Madre tierra is an absolute gem of a guesthouse. While not necessary to stay there for the kumano kodo, if you have the time, I would add an extra night to your trip to stay there. Sato is a wonderful, inspiring host, and the accommodation is a short drive from Nachisan, with Sato picking us up from the waterfall after a long walk from koguchi. She welcomes you into her home so graciously, and has put real effort into making it a comfortable space. Food was delicious, and there is something magical about sitting eating dinner on the balcony overlooking tea and rice paddy fields, with the forested mountains in the distance. Comms were excellent, and her English is and Spanish is very good. Basic facilities however with a compost loo and a separate shower room, but certainly comfortable and clean. We wish we could have stayed longer!
