A rare opportunity
The advertisement for this house does not do it justice. You get a complete traditional Japanese house that has been thoroughly equipped with high quality modern appliances etc. The rooms are very spacious, but what sets this house apart is the care and expense with which the proprietors have embellished the house with works of art such as kimono, pottery, etc. In many years of travelling in Japan, I have never enjoyed a similar experience in any price range. Also the location of the house is deceptive--at first glance it seems out of the way, but it is located less than 10 minutes walking to downtown and very good restaurants, and also located adjacent to a river, port and interesting neighbourhoods.

Great Place to Begin our Journey
I had a lovely stay at this charming Japanese guesthouse! The location was ideal—peaceful yet just a short walk into town, which made exploring very easy. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and comfortable, offering a great place to relax after a day out. I especially appreciated the kitchen—it was well-stocked with both coffee and tea, and the hot water pot made it easy to enjoy a warm drink whenever I wanted. The bathroom was also a highlight: very clean, roomy, and fully stocked with plenty of towels. If I could offer a couple of suggestions: it would be really helpful to have a list of recommended local eateries categorized by food type and cost. There are so many options in town, and it can be hard to know which are both delicious and reasonably priced. Also, a few simple walking maps showing types of shops would be a nice touch—we happened upon a lovely fabric shop and a few cute coffee spots by chance, and a little guide would make those discoveries even easier. Overall, a cozy, well-thought-out place to stay. I'd happily return!

Great accommodation
The house is in a quiet residential part of Tanabe and a little bit away from the train station area. The owners are very friendly and helped me with dinner recommendations that night. The shared facilities were very nice and my private room was quite spacious with my own private toilet. Despite the 15 min walk from the Kii-Tanabe station to get to the house, I had a peaceful night sleep and a truly authentic experience; I'm glad I stayed here. The okonomiyaki place down the road is great also!

父親が田辺市紺屋町生まれなので実家に帰省と墓参りと家族旅行を兼ねて、いつもは紺屋町屋に泊まっていましたが予約がいっぱいだったため、今回はじめてあたい川に泊まりましたが部屋も広く家電も揃っていたように感じました。 特に駐車スペースの広さと駐車場から歩かなくてよい点は、足の悪い父親にとっては大きなメリットでした

Amazing Stay
The host is amazing - very kind, attention to details, and shows demonstrates what an amazing hospitality really means. The location is slightly away from the main site of Tanabe but there are plenty of nice local restaurants nearby. Facilities are nice, clean and cozy. I highly recommend this place to anyone staying in Tanabe!
