 Description

Cozy Chikatsuyu Inn Using Local Veggies

Albergue Chikatsuyu Pon is a cozy renovated local home turned into an inn featuring locally produced vegetables. The owners who have walked the Camino de Santiago extensively (over 10 times, ~2,500 km!) hope to share the hospitality and warmth they felt in Spain with Kumano Kodo travelers. Along with a comfortable stay, guests can try a "pongashi" homemade rice snack-making experience. "Pon" is the explosive sound the rice makes like popcorn when it is done and from where the inn gets its name. There are three compact Japanese-style rooms and a common area to share and interact with other guests. Meals are made from ingredients in their local garden and sure to refuel and rejuvenate Kumano hikers before they embark on their journey to Kumano Hongu Taisha.
