Worth the shuttle
We loved the converted building, and the outdoor onsen. We also were really excited about wading in the creek behind the house. If you have the time to deal with the shuttles, since they aren't close to much, it's a worthy diversion.

perfect spa!
Me hospedei aí quando cheguei em Koguchi, chamei facilmente o transporte no telefone publico bem perto do café "Kumoma café". Enquanto esperava, tomei um café delicioso, troquei ideia com locais, uma luz e ambiente inspiradores. Depois, a viagem até a guest house em van foi belíssima: passando pelo Kumano River. Chegando lá, achei o quarto com bastante cheiro de mofo, abri janelas pra ventilar, dormi de máscara pois sou muito alérgica. Mas o spa compensou completamente tudo! Excelente. Um onsen interno e outro ao ar livre de frente pra montanha, foi incrível. Tinha mercadinho com conveniências, lavandeira e um bom espaço para secar a roupa, na máquina e ao ar livre. Estrutura mais antiga, mas bem completa, silenciosa, agradável. Como dependemos do transporte da guest house pra voltar para a trilha, achei o café da manhã um pouco tarde, muito corrido pra sair na sequência. Mas eu repetiria a experiência com certeza :)

Since we had to rely on the guest house’s shuttle to get back to the trail, I thought breakfast was a little late—it was too rushed to head out right after. But I’d definitely do it again :)

There were some reservations about this place because it was so far removed from the trail, but the location was scenic and the meals and service was best of the trip.

Great food and service
Great service, nice staff, shuttle to and from Koguchi was smooth. The shuttle was there for us so we didn't even need to phone the hotel. Food (dinner, breakfast, and lunch) was great and of good portion. Only conplaint is that the room was small for 5 people. Not much floor space left after 5 futon was made. No toilet / sink in room as it was a traditional old onsen hotel.

Best onsen
If you don’t mind a 30 minute shuttle to and from the trailhead then this place is great. The outdoor onsen was the best part. So peaceful next to a river and a forest.

Shuttle waited for us on time as reserved and took us to the hotel. A free shuttle was also provided the next morning to the train station (as we finished our walk). Onsen is great. Meals OK. The sauna was a great experience!
