 Description

Kumano Hayatama Taisha is the second of the three Kumano Grand Shrines.  It is located in the city of Shingu at the mouth of the Kumano-gawa River.  Kamikura-jinja is a small shrine on the side of Mt. Gongen, next to a massive rock, which is believed to be where the first Kumano deities descended.

This walking tour is designed to be combined with the Traditional Boat Tour and will introduce the main sites of Shingu City (as well as some of the minor ones too!).

The guide will meet you near Kumano Hayatama Taisha parking lot.  The first site visited is Kumano Hayatama Taisha.  From here the tour varies depending on whether you have luggage or not.

LUGGAGE OPTION
If you have luggage, the tour will transfer to the Shingu train station by local bus so that you can drop your luggage in a coin-locker.  Lunch will be eaten at a restaurant near the station, and then walk to see the Kamikura-jinja.

NO LUGGAGE OPTION
If you do not have luggage the tour will eat lunch on the way to Kamikura-jinja, and then walk to the Shingu station to complete the tour.

NOTE: For those that do not wish to climb the stairs to Kamikura-jinja, a visit to the ruins of the Shingu castle is included.

Please let us know if you have luggage or not when making the booking.
