※ Sorry, NO SINGLE OCCUPANCY accepted from 28th December to 3rd January.

※Note:
The onsen hot spring baths at Hotel Urashima are unavailable when the hotel is closed. Thank you for your understanding.

The building was a little old but the room was clean and comfortable. Our room had a beautiful view of the inlet where the fishing boats came in and out and the little ferry boat that went over to the other hotel. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the service felt very special.

Excellent place

Perfect location. Good onsen. We had a 4th floor room with a stunning sea view. Outstanding kaiseki supper. We really wish we'd stayed two nights, and been able to go to the sea cave onsen and check out more things in Kii Katsuura.

Manseiro Ryokan, charming stay right on the water.

Mainseiro Ryokan was a welcome stay after a long day of hiking. There is an onsite onsen as well as the option to take a ferry over to the hotel across the bay for an onsen in a cave - which I didn't take advantage of. Dinner was provided in the hotels restaurant with an optional drink menu. Dinner & breakfast were both elaborate, multi-course, fresh, and delicious. There was coffee, tea, and water provided in the room. The room provided all that I needed, including a nice view. The beds were traditional floor mats and very comfortable. They Ryokan is walking distance to bus station if you're bussing to your next stop making it extra convenient.

Delicious meals, friendly service, beautiful accommodations

We were very happy to stay at Manseiro Ryokan on our fourth day of Kumano Kodo travel. The food was so amazing and delicious, the hot springs very soothing, their reception and service outstanding, and the accommodations spacious.

An elevated stay at the end of our trip

Most of our trip included stays in guesthouses, so this was a nice treat at the end of our hike. We spent two nights here to take in the sites, and visit both Kumano Hayatama Taisha and Kumano Naichi Taisha, both accessible by public transit. The meals were fantastic and full of local flavour. The onsen had both indoor and outdoor baths, as well as access across the bay- which we did not take advantage of. We found the ones at the Ryokan quiet and expected the ones at the other location to be busier. The shuttle comes very regularly, that was another concern of ours regarding getting to the other location, but saw the ferry come every 20-30 minutes or so.

Oldie but Goodie

Dated traditional ryokan on the bay of Kii Katsuura within walking distance from the station and with free ferry to amazing cave onsen at Urashima. Onsen at Manseiro also nice. Guestroom would benefit from some minor updates. Kaiseki meals were local and delicious. Service varied by night. Welcoming and wonderful server night one, rushed and distant server night two. Traditional front-desk hospitality reminiscent of how things used to be across Japan before over-tourism. Stay late enough to enjoy breakfast, we missed our meal due to our early departure for home.

Amazing stay

Great location, close to the train station and walking distant to stores and restaurants in the area. Didn't have to wait for the boat to get to the main town. Unlike the big hotels, Mansiero was quiet and is a traditional Ryokan experience. The food was great and the service was prompt. Having access to the cave onsen was fabulous, a must-do experience! We stayed an extra night here before we headed back to Haneda. Great way to relax and reflect on the Kumano Kodo trek experience. The vibe of Katsuura is exactly how you want to experience a traditional Japanese fishing village.

Expensive, but so worth it!

Free experience at Urashima's onsen and that alone made the stay so, so much more worth it. Though, be warned, as the price of stay is definitely very high. Nevertheless, the service was top notch - concierge took the time to slowly explain the check in process (in spite of language limitations) and even accommodated for my trip to Urashima to try their onsen. Beyond that, the food was amazing, and I felt like I was being treated like a king.

Modernish hotel facing the port, good location. Provides yukata to enjoy good onsite onsen and for dinner in dining room. Dinner was over the top. Could not finish it. Included sashimi, abalone and Wagyu! Anither meal that will not be forgotten. Wish I had know to arrive earlier to be able to take the ferry to the cave onsen. Very kind staff.

Decent Ryokan in Kii-Katsuura

The Ryokan is less than 10min away from the JR station and next to the port of Kii-Katsuura. The room was spacious but had a strong smell of humidity. The baths were just OK, specially when compared to others we had visited. Regarding the food, it was decent enough. Staff were friendly and kept our luggage next day while we walked up to Nachi. Overall, decent place for a one night stay, but would probably check a different place if again in the area.

Well taken care of in Kii-Katsuura

This Ryokan is well positioned near the harbor and the tuna market. It is about a 7min walk from the train/bus station. This was manageable and not hard to find. Our standard room was spacious and very comfortable. Dinner was generous and delicious - we had to pick a specific time that we would come to eat. A special mention needs to be made for the reception staff. We had run low on cash and they tried their utmost best to help us - this included driving us to a Lawson shop in the evening, to use a bank machine! This was over and above what we expected. We so appreciate it. They have an onsen on their premises which meant we showered there rather then use the shower in our room. Overall a wonderful stay in the last accommodation for our Kumano Kodo trip.

Delightful traditional ryokan hotel

The two nights spent at Manseiro Ryokan were a delight. The hotel is an older style traditional ryokan, and the very spacious and comfortable accomodation overlooked the water. Dinner & breakfast were outstanding, served in private areas, with wait staff providing helpful instructions. The on-site onsen was cmist relaxing.

A nod to Traditional Japanese yesteryear

We really enjoyed this old-timey, traditional Japanese Ryokan. We felt like we were stepping back in time. The restaurant was nice and understood and accommodated my husband’s vegan diet. The reception staff were kind and the restaurant staff worked hard to ensure we had what we needed. The on-site onsen was nice, though there were some mosquitoes (who love me) which shortened my bathing experience.

Solid spot

Manseiro is likely the best choice in sleepy Kii Katsuura. The rooms are serviceable and clean, with good a/c or heat , and one can open the windows for fresh air or to look out over the bay, The trip on the Turtle Boat to Cave Onsen resort is not to be missed- a window into onsen culture that was fascinating to us Americans. The dinner and breakfast were both extensive and delicious and most appreciated after a big day hiking! We got up early the next AM and went to the fish auction at the port which was very cool - fun being the only onlookers! An evening and a morning was perfect as the town is small. A good idea if you need train tickets is to go before 5 pm the night before and buy them as there is only one woman at the ticket window and she gets very busy indeed in the AM taking care of folks. She was super helpful providing assistance to us for our train to Nagoya and transfer to the Shinkansen for Tokyo.

Everything was exceptional from the moment I checked in until the minute I left. I was told before hand I may not be able to stay in a Japanese style room but in the end I was given an ocean view Japanese tatami room. Food was not only presentable but also delicious. I was traveling solo but the staff took their time to explain i.e. what the dishes were, how I was supposed to eat/cook the dishes etc. Best ryokan experience so far so thank you.

Best Meal at Ryokan

This ryokan was very special and a beautiful way to end our journey. The abalone was like lobster so buttery and delicious. Everything was top notch and we really enjoyed the onsen as well.

Right on the sea

This is a hotel. The room was fine though we would have liked a room facing the sea. The service was very good. The meal was amazing, one of the best we had in Japan. The best part of all was that you can use the onsen at the large resort on the other side of the bay. You take a small ferry over there (five minute trip). It's a huge place. But the onsen there is very large with many pools. And it is in a cave that opens to the ocean. We sat in the hot water, gazing out at the sea with the waves crashing in front of us and the full moon rising and shining on the sea. It was a spectacular way to end our trip.

Great way to finish the trek. The meals were amazing. The baths here and at Urashima were lovely. Taking the turtle ferry across the bay to Urashima would be worth the trip even without the cave onsen. The rooms were comfortable with views of the bay.

This was a relaxing end to our Kumano Kodo journey and we only had a one night stay. We loved that Kii Katsuura is a small town built around fishing and the hotel location put us right at the centre of the seafaring comings and goings and not far from the station. Our room had a great view over the harbour. We enjoyed a visit to the famous cave onsen of sister hotel Urashima (a quick ferry trip from the Manseiro doorstep - we didn't try the Manseiro baths), visited the tuna market, watched fishers repairing their nets and took a cruise boat out around the islands out from the mouth of the harbour. Food was very good.

Best of Both Worlds

This is a medium hotel that is pretty formal. The staff were incredibly helpful even without speaking English well. You get the best of everything as you get access to the cave onsens at the large hotel across the water but without having to deal with the mega hotel - SO MANY PEOPLE OVER THERE! Take the ferry early in the afternoon when the onsens open and beat the after checkin rush.

Best experience our entire trip!

Food - best meal on the entire trip. Generous servings of sashimi, highest quality of ingredients and best service all around. Rooms - biggest room on the trip with beautiful view of the bay. Onsen - We took a trip over to the other hotel for the cave onsen. Definitely worth it! The staff at both hotels were warm, friendly, and very accommodating. Our favourite onsen experience of our trip. Also went down to the onsen in the hotel in the morning, which was also really nice but a little busier.

Solid rooms, solid baths, mediocre food

Manseiro Ryokan is a great opportunity to experience a ryokan for those who would not want to pay typical ryokan prices in a big city. Guests have access to the luxurious baths at Hotel Urashima which is accessible from Manseiro Ryokan by a short ferry. Guests who are used to the ryokan experience in Kyoto or Tokyo however should note that Mansiero Ryokan provides a much more rural experience. The ryokan is clean, although not luxurious. The food is fine, although not at the same quality as what would be found in a higher-end ryokan.

Top-notch meals; free access to onsen at Urashima

Spacious rooms and comfortable futons. Meals were the best of the entire trip - very elaborate, fresh produce. Definitely a plus to get free access to the famous cave onsens at sister hotel Urashima - can be accessed via boat (pier just across the street from Manseiro - check the schedules). Wish the boats could start a bit earlier though; we walked to Urashima because first boat runs at 7am (around 15-20min walk - basically no signage so wouldn't recommend walking). Staff spoke basic English.

Nice retreat at the end of our pilgrimage

Manseiro Ryokan was a nice retreat at the end of our pilgrimage. The city of Kii Katsuura is a quiet town with not much happening while we were there. For the price we paid, we were hoping for a fantastic experience at this Ryokan. What we experienced was good but not fantastic. Though the food (included in the price) was fantastic.

Really nice stay at manseiro. Very little English spoken but it didn't matter. Really really great meals with wonderfully fresh seafood- straight from the market - and huge. We used the hotel urashima cave onsen- part of the package for manseiro ryoken. Fabulous view over the sea.

Japanese Top Level of service

This Ryokan is a must see if you want to experience the Japanese TOP level of service. Everything was absolutely perfect : the meals were amazing and I discovered tastes I had never tried before ! The free access to Urashima Onsen made my day become a dream ! I have no worlds to describe how wonderful it was. The arrival on the private island by boat was impressive, and I felt like the president when the staff welcomed me :) Wow !

Last night Kumano Kodo

Room was really good, clean and good size. I never used the bath facilities. The evening meal was amazingly great - so much food - delicious. Breakfast more food - so much again. Reception and service was very good, only a four as I was probably use to the individual service on the previous 4 days. Location great, walking distance to station. The hotel itself is a little dated, but the staff, food and cleanliness made up for this. I would stay again just for the food.

Great location and view, wonderful baths

A very convenient and short walk from the station. We got the rooms with ocean view, which was definitely worth it! Dinner was delicious. Also, staying at this ryokan also gives you access to the baths at Hotel Urashima, which are very unique - the baths are in a cave with a sea view! Definitely recommend.

Great way to finish a Kumano Kodo hike

We wanted to finish our Kumano Kodo experience somewhere a little fancier than our previous lodgings (which although in the low-budget end had all already exceeded our expectations), and Manseiro Ryokan did not deceive at all. Service is impeccable, our room (Japanese-style) was spacious and beautiful and oversaw the Katsuura bay, and the onsen baths at the facility are fantastic. The food was outstanding, we had one of the most memorable dinners in our whole trip to Japan. Highly recommended.

Great Ryokan

The Ryokan is located in the harbour with a nice view out onto the islands and the ocean. It has its own onsen but there is a free ferry just in front of the Ryokan that brings you over to one of the peninsulas shielding the harbour. In there are many restaurants, several hotels, and several onsens that can all be used for free. And some of them were among the most amazing onsens I have visited! Even my Japanese friends were impressed. However, at the ryokan nobody spoke English, but maybe just because I started the communication in Japanese...

Our favourite - the best

Stay here! Huge, sparkling clean room (the largest room I've ever had on >10 visits to Japan - it was more like an apartment). Super friendly and enthusiastic staff. Crazy good food. Staying here gives you access the bonkers hot spring hotel on a nearby island, although the ryokan facilities themselves are really nice). We absolutely loved this place.
