3rd Place Kumano Kodo is an old farmhouse in the Nonaka area near Tsugizakura-oji on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. Mr. Tetsuyama has reformed the building while maintaining the authentic charm of the countryside, rich deep browns of aged wood, tatami mats, fusuma sliding doors, and veranda - decorated with antiques.

There are 2 buildings, Main building and Annex. Each of them are for private rental, only two booking per a day.

There is a full kitchen, small bath, toilet, bicycles, and free Wi-Fi;  making for a convenient stay.
The congenial Mr. Tetsuyama is passionate about sharing the local mountain culture. He is an organic farmer with the diversity of crops. He would like guests to feel at home -- your personal third place on the Kumano Kodo!

Kumano Guest House is a small lodging near the Kii-Tanabe station (less than 5 minutes walk) run by a mother and son combination.  

The main facilities features two Japanese style rooms on the second floor with tatami flooring and sliding doors. The first floor features a reception. Guestrooms are non-smoking with air-conditioning, TV, and small communal refrigerator. There is a washing machine and balcony to hang clothes to dry.

Danshaku is a café and guesthouse with unobtrusive store front on a back street near Tokei-jinja shrine in Tanabe City.  It is run by a retired man who loves music and chatting with customers.  He prides himself, and takes true enjoyment, in serving coffee one guest at a time.  (Don’t order coffee if you are in a rush!)  His love of music began in childhood and has a collection of over 1500 CDs with 700 being classical!  (He currently streams from YouTube now and again to compliment his library!)  The guestrooms are on the second floor and are Japanese style.  The bath and toilet facilities are in the back of the café.

Anakashico Hostel Kumano Kodo is a traditional Japanese house remodeled in the style of an international dormitory-style backpackers' hostel just 5 minutes walk from Susami Station. The owner started this inn after returning from a study-abroad experience in the hopes of creating a fun career while backpacking around the world. The inn faces the seas and is close to the station and about 10 minutes from the Kumano Kodo Ohechi trail. There are mixed and women-only dormitory rooms. Only No Meals plans available, but there are a few shops, restaurants, and even a wine bar nearby. This inn is great for guests walking the Kumano Kodo Ohechi route!

TSUKASA HOUSE is a comfortable guest house just 10 minutes walk from Kii-Tanabe Station. It is within walking distance to Ajikoji restaurant district, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tokei-jinja, the Pacific Ocean, and also convenience stores and bento box-lunch shops. The renovated traditional home exudes the warmth of scented wood and offers 3 Japanese-style guestrooms. The manager moved from Yokohama and is now a local interpreter guide who speaks Japanese and English and can answer questions about Tanabe or the Kumano Kodo. It is recommended for guests just visiting the city or planning to walk the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi or Ohechi the next day.

Ataigawa Guest House is a beautifully renovated family home located 20 minutes walk from Kii-Tanabe Station. The building is over 100 years old with an interesting layout. The second floor has separate large living quarters with their own stair entrances with door locks.  The 1st floor is communal space shared with other guests including living room, kitchen, bath and toilet. The owners hope it would be a comfortable stay for both Japanese and international guests interested in Japanese rural culture.  The lodging offers no meals, but guests can enjoy delicious seasonal seafood at any number of izakaya-style restaurants in the Ajikoji district close to Kii-Tanabe Station. It can be a relaxing option for those planning on walking the Kumano Kodo the next day.
