Refurbished Home

Shingu Guest House SOU is an older two story wooden Japanese home renovated into a lodging. It is conveniently located a short walk from the JR Shingu station.

The lofty entrance opens onto a rich-brown hardwood floor hall down the length of the long house. There is a large Japanese style common room for hanging out, communal kitchen, shared toilet and shared bath (which can be used privately).

There are three guestrooms, two Japanese style on the second floor, and one with western style bunk beds on the first floor.

No meals are supplied by restaurants are withing walking distance.

Location is close enough to station. The house staff lady did not speak English but communicate very efficiently and clearly in Japanese-English app. We are in 6-person group hence get the entire building ourselves. The sitting room is exception, we can chill out after the day's hike. The stairs up to the room are bit challenging given the traditional house setting, narrow and high. Would be good if can access wi-fi in room. Kitchen is great with all amenities and clean.

Wonderful stay

This was our last spot on our Kohechi and Nakahechi trip, within walking distance from the train station. The room was nice, and they allowed us to borrow their bicycles, enabling us to ride to all the temples and shrines we wanted to visit. No meals are included but there are plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby to eat. We visited a great coffee shop in town that we loved.

Recommended Shingu stay

The SOU is located just a few minutes walk from Shingu station, also not far from the attractions. The house is very distinctive and the area is very quiet, making it a perfect end to a walk along the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi.

Great end of the trail stay

This location is close to the train station and the shrine. The guestroom is great and the living room is really spacious and welcoming. There is a kitchen to use, as well as bikes to get around. We arrived early and were able to call to have someone meet us to let us in. The host that arrived was great, very friendly and helpful. This was a great final night stay.

This guesthouse is comfortable and located close to the station. Two of the three rooms are up a very steep flight of stairs so not recommended if this is a problem for you. Good kitchen and washing facilities and common area. Simple shower and bath but clean. Easy communication and access to the sites of Shingu

ok for the area

The place is not as great as the others on the trail, but clean, spacious rooms and very friendly and helpful reception . Close to the bus station and Takahama Taisha. It is a recommended place if you want to stay in Shingu.
