Charming Business Hotel
Hotel Charmant is a small hotel very close to the JR Kii-Katsuura Station. It has well maintained rooms and is a convenient base for visiting the area and for those beginning/ending a multi-day walk on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route to/from Hongu. There are no evening meals so guests can explore the small restaurants which are famous for their fresh seafood close by. The friendly owners do not speak any English, but are very hospitable to international visitors.

Cozy hotel by the JR station
The hotel room was small, but it was a great place to retire to after completing the Kumano Kodo. It is right by the JR station/bus stops. Reception was easy and there is free luggage storage.

Nice hotel with great location
Very nice and helpful staff! They gave us great information about the town and tips about restaurants and things to do. The room could be a bit updated but it had everything we needed so it was fine for us. Great location and easy check in and out.

This is a very simple wee hotel with basic rooms but each had their own ensuite which was good. The people were incredibly helpful. We chose not to eat here as was a small seaside village with lots of good seafood restaurants to choose from.

Great value
Although the room was dated and had no view, the value of the hotel was fantastic. The location was great. They were very helpful with us leaving our luggage in the morning and on checkin. They gave recommendations on the restaurants which was very appreciated. It was great to not sleep on the floor and also have our own bathroom. There was no meals included. It was easy to find meals outside.

Great stay
We were very happy with our rooms. It was a great value for the price and we did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised at how great the bathroom was and the variety of tea/coffee selection in the room. The western style beds were comfortable and the ac-heat unit worked well. The unit was also very clean even though it was an older hotel. The bathroom was updated and even had a clothes drying mode - the only one we had seen like this! The reception was very friendly when we checked in, and he had a great map and suggested route for the Nachisan hike as well as restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.

A quiet stay in the heart of Kii Katsuura
This was the perfect spot to enjoy the restaurants and fish around the town, Easily within walking distance to the train station and all the restaurants, it’s the perfect place for tired, foot- sore pilgrims. The lady at the front desk was incredibly kind, giving us ample information about the restaurants in the area, and she let us keep our bags in the lockers even after we had checked out!

Hotel Charmant lacks charm
Hotel Charmant is the worst place we stayed on the Kumano Kodo hike. The room is a closet with no windows. Felt dark and claustrophobic. Reception lady spoke no English and made no attempt to be helpful. The only positive for this hotel is its proximity to the train station. However, Katsura is a small place many other hotels will not be too far out.

Convenient location for a rest day after the KK
This is a basic hotel in a good location. Easy walk (a few minutes) to the train station. We used it as a base to explore the town and go to the tuna auction. Note there are stairs to the guest rooms, a challenge for tired legs!

Fourth day on Kumano Kodo
Was not expecting much but was really happy with the experience. we were able to check in at 100pm and the hotel reception was excellent, Gave us loads of information about getting to the shrine and restaurants in Kii Katsuura. On first glance the hotel is very dated but the room was clean , the bathroom was modern ( obvious recent reno) and the beds were comfortable. Location great as a 2 minute walk to the train station and same to the fishing port. would have loved to been able to spend more time in Kii Katsuura to attend tuna auction. Would definitely recommend Hotel Charmant as long as you can put aside the small negatives re appearnce.As an aside ate dinner at Ichiran opposite hotel. a terrific izakaya with excellent food and service. a highlight meal

No-frills accommodation with all the basics you need
Hotel Charmant was well situated near Kii-katsuura station and a short stroll from the waterfront and its foot baths. There are plentiful restaurants and izakaya nearby and the township is charmingly old-school and picturesque. The room was basic but that is not a criticism, it was everything we needed to refresh and recharge. The free laundry facilities on the rooftop were a bonus.

Simple hotel that worked well for us
Hotel Charmant was well located in the town centre, clean, but fairly simple. It is not serviced all the time, we had to call for reception when we arrived, but staff arrived quickly. That was the only time we saw anyone during the 2 nights we stayed. We did not use any dining facilities. For a simple base to explore the town, and be close to the station for an early morning train departure it was fine.

The owner was really nice and even though she didn’t speaks English she had some pre-made papers in English explaining everything. She even had one paper explaining how the A/C worked! I really liked that. We stayed in a 3 bed room. The last bed had, however, a really terrible and thin matras. I had to ask for an extra mattress which helped, but only a bit. The other two beds were fine. Location was top - just a few minutes away from the train station.

The rooms on floor 1 and 2 are right against another building and very dark. I was sick and spent a lot of time in the rooms and it was unpleasant and I would not stay there again. However, I moved to a room on floor 3 once it became available, and these were amazing rooms with a lot of natural light.

Great location.
The Hotel was very close to the train and bus stations. The check-in was good, with tourist attractions explained. The room was fully equipped. There were washers and tumblers on the rooftop, 500 Yen. Guests could use lockers to deposit luggage after checking out. The only drawback is cleanliness as the hotel didn't empty the bin of the previous female guest.

The female owner was kind to show me simple hand-drawn map, places to eat and onsen. She gave me option to choose between 2nd or 3rd floor, with or without view. I can understand why. There is no elevator. She seems to be in her 70s. Yet, she helped to carry my 11 kg of luggage when I went to check 2nd floor room. She was very kind to pick up my tiredness after travelling almost non-stop to reach Katsuura. I had not taken my breakfast nor lunch. I was moved by her warm heart. The room was neat and clean. The bathroom is well-maintained with sensor tap to save water when not in use, environmental friendly. The location is near the harbour, less than 5 min walk away. I was rejuvenated when i reached the harbour, greeted by vast sea and immense mountains. There are Lawson convenience store and fish auction, not far from harbour. The town is very quiet in the morning with a few shops open. Luckily, there are a few cafes that offer traditional breakfast. And lovely smells from cafes at night, warm food are served.

A good location with basic, clean accommodation
It seemed that we were the only guests- the lady at the desk was very helpful- however it seemed a little run- down . There is no service unless you ring her, as it is understaffed. The location in the middle of town is great as there are fish restaurants everywhere.

Good overall stay for one night
We stayed one night passing through Kii-Katsuura. The location is excellent, a very short walk from the JR station and from the port. The lady who checked us in was great, very friendly, and offered information on restaurants and activities. The room was spacious and well-equipped. It's an older hotel, which leads us to our one problem. The room we had smelled badly of smoking, which was a significant negative for us. If not for that it would have been a fine stay.

Cute little hotel
This hotel was in a really good location in Kii Katsuura. It was so close to the station and the fish market and a ton of restaurants. The lady who runs it was so nice and friendly. She answered any questions that we had (she doesn't speak a lot of English, but a few of our group spoke Japanese) and was very helpful. The rooms were a little bit dated, but very comfortable and had everything we needed. The breakfast was pretty basic, but each night we were offered zenzai and it was really good! Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

An English style hotel in Japan
My room had no window so instead there was a digital window with an image of an outside scene. The room was sufficient but lacking natural light was an issue. The staff were very kind and helpful.

Very close to the Kii-Katsura station. Rooms very clean and well equipped. WiFi is free and the baths have a tub too. Food was well put together considering I'm a vegan. Good service from the receptionist, who was well equipped with information and was able to provide me with maps and insider info on Kii-Katsura. Overall a positive experience.

An amazing welcome - cold orange juice, and more in the fridge. a lovely sweet bean soup - complimentary, and a delicious breakfast, with free refills of coffee and toast. A great stay with very friendly reception
We stayed 2 nights, the hotel was in an excellent location near the station and fish market and pier. We were allowed free use of the washing machine and dryer and were able to organise tickets to some of the onsens in the district. The hotel was even able to organise to have our luggage sent ahead to Hiroshima so we could travel to Koyasan with only an overnight pack for 2 nights.

Good location, pleasant
We stayed two nights here at the end of our trip. Our room had western style twin beds and was small but fine. The place is an easy walk from the train station and also close to the fishing pier where large tuna are often the main attraction. The day we visited we were lucky enough to see the annual lobster festival which was fun. There are lots of small stores and restaurants in town.

Great little hotel and warm welcome

Location, close to the railway station, which was our requirement. But it's also close to the very impressive fish market you need to visit in the early morning Reception : excellent, enjoying a welcome tea + biscuits. we only had breakfast, more european than japanese. For the supper, the host adviced an excellent typical restaurant nearby... The room is cosy, we appreciate the light on the panel in front of the bed Baths : not tested, we have been sent to the public bath, which is quite far from, and uneasy to find.

Final stay on my Kumano Kodo trip. Room was clean and comfortable, free use of washing machines much appreciated, perfect central location for exploring the town and then up to Nachi Taisha. Hostess had a series of multilingual ‘cheat sheets’ that made communication a breeze, and she took great pride in the breakfast. She will give you excellent suggestions for where to dine as well. Try and see the tuna auction in the morning if you’re up early enough.

Good service and location
We stayed here for one night after completing Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. The location is great, about 100 meters from the bus/train station. The owner (at least I think she was the owner) was very helpful with maps, dining suggestions, and other requests). The western-style rooms were clean and had everything we needed, though they certainly are not luxurious and didn't have any view. In sum, this place was perfectly adequate and very convenient for an overnight stay between legs of our journey.

What a great little place. Super convenient and easy to find, close to the train station No English spoken but plenty of written instructions in English. Western Stlye Room
Hotel is located right next to the train station, which was ideal for me. The room has a western style bed, Private bathroom/ shower. It was very nice way to end my hike. I was ready to not sleep on the floor and share a bathroom. The night staff was a really nice women. English was not the best, but her attitude was the best. She was able to help me find food before the restaurants opened, and then recommended a great restaurant/meal in the evening. She also prepare a welcome soup. Sounded really strange, but why not? The soup was a sweet bean soup. I would never have ordered it on my own, but I really liked it! As mentioned before, no food at the hotel so you need to go out. Which was nice to be able to pick what you want to eat after a few days of set menus.

Elegant place but beware of smokers
This place is great value for money. Despite it being a small hotel, the place is definitely fitted akin to a 5-star hotel! The furnishings are very refined & elegant. The room we stayed in did not have any actual windows but the owner took the trouble to install a virtual window which was interesting. Breakfast was hearty and we also had zenzai as a welcome dessert. Everything was very clean & well maintained. The rooms are a little small but not very different from those you would get in Tokyo. The only thing I disliked was that they allowed people to smoke in the common corridor which made the place really smelly.

Charming hotel
In an excellent location on the street leading directly from the station to the harbour, this little hotel is clean and a really great place to stay in Katsuura. The welcome was friendly, my room was clean with a comfortable bed. There was a TV, hairdryer, kettle with tea and coffee provided. The bathroom had a tub and shower. I was offered a free cup of zenzai soup that evening before I went out for dinner (I went to Bodai, just up the street by the station). Breakfast the next morning was good, with plenty of choice and extra toast if wanted. A great find, at a very good price.

What wonderful service!
I loved the owner who checked me in. She was just so lovely and wonderful. I also very much enjoyed the breakfast. Lovely small hotel near the station. Such friendly hosts and rooms were simple, clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed breakfast as a bit of a western touch which we were craving- all served on lovely crockery. Glad we stayed here and not in Nachi. You could always return by bus to Nachi if you wanted to explore that area. Our group really enjoyed the fish markets (go before 8) plus wandering the town in the morning. Sitting in the sun after a foot bath was most relaxing.

Easy to find 2 mins from bus and train station. Beautiful check in with lovely ladies . Welcome drink and snack in front room. Rooms clean and have tea and kettle. bathrooms clean and good. The hotel is sandwiched between another building so windows don't let in much light but l didn't feel claustrophobic. Limited english but they have it all sorted on english cards all that you could want. Loved this town with tuna market and freaky onset hotel across on island. Charming hotel
My family and I stayed at this charming hotel for our Kumano Kotsu sightseeing tour (via bus). It was a short walk away from the JR station and the bus station, and literally impossible to miss with its bright yellow facade. The triple room was cozy but was barely big enough to fit my family and our three large luggage. It would probably be a perfectly sized room if we traveled lighter. By far my favorite thing about this hotel though is their breakfast. It was simple but delicious and quite hearty. The sweet Japanese ladies who run this hotel (and the kitchen) are also quite helpful and try to give suggestions despite the language barrier.

A beautiful, little place - has got the right name: charming!
Everything perfect at a very reasonable price. The owner speaks very little english, but she has organised everything so well with all the information sheets she has prepared that this is no problem. Very near to the station and to the port. We enjoyed our stay in Katsuuri very much.

Cutest granny hotel!
Hotel Charmant was such a cute, cozy place, run by a nice elderly lady who is always interested in your convenience. Though not really speaking English at the reception, everything is handeled well and all your wishes are met. Katsuura is by the way the most beautiful town I have seen in all my time in Japan. Definitely come here!

Older style hotel in the middle of town
Hotel Charmant is a small hotel located in a central area close to the railway station. It appeared to be well run. Rooms are small (by western standards) but appear to be recently updated. In out room the air conditioning was noisy and the small windows faced an adjoining wall.

Best thing is the location, do not recommend to stay in Katsuura
Found Katsuura to be a rather dim and dreary little town, do not recommend overnight if possible - we were on the 5D4N trip but completed our Daimonzaka part on Day 4 - better to head out earlier. Reception was warm but we were housed in an annex. Room looked new but smelled very very musty. Nice hot shower. Breakfast was ok but a bit overhyped from the other reviews.

Feel at home comfortable
Well kept cute hotel amid local area shops and about a real minute walk to the station. Was very impressed I that windows were quadruply panel which completely cut off any street noises. Free breakfast was not your normal free type breakfast - excellent assortment and It was individually served at your table. The owner made you welcomed immediately. Self serve lockers kept at reception desk if you should arrive early and no one immediately available. Overall great little hotel.

Convenient location and good breakfast
It's a five minute walk from the Kii-Katsuura train and bus station, and a 10 minute walk to the tuna market. Although the lady at the reception spoke limited english, she was able to answer our questions. The rooms are quite small, but it was clean and comfortable. They serve good breakfast.

Charming stay in a charming town
Loved our stay at Hotel Charmant. The welcome soup was such a treat and the lady running the place was really kind. We got botteled water and orange juice on our arrival and breakfast was a plateful of ham and toast, yougurt and fruits. Katsuura was a peaceful port town and Hotel Charmant is a mere 2 minute walk from the JR station. will definitely come back when I return!

Hotel Charmant, Kii Katsura and Nachi no Taki
Hotel Charmant was a lovely small hotel, clean and very welcoming. The lady at the desk was very helpful, gave lots of information in english print outs. The ferry to the hotel Nakoshima and Urashima were free, the onsen at Nakoshima hotel was lovely but since i reached at night, could not see view. Breakfast was really good, extra helpings of toast and tea/coffee available. Hotel within walking location to Fish market, foot onsen and restaurants. Bus to Nachi no Taki right near the train station, takes 1000 yen round trip. can choose to walk up the Daimon Zaka steps to the Nachi Taisha temple, then the waterfall and take the bus back. Not many tourists, place absolutely beautiful and peaceful and clean. All in all, a great short trip. only problem was that i had to take the connecting train to Kii Katsura from Tennoji, and the train from there to Kii Katsura is one train in 2 hours, and i missed two trains due to the train stopping there for a minute or two only, and i could not find the compartment i had to get on and in that time the train left, so had to wait 3 hours at the station in Tennoji. Wish there was more trains to go to Kii Katsura with less time in between.

Good for a night after walking the trail
We had a very good bed, and our own bathroom, which was exactly what we needed after a 5 day hike. it is very close to the station, so very convenient. The woman for the hotel was very friendly, and we had a good (Western) breakfast.

I was very happy to stay in Hotel Charmant after my Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. The staff in the reception was very nice, I really enjoyed the small welcoming sweet they offered us. They were very cheerful and always ready to help us. The location is good and the room was clean and confortable.

This was a clean, western style hotel in the center of town. Although there was not an onsen in the hotel, it was quite easy to use other onsen in town for those who wish. The room was quite clean and comfortable. Guests were offered a Japanese dessert upon arrival which was a kind gesture. Breakfast was western and there was the option to ask for more bread if needed. The owner was quite friendly and helpful. Also there were free lockers to store your luggage in which was quite convenient.

Charming and Pretty Hotel
We loved this charming hotel right in the middle of town. It is run by these very friendly, gentle and beaitiful ladies who prepared everything all by themselves. To overcome any language barriers, they thoughtfully translated and wrote all their messages in English. Breakfast was always delicious and beautifully presented. There were so many good restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner. Across the bay, it's an easy and free 5-minute boat ride to onsens on Hotel Urashima and Nakoshima. Very friendly town folks, as well.

Back to civilization
We came to Hotel Charmant at the end of our pilgimage. We had a real bed and though rooms are small as typical for Japan, it was comfortable. This hotel serves breakfast only, but breakfast is very good. For dinner, nearby are many restaurants and because Kii-Katsuura is an important tuna port, tuna is a must-have and soo fresh!!

A charming hotel
Room was clean and comfortable, just a few minutes from the train station. Lots of restaurants nearby and the fish auction is 5 minutes down the street. No elevator. Bathroom was small and oddly configured. But for the price with breakfast and an evening snack, Hotel Charmant was a bargain.

Low budget, high quality
This small hotel is conveniently situated and offers standards of accomodation, service and breakfast that represent excellent value. It is clean, and the breakfast is far more palatable to Europeans than the food provided in most small hotels in rural Japan. Its not the Hylton, but it is one of the better budget hotels.

Good clean affordable friendly western style business hotel although nothing special. Great location for super easy access to the city. I've got a serious problem with low Japanese door heights, and Hotel Charmant has the lowest room front doors in Japan about 165cm (I'm 185cm). I smashed my head twice causing serious concussion.

The room was excessively tiny but well kept, and the breakfast very nicely served. It was remarkably quiet when I was there, but beware of smoker rooms: I was given one, and it indeed reeked of cold tobacco. The location is excellent, nearby the harbor, but there is no onsen, in spite of the local hot springs fame.

The Hotel is quite what is says it is. The colours, the decoration, the breakfast, the rooms. There was not a single thing you could miss and the town is tranquil yet interesting. Do yourself the favour and try to stay more than one day after your Kumano Kodo experience.

Pleasant, family run hotel
The hotel is close to the station (about 3 mins walk) and is comfortable, quiet and clean. The one disadvantage was that the pillows were very hard. The manager is very welcoming and helpful. She gave us "welcome soup" on arrival and a map, bus timetable and restaurant recommendations. Breakfast was good and there were free refills of drinks and toast. We enjoyed our stay.

American style hotel even had instant coffee in room. After walking Kumano Kodo and then losing son (more walking) The lady on Reception advised us "third floor room, no lift" The room was very plain though comfortable and breakfast in the morning was European style and very nice, especially the toast. Katsuura fish market was very interesting to walk around and not crowded.

Make sure you try their welcome desert after you've gone off and had dinner. It's quite good. There are several onsens (hot springs) for your feet in town that are worth a visit. Hotel offers free luggage storage, which is quite nice!

Friendly service. They provided us with a great map of the area and instructions on how to get to Nachii falls (it's easy.) Located about two minutes from Kii-Katsuura station. Unfortunately the tuna market was shut the only morning we were there, so if that's something you want to see, I'd time your visit accordingly. Breakfast was average. We were oddly served a small icecream ball with it. Dinner is not offered, but there are restaurants nearby. Room was comfortable and cosy. Will come as a welcome respite if you've been staying in traditional tatami rooms and are missing a bed. Very clean.

Good logistic place to stay
After finishing our trip to Nachi Taisha we wanted to leave early to head off to Koyoasan, so we looked for a handy place to leave early. Katsuura was such a place but there was nothing to do there. If you want to stay a longer time then only one night, look for something else such as one of the Island with onsen :)

Kumano Kodo nakahechi
Four days exploring the Kumano Kodo with overnight stays in Tanabe and Katsuura were a great experience. The accomodation and meals were very satisfactory and the trails were in good repair but not unexpectedly rarely flat! The historical nature of the trail is regularly apparent from the multitude of minor shrines and ruins along the way as well as the major temples at the end. Onsen accomodation provides a uniquely Japanese experience to the journey. The country is very beautiful and provides a huge contrast to the urban centres where most tourists experience Japan. Literally a breath of fresh air.

Unfortunately Hotel Charmant was the only area of our Kumano Travel booking service which fell short of expectations. I strongly suggest the Hotel categorise it's rooms as smoking and non-smoking as we were shown 2 rooms both of which smelt strongly of cigarette smoke, before settling into a third which was OK. Some of the rooms on the ground floor also have very small windows immediately facing an ugly wall.

Decent place to stay in Katsuura
Hotel Charmant provided what we needed, which was a decent place to stay in Katsuura after an exhausting four days of walking the Kumano Kodo. It is conveniently located, a very short walk from the train/bus station. The room was pretty average, but comfortable enough for one night. Reception was very friendly and the Western style breakfast was large and very tasty. There are convenient (free) lockers to store your luggage if you need to check out but are not leaving on the train immediately.

A real surprise
Well located in a small coastal town, the hotel was clean, tidy, had free lockers for baggage storage before checking in, a washing machine and the rooms were generous size. Breakfast was a good set with as much extra toast and coffee as you could want. WiFi was only available in the lobby/dining area but this is not really a hardship given the small size of the hotel. Added to a very reasonable tariff, it is a great hotel for the price. Definitely would stay again next time we visit.

Great stay at the Hotel Charmant. Staff very friendly and important information (check out times, breakfast times, wifi details) were provided on paper in English. Location was very convenient for the station and only a short walk away from the ferry to Nakanoshima where we used the onsen. Loved the breakfast - was fantastic to have some western style food after lots of rice and Japanese food for the rest of the weekend. Single room was small and old but perfectly ok. Friends stayed in the newer part of the building which was nicer.

Conveniently located just 3 min away from JR. Got good recommendation from the concierge staff on where to eat. A welcome dessert of red bean soup was served, nice gesture. There's also a complimentary 500ml mineral water. Didn't expect much of breakfast, was surprised at the scrumptious breakfast! One of the best hotels during my Japan's stay.

Hotel Charmant is conveniently located near JR Station - upon exiting JR Station, go straight, cross road, go straight and hotel is on your left. Check in from 3PM. Lights at Front Desk are switched off from 10AM - 3PM. Self service complimentary luggage storage and return at 3PM for check in. Room and bathroom are clean. Hotel does not have elevator and I was given a room on 2nd floor. The lady who checked me in saw that I was tired, immediately carried my luggage to 2nd floor. Dessert (red bean and mochi) is provided in the evening from 6PM - 9PM. Breakfast is provided with free flow of juices, coffee, tea and toasted bread. Map of the vicinity is provided and restaurants are recommended. JR Station does not have elevator or escalator. You have to carry luggage up the stairs from platform to overheard bridge, cross bridge, exit JR Station gantry, carry luggage down the stairs before reaching main road. There is a small convenient store at JR Station. Shops behind the hotel sells fruits, water, snacks, etc.

Grateful to be close to the train station
Hotel Charmant was the perfect location for our last night on the Kumano Kodo Trail. It provided the necessities we needed after a long, long day. The owner was very gracious in checking us in and providing breakfast the following day. We had an early train back to Osaka and were able to pull our luggage a short block down the street to the station. It provided what we needed.

Charmont is convenient business hotel close to the fish market and lots of restaurants. Don't expect 5 star accommodation here but the service as ever in Japan was efficient and courteous. Not a big fan of the stale smoke smell in the room so unless you're smoker I would ask specifically for a non-smoking room

The room was nothing special, but was clean and perfectly serviceable. There are so many fun things to do In katsuura. I recommend taking a boat to nakanoshima hotel and visiting the rotenburo: just delightful! And the maguro available in the town was right out of the ocean.

Very clean and comfortable
The charming little western style Hotel Charmant was a great choice for my one night stay in Katsuura at the end of walking the Kumano Kodo trail. It is in a very convenient location between the railway station and the water. My room was exceptionally clean with an adjoining ensuite and two comfortable twin beds. The manager told me how to get to one of the onsen resorts to take advantage of the onsen baths there and where to eat in Katsuura. She even had a copy of the menu in English for the restaurant she suggested to look at first (I was glad I went over to the baths, and the meal I ate at her recommendation was very good). I was given a warm soup without charge after I arrived at the hotel. The breakfast was continental style. I was able to leave my luggage in a locker at the hotel after check out until my train. The manager was very friendly and attentive and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Katsuura

Great little hotel
This hotel is a wonderful little find in Katsuura town. The reception and service were friendly and helpful, even with limited English. Great orange shop next door! Large room by Japanese standards though mine had a bit of a moldy smell which is why I'm giving 4 stars out of 5. Nice breakfast with a mix of western and Japanese items.

Superb value
The room is old fashioned, but its still a good value especially for its location within Katsuura -- super close to the Katsuura bus stop, JR station, many eateries and shops around the hotel, as well as the fish market at the harbor. The staff is kind and helpful, and the breakfast is delicious. It seemed like there were alot of business people guests, as well as vacationers like us.

Great little hotel
We stayed here after spending several days on the Kumano Kodo. The Hotel was a perfect location, the rooms were surprisingly large, the bed was comfy and the small amenities like coffee and tea and water in the room, was a nice touch. The service was sweet and kind and it was easy to check in and to stay. The rooms were clean and the showers were hot. The breakfast was nothing spectacular, but healthy and adequate. Lovely little hotel and I really enjoyed being able to sample some of the local seafood and able to stroll the streets.

Perfect End To A Long Pilgrimage
Excellent place to end my travels. Clean, comfortable, close to food stores, bakeries, and 3 conveneice stores. The lady who welcomed me was kind, and I was given a token for a special welcoming soup to have any time on my first night. The room had a private shower and toilet, as well as tv and mini fridge. This was great because I just wanted to relax on my own after my hike, so the private facilities were much appreciated. The breakfast was western style only, which was fine. This would cater for most foreigners, although I prefer a Japanese style meal. Excellent location as well. Thank you Hotel Charmant.

Pleasant stay
The location of this hotel cannot be more convenient - 20m from the bus stop from Shingu and very close to the train station. All in all a very pleasant stay after changing from the first room which was dark. The lady was very helpful in showing two other rooms. The room did smell of cigarette smoke but was soon dissipated with opening the triple glazed windows and using the ioniser. The welcome sweet soup was nice. The self-service lockers behind the counter was very useful to leave bags, lock and go exploring unhindered by baggage.

Basic hotel in good location
Hotel is very well located on the main street between the train/bus station and the port. The lady at the reception was wery kind, she spoke only Japanease but had some written information in English. Our room was large (for Japanese standards) and had Western style beds. This a basic hotel with minimum of decoration and old furniture but it is kept in good condition. The room was reasonably clean, bathroom was a bit smelly. This was a smoking room with a strong smell of smoke. The breakfast was fine, Western style.

Charmant is not the place it looks like in the photos and description. It is a place that seems it has not been touch since 1970's. The most disgusting thing is that smells like a pub everywhere, including the room, a very strong smoke smell. The color of the walls, curtains and toilet is yellow as well, like cigarrette smoke. On the other hand, the woman in charge is very kind but does not speak any foreign language.

Good location; except for musty room.
For night before early train, I booked this hotel near station and centre of things. Kii-Katsuura was a nice place, as was Hotel Charmant, except my room was musty and damp smelling. They seem to be trying to fix this with a dehumidifier, but when you re-entered the room you could smell it. This might be just a ground floor problem. Breakfast simple, continental style. Business hotel, clean western bathroom, helpful and friendly hostess.

I loved the small fishing village despite it being extremely quiet.
This was the perfect stopover place in a very quaint village with very interesting nearby attractions. I ate at a nearby restaurant ; again no people about. Guestroom: Perfect guest house room, clean. Baths: Regular Japanese en suite. Fine. Meals: Only had breakfast which was perfect and adequate with top up of toast & coffee offered. Convenience matters. Charming location
Most of the complaints from previous reviews have been addressed: the bathroom had an ample amount of liquid soap and shampoo. The room had an air purifying machine, which helped to rid any smoke smell. However many hotels in Japan do not have designated smoking/no smoking rooms so travelers should be aware of this. The continental breakfast was very basic but this was indicated in the description of the lodging. A business hotel with a buffet breakfast would be a better deal, but few hotels exist in this town. I was surprised to find the hotel located on the 'main drag' of the town, leading from the train station to the harbor port. Convenience couldn't be better, plus there are lots of nearby restaurants to sample the superb maguro in the area (the best I've eaten in Japan). One tip if you have a rental car is check out the local ACOOP supermarket, which has big trays of fresh maguro sushi (I counted nine) for under 1000 yen.

オーナーの接客などは良かった。 コインランドリーは有ったのですが、洗濯1、乾燥機1で、乾燥機は他のお客が使っていて、残念ながら使えなかった。作業員の方が多く宿泊されていたためか？

Practical
Not as charmant as the name, it is a bit like a business hotel but comfortable and good location. Practical to go and see the action at Kii-Kaatsura port at 7am and to sample good local maguro. I can't remember breakfast so I guess nothing special.

Excellent stay at Hotel Charmant
Our stay at Hotel Charamant was very comfortable and enjoyable. A minor inconvenience was that there was no wireless internet access at the hotel as we were travelling with an iPad however that was not much of an issue. While the owners do not speak any English, communication was easy enough. What would help other guests is that if they could have instruction on how to operate the washing machine and also a sign telling them that it is on the top floor. Overall a very nice and quaint hotel. Would definitely return on the next trip to Kii-Katsuura
