 Description

Rural Organic Farm-stay

Madre Tierra, literally "Mother Earth" in Spanish, is a traditional, rustic, Japanese rural country guesthouse stay located in Irokawa, in the Kosaka settlement of Nachi, about 30 minutes drive from the Nachisan shrine-temple-waterfall complex. It is steeped in the organic farming culture, surrounded by a scenic natural landscape, with a starry sky on a clear night. There are two Japanese-style guestrooms for up to 7 people. Supper and breakfast, and breakfast only, plans are available. Meals are a communal experience, made together with the owners, and guests kindly asked to help with the cleanup. The owners use sustainable systems like composting toilets, solar water heaters and organic farming to operate the guesthouse. Transport to and from the Nachisan area is possible. Traditional bancha roasted green tea-making lessons are offered in May. This is a recommended stay for Kumano Kodo hikers who want to disconnect from the modern world and re-connect more deeply with nature at the end of their pilgrimage.
