Free ice cream!
I was so unsure how I would feel physically after day 4 of the Nakahechi route so was incredibly grateful I scored lodging right there in Nachi. What a wonderful place. Such attentive and helpful staff! Great dinner and breakfast. Lovely room with a view and easily walkable to anything I needed.

Amazing meals with Nachi Falls views
The perfect final stay. We had a warm reception, and I was so happy the staff spoke with me in Japanese the whole time. Our tatami room was clean, the futons comfortable, and we had a beautiful view of Nachi Falls. The onsen area was spacious and immaculate, and the onsen itself was hot, just what we needed after days of hiking. We wore yukata throughout our stay. Dinner and breakfast were amazing.Hhighlights included soba with mountain vegetables served with a little fire pot at the table with explanations of each dish in both Japanese and English. The unexpected bonus: unlimited ice cream, which we absolutely took advantage of. A memorable finish to the Kumano Kodo.

Enjoyable Finale
To be honest based on the cost, our expectations were quite high, but the room whilst clean and comfortable was quite small, and the onsen was tiny (2 people maximum) with no access in the morning. However the staff were excellent and the meals were delicious accompanied by very good local sake from Shingu, as well as free-flow ice cream from the fridge. A convenient place to stay at the Kumano Kudo finale, but the cost is simply a reflection of limited options close to the Nachi Grand Shrine. Thank you.

Much needed reset after day 5
This place is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and book this instead of getting on a bus ride to get into town. Day 5 is a steep ascent and long hike. It is also very likely to rain, as the rain comes in this part of the mountain most days. When we got here, I could not imagine having to sit on a bus in my wet clothes while I was tired. This place was a godsend. They have thought of everything. For a very small fee; you can do laundry. They give you things to dry your shoes and yourself. The rooms and the Onsen overlook the waterfall. One of the best parts is; you can head back over to the temple after breakfast. We caught it as it was opening and had the place almost to ourselves. Not to mention, we’re much happier after a hot shower and fresh clothes.
