Description
A Peaceful Stay in Nonaka
Nestled in the quiet Nonaka area along the Kumano Kodo, Guesthouse Yatatan is a small, self-check-in retreat surrounded by the rich nature of Wakayama's Kumano region — a place to step away from everyday life and slow down.
Once a traditional Japanese farmhouse, the building has been thoughtfully renovated into a peaceful haven for pilgrims walking the Kumano Kodo. With interiors designed around calm, traditional Japanese aesthetics and only two rooms available per night, guests can enjoy an unhurried, tranquil stay.
Watching over guests is the guesthouse's beloved symbol, "Yatatan," offering a warm welcome to all who pass through. Our aim is simple: to give travelers a place to let their shoulders drop and truly rest, even just for a moment along their journey.
The property's "Sky Deck" offers sweeping views of the Kumano mountains and night sky. On clear nights, the deck opens up to a blanket of stars — a stillness and connection with nature rarely found in the city.
The location is ideal as a base for pilgrimage, with easy access to Kumano Kodo highlights such as Tsugizakura-oji and the Nonaka Shimizu spring water. The nearest bus stop, "Nonaka Ippon-sugi," is just a 3-minute walk away, making the guesthouse easily reachable by public transport.
In the shared spaces, guests naturally strike up conversations with fellow travelers — or simply enjoy quiet time on their own. Surrounded by Kumano's nature and gentle human warmth, we hope you'll find a moment here to truly unwind.
