Kumano Kodo Yado G Chikatsuyu Review
This accommodation was an easy walk from the trail. The hosts were very nice, greeted us and showed us to our rooms. The rooms were comfortable and provided a welcomed break after a full day of walking. There were a number of guests staying at this guest house, and it only had one shower and toilet, which presented a bit of a challenge. The dinner and breakfast meals were excellent and we enjoyed talking with the hosts and the others that shared the table with us. The boxed lunch was a little disappointing, but met the basic needs.

The supper was delicious. The lunch box was however dissapointing. I know some foreigners don’t appreciate a japanese lunch box, but I don’t appreciate having a hot dog for lunch in Japan. I know it was well intentionned by the owners.

Chikatsuyu stay
Older property, large room, no television, no complimentary tea or coffee. The stay provides an electric jug to boil water & cold water in a fridge. On the day we stayed there were 13 total guests. There was one toilet & one bathroom/changing area with a modern shower & a japanese style bath. Bathroom hours were 3pm to 9pm so the bathroom was constantly in use. The property is around a 5 minute walk to a small supermarket & around 2 minutes to the Chikatsuyu bus stop for onward travel. We arrived on a Tuesday & all the shops were closed. I am not sure if this happens every Tuesday or was a special holiday. Difficult to find on printed maps (not shown) & Google maps. Best searched by address.

Authentic stay with delicious food
This was our first stay on a track and we loved the hosts, their house and the delicious food they made for our group of 7. It is a traditional Japanese house, they had everything we needed, the dinner was a highlight with great variety of everything and the big hot pot of seafood and meat at the end - sumo wrestler's food! We loved it. The hosts were very kind, caring and always smiling :-) We felt very welcomed. The breakfast and lunch provided for a next day hile was also sufficient and made with love. We all fell in love with Chikatsuyu people! :-)

Nice stop for a rest
We really enjoyed the traditional hospitality. Although no meals were served, we were able to pick up somethings at the grocery store and bakery. There are also a few restaurants in town, so we did not go hungry. It is a shared bathroom set up which was only an issue when everyone wanted an early start to the day, so there was a bit of a wait, but everything was clean and organized.

Hosts were welcoming. Food was delicious and conversation over meal helped us to learn a lot about the area. Hostess washed our hiking clothes for us for a minimum fee. Accommodations are shared. Private rooms but only one toilet and two showers with a shared changing room. 11 guests there made it a bit stressful.

Best food and hospitality in Kumano.
We ate dinner and breakfast here and it was simply delicious. All made by the owner, had amazing verity and super well done. Not to miss! The only small thing that was a bit inconvenient is staying at a separate room.from the main house, which required some effort during the night to go to the bathroom. So make sure you are staying in the main house.
The hosts are super nice too!

Both hosts came out to the foyer to greet me as soon as I arrived and explained everything in the house to me. The room was spacious and I liked the personal touches. It was located centrally in Chikatsuyu, and I got great sleep for the next day’s hike.

場所が本道から奥まったところにあるのでもっと目立つように看板など立っていたら通り過ごさずに済んだでしょう。

This is not only a very convenient place to stay if you are walking but a friendly and incredibly comfortable guest house. The food is amazing. Nobody is disappointed, vegans, vegetarians and pescatarians all get delicious and copious amounts of food. Wonderful village to wander around with a great beer/wine bar.

Beautiful house and meals
The owner "G" and his wife were warm and welcoming during my stay. The house itself is beautiful, and located conveniently for hiking the Nakahechi. Meals were fantastic too - dinner was hotpot with several small side dishes, and breakfast was western style.
The walls were thin, however, which led to a fair amount of unavoidable noise when other guests move around, so I'd recommend bringing earplugs. I thought it was a little crowded for the size of the house. Meals are served in the kitchen and one eats with the other guests, and as an introvert, I found it a little awkward.

Basic but lovely experience.
Lovely friendly host who worked so hard to make us comfortable in his home. We felt there were maybe too many of us (8 guests) for his home and facilities but still a lovely clean friendly home-stay experience. Not much to do in Chikatsuyu town and because we arrived early, we caught a bus to Yunomine to use the onsen before returning for check-in and dinner.

Expensive for what is basically a hostel experience. Nice meals but line ups for shared bathroom and shower, and guests in the next room left early in the morning and were very loud eating breakfast and leaving.

I really enjoyed the night here.The host and hostess were warm and amiable. Both the courtyard and the rooms were elegantly decorated. The dinner was excellent! Especially that pot of soup. After a tiring day of hiking, having such a bowl of soup, I think I will always remember this flavor. The shower room in the bathroom was a bit small. We were quite lucky because there were very few guests checking in, so it didn't cause any trouble. However, if there were a large number of people, it might be a bit crowded.

Really great friendly place to stay. The owner and his wife were so accommodating and cooked the most amazing food for up to 12 guests in their tiny kitchen. They worked so well together producing a beautiful dinner and breakfast. The Japanese style rooms were lovely with a shared bathroom and toilet. However we were spoilt and had a great room at the front of the house and the owners wife let us use the private toilet next to it.

This was a very nice little guesthouse, located in the middle of Chikatsuyu right next to the Kumano Kodo trail. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful.
I especially liked how everyone sat at the same table for dinner, it made it really easy to get to know the other guests and swap stories.

Such a warm welcome
A lovely home stay with a warm welcome. The duvet cover was a delight and use of AC/heating in the large bedroom very nice to have. The house is a bit tricky to find when one arrives, but a neighbour explained to follow the ceramic plates with a G on them. Local supermarket a 7 minute walk away has all the snacks one could need for the day ahead. Dinner in the family home’s kitchen was generous and delicious. Include a hot pot with a massive prawn and other delicacies. The next day’s lunch to go was disappointing: a hotdog sausage in a hotdog bun, and another hotdog bun with potato salad, plus a banana and a small bottle of something to drink. Glad I had visited the super market for extra snacks.

Super authentic guesthouse with the friendliest host couple
Our room was absolutely beautiful and we loved staying somewhere that felt like a proper B&B in someone’s house. We got to know the fellow guests as we all ate together and the hosts couldn’t have been sweeter. Only thing that could have been improved was the food. Some more carbs for dinner would have been appreciated when hiking all day, and the breakfast and lunch were very simple.

Adorable accomidations
We stayed here our second night after our longest hike. It was easy to get to and our hosts were very sweet. Dinner was a warming hot pot and lots of lovely side dishes. There is one main building and two side buildings, we stayed in the main one. It was clean, warm, and such an enjoyable stay.

Great traditional Japanese experience
We had a great stay, the room was comfortable and spacious and even of the bathroom was in the main house it was not a problem at all. Our hosts took very great care of us and served us delicious dinner, along with the other guests. I would definitely recommend staying here!

It’s a hostel, but food is great!
On arrival, we were initially disappointed, because there were 15 people jammed into this very small house. But it is the only accommodation in the town, and that is to be expected. The food however was amazing! The host is very welcoming, and in retrospect we had a wonderful time here. I think our expectations were a little too high but it was fantastic.

A Memorable Journey at Kumano Kodo
The host couple was super friendly. Location was perfect. There was a supermarket nearby (around 10 minutes walk). We selected the supper, breakfast & lunchbox package. Everything was just so nice and delicious! Thanks for the yummy Chanko-Nabe >v< Giving us huge power to complete the hiking! Will definitely visit this lovely guesthouse again!

Lovely stay in an old house
We enjoyed the welcome, the Japanese room and the meals. The chanko-nabe was fun! The hosts were quite helpful, too, pointing out where best to start the next morning.

Lovely authentic guesthouse experience
We really enjoyed staying here, the food was delicious and the host family were very personable and helpful. It was in a great location too next to the trail. The lunchbox was excellent and we loved the coffee at breakfast.

Welcoming Hosts
While this guest house is older and in need of a washroom update, the gentleman running the home is lovely and tried very hard to make everyone feel comfortable. He went out of his way to communicate with is limited English and help us with some transit arrangements. The washrooms need cleaning between the many guests. Take out lunch was poor.

Our hosts were very friendly and happy to tell us about their place and its surrounding. The dinner (we had chankonabe) was excellent. It was also fun to getvzo know some other fellow travellers. The couple who looked after us were charming and kept the whole house very clean and tidy. Despite sleeping on a tatami mat, which is more uncomfortable than a bed, we tried the experience. The food was plentiful and tasty.

Comfortable homestay
We enjoyed chatting over dinner, to the lovely hospitable couple & the other hikers. Beds were comfy & hosts were helpful (we enjoyed the short tour of town!) Dinner & breakfast were delicious & plentiful. The lunch bread rolls were one of the smaller bentos on the trail but since we were spending the day in the area & only walking to Tsugizakura it didn't bother us. Consider having extra snacks on hand if you're doing a long day's hike.

This place is very intimate - accommodating only a few guests. Hosts kindly invited and brought us guests to the village’s Bon Odori and we were able to join the fan dance and have a special tour of the temple (they allowed us to play the singing bowl). Laundry is free (special service). Also, I arrived 1 hour early but the hosts accommodated me.
The downside - location. I couldn’t find it in Google maps and the post office did not know about the place as well. Figures, the place just opened in April. Here’s a tip - if using Google map, copy paste the address in Japanese and viola!!! Google will take you there. Or, after the post office and bus stop - turn right and you will see the school on your right side. You will see a road to your right then just walk through.
Food is great, I had to skip on the ramen because host generously gave me 2 bowls of rice (which I requested).

nutritious Chanko-nabe to fill up my appetite and truly enjoy the delicious meal. We enjoy our time chatting together the whole. The room with tatami floor was spacious and have a good night sleep to start the day. The breakfast and lunch pack were great too

Nice guesthouse
We stayed here on the first night of our Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Sadly we did not get to meet the hosts at this time as they were away for a few days. Another man (a neighbour) stopped by briefly to make sure we had what we needed. Beautiful room, good AC. We wished there was more to the "shared kitchen" other than a microwave and fridge.

猛暑のなか、滝尻王子からの中辺路１５キロを歩き、夕方遅くに到着しました。
こじんまりとしたお宿は清潔で、プライバシーが保たれています。
夕食は丁寧に作られた家庭料理で、野菜たっぷりの健康メニューでした。
オーナーのご夫婦はとっても気さくで、色々お話できてとても楽しかったです。

Nice hosts and a very convenient stay!
Very helpful host, explaining wverything and providing help for bus timetables etc. The room had all needed and the food was very noce, specially dinner was really good, we shared the experience with 2 more hosts from the UK and we had a nice evening to remember with our hosts and chefs always supporting and very servicial.
PS: The only con I would put is that was hard for us to locate it, we took like 30 min under a hot Japanese sun. goole location does not showed it correctly and also can not find it . To find it just check for some little "G" marka after crossing the bridge once arrived at Chikatsuyu, it is near the school.

Truly wonderful stop over with such gorgeous hosts!
We arrived around 6pm and were so happy to be welcomed with the most friendly and happy hosts. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view out the doors. The hosts were so wonderfully friendly and made sure we were looked after with a fabulous dinner, breakfast and packed lunch.
