River Fishermen's Guesthouse
Minshuku Nakano is a family-run guesthouse located in the southern part of Chikatsuyu village. Originally it was frequented by fishermen looking to catch the delicious Ayu sweetfish that thrive in the nearby Hiki-gawa river (the owner is an avid fisherman himself), but they have opened their home and hearts to walkers and pilgrims on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. It is located 10 minutes on foot from the Chikatsuyu-oji.

Cozy Accomodation
It's about an additional kilometer walk from the trailhead when entering Chikatsuyu. No meals provided, but the convenience store is a short walk away. Easy check-in, a well equipped kitchen and a soothing traditional Japanese bath (instructions clearly indicated for newbies) made this a great place to end the day's hike.

溫暖舒服的民宿
雖然沒有附餐點，但在附近超市可以買到食材到設備完善的廚房料理。房間很乾淨，浴室和廁所是男女分開的，但缺點是都只有一間，在女生比較多的情況下，就需要等一陣子才能洗澡，但可以泡澡還是滿緩解一整天爬山的疲累。房間很乾淨，應有盡有，也很溫暖，如果預算有限的話，這間民宿是很優質的選擇。

とても自由度があり快適でした
熊野古道を歩く途中で宿泊しました。 普通の民家を民宿にしていて、キッチン、居間なども自由に使ってよかった。 キッチンの料理用具や食器もあり、お料理している宿泊客もいた。歩いて5分もかからないところにAコープがあり、お弁当や食材もあり困らなかった。 居間にお湯が沸いていて、コーヒーやお茶がありいつでも飲めました。 お風呂はユニットバスですが、少し大きめで足が伸ばせました。 洗濯機もありできますが、屋根のある外で干すので、雨の予報だったので使いませんでした。

Decent place to stay at a good price
No complaints about this spot really. The other travellers who were in the accommodation the same night as us were very friendly so we had a good time chatting to them. I felt pretty itchy throughout the night but wasn't marked upon waking up so it might have just been the heat. The kitchen was well equipped and the showers & stuff were good!

扇風機を壊してしまい申し訳ありませんでした
近露の宿などが密集しているところからは15分くらい歩いたトンネル手前を左に曲がったところにあります。途中のAコープ近露店で夕食、朝食、翌日の昼食を仕入れてから宿に向かう必要があり、Aコープは夕方6時で閉まります。 部屋にはエアコンがなくて、洗濯したものは扇風機の風を当てて部屋に干すか、外に干すかになります。(洗濯機は、洗剤と共に無料で貸してもらえます) 洗濯物を扇風機の上に落として、扇風機を壊してしまったので、｢代金を払います｣と申し出たのですが、別の扇風機と交換してくれた上に、｢払わなくても良いですよ｣と言ってくれたので、とてもありがたかったです。宿の方には本当に申し訳ないことをしました。 凄い雨でずぶ濡れで着いたので、靴に詰める新聞紙を用意してくれたり、浴槽にお湯を張って、温まりなさい、と言ってくれたりと、とても親切でした。 一緒に泊まっていた台湾人の団体の声がすごくうるさくて、リビングルームも占領されて、隅で小さくなってご飯を食べるしかなくて、閉口しました。

Perfect stay after a long walk!
The room was very comfortable, kitchen was well equipped, and the location was very convenient to the grocery store and the bakery. I was nervous because the guest rooms didn’t seem to have ac but the common areas had AC and there was a fan in each room. We were plenty cool even on a hot day in June. Would definitely stay here again!

熊野古道を歩き旅
天候が悪く予定よりも早めにチェックインしたのですが親切に対応してくださいました。 キッチン内の道具や食器類、ポット、電子レンジ、トースター、冷蔵庫など自由に利用できたのですごく過ごしやすかったです。タオルや歯ブラシは持っていっていたのですが付いていました。 特に困ることはありませんでした。 ありがとうございました。

There are 3-4 bathroom/toilet on 1st floor & 2nd floor, clean and convenient; We arrived later than reservation and didn't order dinner service, the house owner drive us to a small shop where we can buy some food. 古道徒步的话，下山后直接Google这里需要走十几分钟，且和近露王子的盖章是相反方向，如果没有盖章第二天要去补一下。

Very good stay.
After a full day of hiking, this place was the perfect spot to rest and recharge. The space is spacious and very cozy, making it feel like a home away from home. Although meals aren’t provided, there’s a well-equipped kitchen and a supermarket just a short walk away, so it’s easy to cook for yourself. The host and his wife were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everything was spotless—I really appreciated how clean and well-maintained the place was. Highly recommend!

Great place to stay on your Kumano Kodo hike
Great guesthouse to stay during your Kumano Kodo hike. A little out of the way of the trail (1.5km or so) but really close to a supermarket and some bakery and restaurant. So a great place to recharge before continuing your trek. Host is very friendly and accommodating. Showers are good and everything is clean.

臨機応変な対応と充実した備品に助けられました。
午後から雨予報だったため、早朝から歩いた結果12時には近露に到着。近露の里でゆっくり昼食を摂って、Aコープで夕食分と次の日の昼食分をお買い物をしても、まだ13時過ぎ。その時点で既にザーザー雨になっていたので、そのまま宿に向かってしまいました。そんな早い時間だったのに、宿の方は本当に親切で、私を部屋に入れてくれて、お風呂も15時には入れるように準備してくださり、大感謝です。一階のリビングスペースにはコーヒーやお茶が飲めるようにもなっており、身体が温まりました。部屋も清潔で居心地よく、文句なしです。

気さくな女将さん
60代友達4人で宿泊しました。夕食は近くの道の駅、翌朝の食料とお昼のおにぎりを作るための材料など、Ａコープで購入し、朝おにぎりなど作りました。 同じ日に泊まっていた人たちもやはり中辺路を歩く人で、早々と出発して行きました。 部屋は2人2人で広々でした。寒くなったのですが、ぐっすり眠り、次の日も元気に歩きました。 女将さんも気さくな方で、バス停や食事場所なども教えていただき、ワイワイガヤガヤ楽しみました。

Very neat guesthouse
The guesthouse is located a little bit on the outskirts of town. It takes about a 15-minute walk to return to the Kumano Kodo. I was the only guest that day, so the stay was comfortable. There is a shared living room with some tea and coffee, and hot water available, if you would like to cook, there is also a kitchen available. The host was kind and responded to the door quickly. Just a note, the host did not take the print-out voucher so I was not so sure why it was mandatory to print out the overnight voucher.

卫生间和淋浴间分了男女，感受非常好。房间收拾得非常干净，入住舒服。 还在房东得指导下，洗了衣服（但是没有烘干机，需要晾晒）。 房子有个大大得客厅，入住得客人可以坐在一起聊天分享。 房屋位置离近露王子得入口稍微有点远，步行15分钟左右，我们一行人是能接受得。 在山脚下入住，非常非常安静。很推荐大家在近露选择这里。

The accommodation is a bit far from the Kumano Kodo trail (15mins) but It's good value. We had japanese room with thick and comfortable mattress. A nice warm bath when you arrive is the best ! Ce careful only one restaurant closing at 3pm and a supermarket closing at 8PM.

Basic Accommodation
I have to say there was a massive lack of hospitality in this place. The host was nice and smiley, but that was it. I had a bare minimum interaction with the host; she just showed me where my room was, and that was it! No attempt to explain where things were, how to get grocery shopping or when the check-out time was etc. I understand there was a language barrier but I accept that this is possible and could be common in rural areas like in Chikatsuyu, but in other places I stayed, the host at least tried to communicate using the means of Google translator/body language. I gave a very low rating purely due to the lack of efforts, and this came across as rude for Japanese standard of hospitality… On a separate note, facilities were good and clean, and the location was good (tucked away from the Kumano Kodo trail but is easy to find and very close to the A-Coop supermarket). If you arrive early enough, there are restaurants next to the supermarket where you can eat and they close at 5pm.

Relaxed experience in Chikatsuyu

Cold minshuku out of the trail
We had a very rainy day and when we arrived the room was not heated and the lady asked us to leave our coats outside. The only comfort were some old newspaper to put in our wet boots. You should buy your food at a nearby supermarket (it closes at 6pm) for dinner and breakfast. There is an old kitchen at disposal of the guests for preparing the meals. No instructions to use kettles and boilers and the landlady disappeared after check-in.

I had a very comfortable stay. The futon was comfortable and I was very glad to finally have an own room after weeks of sleeping in dormitories. The hosts were welcoming, although it was a bit difficult to communicate in English. Location is decent, close to the supermarket but a bit far from the Kumano Kodo trail.

Nous avons beaucoup aimé notre séjour ici. L’auberge est agréable, confortable et très bien tenue. Entre les boissons chaudes à volonté, les produits de toilettes… tout est fait pour qu’on s’y sente bien ! Les parties communes sont chaleureuses et invitent au bavardage avec les autres voyageurs. La cuisine est très bien équipée (si vous vous sentez l’âme d’un chef après votre passage au supermarché). On serait bien restés une nuit supplémentaire mais le Kumano Kodo nous attendait.

Wonderful Guesthouse
This was a wonderful spot after walking the Kumano Kodo. It is about 1km from the trail. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The host was very kind and welcoming. The bath was wonderful after a long day hiking. Would highly recommend.

I enjoyed my stay at Minshuku Nakano. The room was a decent size, tatami matt japanese style room. There were shared facilities and amenities including kitchen for cooking your own meals. All in all a good location with easy access to the A-coup supermarket. I enjoyed my stay there.

熊野古道からは少し離れた場所でしたが、途中にスーパーがあったので良かったと思います。周辺のお店は全部定休日だったので利用は出来ませんでした。お宿は私ひとりだけだったので、のんびりできて良かったです。オーナーさんも気さくでお風呂の準備やお部屋の説明も丁寧にしていただきました。お茶やコーヒー、みかんも置いていて嬉しかったです。トイレやお風呂もリノベーションされていたのか綺麗で快適でした。エアコン、暖房機器もあり冬場でも寒くありませんでした。

Lovely stay

Very nice and comfortable stay
Rooms and facilities are in very good conditions. Guests are treated with hot water and drinks. The owner knows very limited English but nice to guest. They wouldn't bother guests and show up all the time. The location is sort of far from main Kodo, it would take you appx 10~15min walk. Heat radiator is supplied for cold season.

Ali the host here has a terrific knowledge of the pilgrimage walk if that’s what you’re there for and can really help on some of the minor details. His English is good so if you can ask lots of questions about minor details, you might not have been able to discover prior I found this invaluable. the guest house is quiet and simple. It was clean.

Please improve
I am not happy with my choice of staying here. During the night, the room temperatures dropped significantly. Despite being well covered with my futon blanket, I woke up with a cold and had to abandon the kumano kodo pilgrimage, just after my first day. I believe the owners should take better care of their guests, specially if they take part in the official kumano kodo lodging platform, and anticipate their needs, as they know their town and their house better than any visitor can. In this case, they should make sure their building temperature is stable, and if they dont have sufficient isolation or central heating, at the very least provide guests with electric heaters and warn them about weather changes that may happen in their town. Other than this, and to be fair, the room was spacious, the house was very clean and the shower and toilet were comfortable. The hosts do not speak English, but we managed to understand each other basically. Still it would have been nice to have a small guide written in English on what things can be used around the house and how to use them (like the kitchen), since after checking in I did not see the host again.

Starvation in Chikatsuyu
Although the place itself was quite ok (well, it was also pricey enough..), the experience which kind of spoiled my stay there is the fact that there seems to be no food anywhere in this village after 6pm. After checking in, the owner disappeared and didn't show up for the rest of the time (I also guess I was the only guest that night), the supermarket in the village was closed (both at 6pm and at 8 am), the few restaurants next to it as well, the petrol station was open but only sold auto equipment. At the end I found myself buying ice-cream from a vending machine for dinner... The lofty words in the travel brochure about Kumano Kodo as a "culinary journey" which requires people "to open their mind" seemed pretty sarcastic that night. Indeed I had to open my mind a lot to be able to consider a vending-machine ice-cream a decent dinner after hiking the whole day! It would have been nice to have known beforehand that it is necessary to buy groceries in the city before staying overnight on the trail.

Exactly what you need after a big day
The host of this simple guesthouse was very welcoming and made sure I had got to the local co-op grocery store before it closed. There was a good sized kitchen to cook in and I had a whole room to myself. Very quiet and comfortable and great value.

Comfortable accommodation
Nice place but food a little unimaginative. No English whatsoever so not clear that had to go elsewhere for breakfast 7 am on (too late for a big days walk that day); the lunchbox was completely insufficient (ónly 3 rice balls on the biggest day of our whole walk - much more food and energy food is required for a 25 km walk with steep hills!!) - the only bad food experience we had in 2 weeks

Great stay at a reasonable price
I had a great stay here. The hosts were kind and accommodating and even though we don’t speak each other’s languages we were able to communicate just fine. They provide a space heater for your room at night to keep you warm and toasty. They also happened to have a spare ticket to the local art gallery (which I recommend) and offered it to me for free! The meals were all satisfying and tasty, and when factored into the price for the night, made for a great value considering the average price for accommodations in the area.

近露王子からは15分程度歩きますが、近くにAコープもあり、翌日の買い出しができます。お風呂も布団も綺麗で気持ちよく休むことができました。お湯やレンジを使用させてもらいました。洗濯機も借りて干すことができたので、少ない荷物で行動できとても良かったです。

Good choice for visiting Nanabenro
Location is very good, 5 minutes walk from the bus station. Owner will provide nearly everything for living, you can choose to cook by yourself or ordering the meal they provide.(i didn't order the dinner there) Breakfast was really good with western-style toast,egg and salad.

Unique Stay
While the location of Minshuku Nakano isn't the greatest, the meals and comfy tatami more than make up for it. The heater in the room kept us nice and warm, while the thick futons gave us a great sleep. The meals are delivered from the nearby cafe and our bento was fantastic. The only thing that was a little strange is how quiet and empty the place seemed. We rarely saw the owner/caretaker.

We came into Chikatsuyu following a long hike from Takajiri in the morning. The stay was slightly difficult to find but not too troublesome. It’s location is close to a grocery coop and the adjoining area had various food options. The stay itself wasn’t very comfortable. We were easily checked in and provided our room, which was nice in size and provided general necessities. The common areas welcomed us with complimentary tea and hot water. In addition the bathrooms were very clean. It was a comfortable stay for our Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage.

Perfect stay
I love this place so much! Although the location is a little far from the main route of Kumano Kodou, about 15 minutes, the host treated us very nicely as we were the family. Pleasant little guesthouse
It's a nice place all around. We arrived late and had no dinner but the food I saw other guests eating looked good. More important than that though was the helpfulness of the owners. We were going to start our long day on the Kumano next morn so we asked if we could leave some of our gear here and come back for it the day after. No problem. That all happened without a hitch. Sweet, clean and simple
We arrived early and the owner still allowed us to check in and get comfortable. The rooms are simple japanese tatami style and you lay your own futon. The bathrooms are shared and have a bath but they were not filled and we didn't use them. The supper was delivered in bento boxes by a local cafe and was served in the shared dining area. There was also a kitchen that was free to use. Note: this is a traditional style house and the walls here are thin! We tried to get an early nights sleep and could hear the conversation in the adjoining room. Bring earplugs if you struggle to sleep and if you are the ones staying up later than the rest please be respectful! Breakfast could be taken from 6.45am and was at the cafe around the corner. The cafe was just for bookings through the various accomodations and convenient for the Kumano Kodo and also the bus stop nearby. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed our short stay here.

The accommodation was way off the principal route. The owner was not very welcoming. She barely spoke to us. The dinner was very average and for the price very desapointing. The lunch that we needed to pick up at a restaurant was just a joke. 3 balls or rice and an orange for a long day track and very high price. The next night at yosemine onsen for a little more we had an amazing dinner, hotel and breakfast. Uncomparable. the accomodation should not be in your recommandation list. Unnaceptable. The worst stay of our 3 weeks in Japan. It’s so overprice it’s way over all we have seen during 21 days. A real scam.

Straightforward Accommodation
Use your map to find this place, and look for the small signs that are posted. Basic and clean; mats are a bit hard for sleeping. Bento box delivered is delicious as is the breakfast available in the cafe around the corner - early enough to catch the early bus. There are multiple rooms so you have the opportunity to meet other people. We were lucky to meet Adam from Portland and we travelled together for the next several days.

The minshuku provided us with everything we needed during our stay in Chikatsuyu. Even though it is not in the center of the village, the distance is easily walkable. There is a supermarket close by. Dinner was served in the guesthouse and was delicious. Breakfast was served in a café close by starting at 6:45 so that you can catch the first bus at 7:21 which is really convinient. We would stay at Nakano again!

友達と初熊野古道で民宿なかのに一泊しました。予定より早く着いたのにご親切に出迎えて頂き、要望に応えてすぐに近くの温泉まで送って頂きました。部屋は全体的に綺麗で、和室と茶の間でゆったりしたひと時を過ごすことが出来ました。食事は思ったより多くて、お腹いっぱいまで食べて体力付けることも出来ました。山里だからか夜に窓を開けると虫が入ってしまい、夜も虫の鳴き声がちょっとうるさかったですが、山登りの経験としては逆にいい思い出になりました。 朝に出た時に忘れ物してしまいしたが、朝ご飯を取っていた近くのお店まで駆けつけて、届けてくださったのは非常に助かりました。 本当にありがとうございました。またお会いできる日まで！

鮎釣りの宿
古道歩きで近露に着いた途端スコールに見舞われ、チェックイン予定まで時間があったが部屋に上げてもらった。荷物を置いて着替えをして、雨が上がったところで再度少し先まで歩いた。 午後6時には近くのAコープも閉まるし、他にも何もないので退屈ではあったが、ゆるーい雰囲気でくつろげた。 鮎釣りの釣り人の定宿らしかった。

simple house
there is about 15mins walk from the path of kumano kodo, but the house is very comfortable and quiet. no washing machine but a drying rig outside of the house. The supper is take away japanese food box, the taste is ok. You will get a breakfast coupon, then you need to walk 5 mins to a restaurant to have a nice breakfast, the breakfast time start at 6:45am, from this house to kumano hongu taisha is a long path, you can't start earlier if you choose to have breakfast.

A nice stay, but a little far from the city
Nakano San was very careful. However, this place is quiet far from the city, and you'll need to walk 20 min if you want to use the onsen ( Minshuku Nakano only has a bathroom ) . Meals were very good, and the breakfast at the Café was a nice experience too.

Outstanding hospitality and service!
The hosts went out of their way to pick us up at Michi-no-Eki rest area when our hike was cut short for the day because we took longer than expected due to rough weather. We intended to walk all the way to Chikatsuyu but we were unable to continue at that point. Somehow, they managed to track us down with the help of the shopkeeper near the bus stop. It was very much appreciated and a real lifesaver. The dinner that awaited us was great and we also enjoyed the breakfast and lunch that were provided.

Although the Minshuku is an additional kilometer away from the kumano kodo trailhead in Chikatsuyu, the house feels extremely homey, the service is excellent, the room is spotless, big and clean, and is well equipped with AC. Dinner was good, but it certainly felt a bit more simple than expected for the price of the package. The foldable futons were extremely comfortable, by far the most comfortable we encountered in the whole Kumano Kodo trip.

Family run accommodation to stay for the first night in the walk
The Minshuku Nakano is a bit far from the entrance of Chiaktsuu Ouji when you just finished the all day walk. However, you are warm welcomed by the hosts and take a relaxing shower before a nice dinner. The room and bathroom are both clean. The accommodation is close to a supermarket for you to fill up the supply on the next morning.

Comfortable and quiet tatami room. I like it that they have separate bathrooms and toilets for male and female, female gets a bigger bathroom too. Dinner bento was delicious but the breakfast and packed lunch provided by the cafe were underwhelming. Breakfast only one toast with a bit of fried egg and salad, definitely not enough for one going on a hike. As for the lunch box, it’s 3 rice balls with little ingredients, you get better ones from the standard convenience stores in Japan.

We had a good stay at Minshuku Nakano. We wanted to mention the great service in particular - We left behind a hiking pole at a breakfast place and only realised it when we have left the area. The owners were able to retrieve it for us and sent it to our next accommodation. The supper was delicious, but the breakfast and the packed lunch were a bit on the light side.

Pleasant stay and good value
Minshuku Nakano is a little off the path (15 mins walking), but once you get there it's a comfortable place. The hosts don't speak much English but were very nice. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The warm soaking tub was a great feature after a long days hike. Dinner is brought in from a local restaurant. It's a bit cold when it gets to the house, but the quality and taste is good. Breakfast is at the restaurant where dinner comes from, and the ladies that run it are great. Make sure to order the coffee and watch!

Nice Japanese style stay a little in the outskirts of the town
The house is a little off the route, but the rooms are nice Japanese style and the hot bathtub was set up which was really amazing after a long day of walking. Meals were ok but nothing special, a cold bento box and some tea only. We wish that the hosts had given us more attention, we got a brief introduction in signed language which was nice but then the host disappeared and we could not ask more questions throughout the evening. The hosts were very patient with us even thought we bursted in completely soaked after a skyfall, and the heating in the room managed to dry us up overnight. In general, we definitely recommend the stay.

lovely Minshuku after 1st day of Kumano Kodo hiking
Fantastic location! Though a little far away from the route, I got the chance of walking through Chikatsuyu in such a beautiful day, seeing the sunset and the gradual darkening of the mountain village. There is convenient shopping and catering facilities just nearby. The host was really friendly and guided me around the house. It was the first time I stayed overnight in a traditional Japanese house, but nothing made me nervous. I felt relaxed, comfortable and thankful.

Good clean place
We arrived at 13h30 which wasn’t reammy appropriate as the check in starts at 15h30. Still the owner was kind enough to let us in and stay. Didn’t see after after that but wasn’t really a problem for us. The place is clean, there’s a few extra futon beds so we piled 3 each, still weren’t extremely confortable but we’re able to sleep fine. Other than that the kitchen has all you need to cook and bathroom is clean, nothing to say. A good address for low budgets, don’t expect the ultra fancy stuff, but for one night it’s ok.

Very clean and new. A little far from the main road but easy to find. Coffee, tea, and full kitchen were great for our stay. Coffee and use of kitchen was a bonus, since we left early to hike before the coffee shop opened. The minshuku is clean and well organized. Unfortunately, the owners cannot prepare dinner (it is not surprising as they clearly mention it when you do the reservation and also inform you not to forget to buy food at the local supermarket before it gets closed as there are no restaurant in the area). So you will have few interaction with the family running the house but the place remains a good option if you are searching for a clean room and bathroom for 1 night in the area.

部屋もお風呂も非常に清潔で使いやすいですし、素泊まりでスーパーを利用したい人には良い立地です。翌日も歩く予定だったので継桜近くまで距離を稼ぎたかったのですが、早朝に出発して3時には湯の峰へ到着できました。設備や接客は必要最低限で、布団も自分でしきます。部屋の鍵も簡易なもので、ドアを開ける音や他のお客さんの声がよく聞こえました。温泉への送迎をお願いできるか聞きたかったのですが、一通り説明が終わるとどこかへ（隣の家？）消えてしまい、声をかけられませんでした。インターホンを押せば良かったのだと思いますが、疲れていたのですぐシャワーを浴びて寝てしまいました。

Located just a few minutes offsite Kumano Kodo, this Minshuku is also very close to a supermarket. This is very convenient, since the Minshuku does not offer food, but has a kitchen! There is a fridge, microwave, stove and cutlery for you to prepare your supper and breakfast, which then can be consumed in the common room. Bathrooms are ok, nothing fancy. The owner is very accomodating and helpful. The rooms were'nt very well insulated (both for noise and heat), but for a one night stay, it was perfectly acceptable.

Our stay at Minshuku Nakano was fine. The host was pretty scarce during the entire visit. She just showed us to our room, and told us where to find hot water, coffee and tea and disappeared for the rest of the night. The shower was amazing though! We booked late so this was the only accommodation available for us, but we’d have liked to stay somewhere maybe 5-6kms out of town so that our walking distance was more split up, instead of walking 9kms one day and 20-something on the next. It was close to the grocery store which was convenient. Overall the stay was fine and we wouldn’t mind staying there again.

Lovely!

Warm hospitality from the Nakano couple
The minshuku is about 10 mins walk from Chikatsuyu-oji/Kumano Kodo path, but very near to the bus stop. We exited Kumano Kodo and took bus from Kurisu-gawa stop as the rain got heavier, and to our delight the house is just few minutes away from the bus stop. We occupied all rooms on the first floor. There are 2 spacious bathrooms, 2 toilets, and 2 sinks on the first floor. After being drenched in the rain, the room felt very cosy and warm. The meals were cooked by Mrs Nakano and it has very homie taste. The couple did not speak English, but they were kind enough to accept my broken Japanese :) Mrs Nakano wished us safety and good weather the next day.

Very new and nice looking building but interaction was scarce
I stayed here for one night and can say that the place looks really nice and clean. However, I felt a little bit left alone. I was greeted and shown the room and bathroom but then left to myself. I had to actively ask about checkout and the laying-out of the futon. Maybe it was different because I booked without meals - I could hear the other guests in the "dining room". Nevertheless, it is a good place to stay, even tough a bit far from the center of Chikatsuyu (but therefore close to the supermarket).

This Ryokan is a little gem. The food was amazing! All the meals traditional and prepared so thoughtfully. I would highly recommend it for this. The people were very friendly and helpful as well. We got lost and landed up quite far away in the wrong place and the landlady was so kind as to get in her car and come and fetch us. We were exhausted and so grateful. Bathrooms shared but of course very clean and a lovely tub to soak in. Rooms also simple, clean, fine for our needs.

Very nice minshuku in Chikatsuyu
If you are walking the Kumano Kodo trail and going through Chikatsuyu, I would recommend this minshuku. Very nice staff, rooms and amenities available. The meals are also awesome. It is located about 15 minutes of walk from the part of Chikatsuyu through which the Kumano Kodo trail passes.

Perfect in Everyday despite the slight off site location
We stayed in three different minsuku and this one has the best bathroom. Hot water shower with the option of in-house 'Onsen' (bath tub). It was spacious enough too. Hosts are both very sincere people. They caught fish in the nearby river and we had large servings of sashimi that night along with many other traditional yummy treats such as salt baked fish and flavourful nabe (steamboat).

たいへんお世話になりました！の言葉につきます。 一か月前このアンケートを打っていたまさにその時、パソコンが故障し、初期化しなくてはならないとか、データも消えてしまうかも･･･なあんてことになり、その後パソコンが戻ってきた頃はいろいろ忙しくなって、すっかり忘れてしまっていました。久々にコーヒーを飲みながら中辺路のことを話しながら、オッとアンケートの件を思い出した次第で、遅くなりました。 さて本題です。私たち夫婦にとっては長年の夢である熊野古道中辺路でした。現役の頃はせいぜい２泊で山や古道を歩いてきましたが、リタイアしたら何日かかけてゆったりと歩くことを楽しむ予定でいました。ところが現実は、介護や孫の出産等家族の事情でまた違った忙しさの日々が続き、こんなハズではなかったのにとジレンマを感じている中、今回思い切って中辺路を歩く計画の運びとなりました。 いろいろ本を読んだり、ネットで調べたりはしたものの、「中辺路を歩く上でお弁当は必携」と、改めて思いました。継桜王子を過ぎ山道にはいると、お店はないことを強調しておいてください。民宿なかのさんのおにぎり弁当、本当に美味しかった。ありがたかったです。１回めは蛇形地蔵のそばで、歩き疲れ座り込んで夢中で食べました。２回目は大斎原の大鳥居脇の藤棚の下で、そよ風にふかれていただきこの上ない幸福感も味わいました。 中辺路（と言っても全行程ではありませんが）を歩き通したことは、達成感とともに「まだまだこれから！」という体力・気力への刺激になりました。民宿なかのさんのご夫妻の、温かくさりげないおもてなしとあのおにぎり弁当は、ずっと忘れることはないでしょう。 本当にありがとうございました。 熊野ツーリズムビューロー様にも、宿泊地の手配をしていただきたいへんお世話になりました。また、いつか別ルートを歩く際にはよろしくお世話お願いいたします。

A reasonable place to stay, except for the cigarette smoke
Our guestroom smelled severely of cigarette smoke. This was not a room where one guest had smoked once. It clearly was a room where people smoked on a daily basis. This made the room, and sleeping in it, extremely unpleasant. The bath was perfectly acceptable but not exceptional. The meals were nice. The location was convenient, although a lack of signage made it hard to find. The staff were not rude, but they were not friendly either.

Great little guesthouse in Chikatsuyu. It was a bit of a walk from the main Kumano Kodo route (about 10-15 minute walk) and was right near a grocery store which was convenient. The food was delicious and a very high quality traditional Japanese meal. Beautiful view of the mountains from my room.

Flexible with regard to meals
Only a ten-minute walk away from the Kumano Kodo - Nakahechi trail, the minshuku Nakano was a nice and cosy place to stay for the night. Although it was only possible to book a vegetarian meal type A (no meat) via the Kumano Kodo website, the very friendly couple of this minshuku, had no problem with cooking an alternative fish-less side dish for me. The Minshuku is a bit hidden and not directly on the Kumamoto Kodo route. But the staff was very friendly and the facilities very clean. The best was the food. We enjoyed not only a great and very filling dinner, but had an amazing breakfast and also the lunchbox was great. Their heart is really into their Minshuku, everything is well cared for. You can see it not only in the rooms, but espacially with the food.

Great place to recharge your energy for next leg of Kumano Kodo
Minshuku Nakano is not in the center of the village, but easy to reach and less than 2 minutes from the bus stop - which helped us to get a jump on the trail to Hongu. Shared bathroom/shower newly renovated and clean. No AC, but even in August the fan in the room did the job. Food is excellent, owner is a fisherman and the fish was very tasty & fresh. Packed lunch was tasty, too: 3 rice balls with diff spices & veggies wrapped in a large leaf. Highly recommended.

We were very hot and tired when we reached the village of Chikatsuyu, so it felt like we had to walk a lot longer to reach the minshuku. The host was very kind to us, food was wonderful! No air conditioning in the room. Rooms, toilets and baths were very modern and clean.

The couple running the Minshuku were very friendly and hospitable even though they could speak only a little english. Meals were the best i've eaten while hiking the Kumano Kodo. Rooms and shower were very clean and comfortable.

Best meals in Japan!
I spent one night here while on the Kumano Kodo. The guesthouse was charming and welcoming. The room was large and well-lit and everything was exceptionally clean. The meals were unbelievable! There was such a variety of dishes and so much care went into the presentation. I highly recommend staying here! There is a large grocery store nearby to stock up for trail food, though the lunch packed from Minshuku Nakano was not to be missed!

Run by such nice people
This place is a little out of the way, but the friendliness of the owners more than makes up for it. We were late for dinner but called them and they cooked our dinner late, it was very much appreciated after such a long day. The Meals were good as well, dinner especially. Room was nice and clean but no AC just FYI. The bathrooms facilities were very nice and very clean. There were separate facilities for men and women as well. Overall, It's not the closest of the options but I still recommend it. It was clean, had great service, and good food.

Although the accomodation is small and a little out of the way, it is run by a lovely caring couple and this was the most friendly reception and best food of our entire hike. Tatami rooms are nice, spacious and clean, and the dinner and breakfast were absolutely exceptional .. and the simple lunchbox they gave us for the hike the next day was some of the best rice i have ever eaten ...

staff didnt really intervene much. i arrived from the trek and literally went to the room and havent seen them anymore. location was a bit out of town and after the walk you just want to crash. the room itself was fine! breakfast was nice, not spectacular but good enough.

This was our first Minshuku during our pilgrimage. We had a clean tatami room and we had seen others before that were worse. Meals vere "oishi". The bathroom was shared with others however the owner seems to check it regularly. The next bus stop within 100m walking distance.

Incredible experience! Highly recommend.
I can't say enough how wonderful this place was. The location is beautiful - Chikatsuyu is just perfectly nestled among the mountains, close to the Kumano Kodo, and the house is near a great grocery store. The hosts are so kind and the food was simply fantastic. Our room was tidy and comfortable. We hope to stay here again in the future!

Fantastic Minsuku!
The only downside is that it's about a 15-20 minute's walk from the Kumano path and the center of town. However, with the negative noted, this Minsuku was absolutely wonderful. The hospitality of the host (and the quality of meals) was first rate. The dinner and breakfast were highlights of our total trip. The minsuku is small, but not without many wonderful charms.

Incredible stay with amazing hosts
Sakoshi and Reiko are beautiful people, so nice and giving, and welcoming. We feel this was the epitome of staying in a ryokan. We were lucky enough to be the only guests staying this night. It can get quite busy our hosts advised us. Although there is no onsen so to speak in the ryokan, there is a very hot bath which was a beautiful relaxing way to finish a long day of walking. Our room was basic, but very comfortable. The meals that were served - Wow! The meals were large, and the most amazing cuisine we have ever tried in our lives. Sakoshi is a fisherman, and he told us that some of the fish we were eating were caught by him, by hand, that day. Delicious! Location of the ryokan, is a bit under a 1km walk from the Kumano Kodo track, but this did not bother us at all, especially considering it was such an amazing stay with such amazing people. Please stay here, we highly recommend it.

Nice place to stay. +The room was small but clean and cute with a TV. +The meals were copious and tasty. Served in the meal room. +The staff was nice and speaking english. +Even though there was only one bathroom for the women and one for the men, it was quite spacious with a bathtube filled with hot water. -The minshuku is not really far from the Kumano trail but no sign gives directions so print a map beforehand or use the internet if you can (I couldn't).

Very friendly host. We booked for our luggage to be sent from Takijiri (the starting point of the walk) but we weren't sure where the waiting person was when we arrived. May be it was the driver sitting in the van. We saw a sign in front of the shop next to the van which said 'Luggage Transport', so we went inside the shop and requested our bags to be sent from Takijiri to Minsuku Nakano. Some how I have the feeling it was the van driver outside who was waiting for us and not the people in the tourist shop next to it.

Great minshuku for Kumano Kodo experience
Staying at this minshuku has been extremely helpful during our Kumano Kodo trekk from Takijiri-oji to Hongu Taisha. Owners are very kind with guests, and prepare delicious washuku food to regain the energy used during the long walks. Tatami rooms are ample and futon is very confortable. Irori in the dining room is great, as is the fantastic ofuro that guests can use from 16:00 on. Overall, a highly recommendable experience!

New building, traditional feel
We arrived early because we did not know how long the walking would take us. We were welcomed even though we arrived early. Everything was immaculately clean. The food was great and it was nice to see the in-ground oven in use. I was so pleased that the food was Japanese style and not western style for both supper and breakfast. Comfortable Stay with Superb Meals
We had an excellent stay at Minshuku Nakano. Location was easy to find, entire house was extremely clean and in good condition. We needed the washing machine and Nakano-san willingly let us use it for no extra charge. The meals were delicious, and the additional lunch bento was well worth the price. Nakano-san was really helpful in advising us on which bus to take and at what time. Loved the experience.

良いお宿でした。
中辺路を逆に歩き、本宮方面から滝尻王子まで歩く間に泊まりました。 他の宿と比べて古道からは少し離れてはいますが、特に気になる距離ではありません。 A-coopの近くを通るので、むしろ買い物できてよかったです。 建物などは綺麗で、部屋も過ごしやすかったです。

心温まる宿でした
女性1人旅ということもあり、心配をしていたのですが、迎えてくれた女将さんの笑顔にほっとし、近くの温泉にも快く連れて行っていただきました。また、夕飯は宿泊者みんなで食べるのですが、日に焼けた優しい旦那さんが釣った鮎やおいしいご飯を一緒に食べ、また、熊野古道を歩くという同じ目的を持っているので自然に会話が生まれ、楽しい食事となりました。その後、ちょっとしたトラブルにもすぐに対応していただいたり、近所の方に助けていただいたりと、皆さん気さくで人情味のある方達とたくさん出会えました。また、何度でも泊まりたいと思う宿でした。

Great place where to stay if you walk until Chikatsuyu, it takes 10 minutes to get there on foot from the entrance of the town but the place is really nice and clean. The rooms are tipically Japanese with futon, very clean and spacious. The owners don't understand very much of English but they try their best to help you, we asked for a lunch on the same day departing and they kindly prepared it. The dinner on the previous night was amazing, such variety and nice food. Also the bathrooms were very spacious and clean and we really enjoyed the Japanese bathtub with hot water, a very relaxing moment when you have been walking all day long. A really nice place with nice owners.

Nice homelike place
It was a nice place to stay for the night. Everything was clean and nothing bad to say about Nakano. The family seemed really nice although we didn't really conversate because of language barrier. The food was really good and portions were good sized. The lunch box was a nice addition so I had something to eat while hiking.

Really nice people and excellent food
This very clean and friendly place is worth visiting. The rooms are big and the only thing missing is an airconditioning, although it didn't get really hot in my room. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. All kinds of superb Japanese food. The owner was really friendly; he drove me to the nearby onsen, so I don't know how the bath in this minshuku is.

Chikatsuyu, a green little valley
We received a warm welcome with cold tea and top facilities to refresh after a second day of hiking. The Futons and especially pillows were great. There was no air condition but the fan will work even in the hottest summer. If you come during summer the valley will look bright green, covered in rice fields. Try to arrive early to enjoy this small village.

Loved our stay here
First: If you're a foodie, you will love the traditional food here. Dinner, breakfast and lunch were all delicious. We're still chatting about the meals we had here! They packed us some rice balls for lunch on our hike. The Minshuku was completely spotless and was our favourite place we stayed at. The toilet and shower facilities were shared (gender separated) and ridiculously clean. The futons were cosy and we had a great sleep. It was a good spot to spend a night before continuing our walk. Would have happily spent a few more nights there exploring the town! Like most accommodation along the Kumano Kodo, they don't have dedicated non-smoking rooms, but this wasn't an issue at all. Our room had no odours and was lovely and fresh. When another guest was smoking in the dining room at dinner, the owner politely asked him to stop and apologised to me (I hadn't said anything as the smoke wasn't bothering me, but thought it was nice that he had remembered my request.)

おもてなし最高でした。心行くまで堪能しました。お風呂は近隣の温泉に連れて行っていただいたので評価できませんが、洗面所もおトイレもとてもきれいにしてあります。お食事は本当に心づくしという感じ、とってもおいしかったです。場所もバス停から2分と本当に便利！近隣も静かで心休まる時間を過ごせました。 ただ…残念だったのはお部屋がとてもタバコ臭かったこと。夜、窓を閉めるまで気づきませんでしたが、たばこのにおいが本当に苦手なので眠れず、気持ち悪くなり苦労しました。それ以外は100点満点の120点です。再訪したいです。

お部屋、お風呂等とてもきれいで気持ち良く使わせていただきました。 場所は古道から少し離れていますが、車でお迎えに来てくださったので問題ありませんでした。バス停はすぐ近くです。囲炉裏がありそこで鮎を焼いていただいたり、他の宿泊者と囲炉裏を囲んで話したり雰囲気も良かった。 ご主人と奥様の気さくな感じが気持ち良かった。早朝6時に出発した連れのためお弁当をにしていただけた。

Perfect place to stay
Very nice and slightly secluded place. We had very good time over there and the hosts were very nice to give us a lift along Kumano trial. Please pass my regards to them. Best food of the trip for me. Just slightly out of the main stretch in the town, but a little more walking will not kill you. An FYI - it is a viable alternative to walk from Takahara to this Minshuku in a day. Bath is a bit small.

Simple, best effort to make guest happy

A Place in Chikatsuyu to Rest Your Feet....
Minshuku Nakano has the most authentic Kumano-Kii-Mountains rural flavor. The owners were exceptionally hospitable and the dinner served was superb!! We had local grilled river fish and local vegetables served around a Japanese floor hearth. The food was one of the most delicious, healthy, tasty and freshest we ever had!!

Amazing food in a warm and welcoming guest house
This place really feels like staying with a family as the owners put a lot of effort into creating an atmosphere of eating and interacting together over food. The rooms are traditional and very clean with shared bathroom facilities that are easily accessable. The meals are cooked over a sunken hearth in the middle of the dining area and are excellent. A great way to try traditional local dishes. I took the option to have a lunch pack prepared as I was hiking and this was a great idea as eating traditional rice balls containing different ingredients was another way to stay connected with the culture while alone in the wilderness. Overall a lovely night stopover and the village is charming as well.

民宿の場所の詳細がわからず、民宿の方に連絡して教えていただいて辿り着くことが出来ました。 また、帰りの際に、旅のファイルを民宿に忘れてしまったのですが、宿の方が気付き、携帯に連絡くださり、本当に有り難かったです。 また、食事は地で採れた魚や野菜を使った料理で風情を感じました。

A welcoming home
We had been on the trail all day in the wind and rain after the remains of a typhoon passed and Minshuku Nakano was a welcoming home to shower and change into the complementary yukata and enjoy a delicious multi-course dinner in the warm intimate dining space around the irori hearth. It was a memorable evening for our family to gather and share the events of the day. The rooms were clean and fresh and the futons comfortable where we all spent a well-earned rest before the next day's hike. Breakfast was scrumptious and filling fueling us for the day. We had opted for the lunch box which was very welcome along the trail. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, it was a delightful stay.

Hard to locate
It was a bit tricky to locate the house, as it was a bit outside the village. We couldn´t find any sign showing the name of the place. Actually we passed it and turned to go back, when we saw the little sign at the entrance. A larger sign at the wall facing the main road/gasoline station could help! We arrived around noon and we appreciated it was OK to check in directly.

獲れたての鮎
宿のご主人がその日につってきた鮎をいただきました。また、シカの肉もちょうど良い解凍で、山菜もおいしかったです。奥さんもお客さんのとりとめのない話にもしっかり聞いて答えていただきました。山間の素朴な人柄がにじみ出るよいイメージを持ちました。

Favorite minshuku of my entire trip
Very sweet hosts and comfortable lodgings. The freshly caught ayu roasted in the inari hearth was a special treat for dinner.

Some of the nicest people I have met in Japan
People in Japan are very, very friendly. However, the owners of the minshuku went above and beyond. Greeted us with a smile and were very nice to us throughout our stay. We indicated that we wanted to stay in an onsen to heal our aching feets and the owner happily drove us across town to a special onsen that is renowned for its silky smooth waters. He also offered to pay for our onsen fees, but I didnt let him. After, the onsen owner shuttled us back to the minshuku. Location is like 1.5 km off the trail, which seems like an eternity after the first day, but the owner drove us back to the trailhead in the morning, so all was fine. Food was my favorite of the 3 places we stayed during the Kumano Kodo. Fresh fish from an experienced fisherman.

熊野古道中辺路 滝尻王子～近露王子
初めての熊野古道で雨の山道を歩くことになったが、案内標識もしっかりしており迷うようなことはなかった。午前11：00過ぎからのスタートで近露に着いたのは18:00前となり、民宿の場所を尋ねたおばさんが連絡してくださり、車で迎えに来ていただきました。遅くに到着したにも関わらず、温かいおもてなしでした。翌朝も車で古道まで送っていただきました。

Loved my stay here!
I loved staying here. The owners were so lovely and were very helpful in ensuring that I arrived my next accommodation safely. The location was a little bit far for me as I was walking the trail but the owner was very nice and actually drive me back to the track the next morning. I would stay here again and will be recommending to anyone who is doing the walk. Also, FOOD WAS AMAZING!

Although the owners couldn't speak much English, they were very welcoming and provided a great service. It's located a little out of the way but Chikatsuyu isn't that big anyway so it's only a short detour to your walk anyway.

small intimate guesthosue - get a feel for what real Japanese living is like
this minshuku is located a little outside of town, but doesn't really matter because nothing happens in the town in the evening (we walked through around 5pm and it was dead). owners were a very nice couple that drove us back to the trail head in the morning! no onsen, but had a private shower (legitimate western shower) which my mother appreciated. Food was great! There was a pit in the middle of the floor for charcoal cooked food - so unique and really warmed up the room on a cool night! only downside is Chikatsuyu is located a long hike from Hongu which makes the hike on day 3 a little long (especially for my mother). would be great to find a place on the east side of town (and further outside of town if possible, but we couldnt find one).
