Traditional Kimonos from ancient Japan are available for rental in the Hongu village.  

These clothes are the symbol of the Kumano Kodo because the pilgrimage began with the nobles of Kyoto during the period that these elaborate clothes were worn in the ancient imperial court.

Busses run daily to Hongu from JR Kii-Tanabe Station, Shirahama, Shingu and Gojo. Get off at Hongu Taish-mae bus stop.

● ~1 hour 20 minutes by bus from Shingu Station (bus timetable 3)
●~10 minutes by bus from Yunomine or Kawayu Onsen (bus timetable 11)
● ~4 hours by bus from Gojo (bus timetable 4)
● 1 minute walk from "Hongu Taisha 本宮大社" bus stop
