Kumano Guest House is a small lodging near the Kii-Tanabe station (less than 5 minutes walk) run by a mother and son combination.
The main facilities features two Japanese style rooms on the second floor with tatami flooring and sliding doors. The first floor features a reception. Guestrooms are non-smoking with air-conditioning, TV, and small communal refrigerator. There is a washing machine and balcony to hang clothes to dry.

He started by building a small wooden hut for a tea house where walkers on the Kumano Kodo section between Tanabe and Takijiri-oji could take a break. Then over a period of 1.5 years he built a small bath house with homemade goemon cauldron bath and a simple cabin for sleeping. The buildings are spread out over a large grassed area.
A simple breakfast is supplied but evening meals must be bought before arriving or eat at a rural Chinese restaurant nearby.
Shuttles are available from nearby train stations: Asso, Kii-Tanabe and Shirahama, plus Takijiri-oji and Takahara.
If you arrive early ask the owner to try blow darts, canoe or his other hobby!

Maru House is a Japanese home in a quiet residential neighborhood within 10 minute walk from the JR Kii-Katsuura train station. There are two guestrooms (one on the first floor and one on the second floor). There is a communal kitchen, dining room and Japanese style living room common area to relax. The young manager is very interested to talk and learn from guests, it was his dream to open a guesthouse in his hometown to host people from around the world. Nobody lives in the house full-time, but rather designed as a small home-style guesthouse.

Motoyu Bekkan is the "annex" or "bekkan" of the "hot spring source" or "motoyu". Motoyu is the name of the main public hot spring bath in Ryujin Onsen, famous for its beautifying effects on the skin, which serves as the bathing facility for guests staying at the accommodation. Motoyu Bekkan is located across the river from the main center of Ryujin Onsen via a walking bridge. All of the rooms are simple Japanese style that look out towards the river. There is a communal sitting area and basic cooking facilities, although there are no cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc available. You can bring your own food or eat at the nearby Izakaya Nagomi.
*Motoyu Bekkan is closed from the begining of December to the end of February.
