Worth the detour
Great hotel/onsen that although might detract a bit from the pilgrimage atmosphere of the Kumano Kodo, provides excellent accomodation, food and onsen. The added bonus are the beautiful views of the Kumano river from the shuttle van on the road from Koguchi, which was one of my favourite parts of the trip.

Comfortable stay with amazing dinner
Quite far from the Koguchi trailhead, so make sure you catch the shuttle, though they are very thorough in making sure all their guests are picked up. Even the views from the shuttle ride were very interesting. The place is like a spa hotel, with a large onsen with indoor and outdoor sections. There's also a laundry room which you can use for free. I recommend getting the meal option, in part because there's not really any outside options close by (though you can buy instant noodles, etc. near the reception), and because the food they provide at their restaurant is absolutely delicious, totally worth the stay there. Very friendly staff too.

This is another excellent place to stay, especially for people who loves onsen!

Wonderful stay.
This place is a humble yet wonderful stay. Very kind reception staff. Explained things very well. Very comfortable rooms and dinner was wonderful. They were even able to organise a massage for my partner and I which I couldn’t recommend more. As it was the night prior to the big up hill day, our legs were all ready to go. Masseuse was amazing. The shuttle the next morning wasn’t leaving early enough for us, and the staff helped us organise a taxi for us to Koguchi early the next day. The transfer was ready at Koguchi for us on arrival after our walk.

Far away but with an amazing outside onsen
Even if it was far away they gave us a shuttle from the end/start of the treck to the hotel. We were a bit worried about that due to the recommendation of starting before 8 and the fact that the shuttle (there was only one) left us there at 8:10. They were friendly and even without us had it booked it before, we were able to ship our bag to the next hotel. There was an outside onsen where you could see the moon while bathing.
