With such amazing hosts as Naoko and Koji, our stay in Chikatsuyu couldn’t have been better. Naoko cooked the most amazing food for us, they had dinner with us aswell, so it felt like a family meal. We had great conversations as they have a very good level of English, and makes it easy to build a connection with them. We slept also amazing in the rooms, which were quite spacious and super quiet. The shower and place was also clean and we could wash and dry our clothes there. The breakfast and lunch for the next day was also super delicious (mecha mecha Oishi 😇), which made it super convenient for the day. Finally, we went to catch the bus as it was raining a lot, and Koji offered us to drive us if the bus was full, but it wasn’t necessary in the end. All in all, 10 out of 10. If you have the chance to book this accomodation, please do, it was the most welcomed and comfortable we felt during the Kumano Kodo.

The homestay is run by a very nice couple. The place is very clean and we appreciated that there is a sink in the room. Size of room is okay. They also provide self service laundry which was helpful. Located smack in the town of Chikatsuyu. The food provided by the wife was delicious and they served us the plum wine during dinner. Had a good chat with them although their English is limited. Very hospitable couple.

Staying with Koji and Naoko was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. Their guest house is beautiful and thoughtfully designed. The meals were exceptional and thoughtfully accommodated our allergies. We enjoyed getting to talk to them over meals and learn more about their home and their lives. We are so grateful for the time we got to spend with them and their incredible hospitality.
