Excellent location, bare-bones accommodations

Mats on a floor, several per room. Not a bad accommodation, but very bare-bones. Extremely close to the station. The owner recommended me an amazing meal at an izakaya a five-minute walk away.

Worst place I've ever been in my entire life

I am a travel agent so I've been in many hotels, guesthouses and all type of accommodations but really this was really by far the worst place I've been sleeping in. We had a reservation of 2 nights and we only spent one because this place was so dirty, I've never been in a place like that, when you enter the guesthouse you pass in front of a kitchen that is full of dirt. The room is really something awful too, the walls are full of holes, there's dust everywhere and the sheets and covers are used and have holes too... I mean you can't promote this as a guesthouse or nothing else. An accommodation must be clean, always! and that's a place that hasn't been cleaned for a while. We asked for towels to have a shower and had to pay for these, I didn't use the towels because they had holes too and a dirty color. We even didn't want to have a shower there, the shower is dirty too, a small cabin and you better don't look too much at the floor and around... The shower is located in small room next to a big cupboard with lots of things, there's disorder and dirt everywhere. There's a small hand / wash bassin in the middle of a corridor to wash your hand and teeth... I even took pictures because as the rest it was full of dirt all around, with old bottles full of dust. Really we choose this place to transfer next day for the Kumano Kodo but I have to say that this place wouldn't even pass any control in Europe, you can't promote a guesthouse or even try to open it in this condition. The owner clearly doesn't pay any attention to his ""guesthouse"", so that's really not a good way to promote Kumano Kodo and attract tourists. When this problems happen we should be fully refunded as we obviously cancelled because of the state of the house... we were only refunded 40% of the amount and that's not really fair considering the reason we cancelled.

Worst guesthouse ever

Don't go to this awful guesthouse, although it's location is excellent. I slept in a room with six people and the room was too small for us. Two futons were supposed to fit in two tatami lengths, so as a result my feet were in my neighbor's bed and vice versa. The airconditioning in the room was very nosy and there was no airconditioning in the rest of the accommodation. The place was dirty as hell! I don't think anyone ever cleaned there the last five years or so. I only saw the owner during check in. This whole adventure was also really expensive, compared to the other places. Again: don't go there, it's terrible!

The worst experience in Japan

This kind of guest house doesn´t correspond to the level of development of a country like Japan. When you are in this guesthouse you feel as if you were a ""Refugee"": -tiny -Dirty -Bad services

Convenient and Friendly

The hostel is in a great location and easy to get to from the station. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating - they stored my bags for me for a few hours after I had checked out and before my onward travel. The men in the room next door to us were fairly noisy but that was the only negative. Overall a great place to stay and good value for money.

The hosts at this very cozy hostel were most kind to us! When we arrived around lunchtime they would offer us some of their food to try, and they went out of their way to organize some hiking maps we were still lacking for the next day (and which we kept and used for the whole following week!). Tentsuku Guesthouse made a perfect opening for a perfect trip! Thank you ever so much!

Good basic accomodation in a great location next to the train station. Good for a short overnight stop so you can make an early start on the Kumano Kodo the next day.

Dirty

An accommodation with a low general profile and a serious lack of cleanliness and maintenance. I do not recommend it.

Good rooms for the price and very good location, just next to the station. Since we were a group of four people we could get a private room which was a plus. Friendly personal, one of the owners gave us good advice for hiking Kumano Kodo.

Very friendly Personal. No extra Bathroom, only shared toilet, shower and washbasin. The common rooms in the guesthouse were very smal an full, but it was very homelike. The sleeping room was climated and big enough and the futon was very confortable

Tentsuku is great for the price but no frills. It is just outside Kii-Tanabe station. The guesthouse is a little giftshop in front (selling free trade goods) and basically someone's home with extra rooms.
