Description
Authentic yet Modern Townhouse
Konyamachiya is a restored Machiya townhouse near the mouth of the Aizu-gawa river in a local neighborhood of the rural Tanabe City. The two story wooden house is lovingly renovated, preserving the original atmosphere of the building, yet furnished with modern comforts. The dark browns of the rough, original beams are a distinctive feature of the interior.
Staying at Konyamachiya offers a private, relaxed, and authentic experience in a traditional Japanese house. This project is part of a cultural rejuvenation movement supported by a diversity of local associations and stakeholders.

過ごしやすい宿でした
寒い時期なので夜は冷えるかと思いましたが、エアコンで十分暖かかったです。お風呂も広かったし各種備品等も充実し部屋も十分な広さでゆっくり過ごせました。駐車場が少し止めづらかったのでラインを引くと分かりやすいと思います。また機会があれば是非訪れたいと思います。お世話になりました。

Beautiful old traditional house but some distance from the station. Unfortunately we arrived after dark and had to organise our own food. Only downside was there was no kitchen and we could not find anything to cook with. Traditional beds were warm but not used to being on the floor so took some adjustment.

If you are looking to do a free and easy stay with minimal cooking, this place is for you. 2 large rooms upstairs. Washer. No stove nor induction cooker so you can't really prepare meals. 食事なしで宿泊。友人とゆっくり過ごせました。2階に部屋が２つあり、２名づつゆったり眠れました。買い出しするところや和食どころが徒歩圏内にあり便利でした。また利用したいです。

We enjoyed our stay, and it was a lovely walk through the laneways of the town but we did have a bit of trouble actually finding the place. We had the whole house to ourselves and it was a cute place but the futons were a little hard .

Perfect Townhouse for group stay
The instructions were clear to go from the station to the en+ for check in. Check in process was very smooth, we walked through the do's and don'ts of the house and after a coffee (recommended) downstairs we went to the house which was a 15 minute walk away. As there are no meals included we stopped at a familymart to gather some breakfast. For dinner we recommend sushi from 万よし, its just a couple minutes walking away and we had a very good dinner.

This townhouse has everything needed for a comfortable stay in Tanabe. It is a self check-in but the host has designed a very comprehensive check in guide that is picked up with the keys at the EN plus cafe across the road from the Tanabe station. We couldnt get the address to come up on apple maps and so finding the address in the dark was a bit challenging. The host provides a map link in the Kumano site to google maps but it wouldnt provide directions. We found it withou that much difficulty.

Great Stay
This house is a short walk from the train station. The neighborhood is nice. Friendly neighbors saw us looking a little lost with luggage and directed us there without us asking. There were several restaurants within walking distance and a mini mart just around the corner. The house is beautifully restored, spacious and clean. There is a hidden kitchen area which was fun to discover. I'm glad I chose this special place. If you have luggage transfer service, they pick it up from the house. The complimentary ice cream at the cafe had interesting flavors and was very good (try soy sauce flavor)

Really great
I really enjoyed staying at this renovated machiya/townhouse. It was in a really quiet location which was an enjoyable walk away through the small shopping streets. The house was beautifully renovated and comfortable. The futons were really comfortable. We ate at the friendly okonomiyaki restaurant a block away and the local diners were extremely friendly. The Kumano Kodo luggage service picked up our bags at the machiya and we didn't have to worry about taking them back to the train station for check-out (just leave the key in the box). A fantastic experience all-around!

Traditional Comfort
Lovely big, clean & comfortable townhouse - with excellent aircon that was very much appreciated in the heat! Check-in was easy, & we'd recommend grabbing a taxi at the station to save yourself the 1km walk with luggage. We had an amazing dinner at nearby sushi restaurant, Manyoshi (万よし). But unfortunately we couldn't use our breakfast voucher as 2 of the 3 cafe options weren't open on a Monday, & the third didn't open until 11am.

Big, beautiful townhouse
As a solo traveler it was amazing to have the house all to myself. It was a little confusing how to check in because there seemed to be noone a the reception area. But once I found the right person they helped me. I was a bit tired from traveling and it was super hot and humid so walking to the townhouse was extra. However, if I had been thinking straight, I could have taking a short taxi ride as there were some parked right outside the station.

アットホームな町屋ステイ
家族旅行の拠点として使わせていただいたのは二度目ですが、以前に変わらず、アットホームにリラックスして泊まれるのがとてもよかったです。 まだ梅雨明けしていませんでしたが、田辺の海水浴場で海水浴を二日も満喫しました。また訪れたいです。 今回チェックイン時に頂いた、カフェでのウェルカムドリンクは、多様なメニューから選べて楽しめました。ありがとうございました。

Spacious, clean, and quiet!
The accommodation was very clean and spacious. Checkin instructions were very detailed, so the process went smoothly. Just a heads up, if traveling alone, and no other guests staying at the same time (my situation), the quiet can be a bit disconcerting. Overall, a great stay! Also very much enjoyed eating a the otokonomiyaki joint 2 minutes away!

The house was beautiful. You get an entire traditional japanese house to yourself. Check-In is a little weird but was easy enough. You meet at a co-working space and they give you all the information and key there. The house is on the edge of town, but its only a 15 minute walk to the train/bus station. The house had many guidebooks for the Kumano Kodo which helped us get ready for our trip.

キッチンは電子レンジと電気ポットだけしか無かったのが残念。朝食用に地元食材を使った簡単なスープを作れる程度の設備（電気コンロ程度）は欲しかった。 その他は、レンタサイクルが準備してあるとよかった。レンタサイクルをやっているところはあったが、台数が少なく、夕方には返却しないといけないので、利用しにくい。

Good choice of accomodation
We arrived early and managed to ring the owner who came to meet us and let us in. Using Google Translate communication was easy, and the owner had a list of information written in English that we went through with him. Sleeping is traditional tatami room, and we had a good nights sleep. The Kumano Kodo luggage service piked our bags up from here after we left.

地元の女性6名で宿泊させていただきました 古民家のリノベーションが素敵にされていて 清潔感もあり気持ちのよいお宿でした 全員同じ意見でした チェックイン後は夏限定で営業されているシオゴリビーチガーデンでサンセットを楽しみながらビーチパーティ。その後は駅前の方へ。 普段なら車で通り過ぎる道も、ゆっくり歩いて。路地にも入って。 いつもなら気づかない古い建物や街並みを楽しめました 紺屋町屋の立地が遠いかな。と思ってましたが、散策するのにいい場所ですね 遠くへ行かなくても 夏の田辺は最高です とても満喫できた良い旅でした （一点だけ。洗面台の排水口のつまみが無くて…排水されず困りました）

Far from Kii-Tanabe station but great experience!
It's quite a walk from the Kii-Tanabe station (about 15 mins) but it's a great experience staying in a restored machiya located in a residential area and just near a river. The amenities are awesome as well, I really felt like a local. It's a great break after doing the Kumano Kodo and before moving to your next destination. There is a nice izakaya-type place just around the corner, and I highly recommend having a meal there or two.

朝晩が上下布団一枚では寒かったです。エアコンは天井が高いためか効きが悪く、かつ乾燥が強くて途中で消しましたが、夜中に起きたときがとても寒かったです。脱衣場も寒くて、冬期に利用するのは躊躇します。その他は部屋も奇麗で問題はありません。

1階は部屋の照明が暗く、居心地と雰囲気が今ひとつでした。2階の部屋は畳で温かみのある照明でくつろげました。 美しい扇ヶ浜や江川ちゃんぽん、海鮮のおいしい居酒屋など、田辺の街は楽しめました。 ありがとうございました。

観光で利用させていただきました。 タクシーで行き先を告げたところ、すぐ理解 して下さり助かりました。 入室時、2階の寝室は暑かったですが、2部屋ともエアコン完備のため全く問題なし。 お風呂は浴槽が大きくてゆったり。疲れが取れました。 欲を言えば、リビングのクッションの厚み、素材が合いませんでした。真夏なので肌にペタリとひっつく感じ。あと、換気のフィルターのホコリが気になりました。

部屋が綺麗で清潔で趣きがあって大満足です。布団も枕も清潔で寝心地がよくぐっすり眠れました。ただ、チェックイン時間が予定より遅くなりそうで何度電話しても繋がらず焦りました。改善してもらえれば、と接客サービスを⭐️4としました。あと、風呂場にカビキラーがポン、と置いてありました。

Nice house and exceptionally nice neighbours!!! I wasn't expecting earthquake and I never had experience like this. But there were two ladies who came to help me understand what's going on. Despite the language difficulties they manage to call the agency so I could speak to calm down. I apologise for that and becouse I came to Japan without knowing the language.

紺屋町家に泊まらずして田辺を語るなかれ
南方熊楠を尊敬する友人が「田辺市に行ってみたい」とのことでしたので、紺屋町家を予約させていただきました。素敵なガイドブックを手に、夜は味光路で飲み、紺屋町家で宿泊し、朝は田辺のまちをそぞろ歩いたのですが、その友人は田辺のことが大好きになったようで、こういう町家に住んでみるのもいいねという感想でした。 白浜や勝浦のホテルもとても素敵ですが、田辺の紺屋町家もまた素敵でした。スタッフの皆さま、快適なひとときをありがとうございました。また、是非泊まりに来たいと思います。

Quaint house in a quiet neighbourhood
Located 15-20 min walk away from Kii-Tanabe station, check in was fast simple at the Kumano Travel Shop just across the station. The house itself is located in a very quiet neighbourhood away from the main entertaiment area, it was clean, updated and had all the modern conveniences. Wake up early to have a morning stroll at the port near the house.

We stayed here for 1 night before starting a hike on the Kumano Kodo. Everything is in a great condition and very clean. It's great value, especially if there are a few of you staying. On the morning we were leaving a lady (who I presume was the clean the house after our visit) came in 1hr before check out. As soon as she realised we were still there she left, and when my husband went outside to see who it had been they laughed about it - maybe this is best done after the check out time. :)

Rather disappointed with the accommodation
We felt it was not suitable for elderly Westerners as there were no chairs, shelves or drawers and we had to live entirely on the floor. We were very disappointed that the only towels left for us for bathing were 3 towels for the onsen. There were no instructions of how to use the microwae or what crockery to use in the microwave. We would not recommend the ccommodation. We hope to return to the area but would stay in a hotel.

Clean & comfortable house
The landlord was very thoughtful and provided us with everything we needed and more - towels, amenities etc. The house was very clean and comfortable, and best of all had a traditional look. The only drawback was that it was very difficult to find as it is hidden in a quiet neighbourhood, and quite far away from the station.

Great, new townhouse entirely for yourself
We really enjoyed our stay in this newly renovated townhouse. You collect the key at the Kumano Travel desk near Kii-Tanabe central station and from there it is a short walk to the house. It is located in a quiet neigbourhood about 10 minutes from the busier town centre as well as the beach. Highly recommended.

Fantastic townhouse
This townhouse is very well equipped, clean and quiet and great value for money. We only had a one night stay but would have been a great base for a few nights. It's a bit of a walk from the station, but easy to find. The checkin is at the tourist information, who are very helpful. The checkin time is between 3 and 5 so does constrain when you arrive.

毎年、夏に利用させていただいており今回で5回目になります。いつも気持ちよく利用させていただいております。下駄箱の上にお香を置いていただいてるのですが、ライター・マッチ等が無く、私どもは喫煙しないので自前でもライターを持っていない為、せっかくのお香を使うことができないので、可能であればマッチもしくは、ライターを常備していただければありがたいです。 また、毎年いただいている扇ヶ浜のイルカチケットですが、チェックイン時にいただくので到着日には使うことができません。チェックイン時間は現在の15時～17時までのままでもいいので、午前中からイルカチケットだけでも受取りができると到着日に利用することができるので、ご検討していただきたいです。 また、利用させていただきます。

This was the first night of our trip and we really enjoyed this accommodation. The townhouse was very well equipped, comfortable, stylish,and immaculately clean. Initially we thought it might be a bit far from the station but we easily managed to wheel our luggage to the house. Older guests may prefer to take a taxi from the station. It was so nice to be immediately immersed in a modern Japanese style house. Loved the tatami and futons and it was a great place to organise ourselves for the walk.

Very good

lovely stay

Nice place, clean and traditional. A little difficult to find and just a bit far from station with luggage. Nice to have a washing machine, but no clothesdryer - difficult in rainy season! Beautiful house in residential area
Our family enjoyed the 1-night stay at this house - it feels like "new" and is tastefully furnished. The location was a bit away from the main business area in a quiet neighborhood. We walked there with rolling luggage in about 15min from the station. There is no stove, so all "cooking" would need to rely on the electric kettle and the microwave. The only thing missing is a butter knife or paring knife. A little store around the corner had all the supplies needed for our meals.

予想よりずっと良かったです
2月に家族3人で一泊利用させて頂きました。 思っていたよりずっと綺麗な部屋で、木造りの雰囲気も良く、楽しく過ごすことができました。 是非とも、もっと多くの町家の活用をお願い致します。 若干の要望を述べさせて頂きます。 居間に掘り炬燵があれば、文句なく部屋の評価を★５個としました。 掘り炬燵は普通に座れるので、外国の方にも受けると思います。 また、クッションが座りにくく、まだ、座椅子の方が使い勝手が良いのではないでしょうか。 寝室は、北側の部屋に寝具が用意されていたので、そのまま使いましたが、車道に近いので、トラック等が通ると音が大きくて驚くことがありました。 南側の部屋をメインの寝室にする方が車道から遠く、音が小さいのではないでしょうか。 お風呂は、追い焚きが出来ないのが減点ポイントです。 ホテル式と割り切れば良いのでしょうが、純和風の町家なので日本式のお風呂として使いたいです。 お湯が勿体ない気がします。 私たちの場合は、ちょっと熱めに入れて2人と1人に分かれて、お湯の入れ替え無しで入りました。 貧乏性は治りませんね。 立地の点が低いのは、車道のすぐそばにあることです。 数軒分でも東側にあれば、問題なしです。 繁華街の味光路にもう少し近ければ、さらに言うこと無しです。 勝手な感想を述べさせて頂きましたが、上に書いたように、もっと多くの町家から選ぶことができれば楽しいし、リピーターも増えると思います。

The townhouse is in a good location, 15 min. walking distance from station in a residential area. Kii-Tanabe is a very nice town. The townhouse is a nice traditional house with comfortable modern bathroom. The furnishings are a bit sparse for a longer stay. The living and sleeping area are tatami rooms, so you can only sit on the floor and the futon was a bit thin for my comfort. The house is thoughtfully decorated though with nice handmade details and touches. There is a fridge and sink, but no cooking facilities.. There are plates, cups and glasses but no cutlery at all. We bought a knife to cut some fruit. All in all a very good accommodation, just a few minoradditions could have made it a bit more comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

一軒家なので、玄関を開けて入っていくのが知人宅にでもお邪魔するような感じで良かったです。一階がリビング二階が寝室と分かれているので、おしゃべりをするのも気兼ねなくできました。みんなで集まるときはまた是非利用したいと思います。駐車スペースが一台分だけしかないのが少し不便でした。

Nice place to stay in Kiitanabe
We had some trouble finding this place as it was raining heavily and getting dark by the time we arrived in Kiitanabe. But we were happy once we got there. The owners have done a great job creating a traditional Japanese 'machiya': spacious, comfortable bedding, interesting design touches and even a washing machines. Strangely, there were no knives provided. Good convenience store located nearby.

Konyamachiya Townhouse
We were very impressed by this self catering Townhouse. Although it is a bit of a walk from the station it was fun walking down the side streets where there were lots of restaurants, shops and even a group of people dressed up as dragons! There is a Family Mart nearby for provisions. Tea and milk were provided. The house is beside the river and there is a nice walk along the embankment. The house is really clean and well organised inside - there were even instructions on using the kettle! The fish tank and the plants were delightful.

Beautifully renovated old home
This house went above and beyond our expectations just for atmosphere. You can walk to the river and the ocean it flows into. Close to the main drag, albeit a bit of a walk. All in all the house is more modern, clean, and nicely done than most of the (great) accommodation we found elsewhere in Japan. We found it challenging to find open restaurants in Tanabe, and notably close to this townhouse. A bit of a walk.

Real experience of staying in a Japanese style house
We had a two-week holiday in Japan and Wakayama was our second stop, as the next one is Shirhama and therefore we choose to stay at Tanabe for 2 nights. We spent a day for hiking on the mountain. The townhouse is beautifully renovated, very clean, comfortable, cosy and feel we were at home. The bath is a modern western style, very good. It is located in regular Japanese neighborhood, very friendly neighbors. The breakfast is also very good. The only comment is there is no sign of the English name outside or inside the restaurant, it took us 15 mins walked passed it several times but still unable to find it thought with helps from nearby shops. Eventually we found it and had good breakfast there for 2 mornings. I am highly recommend overseas travelers to stay at Konyamachiya Townhouse to experience and appreciate the good work that the local community has done on this townhouse. There is a grocery shop at the entrance of the street, convenient store just two blocks away, restaurants in walking distance. Tenabe is a quiet town, we enjoy walking around the water front. お世話になりました
この度は、大変お世話になりました。早めに到着した為、鍵を昼ごろに取りに行かせてもらいましたが、ご対応頂けたので、その後チェックインの時間にしばられず、ゆっくりと観光できたのでよかったです。 お部屋は清潔で広く設備も行き届いているので、価格を考えるとコストパフォーマンスに優れているとおもいました。鍵の受け取り以外は、人と接することがないので、サービスについては、評価できませんが、可もなく不可もなく、満足しています。 また利用させてください。 海水浴場などにも近く、紀伊田辺の良いところを存分に味わえて、大変良い1泊2日だったと思います。

冬場でも暖かく快適でした
寒い冬場だったので、町屋は底冷えするのではないかと少し心配でしたが、裸足で廊下や階段を歩いても気にならないくらいでした。お風呂場にも簡易のヒーターがあったのがありがたかったです。何より全体的に綺麗で清潔感があったのが良かったです。ありがとうございました。あと、何故か、はじめからトイレに鍵がかかっていました。（外から開けられたので問題なく、すぐ利用できたのですが。）また、万が一のための、津波避難MAPが、きちんと備えてあって安心でした。子供連れだったので、ホテルに泊まるよりも、気兼ねなく快適だったので、また是非利用したいと思います。

とてもいい感じの町家で、ゆっくりとした時間を過ごせました。 気になった点は １）お正月でチェックイン場所が駐輪場だったが、電話したら「ここは駐輪場ですが？」と言われ、丁寧に説明する必要がありました。 ２）リビングのエアコンのリモコンが壊れていたように思います。ネットで取説を検索しましたが、家庭用ではないため見つからずで、結果、暖房が使えず寒さに震えました。 ３）予約サイトがまどろっこしいのが気になります。 キャンセルや人数変更も電話ではなく、ネットで受付けて頂けると助かります。 ただ結論から言うと、古い友達３人でハプニングも大笑いしながら楽しい思い出になりました。 手作りな感じもいいなと思いました。 また泊まらせて頂きたいです。どうもありがとうございました。

紀伊田辺ファンとして最高の宿泊施設でした
紺屋町の風情も良く、お部屋も広く、お風呂も素敵でした。また多くの和歌山県下の宿泊施設に見受けられる、清掃の粗雑さも無く、非常に快適に過ごせました。有難うございました。来年は紺屋町家を拠点として、南紀各地に日帰りで遊びに行くような連泊が出来ればと思います。ただ、チェックイン時間の短さは改善希望です。

最初町家までがわからなくてぐるぐる回りました。建物は素晴らしくて室内もとても居心地がよかったです。 海水浴にいってお部屋に砂利が落ちてしまったので、ほうきがあればお掃除できたのになとおもいます。 今度は母達も連れて泊まりたいと思うのですが、駐車場が一台しかとめられず、周辺にもパーキングは見当たらなかったので残念です。 駐車場の空き地にはもう一台停められないのでしょうか？ 海にも近く子供達も大喜びの夏休みになりました！

紺屋町家
２度目の利用です。宿泊施設そのものは、雰囲気や設備を含めて申し分なく、快適に過ごすことができました。自由な過ごし方で滞在できるのがこの施設の魅力の一つだと思いますが、（我々はよく知っているので必要なかったのですが）初めて田辺に来た人向けには、紺屋町家を拠点にした滞在モデルのようなものが示されると、地域にとけ込んだ、より魅力的な過ごし方ができるように思います。近くの飲食店やカフェ、銭湯、おすすめ散策コース、熊楠旧居などのスポットを、紺屋町家を中心に示したマップなどがあると便利かもしれません。既に田辺を紹介する魅力的な冊子があるので、それを見ながら探すこともできるのですが、欲を言えば…というところでしょうか。

Awesome townhouse in Tanabe
We were very impressed with Konyamachiya Townhouse - a brilliant, brand new little house, that was impeccably clean and exactly what we needed for our one night stay in Tanabe. The bedrooms are nice and large; bathrooms are new and clean and there is plenty of room. It is situated in a cute local street, where lots of elderly locals seem to live and was perfect walking distance (about 10-15 mins) from the station. The only downside was that there was no stove in the little kitchenette provided - this would have been handy, but not really essential when there are plenty of options to eat out in Tanabe. I would highly recommend staying here and would defiantly stay here again. We seriously loved this place - it is not often you find a brand new, traditional style townhouse for rent in Japan!

Our own little townhouse
What a gem! This townhouse is perfect for couples, friends and families alike! The two storey building has a tasteful japanese interiour and we immediately felt like home from the time we arrived. The only little disadvantage of the townhouse is its location - it takes appr. 15 minutes by foot to go there from the trainstation.

Great experience of a traditional Japanese house
After a little confusion when collecting the key and registering, it was lovely to arrive at arrive at Konyamachiya - traditional layout and materials with mod cons - and especially to ""come home"" to it after big day hikes on the Kumano Kodo. Its in a local residential street and the neighbours were very friendly.The house was very clean and well supplied with linen, bath towels, toiletries, tea/coffee/milk, lovely ceramic dining ware and items like laundry and kitchen detergent. Note: hot food self-catering will depend on your skills with a microwave and kettle. The tatami bedroms have wardrobes so your luggage can be put away (albeit without any sheving). Instructions in English explained how to operate the hot water service, washing machine and access wi-fi...although the latter did not mention turning on the power to the modem, which took us 2 days to realise. ""Dining and lounge seating"" is thick cushions at a low table - but without the backs that you may see elsewhere in Japanese accommodation...which was not so ideal for unwinding after dinner. Overall, though, a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Amazing house, wished we could have stayed longer
We didn't expect it to be a fully furnished house, including kitchen, dining area, washing machine, and terrace! The townhouse is brilliant, a bit further from the station but close to the sea is also nice. We only stayed for one night before starting the Kumano Kodo, which was a pity since we would have liked to take more advantage of the house rather than arrive and leave very early. The only comment on the amenities would be that is was very cold and hard to warm it up with the airco.

また利用します
家族連れで利用しました。 レンタカーがあったので駅から1.6kmほどありますが問題ありませんでした。夏ならあるいても気持ちいいと思います。利用時期が冬だったので車でよかったです。 地元の人との交流もあったのですが、その方達が「地元だけど利用しても良いのかな」と話しているくらいの建物です。もちろんオススメいたしました。 風呂、トイレ、洗面など水回りもきれいだし、洗濯機もあり大変便利に使わせていただきました。洗濯機の横にあった物干に気づかなかったのでハンガーを駆使して干しましたが、自分たちのどんくささを笑いました。 ２階の部屋もスッキリとリノベーションされており、いつも宿泊では旅館の人に作ってもらう布団を自分たちで作るのも少し新鮮でした。加湿器も置いてあり気の使い方に脱帽いたしました。 マイナス面はチェックイン時間です。１７時までにチェックインしなくてはならないのですが、もう少し遅くても出来るようにしてもらえたらうれしいです。ただ、田辺を経験してみて思いました。私たちは夕方田辺入りしましたが、それが間違い。もっと早く田辺入りして田辺を楽しむべきだったと。そうすればチェックイン時間も納得がいったと思います。かわいい建物が多くあり、レンタカーがあれば行ける梅みかんの安く手に入る「紀菜柑」とかおしゃれなカフェとか山盛りです。１日では１００％楽しめません。数日必要と思いました。足を伸ばしたら、そこは白浜だし、龍神温泉もあるし、夏には祭りもあり、なんなら住みたいくらいです。 後半話が少しそれましたが、そんな田辺をウロウロする拠点にこの宿は最適と思いました。 知り合いに教えていただきましたが、じゃらんなどのサイトに掲載されて人気が出たら泊まれなくなるから、載せないでほしい気持ちでいっぱいです。というくらい良いところでした。

作家の作品が楽しい
古民家をリフォームしたとのことで思っていたよりきれいでした。備え付けの案内ファイルやテーブルセンターや食器などが作家の作品であったりセンスの良いものだったのが嬉しかったです。銭湯に行こうと思い、駅の案内所で聞いたところ親切に教えていただいたのですが、夜８時頃に行ったらもう閉まっていて残念でした。味光路の居酒屋でウツボを生まれて初めて食べたのも楽しかったです。

Trip with the family- Parents first time in Asia
We had a great time in Tanabe, we really enjoyed the Konyamachlya Townhouse! It was very clean and comfortable for a family of 6. The reception location was easy to find, right off the train station. We had a quick walk to the townhouse and everthing was well laid out and easy to find. I would recommend it to friends and family traveling to that area.

気持ちのいい空間
レトロな雰囲気を残しながらも機能的で、何と言っても清潔感があふれた、とても気持ちのいい空間でした。夜は、田辺で美味しいお魚を堪能した後、遅くまでおしゃべり。朝は縁側に寝そべって空を見上げました。全員大満足のお宿でした!!（素泊まりなので食事と接客・サービスの評価はなしです）

Recommend this House for a comfortable stay
Konyamachiya has been recently renovated and refurbished most tastefully, using quality materials. The home was very comfortable and spacious. We were met at the tourist bureau and driven to the accommodation in a welcoming manner. Also provided with maps and explanatory notes, helpful & thoughtful given the lack of English spoken by the staff member and lack of english spoken in Tanabe in general. We enjoyed or stay here and feel Tanabe and surrounding area has a lot to offer the tourist happy to tread off the beaten trail.

部屋の掃除は割と行き届いていたと思うが、扉の裏に隠れて女性の下着が落ちていたので、もっと点検をしっかりしていたら良かったのに…と思った。 お茶とコーヒーのインスタントはあったが、物足りないと感じた。 もう少し種類や量があれば嬉しい。 洗濯機や洗剤が自由に使えるのはありがたかった。 隣家との間隔が狭すぎるので、多少気になった。

快適に過ごすことが出来ました。有難うございました。
今回ファミリーで利用させて頂きました。幼児を連れての宿泊でしたが、貸切りなので周りに気兼ねせず、ゆったり過ごすことが出来ました。ただ、お隣の民家との距離がないので、幼児の泣き声やボイラーの音がお隣に、ご迷惑になっていないかと心配しました。後、ホウキなどの掃除用具があればいいかと思いました。

A great choice for those who want to be independent and enjoy a traditional Japanese house.
A lovely little house at the end of a quiet street backing onto the river. The place is brand spanking new and the alluring smell of fresh tatami mats awaits you as you climb the stairs to the two bedrooms. The renovation has been thoughtfully carried out and retains much of its original machiya charm whilst being updated with modern fittings to provide comfort for todays travelers. There is ample room for up to six guests and so as a family group of just two adults and one toddler, having the whole place to ourselves was a welcome treat. It is a 15 min walk from the station however, and with a toddler that can easily feel much longer.... But the neighborhood is very quiet and the back streets offer a glimpse at days gone by so it wasn't a problem. It was raining when we arrived unfortunately and we were unable to explore the area as much as we would have liked. We did find a funky little pizza place called Woodstock nearby that plays jazz music and serves Napoli style woodfire pizzas. Perfect for our son. Around the station the are a lot more choices however, including seafood and noodles. We even noticed an Irish pub! Unlike most people that will most likely use konyamachiya as a base for exploring the kumanokodo hiking trails, we stayed one night on our way to Adventure World in Shirahama. For anyone else contemplating such a trip, my advice would be to make sure you research the local train times beforehand. We ended up taking the local bus from tanabe to shirahama because of infrequent services on Sundays. Only problem we found with the accommodation was a lack of knives, of any sort. A small fruit knife at least would be a welcome addition to the otherwise well stocked mini-kitchen.

A beautifully restored townhouse (machiya)
My parents and husband and I stayed in this two-bedroom townhouse in Tanabe for one night on our way from Kushimoto to Kyoto. We were met at the train station by a friendly and helpful gentleman, who was patiently waiting for us (we were running late and had no way of calling to let them know). As we had our own rental car, we followed him in his car to the house and he gave us a thorough orientation to the house. The house is beautifully restored and very well appointed, making it a very comfortable place to stay. It is on a quiet street, which is great for sleeping but it is a bit of a way from the main restaurant area (near the station). As we had a car, this wasn't a problem for us. I think if you were walking it would probably be about a 15-20 minute walk. Unfortunately, time constraints meant that we were not able to see much of Tanabe city. Overall, I would highly recommend the Konyamachiya townhouse for anyone staying in the Tanabe area.

他はたいへん満足しています。お風呂は追い炊きがないのと、西洋のバスタブになっているようで、個々に水を入れ替えるのがとてももったいないです（お風呂の蓋もないので）。 世界のあらゆるところで、水資源が枯渇してきたり、汚染されてきている現在には、やはり日本式のお風呂をもう一度見直してほしいです。 自然と共存して生きる日本人の生活を熊野古道だけでなく、こういった日常生活のことを、日本文化の良さを外国人に知らせることも大事だと思います。

An authentic machiya townhouse
Located near downtown Tanabe, this traditional japanese house is the ideal place to visit the area and experience a stay in a non-tourist neighborhood. The reception was perfect, they were waiting for us to arrive at the train station. The house is a traditional machiya completely restored, so it is possible to enjoy some features of a traditional japanese house (tatami, futon,...) combined with all the facilities of a moderm life (including a japanese last-tech WC and a truly good wifi!). As it is a rental house, your group will be the only staying.For the same reason, there is not meals service, although the little kitchen equiped with a microwave oven is enough to prepared some quick food before going out to enjoy a delicious meal at a local izakaya in Tanabe.If you like good and off-the-beaten-track accomodations , this is your option.
