A cheap business hotel in central Shingu
This is a business hotel, no frills. Laundry is free(including dryers) but it's in the basement/parking garage which is a bit of a pain to get to. It's "far" from Hayatama Taisha and the other Kodo sites, so about a 20-30 min walk. It's also about 10 min from the train station. Close to a couple grocery stores and a few INCREDIBLE Izakaya's, notably Aun, which Miyazaki once ate at.
They speak very limited English, but try. I slept through the free breakfast, so I cannot comment.

Great budget option to stay near Kumano Hayatama Taisha
This was the final stay on our Kumano Kodo trek. Throughout the experience, we enjoyed getting to see different ways of Japanese living, so a business hotel was a great option! The room is small, but can easily fit a couple. Everything was clean and orderly. The reception was kind. Easy walking distance to restaurants, convenient stores, and the train station. The breakfast buffet was convenient, though you might enjoy other options nearby.

Nice place to stay for short visit
They specially made us a vegetarian meal for breakfast. The room was small but sufficient for two people. No public bath but there was attach toilet-bath in the room. Overall nice experience.

The room and the building look a bit old. Despite being non smoking room, it really smell a lot cigarette in the corridor. The breakfast might be a bit light for people with a big appetite.

The hotel's lobby and it's room has bad smell
As long as you walk into the hotel's a strong moldy smell, once you get into the room it gets better because there's a air purifier in the room. but you can still smell it...

This hostel is just acceptable for one night. The room was very little as the bath and not so clean. The breakfast was poor. The only good points are the kind staff (more english would be appreciated in a hotel) and its location near to the JR station

Reception was good (they had our keys ready on the front desk when we walked in) but they speak no English. Location is difficult, it was a long walk from the Hayatama station. Buffet breakfast is simple but good. Rooms are small.

An average hotel stay.
Pretty much the average hotel stay. Price is a bit high but still fair.
Friendly staff and simple breakfast (bread, hard-boiled eggs, butter jam and coffe).
The bath-toilet was a bit old and moldy. Room was okay.

Our service was excellent, but...
In spite of that, I would not stay here again if I could avoid it. Unfortunately, the rooms smelled and were not clean and the bathrooms were cramped (although functional). The continental breakfast was not good at all, particularly the coffee (I could barely get through one cup of it). I guess the location was alright--not too far of a walk from the train station, about 10 minutes or so. The reception staff was very nice and tried to take good care of us though, so that was the saving grace. They definitely meant well, but if I had other options to stay, I would try somewhere else.

Careless
Once we could check in we did not get any explanation about the city or about the services concerning our reservation in the hotel. The offered room was in a door next to reception desk and the look was quite old fashion and careless but also quite dirty, full of dust in the carpet. The bath was dirty, you could see they were not cleaning properly. The mattress was not firm. Breakfast was quite poor in pieces and without quality.

All the essentials
The hotel itself is in need of an update, but the linens are clean, the water is hot and the staff is very eager to please. Dinner options in the area are a bit limited, though there's a grocery store nearby. And the hotel is easy walking distance to the station as well. A good basic option in Shingu.

The room was crammed with furniture. Wifi had to be installed by connecting two cables diagonal through the room.
The bath was impracticaly small, even for slim people like us.
Shingu did not have much to offer by the time we arrived. The Main temple and castle ruins were still nice though.
They had a washing machine though which was helpful.
