 Description

Italian Cuisine in a Rural Farmhouse

Kumano Winery Guest House is a true country homestay with an authentic Italian culinary feast located about 20 minutes walk from Nejiki-no-Sugi along the Shiomi-toge route of the Kumano Kodo.

Chickens and goats are kept in pens near the entrance of this 90-year-old home renovated for a bucolic stay, with a nearby wine vineyard. Guests are captivated by the fresh air, natural countryside, fantastic view of Tanabe Bay. There is no TV.
And the owners grow their own vegetables for their Verona-style meals.

Giovanni dal Bosco, (known affectionately as “Da-ru”) came to Japan in 2013, and after years working in Kyoto, ran his own local Italian restaurant, creating his own balsamic vinegar with homegrown ingredients and branded his own wine. In September 2019, the couple opened their "dream guest house" just perfect for Kumano travelers to get away from their busy life.

"Dal Chef's Table," the restaurant at the guest house, was listed in The Michelin Guide in 2022.
