Highly recommend!

Everything went smoothly. We flew into SHM and took the 1.5 hour bus to Takijiri to drop off bags as instructed The drop off place is on the left hand side when you cross the bridge - right across the visitor center as noted. There’s a sign that says luggage transfer right in front of a little shop so you can’t miss it! Owner is very friendly. We got there at 10:53 and he did not rush us at all. Great service.

So pleased we used this service

Multiple times during our walk I was thankful that we had used the luggage transfer service. The weather was very hot and we were always soaked through with sweat. This day we walked 27km. Carrying our packs as we normally do would have made it a miserable slog. Instead we had light day bags and could really enjoy the pilgrimage. This service is wonderful, we left our bags at the accomodation each morning and when we arrived at the next place they were sitting in the room. So easy.

Luggage Service

Throughout the trip the luggage service was TOP NOTCH and so convenient. Another group actually requested luggage service after having seen that we had luggage service. We never had any issue with the services and the additional wooden “Prefectural Pass” was a very nice touch to the service. It really made us think about the history of the region.

Luggage transport - make sure you use it

This is a very good service for handling your luggage from one place to another. You cannot carry any more than a reasonable backpack on the trail. Make sure you book it ahead of time.

Efficient and hassle-free shuttle

This was the oerfect way to have access to our luggage when we needed it and saved us the hassle of backtracking after the various legs of the Kumano Kodo. The shuttle service is run by the people who own the small cafe across the road from the Takijiri Info Centre and they are up early to take your luggage. You can get a coffee there too while you wait for the Info Centre to open if you need to get your temple ‘passport” before you start up the hill. Luggage arrived safe and sound at all the destinations we had arranged. Highly recommended.

Good service. Wish to be able to make spontaneous decisions about the luggege service without advance commitment

I walked 800km of "Camino de Santiago" pilgrimage in Spain, and the luggage service was 5 Euro per day with no advance commitment, no advance payment. The morning of departure, all I had to do was to place a special tag with the destination, and give to the inn owner where I stayed. I wish to have this kind of spontaneous service at Kumano Kodo for more flexibility. This way, we could increase the number of luggage to ship, or decide to walk with our luggage based on how we are doing during the walk.

all my luggage arrived on time, in perfect condition. The employees at the Tanabe city office who took my reservation were SOOOO friendly, efficient and helpful!! I had forgotten my contact lense solution and case at the last place I stayed and one woman working there accompanied me to some shops to find some! As I don't speak japanese, this was a huge help. They went out of their ways to help me. I never felt that anything but a high quality trustworthy service would be provided, my mind was always totally at ease. :-) my only drawback is that it is expensive, but it was nice to hike without worrying about luggage. As I was travelling all over Japan, simply bringing my hiking backpack was not possible, this is a great service to allow someone to hike the Kumano Kodo, and continue on with their travels.

Super easy, super friendly

I was greeted by name, when we arrived at the Anchan-Shop, which is located right at the start of the Kumano Kodo route from Takijiri-Oji. We got tags made from wood for our luggage to identify it, and with that, the "baggage drop" was done. The owners are very welcoming and the souvenir shop offers, well, souvenirs, but also useful equipment. I got a bamboo walking stick (light and stable), which I would recommend, since the first hour of the trail and some parts later on are very steep. They also have a cat.

Excellent service

I was met at the bus stop in Takijiri-oji by a smiling young woman with an umbrella, and escorted to the Kodo-no-Mori shop where I left my luggage, confirming the details of where it was to be sent for the next 3 nights. A wooden tag was attached, and this is now one of my Kumano Kodo souvenirs. When I arrived 2 hours later at Takahara, my bag was in my room.

Great Service!

The shuttle service is great and very efficient. We are used to backpacking with our heavy packs, so this felt like luxury! We used the service twice, and both times our luggage was waiting for us at our accommodation by the time we got there in the evening. Drop-off was easy. The shop is easy to find and very close to the bus stop and trailhead.

Excellent and Effective Luggage Shuttle Service

Kodo-no-Mori effortlessly arranged the transportation of our luggage so that it was simply waiting for us at each of our stays along the Kumano Kodo route. Their staff were friendly and helpful and gladly took pictures of us before we began our trip. The small souvenir bag tags made of maple from the trail were an added bonus.

Perfect luggage shuttle

During all the three days of the kumano kodo walk our bags were delivered at the guest houses perfectly. At the day of arrival the owner awaited us and we received some beautifully handwritten wooden luggage tags with all the guest houses written on.

Very convenient luggage shuttle service

I used this service to get my big backpack from Takijiri to Hongu, where I stayed on the following day after 2 days of walking the Kumano Kodo, which was extremely convenient since the area is mountainous, and I would not have been able to carry my bag all the way. There was no problem with the transportation, I had my bag as soon as I arrived at my guesthouse in Hongu, where it was delivered. The staff was also very friendly and they gave me a small souvenir of the region.

Good services from Kodo-no-Mori, less from Kumano travel agency

Realy good services from Kodo-no-Mori: easy to find,nice welcome, luggages on time at arrival, good price for services Nevertheless, Kumano travel agency do not accept to manage luggages transfer if you do not book the accomodation with them ... it looks like a monopole business!, and not convenient for travelers like us. Especially when Kumano travel was not able to accept reservation during more than one week for their website maintenance

We shipped our luggage along the Kumano Kodo trek from the small store across the street from the Welcome Center at the start of the trek manned by a local farmer and then from Chikatsuyu to Kawayu. Highly recommend using this service, it was great not to carry the heavy luggage along the trek and they were always waiting for us at our next destination. Highly recommend shipping your luggage from this local farmer and shop owner. It is less expensive than the other luggage transfer options in the area and he used a handmade, wooden transfer tag that can double as a really great souvenir. He even made us coffee as we perused his shop full of local souvenirs at reasonable prices.
