Kohechi Onsen Lodging in Omata

Hotel Nosegawa is located in a tiny settlement of houses next to Kawarabi-gawa River deep in the heart of the Kii mountains. It is famous for its hot spring baths and isolated location, with all rooms facing the river.

Meals are made from local ingredients in the mountains, such as wild meats, and fish from the nearby river.

This mountain-side accommodation can be visited with a convenient shuttle service to/from Koyasan. It is also popular with hikers on the Kumano Kodo, Kohechi section, with Obakotoge-pass to the south and Koyasan to the north.

From the Omata trailhead, Hotel Nosegawa is a 40-minute walk and a short drive by car.  You can call the hotel from the pay phone at the trailhead and they can pick you up with their shuttle bus.

A good stop on the journey with excellent food

The onsen was quite old and in urgent need of renovation, especially the women's section. The guest rooms were clean and spacious, and the food was truly exceptional.

Wonderful stay in an authentic hotel

Hotel is a bit off the Kumano Kodo Kohechi route but with a 10 yen coin you can call them from a stationary phone directly at the trail for pick up by car. We liked it a lot and can highly recommend!

Hotel Nosegawa, nestled in the heart of the Kii mountains, offers a unique and unforgettable experience. The hotel's secluded location, surrounded by the beauty of nature, is perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The hot spring baths provide a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, while the meals, prepared with fresh local ingredients, offer a taste of the region's cuisine. The hotel's shuttle service makes it easy to explore the nearby Kumano Kodo trail and the historic town of Koyasan. Although the hotel may feel a bit dated, its rustic charm and authentic atmosphere add to its appeal.

Wonderful stay

Due to heavy rain I had to skip the first day hiking Kohechi and arrived early at Hotel Nosegawa around 11 hours in the morning. I spent a very lovely day enjoying the Onsen, my cosy room, the delicous food, doing my laundry and looking out onto the river. The hotel is a great location to relax!

Fantastic dinner!

The accommodation might be a bit out of the way for people walking the Kumano Kodo trail, but the accommodation offers a shuttle service to the trail (and even on foot the additional distance is completely acceptable). The highlight of my stay here was definitely the dinner. It was a fantastic kaiseki course, definitely worth the money!

Nice hotel on the river!

Elevators, good food, menu is in English and Japanese. Many of the staff spoke English. They had an onsen that I did not have time to use. My room was comfy and faced the river. This is a great place to stay after a long first day out of Koyasan -- a real hotel, clean, with everything you need, air conditioning too. There are vending machines outside if you still need something early in the morning or late at night (maybe something extra to take with you on the hike). I enjoyed my time there.

Location - great in that it was next to the river. Not so good in that we didn't realise that a shuttle was available, so we walked there from the Kumano Kodo trail, along a tarmac road on a hot sunny afternoon. This was entirely our own fault though!

Very friendly and surprisingly large hotel for the small village of Nosegawa; overall would definitely recommend. Stunning view of the river from our window that we (and quite a few guests) took the opportunity to splash about in - the hotel will supply crocs.

Great Onsen Hotel

This was our second night of our Kohechi trail hiking trip. The hotel itself was a short walk from the trail head, though we got slightly lost in the village of Nosegawa. There were no signs once we were in the village and we stumbled upon the hotel after a few minutes of walking (it was along the river). The baths were the first onsen baths we've been to, and they relaxed our tired muscles. The dinner was spectacular, with a calligraphy menu explaining to us what each of the twelve dishes were. There was a coin-operated laundry room, and though it did not entirely dry our clothes, it was a great help!

Really nice spot after a hard walk

We came from Miura-Guchi and so it was our harder day on the trail. When we arrived in Omata we called the hotel with the public Phone and they picked up us only 5 minutes later ! The hotel is well equiped and the staff was really helpful. Our room was nice and with a beautiful view on the river and a waterfall ! The onsen was good with a hot and a less hot bath. Dinner and breakfast were tasty but too much food for us ... we couldnt finish our dishes which is really unusual to us !

A true Japanese experience

After our first day of hiking the Kohechi Trail, we were pleasantly surprised of the deluxe accommodations of the Nosegawa Hotel. The staff was very pleasant and informative, our room had an amazing view, our meals were delicious and the Onsen was delightful. Our first place with Yukatas. The laundry facilities were an added bonus. The beds were very comfortable. We could have easily spent another night here.

Everything is perfect about this hotel, especially the staff and the food! My only problem was getting there because the road is blocked when coming down from the trail. Mote information should be given to hikers about this because the only signpost is in Japanese.

Good service in out of way location

We were walking Kohechi, and the shuttle service was quite prompt and helpful. The hotel is a bit older but very clean and comfortable. The host went out of his way to help us. When we left, we had to turn back on the walk due to bad weather, and appreciated the host picking us up again from the Omata trailhead, and sending us to Koyasan in the shuttle.

With only two options for accommodation near the village of Omata, Nosegawa was a great first night option. The meals were delicious, leaving us full for the walk uphill on the second day. Shuttle to and from the hotel was prompt.

Good hotel, onsen and food

Spacious hotel with a very large room, a very nice onsen and a very rich meal. The only flaw is that the room smelled a little weird. The employees were very friendly. It was well worth staying at this hotel.

Hotel Nosegawa - excellent first night

We stopped here for our first night on the Kumano Kodo Kohechi trail. The manager was amazingly hospitable and friendly. We really enjoyed the unique character of the hotel and excellent onsen. Both meals and the lunch box were delicious.

My husband and I had a very pleasant stay in hotel Nosegawa. The hotel is not directly at the Kumano Kodo hiking path, but it was no problem to organize a hotel pickup at the trail head and a morning shuttle back to the trail head. Food was fantastic, especially the dinner with local specialties. In addition, the warm spa was very welcome after a day of hiking.

A nice place to relax in between hiking

Great baths, good views, nice service. The onsens really help to refresh one's body during a long hike on the kumano kodo.

An absolutely fantastic place to stay.

It was well signposted and easy to find from the Kohechi trail. The staff were all very polite and extremely helpful. The room, the views and the hot baths were excellent. The food was delicious, particularly the evening meal, which was perfect after a day's hiking. I highly recommend the hotel, and hope to return in the future.
