Best meal and great host.
We had a lovely stay at Joe place. He is a great cook..all 3 meals prepared by him were the best we had in our trek. Although it is 10 mins walk to the koguchi trail point.. it is no problem to us. Joe also wanted to took us to a 15 meditation at the temple which was really nice..he is so kind to drive us to collect stamp which save us heaps of time catching the bus..his kindness is greatly appreciated. Definitely recommend this place.

The host was very courteous and helpful. Every meal was out of expectation and out of the world, making this home a must. Creating a yearning to return.

Pilgrims Joe | Supper, Breakfast & Lunch box
John is a wonderful host - very kind and hospitable. As many have mentioned, he's also an incredible cook - restaurant-quality meals deep in the hills of the Nakahechi route! And what a lunch-box, too... Everything about our stay was excellent, in particular the visit to the local shrine (organised between John and the resident monk) which was a very memorable and special experience. We felt very lucky to be able to stay here and it really was a highlight of our trip. The western-style room was very large and comfortable; I'd recommend this option. I wish John all the best and hope he is able to achieve his own dreams of travelling around the world soon!

Wonderful experience
We had a wonderful time at the minshuku. The food and hospitality were amazing. The bath and restroom are shared. The room is quite small, but you have everything you need. The location is in a desolate, residential part of town, but close to the trail head. We had an idyllic evening in the futons with the window open staring at the heavy rain.

Rustic guesthouse, outside of Koguchi
The host is amazing and friendly. Only two groups/couples can stay here. The food is prepared with a lot of love. Dinner was great and breakfast was good (slightly small portion), while the lunch box was a bit disappointing (the least nourishing lunch we had on the entire trip). It is located around 800 m outside of Koguchi, which is no problem at all.
