Our best stay on the Kumano Kodo
Everything was perfect. The hosts are exceptionally kind and give a very warm welcome. The house is traditional, very clean and very nice. The vegan meals are prepared with love and are excellent. Really, this was our favourite place on the Kumano Kodo, a pity we stayed only one night.

A trip highlight
Beautiful house, wonderful hospitality with delicious vegetarian food and such nice women. The fact that it is not right on the trail is more than compensated by the great experience we had there. A highlight of our trip and I can highly recommend staying here.

FANTASTIC place to stay! Amazing accommodations...such a large house with everything you need. Super clean and organized. The meals were the best we had on our trip!! The ladies that run this place are the cutest, sweetest, nicest people we met in Japan!! And that's saying a lot because we met so many wonderful people. Thank you for everything!!! Only wish we booked it for more than 1 night!

Off-trail, but pleasant rooms and superb food / service make it a good choice
I'm not vegan, but if all vegan food was a tasty as that prepared by the Hibiki ladies, then I could imagine becoming one! Cheerful and helpful... good people. We stayed here because the places directly in Takehara were all full, but if I were to do the hike again, I'd choose Hibiki even if other accommodations were available.

Magical house
Aki and Chika were certainly the loveliest and most hospitable hosts we had on the trip (and everyone was good). The house is immaculate, spacious and has a lovely garden. Dinner was extremely good - delicious vegetarian (and we’re not so that’s saying something) and they were a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

An exceptional stay with wonderful hosts!
This stay was a very special experience. I came with my friend Sally for one night, on our first night of the Kumono Kodo walk. It was a very easy and effortless pick up from Takahara, and when we met the mother and daughter, Chika-San and Aki-san, we knew that we were in good hands. The accommodation was superb! The best on our walk and in fact our trip to Japan. We stayed in the old Japanese Teahouse, on the tatami-had a very comfortable and deep rest. The food was absolutely delicious, the lunch boxes fantastic too. And the hosts; the most kind hearted, generous souls, who are really going to great lengths to make walkers enjoy and value their time in Japan. Would go back to this place and recommend to all walkers. Very happy to see a place like this is on the path.

Beautiful house with very kind owners
Chika-san and Aki-san, mother and daughter, run a small local cafe/restaurant which is so charming and peaceful. They are a great team, and very sweet, kind and funny. The meals we had were excellent, and the ambiance and friendliness was superb. The house itself was spacious and beautiful. They even had two western-style beds along with the traditional tatami/futon rooms. This would be a great place to linger for an extra day or two. Also in a beautiful location with lovely gardens as well. There was no bath as far we we know, but it was still a very special experience.

Our favourite accommodation
Hibiki guesthouse is not just a rental home, it is an experience of true, local culture. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and as honoured guests. We arrived in the middle of some wet spring weather and our hosts were waiting at the bus stop with umbrellas, ready to guide us to the accommodation. That is certainly going the extra mile! The accommodation was clean and comfortable, traditional in nature and had some lovely touches such as the origami materials in the living area. The food is also commendable, it was both plentiful and fresh, prepared with care, affection and culinary knowledge. We were charmed by our whole experience.

Hibiki House a traditional Japanese treasure
Our Hibiki Rental House one night stay was an absolutely delightful experience. Arriving in Takahara to a rather ominous sky promising heavy rain after walking from Takijiri-oji, the owner, Aki anticipated our arrival without the need to call and transported us to Hibiki ahead of the deluge.
Both Aki, the guesthouse manager and her mother Chika, of the adjoining Café Bonte, are as previous reviews have said, two very warm, welcoming and charming Japanese women. Not only is the house spectacular in its Japanese traditional style, but also the comfortable interior and stunning artistic elements make Hibiki a treat to visit.
In addition, the meals were delicious. Prepared by Chika and Aki, the organic Japanese ingredients make Chika’s vegan cooking, even for non-vegan’s totally scrumptious.
Both women are masters in Google Translate and make conversation easily and clearly.
We would have been happy to stay longer and would love to visit again. Thank you Aki and Chika for being such gracious hosts.

Best place ever!! We love those ladies, the finest we ever met
They transport us to a wonderful place in a beautiful house surrounded by garden and tranquility. But mostly the host and her mother are wonderful. The lodging is perfect and the food very good. The best place we had in our 18 days in Japan and the best memories of the japanese women's hospitality. We keep them in our heart.

The best place and sweetest family we've met in Japan
We absolutely loved Hibiki House and Aki and Chika who run it and nearby Cafe Bonte. We were touched by hospitality, beauty and comfort we were greeted with.
The house is stunning. We even regretted that we spent only one night there. It had all facilities and is very stylish.
Food was probably one of the best things we had in Japan. Everything was organic and grown by the family or their friends, even rice (which was the most delicious rice we've ever tried).
And, most importantly, the owners were so heart-warming and sweet. We felt like we're leaving house of our new friends and we really hope to see them again one day.

Hibiki house
This guesthouse was one of the highlights of our trip and we would highly recommend to others. Putting the amazing food aside for the moment, the mother and daughter curators who also run the cafe next door are two of the most genuinely nice and friendly people you would ever meet. Although they only had limited English and we had no japanese language it was impossible to feel uncomfortable with these two women and conversations through Google translate felt easy. They picked us up from takahara rest stop and once arriving we were amazed and how lovely the guesthouse was, it has all the amenities one could need and the construction and decor of both the house and the garden is exquisite. The meals were sensational, I had to consciously slow myself down to savour every moment (Although that was hard to do). On top of all that there is an environmentally conscious theme to the house and cafe which was lovely to see, and fresh local produce utilised in the meals (e.g.. The fresh orange juice in the morning came from their backyard). If ever I visit this area again I will make sure to plan my trip in order to stay at hibiki house again.

The best accommodation of all
The hosts were so warm and welcoming. Japanese hospitality at it's finest. The cafe and guest house were beautiful. Meals were healthy and creative- much different than other food in Japan. It was a wonderful, first class experience, throughout & I recommend it to other travelers without hesitation.
