Kohechi Lodging
The welcoming Minshuku Kawarabiso is located on its own on the banks of the beautiful Kawarabi-gawa river, which it draws its name from. It is a family run business so you may see the whole family helping at times. It also serves at the local restaurant. This facility used to be a fish farm for Amago, the red-spotted masu salmon, a highly prized delicacy. This fish is endemic to Japan and only lives in the cleanest rivers. You can still see the large cement cisterns nearby. Meals often feature Amago and other wild meats. Minshuku Kawarabiso is a 20 minute walk, or short drive, from the trailhead of the Kumano Kodo, Kohechi section; Obakotoge-pass to the south and Koyasan to the north. Please relax and enjoy the down-to-earth mountain hospitality.

小辺路歩きに最高な宿です
他の方々のポジティブなコメントに同意です。サービスとお料理は本当に素晴らしく、貸していただいた自転車でゆっくり景色を楽しみながら近くの温泉へ行くことができました。お部屋もとてもきれいで、洗濯機も利用でき、さらに部屋にはたくさんのハンガーを用意していただいており、登山客への配慮が隅々まで感じられました。本当にありがとうございました。

Comfortable and friendly place with good food
Very nice people run this place who really did their best to make our stay pleasant. Comfortable room and clean toilet and washing facilities. Very good food, we enjoyed all meals very much including the lunchbox. It was nice to get a discount for the onsen just down the road. It is not so close to the start of the walk, but our kind host took us there by car. We were very grateful because it was raining very hard!

A traditional Japanese bed and breakfast with such a good food
It was very nice to spend a night in my own room after sharing it for so long in hostels. It was a very comfy tatami room with shared toilet and shower, but still very nice because everything was clean and tidy and there was space for everybody. But the thing I liked the most of this traditional Japanese bed and breakfast was the food. The food was very abundant and made with fresh ingredients and so much love. The couple running this place might not speak English so much but they care about the satisfaction of their guest. You might walk a little bit extra to arrive there but it is a lovely place, seriously.

宿の前は山が紅葉してました。
熊野古道小辺路のルートから約２ｋｍほど離れます。小辺路と宿への車道の間にもつひとつ道があり、一度間違えてしまいました。宿への道は下りでよかったですが、翌日ルートに戻るのは上りになるので、宿のご主人に道など相談したら、ルートまで送っていただき大変助かりました。お風呂については、宿のお風呂にははいらず、野迫川温泉に入りましたので、そちらの評価になります。夕ご飯も私には味、量とも十分でした。

Cosy hospitality and great food
Wonderful minshuku to get to after the hard climb over the mountain. They offered to take me to Hotel Nosegawa for an onsen bath which was great. Food was absolutely delicious and facilities were spotless. The couple who run the minshuku were so kind. Highly recommended.

First night kohechi accommodation
Super location, friendly owners, lent us bikes for a ride to a (discounted) onsen which was superb. Definitely worth a stay. Top food, as we have found at all accommodation along the Kohechi!

The owner is a true gentleman and very attentive. The accommodation is private and very generous room. The food was a delight because it was different from all the other standard minshuku fairs, it was delicious! He can also drive you to the nearby onsen hotel for a soak, please accept the offer! It’s worth a visit especially after a day’s walk.

Wonderful place
This minshuku is located a little off the trail but they offer pick up and drop off to the trail for the hikers. They let us use their bicycle to go to the small onsen hotel near them for a discounted price. Getting into the onsen after a long day of hiking was exactly what we needed. The meals they provided were deliciously handmade.

One of the best at Kunano Kodo
A small hotel in a valley and with a quiet and nice spot on the river. They are extremely friendly and you can take bikes for free to get to the onsen near beside. Free tea and water for the guests. The are helping with good tips how o eat the special.meal. great!!!!

Incredibly friendly hosts and delicious meals
The guestroom was really cozy and even had a rack to dry our wet clothes after a rainy hike to Omata. It was no issue that the accommodation isn’t in Omata itself as our super friendly host picked us up by car. Overhearing that we were thinking of walking to the onsen in the next village she even offered to drive us there which made our day! When we sat down for dinner, we were greeted by an amazing hot pot full of nutritious vegetables and meat! The breakfast and lunch box were equally delicious! Thank you so much!

Such a nice owner!
We arrived at the minshuku soaked from 7 hours walking under the rain and the owner drove us directly to the nearby onsen to warm us up. She made us a fabulous hot pot with lots of different kind of mushrooms, vegetables and tofu in a great soup stock and we were as happy as could be! Thank you for taking such good care of us!

My favourite place that I stayed along the Kumano Kodo. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, spacious, and fresh. The food was delicious, the owners were so kind to us, and we especially appreciated the use of the bikes and being able to cycle along the river. It was such a lovely location by the waterfall and the perfect place for the last night on our trip (we were walking south to north). I wish that I could have stayed another day.

Wonderful home-stay
Kawarabi-so was where we spent our first night on Kumano Kodo. We were so happy to be met with very warm hospitality from the owners, who explained everything clearly and calmly. The food was delicious and fulfilling, as me and my partner are vegetarians, we were happy that we could eat local vegetables and fish! Our room was warm and comfortable. Great meal, good service, located by a beautiful river.
Our host went out of her way to take us to an Onsen at the hotel down the road before it closed in half an hour, even though she was busy preparing dinner for the guests. Food was great, our host created a second meal with the broth left in our pot which was delicious, plus a bonus sorbet and tea. Much appreciated after a hard days walking.

Overly well-done for a simple guest house
Room is spacious for 2, clean and comfortable. Owner is able to speak simple English, I find it cute 🤭 This is our first night for our kohechi hike, the owner does provide pick up service to his guesthouse but we choose to walk down. Next day, the owner send us to the trail head as well (FOC). They provide great dinner and breakfast which is perfect for hiker who just ended or start the hike. Also, osen discount coupon provided for guests. Owner can send you to the osen or you can cycling there which is just 1km away.

I enjoyed my stay here; great location by the river.
I felt very welcomed here and slept well in a clean room. All meals were well prepared and delicious. Great location next to a beautiful river. I used the onsen at the nearby Hotel Nosegawa which I would recommend also doing. There are free bikes at Kawarabi-so to ride up the valley 1km or so to Hotel Nosegawa. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Lovely home cooked meal
Second time I stayed here. Wonderfully located on the Kumano Kodo track, this place has all the basic needs you require for a safe passage. It was very nice to find it after a day in the wind and snow. The room is very plain, the service is pleasant, but the amenities are a little lack lustre. It's rural comfort... cold water, cold rooms, but warm heart. Food was simple, but surprisingly good. A hot pot that just kept on giving with each addition. Breakfast was again, simple, but met the necessary requirements. The host is quiet, but nice. Little English spoken, so try your best.

2回目の熊野古道小辺路を歩きました。
今回、2020年以来2年ぶりに熊野古道小辺路を歩きました。紅葉真っ盛りの渓流沿いの宿・・・懐かしかったです。おかげさまで11月12日（土）の午後、目的地の熊野本宮大社に到着しました。今回も温かな料理とお心遣いをありがとうございました。

best stay on Kohechi trail
there’s clear sign on intersection which directs you to the guesthouse, a detour in 2km but with gradual descent on paved road, and the owner can drive you to a great onsen nearby and to next trail starting point on the next day. Dinner is so delicious with hot pot and other courses even desert.

Warm and friendly home in beautiful valley

親切なご主人
小辺路の登山口から少し離れていますが徒歩圏内、連絡すれば迎えにも来てもらえるようだし、日帰り温泉まで送迎してくれたりもしました、部屋数もそれなりにあるので、宿の取りづらい小辺路にあって貴重なお宿だと思いました。

Perfectly organized Minshuku
A great place with extremely nice and helpful owners. The minshuku is located a little bit off the Kohechi route but the pick up worked very smoothly and we were picked up some minutes after our call and brought back to the same spot in the morning. The owners also drove us to a close by Onsen and the food was just delicious!

Lovely minshuku!
Very nice minshuku on the Kumano Kodo Kohechi trail! Lovely welcome, very hospitable owners and delicious food. We received a discount to the onsen baths at Hotel Nosegawa located about 1km further away. We even got bikes from the owners of Minshuku Kawarabi-so to go there! Great experience, thank you!

熱心的老闆娘
我們離開前一晚的南院,不小心遺留了二個衣物,因語言不通,無法好好跟南院師父溝通, 感謝老闆娘熱心的幫忙溝通,讓我們傍晚可以拿到忘了拿的衣物, 晚上老闆也不嫌麻煩的一直幫我們煮食，真的十分喜歡這對熱情的夫妻,同伴說他下回還要帶家人來。

Overall a very nice place, clean, tidy and comfortable. The owners/staff where very friendly and helpful, they drove us to the onsen up the road and picked us up afterwards. The following morning they drove us to the trail head of the next section. Food was excellent.

Excellent spot after first section of Kohechi. Owners are efficient in the best way. There's a small bath onsite, but they offer a discount ticket to the onsen a kilometre's stroll away - and thoughtfully provide bikes or casual Croc-like walking shoes, so it doesn't feel like an extension of the day's climb. The walk is along a river that can be swum in as well. Room well-appointed. Food was generous, thoughtful and delicious.

The family who runs this Minshuku is truly amazing. I was experiencing a specific monthly problem by the time I arrived. Upon communicating this, he called his wife and told me to wait for a few minutes. She then came on scooter to help solve this problem instantly. They were both so gracious and helpful and truly saved my hike. I loved sitting around after dinner talking and was sad to leave such a warm and welcoming place.

Guesthouse in Omata
Once we arrived in town, we used the pay phone to call the accommodation. They came to pick us up at the bus stop and drove us to town. There was an onsen available for 600 yen. You can take bikes about 3 minutes down the road to the onsen. The bike ride itself was peaceful and beautiful, highly recommend taking the bikes for a quick ride if you're staying here. The owners were very hospitable and the food was delicious. I am vegetarian, and they were able to accommodate this which was greatly appreciated.

Great guesthouse with nearby onsen
We did not expect to find much in this remote location. So we were thrilled to be taken to a nearby onsen by our host soon after arriving. After soaking in the hot bath we returned to the guesthouse to enjoy a truly lavish meal of hotpot. Breakfast was generous and tasty. This is another outstanding guesthouse on the Kumano Kodo. Recommended

A great stay at a fun inn
We arrived after a rainy hiking day and were happy that the guest rooms have a clothes line with hangers provided. There was also newspaper to put in wet hiking shoes. The staff were so kind to us. We loved staying here. They gave us a ride to, and picked us up from, the nearby onsen at Hotel Nosegawa, which has a lovely onsen facility for an affordable rate. The dinner and breakfast at Minshuku Karawabi-so were both delicious.

小辺路踏破の旅（1日目宿泊先）
キャンプ場も併設している宿泊先でした。自転車を無料で貸してくれたため、野迫川温泉にも行くことができました。こちらの施設で入浴する場合は、シャワーのみとなります。ごはんは、夜も朝も豪華でした。大股登山口からの送迎もしてくれるので、ありがたかったです。

Perfect rest spot on the Kohechi

Lovely place!

Very pleasant place!
Extremely nice couple running a great inn. There is no onsen on site, but a nearby hotel has a large public bath and this inn will give you a coupon to go visit. The meals were delicious and included fish caught from the river outside. Highly recommend.

Rural comfort
Wonderfully located on the Kumano Kodo track, this place has all the basic needs you require for a safe passage. It was very nice to find it after a day in the wind and snow. The room is very plain, the service is pleasant, but the amenities are a little lack lustre. It's rural comfort... cold water, cold rooms, but warm heart. Food was simple, but surprisingly good. A hot pot that just kept on giving with each addition. Breakfast was again, simple, but met the necessary requirements. The host is quiet, but nice. Little English spoken, so try your best. I was not able to find any towels, so I used my own. I'm sure that was more of a communication issue. There is an onsen near by... no tattoos (standard).

Warm and kind
The first day of our trip from Koyasan to Omata was cold and exhausting. But the owners of Kawarabi-so were very kind. They came to the but stop to pick us up soon after we called. The meals were simple but delicious, as well as the lunch box, exactly what we needed after the hike. The room and toilets were clean. I didn’t use the bath because I was too tired that I fell asleep soon after the dinner. I enjoyed staying in Kawarabi-so a lot and recommend it to anyone taking the trip in Kohechi.

Minshuku Kawarabi-so was incredible. I was so impressed by the service, the comfort and ease of the whole stay. From calling at the payphone, to arriving and finding our rooms, to the incredibly delicious meals for dinner, breakfast and the lunch pack...there is nowhere to fault. I loved my stay! The family were beautiful. The location is not far if you wanted to keep walking from town and it is easy to find the trailhead on the next walking day. It was quiet, I felt safe and very comfortable. There was good heating and racks to dry your clothes.

Peaceful setting
The accommodation was pretty basic but had everything we needed. The river across the road was stunning. No onsen but a good shower. Plenty of food, the owner was a hunter so we had a little wild boar. Pick up and drop off between the accommodation & trailhead was an absolute necessity - not a walk you want to do after a long day on the trail. Owners very friendly.

Welcoming stay
The stay at Minshuku Kuwarabi-so was great. The location and guestroom are essential, but we were lucky to have a room all for ourselves. The host is very kind and the dinner + breakfast are great. We also had the lunch box for the day after that, which was superb! The stay includes a discount for a nearby onsen that can be reached with the free-to-use bike at the minshuku. The day we stayed was rainy so we could not enjoy the surrounding but the place is close to a really nice river and grass fields.

全く文句ありません。ご主人は歩く誠実。気配りのできる素晴らしい方です。お母様は（女将）はお優しく、楽しい時間をいただきました。夕食は夏に鍋！？と最初は思いましたがさっぱりしたぼたん鍋。疲れた胃に優しくて本当に美味しかった。長い夕食タイムのあとにホタルを見せに車を出していただきました。ホタルの乱舞もですが、その気持に嬉しくて涙がこぼれそうでした。ありがとうございました。

This place feels like between a hotel and a minshuku. Many individual rooms. I don't have anything good or bad to say. It just feels less authentic than the Yamamotos. I didn't have any expectation going in tho. They didn't have a bath though so I had walk another km to go to Hotel Nosegawa.

Clean nice place to stay
I must admit I was a bit unsure how it was going to work out as it was the only place we stayed on our extended Kumano Kodo hike that was not in walking distance from the trail. We needed to call the minshuku for a ride and it turned out to be a non-issue, very easy and 5 - 10 min after we called the owner picked us up and drove to the place. Very clean and bright, the food is great, and it's a short walking distance to another hotel with onsen.

Wonderful experience and stayed!
My stay at Minshuku Kawarabi-so was wonderful. The minshuku is right in front of the river and super close to Omata town. It offers stunning views of the surrounding forests and valleys. The traditional Japanese accommodation was cozy and comfortable, and the meals were absolutely delicious, featuring locally-sourced ingredients and traditional Japanese cuisine. We had wild boark shabu-shabu and it was delcious. The hot springs bath was also a highlight, providing the perfect way to relax and unwind after a day of hiking on the Kohechi trail. What really made my stay special, however, was the hospitality and warmth of the staff at Minshuku Kawarabi-so. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, offering helpful tips and insights into the local area and making sure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. They picked us form the trail head and lend us bikes to use around the town! Overall, I would highly recommend Minshuku Kawarabi-so to anyone who is hiking the Kohechi trail or looking for a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Kii mountains. It was great!

Minshuku by the river
This minshuku is a bit of a walk out of Omata village center (~20 mins). I tried to take a more direct path from the Kohechi trail, but the trail signs mislead me so I ended up hiking to Omata then taking the paved car road to Kawarabi-so. The place is run by an obachan and her son (I think). They were so lovely and spoke simple Japanese so I could understand. The dinner was a huge nabe fest! They'll let you borrow a bike in order to ride to the local onsen hotel (about 3 mins) for a soak (don't forget your towel - no one ever reminded me). I don't think Kawarabi-so has a bath, but there are showers. It was a lovely one night stay.

Nice relaxing spot by the river
I liked the location a lot, despite being a little ways off the trail. It is easily made up by taking the road on the south side (if traveling south then it would be your exit in the morning, if traveling north it would be your entry for the night). The wild boar hot pot (botannabe) was great, and finished with putting the rice in the sauce to absorb the flavors and cooking into a semi dry rice pudding. Oishi desu.

小辺路1泊目で利用しました。
ご主人をはじめ、宿の方々のおもてなしとサービスがとても素晴らしかったです。 近くの温泉が断水により入れず、宿のお風呂を利用しました。 シャワーがひとつしかないのでひとりずつ入らせていただきましたが、待っている人がいると思うとゆっくり入れなかったことだけが残念でした。

部屋は広く清潔でいいのですが、隣室や階上の音、廊下や階段を歩く音、トイレのドアを閉めるバタンという大きな音が筒抜けです。深夜に騒ぐ人がいなかったのは幸いでした。料理は季節外れの冷凍物のぼたん鍋でした。場所柄、ぼたん鍋を出したい気持ちはわかりますが、冷凍物特有のニオイが鼻につき、肉も薄切りで味もなく、ぼたん鍋として味わうことはできません。猟期外に無理して出す必要は無いと感じました。アマゴの塩焼きは養殖物なのは仕方ありませんが、それならそれでもっと大きなものを用意するべきです。小さすぎて味もわかりません。朝、登山口まで車で送っていただけたのは助かりました。また、スマホの充電ケーブルを貸していただけたのも有難かったです。

Everything great but for one thing
This place was really cool. It was comfortable and had a real country living vibe to it. The staff were lovely. The only let down was the old grandma of the family. She was out-and-out rude. Its a pity because everything else was really great.

自転車借りて温泉♨️最高です
小辺路を歩く旅の１泊目でお世話になりました。近くに温泉があるとのことで、自転車をお借りして向かいました。川沿いの気持ちのいい景色のなか、阿弥陀堂や、古い民家などを眺めながらのサイクリング、温泉のお湯も素晴らしく、素敵な経験でした。お布団もふかふかでよく眠れました。ありがとうございました。

清流が目の前の閑静な民宿
高野山から小辺路歩きの２軒目の宿でした。 民宿にお風呂はついていますが、チェックインするとすぐに近くの温泉まで送迎していただけました。温泉のロビーではアイスクリームやキンキンに冷えたお水をいただけたので８月の灼熱のなか１日歩きっぱなしで疲れた身体をリフレッシュするのに最高でした。洗濯機２台と洗剤が下の階にあり、貸していただけるので汗だくになった服を洗濯しながら晩ご飯の時間まで目の前の川で涼んで過ごしました。 晩ご飯は山で捕れた猪鍋と川で釣れるアマゴをいただきました。どちらもとても美味しくボリュームたっぷりで満足でした。 朝晩は涼しい風とヒグラシの鳴き声、川のせせらぎを聞きながらゆっくり過ごすことができ、夏休みを過ごしたような気分になれました。翌朝は登山口まで送迎していただき、いいスタートを切ることができました。 また機会があればここで過ごすためだけに戻ってきたいくらいです。

Super Supper!
The minshuku is more of a ryoukan at this stage, as the house has been used exclusively for guests and the owners stay elsewhere. The food was amazing, the hotel up the road also had an onsen. I slept great.

Hotpot dinner on a cold night
The place a is quite far off the trailhead but they picked us up from the pay phone/bus stop. Dinner was an awesome wild boar meat hotpot with grilled locally caught river fish. Room was spacious and comfortable. The nearest Onsen was 1km away but we could use their bikes to get there in 5min. Not much else to do but soak, eat and rest to be ready for the next day’s walk. Breakfast and Packed lunch were also really good.

Wonderful Wild Boar Steamboat and delicious meal after first day of walking Kohechi!
Delicious wild boar steamboat at Minshuku Kawarabi-so was perfect after a long day of walking on the Kohechi route. The place was a little hard to get to as the usual road leading to it was closed from the trail. Hosts were very welcoming and offered us discount coupons at a nearby Onsen which we borrowed bicycles to cycle to.

Hidden gem a bit outside of the trail
The minshuku is a bit afar of the trail, so make sure to check how to arrive there. By staying on the road (for cars, but with very little traffic) you're sure to find it (otherwise just ask the locals). The main reason to go there is the dinner, as we had wild boar hot pot hunted by the owner, and freshly fished river red-spotted salmon. Delicious !

A new place offering a very warm welcome. We had great pleasure in swimming in the river and then plunging into the onsen, and back again! ( Despite being warned the river would be too cold, this was not the case!). Food was fantastic.

Has seen better times...
The people running this place are nice but not as hostile as one could be getting used to in Japan... the hotpot was very good but overall the food couldn’t compete with the other Minshukus! Especially the lunchbox was almost only rice... There is no Onsen and you would pay entrance in another indoor-Onsen down the road so we put water in the old hot tub and had a swim in the lovely river which was really great! As all accommodations have pretty much the same price I think some competition would be good - there is room for improvement!

Beautiful surroundings
We were served a wonderful supper of wild boar hotpot. The accommodation is clean and tidy. The onsen is further away and would help if more bathrooms were available as we didn't use the onsen since we felt we would be sweaty again by the time we get back to the accommodation. Accommodation was very comfortable and owner was very helpful in picking us up from the bus stop and dropping us off at the trailhead the next morning.

Great first night on Kohechi Trail
Superb! From our collection at trailhead (in a limousine style minivan) to our return transport to trail the following morning, this was a wonderful experience. At no extra cost, we were offered transport to a nearby onsen once we had checked in and were picked up afterwards, just in time for a fantastic farmhouse-kitchen style dinner. Wild boar and locally-caught fish were on the menu. Very comfortable bedrooms in traditional Japanese style. Highly recommended.

Helpful hosts and great food

Friendly family stay
The Minshuku Kawarabi-so is not as elegant as some other accommodations I had along the Kohechi route. However, that is all made up by their exceptional hospitality. The old lady of the place took very good care if me. For dinner, they served the Amago she had caught herself that very morning. I enjoyed my time there very much!

Good spot after day one on Kohechi
This Minshuku was very comfortable and welcoming. The host arranged for us to visit the public onsen which was much appreciated after a long day of hiking. The meals were healthy and plentiful. Our only challenge was finding the Minshuku. Signage was poor, the main route was closed and we took a rough path down to the river area, crossing our fingers that we would find our way.

Very hospitable stay
The owners are very friendly and the meals are wonderful. For dinner, we had a delicious hot pot with fresh vegetables (shiitake!) and meat of wild boar. Our room was clean and comfortable. The accommodation is beautifully located on a river bank and it is very tranquil and peaceful.

Minshuku Kawarabi-so during Kohechi trail (Day 1)
The location is a bit troublesome as it is abuot 1.5 km from the Kohechi Trail. The biggest drawback is the lack of a bath or good shower. We decided to bicycle to the nearby Onsen which was a nice bonus and highly recommended. The food was good and in general a good experience.

Great food
Accommodation is part of a former fish restaurant and the owner definitely shows off his skills in the kitchen. The food was the best we had over our 6 day trek. The accommodation is on the basic/older side but it is kept clean and the family that run it are very friendly. They also offer free bikes to use to ride up the road to a nearby hotel that has an onsen. The area definitely has the feel of a place that used to have a large tourist industry that has dropped off in recent years. The accommodation is about 2km off the trail coming from Hongu and 1km back to the trail on the Koyasan side.

A bit overpriced
We stayed at Minshuku Kawarabi-so on the third day of our Kohechi hike mid September. It was OK, but the rooms are a bit run down, and the bath area a little dirty. Still, the owners were nice and the food was very good.

We arrived at Koyasan right before the typhoon the 22nd hit there. So we decided not to walk the Kohechi trail from Koyasan to Omata, respecting the advise from Muryokoin. They called Minshuku Kawarabi if they could drive us to the minshuku. And they provided us the ride. They welcomed us in the manner as we were their family.

Fishing Lodge Near Pretty Village
Walk to the nearby village to see old wooden houses and a shrine and to enjoy the riverside onsen. Appreciate some of the local photographers' photos of the stars and of mountain flowers. The hosts were kind and tried to be communicative and engaging.

Friendly Minshuku with great food
The location of the Minshuku is very beautiful, by a river, and the rooms are comfy and spacious. While there is no onsite onsen, the family kindly drive you to one in the town nearby and you are able to wash there before dinner. Dinner, breakfast and the bento box style lunch were delicious and there was plenty of food! While there was a bit of a language barrier this didn't cause us much of a problem as the owners were so friendly. In the morning they drove us to the beginning of the trail to start the next day's hike.

感想
大股バス停まで送迎して貰えるので良かったです。まずお風呂の評価なしは、宿の近くにある天然温泉へ行ったので宿のお風呂は利用していないからです。もちろん天然温泉迄宿の車で送迎して貰えますし、優待券も貰えるので、ついつい温泉へ行きました。お食事は美味しかったです！しし鍋はうどん、雑炊付きのボリューム満点、後コーヒーなどが自由に飲み放題のサービスもあり、洗濯機も自由に使わせて貰えそうな感じでした！かゆいところに手が届く感じでオススメです。

Very nice minshuku with good restaurant
I liked this minshuku very much. When I arrived I walked to the minshuku, although I could Phone from Omata bridge, because it was only a minutes walk. But next morning the owner was so kind to drive me to the trailhead. After my arrival they brought me to a nearby onsen, Nosegawa and picked me up again after bathing. The dinner was served in the restaurant, it was a hotpot and everything tasted very well. In the restaurant were local people gathering, it was quite interesting to have contact with the locals. They serve an excellent sake. The room was spatious and basic, but after the first day of Kohechi and the drinks I slept very well!

Great Minshuku in a cute sleepy town
Great little Minshuku in a wonderfully sleepy town. The onsen down the street (a very nice leisurely 20 minute walk away) was wonderful and had ice cream- something we had been craving from day 1 of our walk. The rooms were clean and functional, but walls were thin and there was no space other than our sleeping area. The hosts were lovely, picking us up from the trailhead. Perhaps the smallest dinner we were served on our trip, but it was delicious!

The best place where I stayed on the Kohechi trail, considering the price. Excellent hot pot for dinner. You can rest in the quiet, comfortable rooms. Along a pleasant river. Not much of a detour because you can take a direct shortcut from the ridge. You can arrive at any time, even earlier than 3 pm. There is no alternative here, and there are no shops.

Felt more like a small hotel than a minshuku
I arrived on a Friday night, and they may have been a bit busier than usual. I phoned when I arrived at the trailhead, and the host arrived in just a few minutes to pick me up and drive me back to the lodging. The place had a gritty sort of character that seemed appropriate for a lodge in a small town. The room was basic with no table and chairs, just a futon. It was adequately clean. I used the bath at Kawarabi-so rather than getting a ride to the onsen down the road. The bath was adequate and the water was plenty warm. There was no yukata or pajamas provided at this minshuku. That surprised me because most other places provided that. Dinner was in the restaurant and was a delicious hot pot. Food was plentiful. The hosts were friendly, but just busy, so I didn't interact with them much. I was traveling north on the Kohechi, so it was easy to pick up the trail by walking up the hill from the Minshuku.

Very nice experience
Even though we had a severe language limitations, my hosts at the Minshuku Kawarabiso were extremely helpful and polite. Food was very good. The facilities were clean and tidy. No shower though, have to go to the onsen close by.

1km離れた野迫川温泉日帰り入浴へ割引￥400で送迎してくれ、広い湯船で温泉堪能できました。翌朝も大股バス停へ送っていただいた。 猪鍋美味しくいただきましたし、奈良の地酒の熱燗も美味かった。 大股バス停の公衆電話から連絡すれば送迎もすること。トイレが新しくウオッシュレットであることも宿紹介欄に記載していただけるとよいでしょう。

高野山から歩く、1日目の宿として利用しました。 大股のバス停に着いて、電話をしたら迎えに来てくれますし、朝はバス停まで送っていただけます。 私たちは大股から歩きました。登りなので、迎えに来てもらったらよかったなぁと話しました。 夕飯は猪鍋でちょっとびっくり！ 一人前と2人前の量の差がわからず、ちょっと損した気分でした。 宿のおばあさんが、雑炊を強要しているのが面白かったです。 おべんとうが美味しかったです。

現在息子さんがメインでやってらっしゃるようですが、食事もとても美味しいです。翌日のお昼のお弁当をお願いしていたのですが、「男にぎり」のおにぎりがまたとても美味しく「美味い」と言いながら食べちゃいました。 設備やお部屋はあくまでも「登山」や「釣り」のお客さんが宿泊できる設備です。近くには温泉もあり、そこまでの送迎もしてくれます。インスタントコーヒーは自分たちでいつでも飲めるよう廊下に設置してくれています。設備の贅沢さを求める方には不向きかもしれませんが、一番のポイントは「お母さんの癒し」です。 お母さんはとてもキュートでチャーミングな笑顔の素敵な方です。お話をしていると心にポッと「ぬくもり」を感じられます。心身のリラクゼーションになります。都会で疲れている方には「お母さんの笑顔」と息子さんの「握飯」が癒しになると思います。

お迎えは頼みませんでしたが、宿泊翌日は登山口まで送っていただきました。 目の前の渓流で採れたてアマゴが美味しかった。 お風呂は近くのホテルの温泉に連れて行っていただきました。 接客も雰囲気も大変よく満足でしたが、同宿者が廊下（？）で吸うたばこの煙が朝方、部屋まで入ってきて咽ました。（他の宿では近くの部屋のベランダで吸われた煙草の煙で咽る、ということもありました。宿の廊下やベランダでの喫煙というのはいかがなものでしょうか…。）

Wonderful Sleep!
We enjoyed our stay here very much. Located by a lovely river with a swimming hole for a refreshing swim after our long day of hiking. It was clean and quiet, and the owners attentive and kind. The room with the toilet in it could use a spruce-up but compared with everything else, not a big deal. We were picked up promptly when we called at the end of the trail and happily delivered to a nearby onsen for a hot soak before dinner. All in all, we were very happy there.

Wonderful welcome by the son of the owner. We arrived there after one day of heavy rain & fog, very tired. The owner brought & picked us up with his own car to a nearby onsen, quickly we felt like newborn. Very good food ( & sake) and joking with the old lady was fun. Loved this from another time decoration in the restaurantroom. Good bentobox for the next daytrek! Absolutely happy

The minshuku is housed in a building that also serves as a restaurant for the area. The restaurant part of the minshuku is a little old looking, but it didn't really bother me. The owner is an elderly woman. She does not speak any english, like absolutely none. This posed a problem when I called from the Omata B.S. to be picked up after my hike. Someone came to pick me up, but after the call I really had no idea whether they would be coming (I was preparing to hike there when they arrived) or whether this was an inconvenience or not. The owner allowed me to use the laundry, which was much appreciated, and advised me to go to the Nosegawa Hotel Onsen. You get a discount, which is nice. I walked there. To be honest, I would not have wanted to stay at the hotel and was glad to have stayed at the Minshuku at this time of year. I think Nosegawa only had one guest staying there that night. Although the hotel was small, it still felt very empty and I don't like being in larger buildings by myself. One of her sons picked me up from the hotel and prepared the meals. He was very kind and helpful and we talked a bit about life (through the translation tool mostly) while watching TV. I appreciated the food (duck hot pot!) and his company!

気さくな家族経営の民宿で、心が和みます。山中でなかなかメールが通じなくて困っていたので、Wi-Fi無料サービスが大変ありがたかったです。食事もボリュームたっぷりで美味しかったです。近くの村営温泉は気持ちが良いです。

Friendly accommodation
The owner and her son run this friendly minshuku along the Kohechi trail. Those coming from Koyasan should take the winding public road down the mountain instead of using the Kohechi route at the end to avoid a tiring slog uphill from Oomata. Otherwise, please arrange for a transport at the Oomata rest area instead of walking the way up. The owner's son brought me to a nice onsen bath before dinner and it was fantastic after 7 hours out in the cold. Dinner was a heartwarming and delicious hotpot.

Minshuku Kawarabi-so
Excellent Minshuku run by a very friendly and helpful couple. Kawarabi-so's proximity to the Nosegawa spa means a good onsen soak at the end of the day's walk, plus you are driven there and back. Dinner and breakfast are wholesome and next day's bento just perfect for lunch after the Obako-toge.

Friendly hosts
The river beside this accommodation was beautiful and I envy the fishermen that get close to it. The 20 minute walk along the road from the Omata bus stop to the Minshuku offered some nice views down into the river. I had a lovely hot pot for supper, and they drove me to a nearby hot spring for a hot soothing bath. Thank you so much!

Local excellence
Our wonderful hosts were mother and son with the latter providing a feast of local ingredients for dinner, breakfast and for our lunch box for the next day’s walk on the Kumano Kodo trail. He even drove us down the road for a bath and came to pick us up again for return ? very relaxed and clean hikers were we! Very comfortable futon that supported about 8 hours much-needed sleep! The minshuku is a good day’s hike along the trail from Koyasan and is situated on a picturesque river where we were lucky enough to have cherry blossom.

Good respite after a long day of trekking
Amazing for me to do a multi-day trek where I don't have to bring my house on my back and tent it. Nice hot bath, and warm, cozy room, friendly, family run place. Smoking is still permitted anywhere though, so that was a drawback for us. When asked, however, the set of smoking guest quickly closed the sliding doors to permit us to finish our meal much more smoke free. Remnants of abandoned trout farming pools out back, but the front view is a gorgeous river gorge and surrounding mountains, sadly we were a few weeks too early and missed the cherry blossoms that would line the river's edge. Drove us to the start of the trail the next day to save us the road walking, and would have picked us up to save our feet on the pavement coming down, if only there had been cell phone reception. Rumor has it only softbank works in that area, was out of range fro nearly a day, until the top of the next mtn.

Comfortable & welcoming!
We had a very nice stay at Kawarabi-so. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and was extremely patient with our lack of Japanese language skills (she spoke little to no English, but her son, who arrived in the evening, did speak a little). The sleeping room was clean and comfortable. As with most of these traditional style guest houses, the walls are extremely thin (literally paper), but it was very quiet at night. We were served excellent meals in a small, comfortable restaurant-style seating area. Dinner included a yummy hot-pot, among the many dishes. The adventure of meals in these small guest houses was a highlight of our trip to Japan. There is a nice onsen about 1 km from Kawarabi-so, so we bathed there and not at the guest house. The proprieter prepared nice lunch boxes for our hike.
