What a perfect way to end a trip
The Arafune Resort offered hospitality, kind staff, a fine facility with some outstanding art, in a location that is unmatched.

Fantastic hotel on Afafune coast.
Arafune Resort is a small sized hotel in the very quiet town of Tahara. The attraction here is the beautiful coastal walk to the east of the hotel along the Arafune coast where you will see fishermen diving for lobster and abalone. The walk along a paved road right along the sea front offers great views over the spectacular coast and ends after 4km where there is a walking track up through the camellia forest. The hotel itself is run by Ms Watanabe who takes great pride in the hotel and her guests comfort. We had a magical and huge tatami room looking out to sea with a private bathroom and toilet. Dinner was a buffet with many traditional Japanese delicacies. There are 2 huge baths in the onsen for the traditional soaking before the evening meal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and transferred us to the Koza railway station for our train to Kansai.

cheerful house
wonderfully located at the seaside. Warm welcome, very quiet litte village and a path which leads you along the raff seaside with its scaped rocks. Everybody was very friendly

all-in-all good
The price was considerably high in comparison to other accommodations. Nice service. The buffet was a littlebit odd, although the quality was good. The location was nice, but on the pictures of the kumano-travel-website it looked much nicer. Very annoying was the smell of cigarette smoke in our room at night which came through the A/C.

A pleasant stay
I enjoyed my stay at the resort which was a brief 10mins walk from the train station. The surroundings are calm, serene and reinvigorating to tired souls. The beach in front of the resort boasts a lovely view and the hills behind are not as inaccessible as one might think... One can use this as a base to explore other parts of Kii, with reasonable travel times to Kushimoto, Shirahama and Shingu.

Pleasant enough but lacking in providing any assistance with what to see in the area. We would not recommend it to other visitors to Japan.

Good and wholesome
A converted town hall doesn't sound like much of a hotel, but this is a beauty! With rooms looking over a sandy beach, small harbour and fabulous rocky coast that is crawling with crayfish. Comfortable room on 3rd floor with ensuite Western style. This is called an Oceanfront Community Resort and apart from fishing, seems to be the main game in the small settlement of Kii-Tahara, not far out of Kushimoto and right at the southern tip of Kii Peninsula. Very helpful staff and we did some good shopping in the lobby! Good clean bath. Dinner was a smorgasbord (or Japanese equivalent) of good wholesome and tastey dishes probably sourcing vegetables from their large veg garden and of course the sushimi from the huge tuna and yellowtail catch along this coast.
