Peaceful riverside ryokan
Kamigoten Ryokan offers a fantastic traditional ryokan experience. The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were a highlight of our Japan trip, and the hot spring water felt wonderfully silky.

Charming stay at Ryujin Onsen - Kamigoten Ryokan
We have really enjoyed our stay and the onsen baths! The room was spectacular and the service very welcoming and warm, they really went out of their way to make the stay pleasant. There was a lot of food, we could not eat it all, we are weak eaters me and my husband, but it was delicious. I highly recommend everybody to visit.

This historic Ryokan is a very special traditional inn. We stayed for two days to fully enjoy the onsen and the beautiful valley where the inn is located. We also arrived by public bus from Koyasan which was easy to arrange, and we were dropped at the entry of the inn where we were met by staff at the roadside and shown to our rooms. The lady that was assigned to help us for our stay was wonderful. Of particular note, the food that was prepared for us was simple amazing and some of the best meals I have had in Japan. The menu was set by the inn each day. The dinner on the second night was wonderful and completely different from the dinner on the first day. It included large cooked shrimp, sliced roast Japanese beef, shabu shabu, sashimi and numerous side dishes. I would highly recommend this inn to persons that are both familiar with a traditional Japanese ryokan and those that wish to have this experience.

Relaxing time
Very nice and relaxing time spent at the Kamigoten Ryokan. We stayed one night and we enjoyed a lot staying in a traditional village with absolutely nothing around. The staff was very nice and helpful and they served us a nice dinner and breakfast.

Exceptional accomodation
Kamigoten exceeded our expectations. The onsen and rooms were exactly as described but the friendliness of our hosts was an unexpected delight. The food was incredibly good.

Best Ryokan I have ever stayed!
Great place to spend night or two. Old traditional ryokan, with nice and helpful staff. Nice onsen and great rotenburo with amazing view. Big rooms, and Onari-no-ma room is just breath taking! All the old furniture and daimyo style set up make it just amazing. And meals where so big and tasty, that you cannot stop eating with joy. Location is quite remote but is so beautiful that it is a must to visit place. I recommend it for anyone who want to experience real Ryokan!

部屋も温泉も大満足でした。大日越で疲れた足腰を癒していただきました。温泉に３度も入りました。
お料理も、里山の食材をふんだんに使ってあり、夫も大満足でした。とにかく、ゆったりと過ごすことができました。
１２月１日からバスの時刻が変更になっていたのに、旅館の方が知らずに、ゆっくりしてくださいと言ってくれるのは大変うれしかったのですが、慌てました。
ぎりぎりでバスに乗ることができました。よかったよかった。 また訪れたいです。

Very nice stay.
The room was big and comfortable. Japanese (ie. you sit on pillows on the tatami on the ground and you sleep on futons. You wash yourself in the communal wash-room that is part of the onsen. There the showers for washing, a nice warm basin fon relaxing and an outside ""rotemburo"" (hot water basin) made of natural stones are provided.
The Ryokan is located in an impressive national park. We apparently were the only foreigners for miles on miles.
To get there is only possible by car or local bus (twice a day, last departure from the train station: 2 pm, travel time 90 minutes).
The meals are served in the room. Very elaborately prepared first class Kaiseki meals.
A wonderful experience.

An inspiring visit to Ryojin Onsen!

Serene Onsen overlooking a river

If you are looking to truly relax, there is no better place than Kamigoten. After a wonderful meal relax under the stars in the rotemburo and you will never want to leave. We have stayed in the heritage building which will let you step back in time, the new wing rooms are beautiful as well and will give you the chance to fall asleep to sound sight of the river flowing by outside your room.

Wonderful Ryokan and Onsen, fantastic food, you must try the ume-shu. The onsen waters are the best I have experienced, with wood baths and a riverside private bath. We look forward to going again as soon as possible!

A bit disappointing
We were very excited to come to Kamigoten Ryoken because we had booked the Feudal Lord Room. Being fascinated with the Edo period and the historical setting in Japan, the room itself did not disappoint. It was clearly a well-maintained and rather sacred area, and we very much appreciated this. Unfortunately, we did not feel that the hospitality was quite so satisfactory. We experienced some problems travelling from Kii-Tanabe station to Ryujin and unfortunately it meant our late arrival; we arrived about 7pm. Being our first trip to the area, it took us some time to find our bearings and while other places we stayed in were accommodating and understanding if we arrived late, it was apparent to us that this was not the case here. We felt the lady who owned the inn treated us impatiently, almost to the point of disapproval, and we did not feel the same welcoming atmosphere here that we felt in other places we stayed in. We have the deepest respect for the history and culture of this place, but our stay was marred by the lack of warmth that we had grown used to during our visits in Japan. This was the most expensive place we stayed in, but, for us, it was the worst. We will not return. The room itself, however, was fascinating and Ryujin onsen has some lovely scenery.

Kamigoten Ryokan was Amazing!
I stayed there last week (April 2014) and it was such a great place. The location was beautiful and the river view from the room was incredible. The room was big and cozy and the baths were great. It was very peaceful and quiet and had all of the hospitality and service you expect from a Japanese Onsen. I highly recommend this ryokan.

This was the most incredible Ryokan and Onsen experience I have ever had. The traditional building was authentic and well maintained. The food was good. The service was excellent. Great experience and excellent service
It is our first time to Ryujin onsen. When we arrived by bus, the staff at Kamigoten has already been waiting for us. Eventhough it was just mid-day, we were allowed to check-in. The staff quickly gave us a tour of the Ryokan and warm tea and snacks were served. What a great hospitality. Eventhough it is a national cultural building, the decoration is very fine and facilities are very up-to-date. The dinner and breakfast were both top quality. The open-air onsen was very enjoyable. Highly recommended!

A good splurge and a splash
Very traditional, historical place to enjoy a ryokan, onsen and small rotemburo experience all in one. Food was excellent and presented superbly.(Remember that you don't choose the food; it is a Kaiseki set.) Bilingual notes and book were used to good effect. The whole experience really suited me. Bus trip from Koyasan was scenic. And then same to Tanabe.

Great Onsen experience!!
Very pleasant stay. We stayed there for one day as a couple. Room, food, and especially the outdoor and indoor onsen (that is why you are here!) was perfect. Staff, though not fluent in English, was very helpful and managed all communication smoothly (with a help sheet). In the town there is not much to see, it seems, but if you are looking for a local restaurant, we can recommend the small family-run restaurant straight up the hill near the bus stop.

龍神温泉 上御殿
１泊２日の短い旅でしたが、楽しく過ごさせてもらえて良かったです。旅館の季節の生け花が綺麗でした。掃除が行き届いたお部屋、旅館全体でした。もちろん、お湯は、申し分なしに気持ち良かったです。
ただ、露天風呂が、先客があれば鍵がしてあるのですが、待つ場所がすごく寒かったです。待たないと、他に場所がないので、そこしかなかったのが残念でした。
ご飯は、土筆や蕗の薹のてんぷらがおいしかったです。山の幸が中心ですが、辛い佃煮みたいなのが多かったです。
交通の方は、まだ、洪水の跡があって、土砂崩れの復旧作業中の道に臨時信号で一方通行になっていました。
