 Description

Kitayama Onsen Lodging

Okutoro Onsen Yama-no-Yado is a hot spring cottage facility in the upper reaches of the Dorokyo gorge on the Kitayama River.  Kitayama is a small village surrounded by forested mountains beside a lake created by a dam.  Guestrooms are large mixed style with both western style beds and tatami rooms. Meals contain locally produced ingredients including Jabara, a citron only found in Kitayama. The hot spring baths are expansive with excellent views, their modern lines are based on the image of a log raft.  Forestry is a major industry in the region and historically logs were lashed together and floated down the river as rafts.  This has now turned into a major tourist activity and symbol of the village.  Rafting and canyoning are also extremely popular outdoor sports based in Kitayama.
