovely and tranquil & while building looks large, one floor in dining rooms , lower area is basement onsen. There is a private garden onsen & both onsens were heavenly. Only 9 guest rooms total.The meals (both dinner and breakfast) were feasts and the attention to detail notable. If catching bus to Ukegawa to walk to Koguchi ask host to confirm times ( as we misunderstood timetable) & request earlier breakfast, be packed and ready to leave early. You need to sort out lunch if hiking the next day to Koguchi as no villages or tea shops on the way. And Nothing open at Yunomine before the bus comes. We did note there were places at bus stop where yo get off at Ukegawa to buy a range of food and snacks and you could have a breakfast at Ukegawa before starting very steep upward section. While Yunomine Onsen is a tiny village it would be easy spend 2 days with short walks and bus trips to nearby villages such as Watarase Onsen and Kawayu Onsen.

Private onsen was the best after my day's walking
I was pleasantly surprised by the onsets inside and outside all for me, as I appeared to be the only guest present at the Ryokan. Loved the location and enjoyed the food immensely. Great service and enjoyable stay. Would definitely visit again.

lovely outdoor private onsen
the outdoor private onsen makes this place the best place to stay in town. the room itself was rather small given the price, and the meal wasn't quite as incredible as other places along the trail, but the place is modern and clean and that onsen can't be beat.

This was a terrific property, located in the heart of Yunomine Onsen. The owner was attentive and helpful. We were there hiking the Komano Koda trail. He walked us to the trailhead, even though it was just the other side of the street from the property. The food was excellent and the property was in great shape.

We missed the bus from Hongu so the innkeeper offered to pick us up and drove us to yunomine onsen. They were also able to to serve us breakfast early. The staff was very accommodating and were amazing! Outdoor bath and meals were excellent.

A perfect end to a long day
After our longest day of trekking the onsen was on point, and very needed for tired feet. Our room had a spectacular view over the village. The food was abundant and well presented, we would definitely choose Yoshinoya again in Yunomine.

Yoshinoya Ryokan was amazing! The owners were helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable and had a fantastic view overlooking the Yunomine stream. Peaceful location
It was a long day of walking to get to Yunomine Onsen and a few of our group were feeling a little unwell. So maybe this meant we weren't quite as enthusiastic about this accommodation as other spots. Our room was overlooking the stream to the Onsen area so was lovely to hear the babble all night. Also on the booking form we did have a request for one ensuite room but all rooms were shared bathroom which was a disappointment to one in our group and a reason we booked this place. As in most accommodation places on the trail the hosts were friendly.

Lovely ryokan close to bus stop
Nice ryokan, hosts were very courteous and helpful especially with our wet shoes from walking in the rain. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. Onsen is across the lane from ryokan and bathroom is 2 floors down from our room. There is no lift at hotel so we had to carry our luggage up to second floor. Apart from that, pretty spot and nice big Japanese style rooms that was comfortable for 3 of us.

Very friendly guesthouse, atmosphere was lovely but maybe that was the guests I ended up staying with hahah. Bath area is traditional Japanese so prepare to rinse yourselves down with others before entering the bath, men and women separated of course. The onsen next door is beautiful. Bit of an eggy smell but understandable as it's legit mineral-rich hot springs! Dinner and breakfast were divine, very delicious. Staff were kind and attentive. I have to thank one of the receptionists as she ran after me with my phone after I had forgotten it. Thank God I hadn't got on the bus yet! Great place!

Great experience here
The innkeeper here was great, and was able to help with a couple of nonstandard requests for us (a place to keep some cold drinks, for example) very well. The outdoor bath was outstanding, probably the best onsen bath on the Kumano Kodo of our hotel baths.

Pleasant stay at an Onsen Ryokan
Stayed two nights at Yoshinoya Ryokan in June-July. What a pleasant place it is. The location is great, right along the Kumano Kodo. We did a day hike of the Hongu area loop, which starts and ends right at Yoshinoya's front step. The outdoor private onsen bath was lovely and unique, pretty easy to access while we were staying there (no line-ups). Hosts are helpful and pleasant, even helped us program our Japanese language GPS! Overall we had a wonderful stay at Yoshinoya and would highly recommend it to everyone. Things we didn't know about and wish we did: - Japan is extremely hot and humid during June/July. Hiking the Kumano Kodo during this time is physically exhausting because of the heat. Plan accordingly. - The onsen is 43 degree, quite hot but pleasant once you get in. However, there are a number of medical conditions that would preclude someone from using the Onsen, this was not listed in English. Check before to make sure you can safely use it.

Great location, food & service
We stayed here during our Kumano Kodo hike. They have the best location, very near the bus stop and the trails. It was raining hard so we came early to drop offour bags, but they had a room ready and allowed us to check in early. Best onsen we experience. Onsen and shower room isn't private but gender-specific so ladies are separated with men. Overall a great experience.

We arrived very early at Yoshinoya, yet the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful in keeping our luggage while we hiked to Hongu Taisha. Our room overlooked the stream that runs through the center of Yunomine Onsen, and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of water. Though not quite as stunningly presented as at smaller places, all the meals were hearty and delicious. There's a choice of onsens at Yoshinoya; the one connected to the building was clean and toasty warm.

One of the nicer and more modern places in Yunomine
Glad we chose Yoshinoya (with ensuite facility) as the building was well maintained. Room was pleasant and modern with ensuite which was nice after Minshuku Chikatsuyu. Enjoyed their outdoor hot spring but a challenge to check on availability. Service was professional but lacked personal touch as they were very busy. Food was good. Overall happy with choice.

Yoshinoya Ryokan is a wonderful little place that overlooks the river. The private outside spa was really nice. There didn't seem to be any way to reserve the private spa, but we had no problems getting in. Food was all delicious and we felt well-fed after each meal. Our hosts were accommodating and friendly. We don't speak much Japanese, unfortunately, and the host'55s English is limited, but we got by easily enough. There is a really lovely circuit of the Kumano Kodo that leaves right from the front of Yoshinoya Ryokan and brings you right back to your accommodation, so it's a great place to stay for two nights with a walk in between.

Undersized common bathroom
Compared to the other smaller minshukus, this ryokan felt less personable. It felt commercial. Room was rather cramped for 4 pax. There were too many rooms / guests and only 2 shower places in the ladies. It was very stressful to bathe. Totally defeats the purpose of a hot relaxing bath at the end of the day. Food was ok.

Great Yunomine accomodation and food!
This is a great option in yunomine with a beautiful (!!!) outside onsen attached to the hotel. You can use it as a couple when it's unoccupied (no booking you just go when it's free). It's also really close to the unesco world heritage onsen (if you go in the morning before walking to your next stop, I recommend going to the ticket desk at 6am or just after since one ticket gets you half an hour and youlll be in a queue with sometimes a big wait time). The food at the ryokan is also amazing- great breakfast! The only downside is no packed lunch but you can book one through this site that will be delivered to yunomine in the morning.

Great Ryokan!
It was a real treat to stay at this traditional ryokan. We stayed here for two days which was a great decision. The food was extraordinary and yunomine onsen is a lovely place. The owners were extremely nice and helpful and tried everything to help us plan our next route on kumano kodo.

We've loved our stay in this Ryokan. The installations was very clean, the room with the view on the river was nice, and the "futon" very comfortable. The meals was great and delicious!

Excellent location at end of long day
We did a long day on the trek and missed the bus, the owners in between cooking dinner came to collect us which we were so grateful. Great food, hot springs and large rooms with views over Yunomine Onsen. Highly recommended.

Stayed in Yoshinoya in June 2016 and it was fabulous. Our room had en suite toilet and overlooked the creek and the outdoor onsen. Owners showed us the indoor and outdoor onsens and they were both awesome and they were very nice. The hikes up and down back from Yumonine Onsen were challenging (we did the one day loop) but it was beautiful and coming back to Yoshinoya was a great end to day.

The perfect midway point on the Kumano Kodo
Well located, friendly and stylish little Ryokan in the middle of Yunomine Onsen along the Kumano Kodo trail. We spend two nights of our pilgrimage here, and were very happy we did. We used the extra day to Hongu. The indoor onsen is small and functional, but make sure to try the outdoor onsen ..

wonderful experience
The only ryokan we went during our trip : wonderful ! Things that may be improved : When we made the pre-reservation the price was lower, then to confirm the reservation there were additionnal fees because the stay was during the golden week. We would prefer to know the final price at the pre-reservation. The price was quite heavy so it could be good to include the onsen tax and one drink per person for the evening meal. It could be good to choose having dinner later (beginning between 7 pm - 8 pm)

Wonderful family rotemburo.
It was an excellent place to stay after trekking the Kumano Kodo. It's a relatively big place for Yunomine Onsen but it never felt crowded. The front desk guy was cheerful and easy going. Food was very good and beautifully presented. The family rotemburo is in a small enclosed garden and it's great to have a soak with family members.

I loved everything about this ryokan!
Very clean, comfortable and in a great location. The outdoor onset was sublime after a long day's walk. The food was awesome - very fresh and tasty. The husband and wife team were very caring - the wife even ran out to us on the street to tell us exactly where to take the bus from.

fantastic place to stay - great location for Kumano Kodo
We stayed at this excellent Ryokan last week for two nights and it was fantastic! We booked it through KUMANO TRAVEL Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau 727-2 Minato, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture and they were great to deal with ? we were fortunate to be able to plan the trip through Kumano Travel and Brad Towle in particular who has excellent English ? he is actually a Canadian who has lived in Japan for 20 years! Yoshinoya Ryokan is THE place to stay at Yunomine in my opinion ? the place is situated right on the Kumano Kodo trail and is clean tidy with excellent meals served for breakfast and dinner. They have a fantastic outdoor private onsen and an indoor hot bath ? one for women and one for men. The whole place is professional with great attention to detail and we would certainly recommend Yoshinoya Ryokan to anyone. The Kumano Kodo trails from there are spectacular.

Good stay!
I chose this onsen location apart from 2 others, because of its serenity and closeness to nature. Yoshinoya is decently priced and provide an interesting outdoor bath. There are interesting knick-knacks at the lobby and it is just a walk down to the Tsuboyu to cook softboiled eggs!

What a great location. We walked the Akagi-goe trail and at the end of the trail was Yoshinoya Ryokan. A very nice place to stay. The food was great. The onsens were a highlight with indoor and outdoor onsens. The rooms were warm and comfortable.

Excellent place to stay!
Extremely enjoyed my stay in Yoshinoya Ryokan. They have their own outdoor onsen even though the UNESCO Tsuboyu onsen is just next door. Owners of the place was very very friendly and I love the dinner and breakfast which they provided for us. A must stay in Yunomine!

Yoshinoya Ryokan
We had a comfortable though small room. We had private use of the hotel onsen which was very beautiful with rocks and trees around it and natural hot spring water - most welcome after a day of robust walking. The food was good too. The hotel is in the middle of the village so it is easy to walk around and look at the various historic onsens and buildings.

A good choice
This was a bigger guest house than the others that i stayed at on Kumano Kodo so slightly less personal in feel, but still friendly, very clean, good food and a wonderful location. The bedroom was good, though as a "single" room it was smaller than the other guest houses. It overlooked the stream/road, which i suspect most rooms do. The private bath option is really lovely, though the natural spring water is very hot (there is a cold water tap to add if you need it). It was great being right next door to the world heritage public onsen too - the town is so small it's no problem to wander down and back in your yukata (robe).

A beautiful ryokan!
Such a gorgeous setting, right on the river: the view from our room was amazing! The village is beautiful and everyone very friendly - a group of women were handing out free ice-cold iced coffee as we arrived! The ryokan is great, and the food magnificent! Beautiful to look at as well as delicious!

Incredible Onsen!
Yoshinoya's private Onsen was another highlight of our trip. It is so beautiful and private. A real treat! It would be nice if they could serve vegetarian meals -- the ""restaurants"" in Yunomine Onsen don't really have any options for vegetarians either. Maybe they could just subsitute Tofu for the meat in whatever else they are cooking?

We were there 2 nights. Good to great meal- had the best salmon sashimi of my life one night. Felt more traditional hotel-like. Onsen is magica and so worth it just for the onsen. Ryokan went out of his way to help me at 9 pm phone other hotels to find my passport. We had a beautiful room on the 2nd story overlooking the river.

Classic country inn
Yunomine Onsen is a super-cute little onsen town, and Yoshinoya was a thoroughly pleasant country inn. It might seem a bit rustic if you're used to more developed onsen resorts, but the staff was friendly, the rooms pleasant (if a touch small), and the food very good. If you're spending a few days seeing the Kumano region, I would definitely recommend it. My only criticism is that the water in the baths was really, really hot! So hot I could only immerse myself for a minute or two before starting to overheat. All of the baths I tried in Yunomine Onsen were like that, though, so I think it's just a consequence of being a rustic country town instead of a developed resort with greater infrastructure. The water quality was very nice, with a soft feel but without being too acidic or basic.

Perfectly located ryokan in historic Yunomine
After a long day of walking in the rain to Hongu Taisha, this ryokan was welcoming and warm. We utilised the outdoor private onsen with hot water straight from the spring. Though the rooms were smaller, they was still sufficient and the food was spectacular and filling. The ryokan is located a short walk from the bus stop for the next day's walking, starting from Ukegawa.

A great Ryokan + Onsen experience
Staff were really nice (but this is standard in Japan, except, sometimes in Tokyo). The room, the food, the onsen, it all felt so truly Japanese! Particularly enjoyable was the outdoor private onsen, with natural thermal water. A real natural luxury! This will be one of the best memories of our visit to Japan.

Fantastic private bath in central location
Very cute town with very hot baths. You can boil eggs and sweet potato in the centre of the town where the hot spring wells up. Our host showed us around the ryokan with good space and we had a great dinner and local sake in a private tatami room. They have a nice dog as well!

An incredible and super nice + relaxing stay. I enjoyed the comfort and the hosting extremely and my personal highlight was the private onsen. Great place to stay for a quick trek and experience the Onsen (bath) and Ryokan (japanese style hotel)
The owners are lovely people. Even though they spoke little English, it was good enough so we could both understand each other. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights which is recommended as the owners will give you a different meal experience each day. The food was great and you will be surprised on how it looks and taste, and might even think it came out of a professional kitchen. We had the ensuite room which was simple and elegant and kept very clean. I recommend this place to stay if you want to do a 1 day trek. We arrived in the night before and woke up early for breakfast and went on our trek. It was rainy and muddy but cleared up during the day. I recommend bringing a complimentary umbrella to protect you from the rain and sun (works well as a walking stick as well). It was a good 8hour walk including breaks from Yunomine Onsen to Kumano HOngu Taisha (Akagi-goe route) and back to Yunomine Onsen via Dainichi-goe section. After you complete this 1 day trek, come back to the private Onsen and relax with your partner or if you want to experience the full japanese Onsen, sit in the communal one.

Lovely days at Yoshinoya
I had a great time at Yoshiniya. The ryokan is beautifully located in Yunomine Onsen, just by the river. The place was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Perfect for relaxing after a day's walk in Kumano Kodo. The service is impeccable. Someone mistakenly took my shoes in the entrance of the ryokan, and the staff att Yoshinoya was SO helpful and really made a huge effort. In all, I'd recommend Yoshinoya to anyone, and would return without hesitation.

Disappointing experience, especially compared to some of the others
Overall, this may have been my least favorite place to stay on the KK. The facilities were a little run down and in desperate need of updating. The food was ok, but nothing special. The operators weren't unfriendly, but they didn't go out of their way to make us feel welcome either. We even got charged for coffee in the morning, and they tacked on an additional "tax" that didn't sit right with me. I would compare this place to an average roadside motel in the US and a far cry from the excellent minshukus we stayed in during the hike.

A traditional Japanese guess house. Owner can communicate with Engglish and was very helpful. Room is a bit small though and bath is small. There is a outside onsen which is quite special as you can onsen with your family as a private bath.

Excellent ryokan in every way
This is an excellent ryokan with excellent location being just next to the bus stop and Tsuboyu (UNESCO World Heritage onsen, which is a must-do for visitors to Yunomine Onsen). The owner of the onsen is also very friendly and provides exemplary service. The rooms are well maintained and well equipped with tv, phone and air-con. There are outdoor and indoor baths, both of which are very nice. The meals (dinner and breakfast) provided were superb and delicious. I would definitely recommend this ryokan to everyone.

Beautiful and Good Location
Good outdoor onsen. Best location, just next to the trailheads to the Dainichi-goe and Akigi-goe routes. 20 metres from bus stop. Great food. Owner speaks good English. Can't ask for more. Thanks for great stay!

A great night's accommodation after a long day of walking
Yoshinoya was a perfect end to a long day of walking. The private outdoor bath was very relaxing. Traditional meals were fantastic and service was very attentive. I would definitely recommend this inn. I would recommend taking the short bus ride from Hongu. Those of our group who walked this last part underestimated how steep and challenging this would be at the end of a long day of walking.

Way too overpriced!
to cut a long story short: nice accommodation BUT way too expensive!! Got the same/better service in Minshuku Nakano for half the price. Hosts also kind of hectic; didn´t feel so welcomed; private Onsen nice but not "breathtaking"; would NOT stay here again

New , clean and comfortable rooms. Practical. Room with a nice view on the village. Reception formal but not too personal. Hard to get early breakfast to catch an early bus. Tasty dinner upscale. Noisy on a Saturday night, curfew would be appreciated.

We were disapointed by the reception (not very welcoming) and by the fact that we could not book the private bath. The guestroom was very small, beds were made at 5pm and it was a smoking room; hence a strong smell of smoke.

nice onsen but not so nice food
The room and onsen in this ryokan were great and the location right in the centre of the village close to the busstop is really good. However food was not so nice since I do not appreciate bugs running from my plate. The sashimi should be kept in a place not reachable for bugs or kept under a hood. service seemed a bit confused and was not willing to offer more flexible dinner and breakfast times that would match the local bus timetable. In general this ryokan is really a great place but meals and service should be improved.

Great location, comfortable rooms, FANTASTIC private outdoor onsen
the reason to stay here is the private outdoor onsen which you can reserve for 30 min period. we used it twice (once in evening after hiking and once again in morning)! large enough for multiple people, but very tranquil on your own. right across from hotel. there is also an onsen in the building. rooms were good, location central.

Deliciously incredible
This is an amazingly beautiful onsen town, just perfect after a very challenging day of hiking. Walking around the ryokan in a yukata made me feel like royalty. The owners are so warm and friendly and even went the extra mile to help me dry my soaked hiking boots. This was definitely a treat!

Friendly and welcoming ryokan with wonderful baths and delicious food
Very friendly and welcoming staff, good mastery of English. The indoor baths and especially the private rotenburo outside were beautiful. The room was clean and spacious. Meals were beautifully presented and of excellent quality. Soft drinks and beers can be bought from a vending machine, and are also served at dinner (to be paid for separately). Very convenient location next to the bus stop.

Rotenburo is the best feature of this Ryokan, as is its very central location. Rooms, food and service a bit perfunctory. If you don't want to eat there, there is a small restaurant down the road. The public onsen is also just two minutes walk away.

Outdoor bath is phenomenal
Go to this place for the private outdoor bath, it's stunning, and private. The guestrooms overlook the natural spring. The food was of course fantastic, though I expected more of a high class Ryokan, the food wasn't really better than the Minshuku's. Still, nice people, pretty room, unbeatable outdoor natural baths.

A beautiful place to stay
Yoshinoya was a very nice place to stay for the 2 nights we were in Yunomine Onsen. The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful. While we were there we did a loop walk around the Kumano Kodo, starting and finishing in Yunomine. It took us 7 hours with breaks, including lunch. The walk was harder than I expected, but still very enjoyable.

This is the perfect place to stay when in Yunomine! The rooms were luxurious tatami, the overwhelming dinner was served in a separate room which we shared with a couple, and was very, very elegant haute cuisine. Both the indoor and outdoor onsen, running on the local sulfurous hot springs, were very pleasant and spacious! It was no problem for us to catch a free time slot for the outdoor onsen after dinner. Even considering the tininess of Yunomine, Yoshinoya Ryokan is located very central - we enter the village from Kumano-kodo just behind the building and watched on Tsubayu, the bathhouse sitting in the riverbed, from our window.

Beautiful location and stay

This place is nice!!

Yoshinoya was a nice place to end our hike and wind down. The owner was friendly and welcoming. He gave us a thorough walk through of the ryokan and during dinner, he made sure we were well taken care of. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The baths were hot, and the rotemburo was beautiful. Plus the baths are open 24 hours. We only had dinner here, but it was really delicious and the portions were perfect.

Old onsen but young and lively service
Everything are done to our need. This is the first lodging that offer us ashtray( we are smokers) in the room during the whole trip walking the Nakahechi. Meals are good. Bath is good. The rotenburo is great!

Very comfortable, modern and friendly ryokan
This ryokan is very modern and clean. The owners are absolutely friendly people and try to make one's stay as comfortable as possible. The food is delicious and traditional, very good sushi!! The location is perfect for anybody wanting to hike as two hikes literally start at the front entrance... Recommendable for family with kids as well as single travelers!

Yoshinoya Ryokan
Great location, right in the centre of the village, a few steps from the bus stop. Quite newish-style ryokan. Smallish room with a nice view of the stream outside. The best thing was the outdoor onsen (cold water tap was great for cooling the water temperature a little) - we could reserve it for ourselves. Walked from here to Hongu Taisha in an hour following the Kodo.

On your trail to Hongu we made a detour and stopped an Yunomine. We stayed there two days. It was amazing coming down through the dense forest and smelling first the hot termal water before seeing the village. The village is quite small and is situated along the river. The ryokan lies perfectly almost on the hiking trail to Hongu and just a few steps away from the bus stop. The Ryokan has quite large rooms. The rooms were clean and the stuff was very friendly. The food was tasty and we enjoyed it. There are an indoor and an outdoor bath. The outdoor bath is very special when you can go out in the night and enjoy the really hot water.

Must stay here!
Yoshinoya was amazing. Everything was great. The location, the food, the simple room, the amazing baths. We will be coming back here again. This was the highlight of the Kumano Kodo for us. Hiking all day and relaxing here at the end of the day was perfect. Plus the two minute walk to Tsuboyu and the bus stop was a huge plus. Super clean, super friendly and spoke some English.

Among the ryokan we have visited this by far had the smallest room. People are very friendly and helpfull although the English skills are restricted. Meals are average. Location is very romantic in the evening and early in the morning.

Splendid Hot Springs Inn
The Yoshinoya is a cheerful, comfortable inn located on the river in the center of the village. It is an ideal place to relax after hiking the Kumano Kodo; sore muscles quickly recover in the inn's wonderful hot springs baths. The meals are very good, and the staff was exceptionally helpful. Highly recommended.

Clean and comfortable and in a great location
A pleasant and comfortable ryokan in a superb location, but perhaps a little overpriced. The luxurious feel is compromised as the hotel is long overdue for redecoration and has obvious signs of wear. 24 hour access to hot and cold drinking water would have been beneficial. The indoor and outdoor baths are excellent, but could have been better prepared for evening bathing by being cooled a little, and in the case of the outdoor bath, having the leaves and debris from overhanging trees removed. There was also no tourist information at all on offer. Overall, well worth it for the location and the beautiful outdoor bath, but lacking a little in charm and attention to detail.

the outdoor bath was amazing
a very well run ryokan, almost at the end of the short street of yunomine onsen area therefore very quiet, we also saw some monkeys hanging out on roofs around us through the window. the outdoor bath is very nice, you can pay a little fee to have to all by yourself for the night, highly recommend.
