A very average homestay, compared to many others we’ve visited on this trip. The elderly woman is set to her schedule and totally ignored our request for no meat in our meals. The food is ok nothing special , the bento box lunch was mostly rice. The room was clean and not the most comfortable .
The woman is helpful when asked but speaks no English .
It would be fine, except the cost was very high, close to 3 star temples and ryokans but not even close in terms of experience.
Just not worth the cost.
It’s not in town but rightn on the busy highway. There’s a minimal grocery near but nothing else.

Beautiful Chikatsuyu
Would recommend this place to anyone. A lovely lady (& her cat) ran it by herself. Beautiful home cooked dinner & breakfast together with a bento box for lunch. Accommodation was comfortable, with a hot bath, fridge, tv, futons, etc. Location was just across the bridge from the supermarket & handy to the bus stop for our next day to Hongu. She didn't speak too much English, but that's half the love of travel. Therese & Pete

Very welcoming host, but just ok
The elderly host was quirky and fun! She spoke no English but spoke with us through her iPad, which worked well. The accommodations were in a trailer on the property. A little dark and dingy with a lot of black mold on the floor. The meals were just ok. The location is about a 10 minute walk from the trailhead, so not terrible, but not right in town. The guest house is right on the side of a highway.

A great midpoint place for Kumano kodo
The host grandma is very nice, she kept the whole facility in good shape. She was also being very accommodating as she made our breakfast earlier in order for us to catch the bus.

Lots of space and easy living
A short walk through town to get there, which gave us a chance to stop at the local shop, get a beer and bag of chips, sit on the bench outside and hang out. We had a large room and large private toilet and shower area. After a long days hike the space allowed us to spread out and relax. The eating area was in a separate structure, and the other guests were all in separate structures, so the room felt private. The location was next to the main road, but the space was very well insulated and noise wasn't an issue. The host was an elderly woman who was a real character, and livened up our trip.

Adorable cat and good location
The owner was truly lovely and social, which was really nice especially considering that she made a lot of effort trying to communicate with us through AI. The meals and packed lunch were also really good but I wish coffee was provided instead of tea during breakfast. The bed was comfortable but it was quite humid inside the room and I wish the shower room was more private but overall, I had a pleasant stay and enjoyed meeting the owner including her cat.

A truly kind and warm host made this experience special. You have a lot of room to yourself including a private bathroom which was a plus. She was thoughtful in her meals and even made our lunch based on the food we said we liked. Close to A-Coop-local supermarket to get supply. Near the bus station. Night time was quite even next to the road. Although host didn’t speak English but you can communicate with her with translation app. Cute and nice Cat living with the host. Highly recommend Minpaku Matsuri
I had a wonderful stay at Minpaku Matsuri, a cozy and welcoming guesthouse that truly feels like a home away from home. The highlight of my visit was the delicious homemade dinner and breakfast—generous portions, full of flavor, and clearly prepared with care.
The host (a friendly granny) was incredibly warm and made me feel very welcome. Plus, there’s an adorable cat that adds an extra layer of charm to the place!
The bath was comfortable and relaxing, perfect after a long day of travel or sightseeing. I also appreciated having access to a washing machine and dryer, which made it easy to refresh my clothes during my stay.
The location is convenient, right next to a supermarket (note: it closes at 6 PM, so plan accordingly).
Overall, I highly recommend Minpaku Matsuri to anyone looking for a peaceful, authentic, and heartwarming stay.

Nice and calm stay
It was a bit difficult to find, but once we arrived we were warmly welcomed. A very spacious room with a nice shower. We got a welcome drink and a cake. Food was tasty, the hostess communicated by means of a translate app. All in all a very pleasant stay.

The room is very spacious and clean with independent bathroom and two huge beds, which should be able to accommodate 4 people.
Bathroom is also clean with showering area and also bathing area.
The host auntie is very welcoming and made delicious meals. Highly Recommended the meals and lunch box.
Though the spot is a bit closer to the main roads. There is not much noise during the night.

宿泊施設は大変よかったです。 熊野古道から少し離れたところにありました。 Google Mapの民泊まつり と Minpaku Matsuriで 検索結果が異なっており、迷いました。 Kumano Travelのアクセスを見ていればよかったと思いました。

Amazing!
The owner was amazing! Such a lovely lady who really liked the company. She doesn’t speak English but she have a tablet with google translate so we could communicate and had good conversation and fun. The food was really amazing en the room was big, clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay here! There is also a supermarket nearby and it was close to the start for the hike the next morning.

The guest house owner is a very warmhearted lady, and communicative very much. We admired her personality and had a good time with her. Delightful stop in Chikatsuyu! Location is right by the bus we took the next morning to get to the next leg of the trail. Loved learning about our host (don’t even know her name, but what an impressive lady!) and the food was so good. Rooms are simple but clean. Close to the main road but you don’t hear it at all.

We decided not to hike the full trail the next day and the host let us know which bus we should take and where to meet it. Location is by the street, but by the time evening rolled around, we did not hear traffic. When walking to the place, one can avoid taking the busy street and take the smaller side streets. There is also a coop grocery store, restaurant, and bakery near by. The rooms were spacious. Loved petting the cat! Laundry machine with dryer available outside of unit.

Obasan was a really warm & sweet lady who made our stay very comfortable. Meals were very homely & I very much appreciate the lunch bento (yummy & thoughtfully prepared). She made breakfast earlier so we could catch our bus on time. Also had the luck to meet Sora chan, her pet cat who is very beautiful. Room was spacious & comfortable. Another advantage was that it was near a shopping area & the bus stop meant we were able to get onto the bus before most other people.

Excellent experience in Minoaku Matsuri
The night spent in Minoaku Matsuri was excellent. The owner was very friendly and the meal (dinner and breakfast) so good. Very recommended for all pilgrims that walks along the Kumano Kodo.

Roadside, and I mean 20 feet from the main road. Not generally pleasing aesthetically. No view. Nice hostess. Definitely not a good choice if you are veg/vegan. She is very kind. The rest of town is beautiful and has views. I was very grateful to get a roof and a bed.

I would give this 6/5 if I could
The owner is very friendly and is open to request such as earlier breakfast (she actually suggested it herself). Food is simply fantastic, especially the dinner. Portion is not an issue as the owner prepared enough seconds and there are ample side dishes to go along with however many seconds you want. Breakfast and bento are very great too. Personally, I like the portion as well for not being too filling (as compared to dinner) as it would be difficult to walk later on. The accommodation itself is like a miniature private family house that is a separate unit from where the owner is preparing food. Basically, you get the entire room for your stay. Goes without saying that the place is clean and comfortable. One thing to take note however, the location is slightly away from the center of Chikatsuyu village where most of the accommodations are and I had some difficulties finding the place, but this is my own fault for not checking the map provided properly (there is a map on the accommodation page on Kumano-travel website, highly recommend to check the exact location). Now, the remote location is not entirely a bad thing. You get a quiet place and enjoy a pretty scenic view in return. I thoroughly enjoyed every single second in this place, be it the food, the bath or the bed, most importantly, it was great chatting with the owner.

Such a Lovely Host and Amazing Food
I would definitely recommend staying here. It's a short 10 minute walk from Chikatsuyu-oji and I appreciated the walk through town to see what it looked like. At Minpaku Matsuri my room was a large Japanese-style room with bathroom en-suite. It was quiet and very comfortable. The host, Meiko, was absolutely lovely. She is also an amazing cook. Everything I had for dinner, breakfast and in my lunchbox was so so delicious and there was so much food. Although we had a language barrier, Meiko was really friendly and we had a lovely conversation over dinner with a translation app. She was very kind and really enjoys meeting foreign travelers to Japan. If you are planning to take the bus in the morning, the bus will stop right out front. Chikatsuyu itself is a very small village but I enjoyed it. There's a small art museum, a coffee shop and a little beer garden. I would absolutely stay at Minpaku Matsuri again.

ゆっくり休めました
初めて熊野古道の中辺路を歩きました。和歌山県に入るのも初めて。中辺路の距離だけを確認し、折角行くのなら美味しい食事も食べたいと民泊まつりさんに決めました。山道を汗だくで歩き、宿に到着すると笑顔で応対して頂きました。当日の宿泊は私のみ。ウェルカムドリンクに熱いお茶と果物を出して頂きビックリ。夕食時には珍しい物、美味しい物が並び、女将さんとの話もとても楽しく話がつきませんでした。
翌日は、暗いうちから朝食とお弁当の準備。宿の前でバスを停めて頂き、次のスタート地点へ移動しました。カミーノで言うなら高級アルベルゲ？またはパラドール？と言った感じでしょうか？
民泊まつりさんには、これからも無理せず長く女将さんに続けて欲しいと思います。
