Great hostel
This hostel has everything you need. Great private onsens, nice sitting area, clean space. People are friendly and respectful. Dorms were coed which I didn’t expect.
Thank you for your review. The dorms are mixed gender, so this means coed, men and women in the same room. We apologize if the terminology was difficult to understand.

A Perfect Place to Relax After a Day on the Kumano Kodo
Despite being a guesthouse with shared dormitory rooms, J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse offers everything a hiker could wish for after a long day walking the Kumano Kodo. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by a warm, friendly, and welcoming staff. Their hospitality immediately made me feel comfortable and at home. One of the greatest highlights of the guesthouse is undoubtedly the presence of three wonderful onsen. They are clean, welcoming, and incredibly relaxing—exactly what a tired walker needs after spending hours on the trail. Having the opportunity to soak in a hot onsen surrounded by the atmosphere of Yunomine Onsen was one of the most enjoyable parts of my stay. The guesthouse is also very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Everything feels organized and thoughtfully designed to make guests feel at ease. Another feature I particularly appreciated is the shared kitchen and the beautiful Japanese-style common room, where guests can have their meals, relax, and chat with other travellers. This creates a wonderful atmosphere of sharing and makes it easy to meet people from different parts of the world who are experiencing the Kumano Kodo. I was also impressed by the self-service system for purchasing food and drinks. Guests can simply take what they need and pay accordingly. It may seem like a small detail, but I found it to be a beautiful example of mutual trust between the accommodation and its guests. In a world where everything often needs to be controlled, this simple gesture feels particularly genuine and exemplary. What I appreciated most is that the guesthouse doesn't try to offer luxury—it offers something perhaps even more valuable for a Kumano Kodo walker: warmth, authenticity, relaxation, cleanliness, and a sense of community. After a long day on the trail, being able to take a hot bath in an onsen, prepare or enjoy something in the shared kitchen, sit in the Japanese-style lounge, and exchange stories with fellow hikers is exactly the kind of experience that makes a journey like the Kumano Kodo so special. Highly recommended for anyone walking the Kumano Kodo, especially those looking for a clean, welcoming, authentic, and sociable place to rest and recharge. J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse was a wonderful part of my journey.

We had a little misundestanding about the luggage service. I wish they have a shoe spray or better ventilation around the shoe rack. Some shoes smells after a long hike. The smell was unbearable.

Great guesthouse with Onsen!
Fantastic time in this guesthouse! The location was really good (village is very small) to experience a more local, authentic Japan. Guesthouse was really spacious with big kitchen and common room. Dorms were spacious and clean, kind of giving a « capsule » vibe. Onsen were easy to access as no booking required and there are 3 in total so it’s easy to get access to one. Staff spoke well English & were very friendly.
