A beautiful 2 bedroom guest house. Lovely comfortable beds perfect after a tough day walking. Aki greeted us with such warmth and even ran us a bath to ease our tired limes. Beautiful meal and companionship
We had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse. One of the most special parts of the experience was the sense of community — sharing the evening with fellow hikers and enjoying a communal meal together made the stay feel truly memorable.
The meal itself was absolutely fabulous, and I was so grateful for the care and thoughtfulness shown in catering for my vegetarian diet. The hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable and well looked after from the moment we arrived.
The location is magical — it even snowed while we were there, which made the experience feel even more special and atmospheric.

Aki is the best!
I had an absolutely wonderful time here. The food was phenomenal, probably the best I’ve had during my entire two-week stay in Japan. Aki went above and beyond. When she learned that I planned to take the bus to get to a shortcut starting point for Kumano trail, she offered to drive me to the starting spot instead. How kind of her! Moreover, I unfortunately forgot my hiking poles and accepted that I probably won’t get them back, then the poles showed up at my next hotel because Aki/Tomo drove to my next hotel to deliver. I felt guilty that they drove all the way but I really appreciated it because it made a huge difference to the hiking experience. Thank you Aki and Tomo!

Great place, delicious food and comfortable bed. I love the fact that the Hiyodori guest house was right on the trail, so no need to go off track and search for it. We got the bento box for lunch the next day, and we love it! We felt very welcome and honored. We decided to skip the portion of the trail that was a road walk and went straight for the trail hike at the bridge, hostess was very kind and gave us a ride to the trail head in the morning.

Aki was a kind, wonderful host and helped us all dry out our hiking shoes and warm up after a long day of hiking in the rain. The guesthouse is located directly along the Kumano Kodo path which was very convenient. The meals were really delicious, the bed was cozy, and the view of the mountains outside was beautiful. Aki also helped us all plan out our next day of hiking which was much appreciated.

Great Hospitality and Much Appreciated Support
The accommodation is conveniently directly on the path. In addition to the shower there is an onsen bathtub. The home cooked Japanese meal was plentiful and delicious, for the small group of 8 pilgrims staying. The hosts were very kind and thoughtful, including providing transportation to a trailhead further up the way that saved us a few km walking or a walk + bus ride on a very long and rainy day.

The housekeeper here is incredibly kind and attentive. She was very enthusiastic in helping us plan our itinerary for the next day and even prepared the bathtub with hot water for us before we went to shower. Her thoughtfulness and hospitality made us feel truly taken care of.

Best Guest House we stayed in anywhere in Japan
This was our favourite Homestay - Aki was extremely helpful and helped us to Navigate the walk and public Transport . She Even picked me up when the Bus was too Full and Drove me to my next Destination as I was injured.
The Food was delicious Japanese food for Dinner, breakfast and lunch. The accomodation was comfortable, clean and relaxed.
I would highly recommend this accomodation.

Friendly and social atmosphere
All the meals are served in a common area with the rest of the guests. It was nice to chat with fellow hikers from all over. The meals were very good. Breakfast was more western style (hash brown, English muffin etc) for our stay.
Our room was quiet and comfortable with AC. Shower room was shared with the other guests. We had our own toilet not sure if that was the case for the other guests. We did a small load of laundry (wash only) for 300 yen.
The host was incredibly friendly and even helped explain the trail for the next day and helped people coordinate bus routes and hiking routes.
There was also a cold water dispenser/cooler that we used to fill up our water bottles for the hike the next morning. Highly recommended this stay!

Wonderful hosts that went out of their way to make us feel welcome! After a wet day, they directed us straight to the shower, and while drying up they took our smelly, wet boots and set them on a shoe drying machine. Dinner was delicious and the cutely packed lunch was just what we needed on the trail! Common area was also comfortable to relax in. Would definitely recommend staying here!

After more than 2 km, I was asking direction to a lady at the tea house. She realised, about my mistake and called the host
I began to walk back and then it starte to rain.
Very kindly the host when to meet me on the road so I didnt get wet.
She was also very nice answering questions about the track for the next day.

Very cozy guest house located right on the Nakahechi trail, very easy to find. The couple that ran the place were exceptionally kind and even offered to drive me to the bus stop in the morning. The meals were fantastic and they had prepared a hot bath for the guests who were coming off a long day of hiking. Loved the place and especially the hosts, was very grateful to stay here.

The guest house was very attractive and comfortable, the location was extremely convenient right next to the road, our hosts were friendly, communicative, and helpful, and the food was delicious. Since we had to catch a bus from Hongu to our next day's lodging, our hosts offered to drive us to a trailhead slightly further along. Walking the KUMANO Kodo, the property is right on the trail.
We were greeted by the most wonderful hosts, the accommodation was fantastic.
The meals prepared for us were some of the best food we had in our trip to Japan.
I cannot rate this accommodation highly enough.

Our favorite guesthouse
Aki is an impeccable host! We had a wonderful stay at Hiydori. It is located right along Kumano Kodo so it was very easy to find. Aki is a gracious host and an excellent cook. The dinner she prepared for us was so fresh and delicious. She also prepared a warm bath for us when we arrived from a cold and wet day of hiking. Everything was wonderful!

Amazing and lovely hosts!
The stay at the Hiyodori Guesthouse was amazing. The hosts are so lovely two persons. Since we arrived on a day it was raining the whole time they directly showed us the bathing room and let some water in the bathtub taking care of us beeing frozen to the bones. The food they prepared afterward was one of the best dinners we've had in the three week stay in Japan. Overall, they were super lovely and kind! Best wishes from Jude and Bruno.

Best stay directly on the Kumano Kodo with wonderful hosts
I loved staying at this guest house! The hosts are wonderful and put in a lot of extra effort! The meals were absolutely amazing. The bath was lovely for a good soak, and I enjoyed sitting in the common areas. I highly recommend staying here when you walk the Nakahechi path.

Aki and her family were very friendly, welcoming hosts. They took good care that we had a nice stay and prepared excellent food for us with lots of passion - in the evening and morning. If you have the chance to stay at their house, please do so!

Amazing experience
Our stay at Guest House Hiyodori was absolutely wonderful. The house was incredibly comfortable and clean. The hosts were exceptionally kind and welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. The food was amazing, with a wide variety of dishes that made every bite worth it, making it the perfect retreat after a long day of hiking. The hosts were so thoughtful—they used a dehumidifier to help dry our wet clothes and offered excellent advice on the walking routes and stamp collection points. The soothing bath was a lifesaver, helping to ease the fatigue from the hike. After dinner, we enjoyed delightful conversations with the host. The next day, as the rain continued, the host kindly drove us to a point, saving us from the slippery paths. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re planning to walk the trail, don’t miss the chance to stay here!

中辺路の旅で利用
中辺路の旅、2日目で利用しました。熊野古道のルート上にあり、立地は素晴らしいです。接客も非常によかったです。部屋も広くて、食事も美味しかったです。滝尻からの中辺路ルートは、平日でも宿の予約確保が難しいエリアでした。
