J-Hoppers Kumano Hongu Yunomine Guesthouse is an international hostel in Yunomine Onsen.  Originally a Minshuku, it was opened in 2017.  There are a variety of room types including a well-designed dorm, mixed-gender dorm, private Japanese style rooms and quad with two bunk beds.  Indoor and outdoor hot spring baths can be privately used to soothe and relax mind and spirit (a favorite for guests!).  A full communal kitchen and basic foods are available.  J-Hoppers is often described with the following keywords: easily accessible, well equipped, cozy and carefree, and super informative.

Yunomine Onsen (Hongu)

Minshuku Kuraya is a small guesthouse with over 100 years of history and features traditional Japanese construction. It is located by the creek in the middle of the Yunomine Onsen hot spring village.  Minshuku Kuraya serves local “family” meals and the hot spring bath is open 24 hours.  The communal dining room is surrounded by sliding shoji paper screen doors.  The guestrooms look out onto the village.  For those looking for an authentic guesthouse with Japanese architecture this is a good choice.

Iseya is a Japanese inn similar to a guesthouse. 

The service is very basic with limited support for guests.
There is no TV or refrigerator in the room. 


It is located in the center of Yunomine Onsen, famous for its healing hot springs.  The communal baths are gender segregated.

There are three ranks of simply, basic Japanese style rooms: Rank S, Rank A and Rank B.  The simple Bento-style meals are supplied by Minshuku Omuraya.

Guests lay out their futons by themselves and there is free Wifi in the common area. Mr. Goto is the owner and manages all facets of the accommodation on his own.


No elevator in the building.


Closed 20 and 21 each month.

Minshuku Adumaya-so is associated with Ryokan Adumaya and is located at the south end of Yunomine Onsen.  It is a simple accommodation with Japanese style rooms.  Meals are served in the communal dining area.  Guests staying at Minshuku Adumaya-so can use the atmospheric hot spring baths at Ryokan Adumaya, a short walk away.

Minshuku Adumayaso is associated with Ryokan Adumaya and is located at the south end of Yunomine Onsen.  It is a simple accommodation with Japanese style rooms.  Meals are served in the communal dining area.  Guests staying at Minshuku Adumayaso can use the atmospheric hot spring baths at Ryokan Adumaya, a short walk away.

Minshuku Teruteya is a small guesthouse tucked into the mountain side in the hot spring village of Yunomine Onsen, and is run by the hospitable Ms. Fujikawa.  The meals are lovingly handmade with fresh, local ingredients.  Teruteya is the princess in the legend of Oguri Hangan, who was miraculously healed in the Tsuboyu Bath.  The three guestrooms are located on the second floor and the communal dining room and onsen bath are on the ground floor.  This inn is decorated with handmade crafts and paintings by Ms. Fujikawa.

Onsen Minshuku Wadama

Onsen Minshuku Wadama is tucked away on a small sidewalk in the middle of Yunomine Onsen, Japan’s spiritual hot spring.  The building was originally the small settlement’s post office and now serves as a place to stay.  The entrance and main floor are classic Japanese architecture with tatami mat flooring, sliding paper doors and rich dark wood rafters (which are low, so watch your head!).  The original post office room now features a western style bed.  The baths are classic filled with pure hot spring water heated in the depths of the earth’s surface.  Meals are vegan with local ingredients.  The owner wishes to host couples and small groups that are interested in the history and atmosphere of this older home and the onsen culture of Yunomine Onsen.
