An interesting experience - needs updates
This was a complicated experience as the food was some of the best and most plentiful that we had on trail. The room was just ok, definitely some stains on the comforters, but had a really nice view. The bathrooms were pretty gross - including out of order stained urinals in the mens bathroom. No where to shower that we could find other than the onsen, which was pretty horrifying honestly...overall the hotel was in serious need of renovations. We did not check out the sister ryokan which had another available onsen that we could have used. The location was pretty unbeatable and the service was pleasant.

Do not stay at this Minshuku
This place would rate as one of the 2 worst accommodations I’ve ever stayed in. The place was falling apart. The baths were so disgusting I wouldn’t go past the entrance. All the urinals & the only sink in the men’s bathroom were broken, the carpet in the hallway was so worn that I tripped in the holes, the faucet in our room was filthy & barely functioning , the curtains in the dining room were stained with mold, all of the slippers we were required to wear inside the building were old & torn to the point of being a tripping hazard, stair handrails were rotted & in disrepair. The only redeeming feature was that we were allowed to use the baths in the building across the street

Location location location
The location is great, short walk to Tsuboyu makes it worth it but the place is as bad as they say. I thought the reviews were exaggerating but compared to the other places I stayed on the trail this Minshuku was rough. That said, the hosts were a group of older men who made a delicious dinner and breakfast. My concern with the food was a little notice in my room saying “the authorities of Japan have asked us to make you beware of food poisoning.” There is no refrigerator available to guests. Made me so paranoid I threw away my lunch for the next day and got by on snacks.

A classing hotel in the middle of the mountains
The hotel looks a little worn out. The rooms are ok, and have their own washbasin. The bath needs a little maintenance.
The food is fine, but if you're not used to Japanese cuisine you'll be wondering what you're eating.

A rundown Minshuku with very good meals.
Reception was fine, if perfunctory. The room was of good size and adequate. There is no room service / bed making. There is a jug of hot water for tea, but no kettle. The meals were very good, and the service friendly.
The facility has communal bathrooms. The men's urinals were out of service, dirty, and the 'do not use' paper signs for a mushy mess. The two toilet stalls were adequate. There was one hand basin, not very clean, and cold water only.
The women's bathroom had no functioning hand basin, or any other handwashing facility. Each room has a small hand basin, cold water only, and water pressure at a dribble only. The only light in that area was broken.
The whole establishment as a rundown feeling inside and out - worn carpets, not very clean, and lacking basic maintenance. The onsen foyer was dark, mouldy and so uninviting we didn't go further. Fortunately guests can go to the onsen at Minshuku Adamaya across the road, which was basic but fine.
The otherwise delightful view from the windows were spoiled by accumulated rubbish and building debris on the banks of the adjacent Creek. In short, if there's nowhere else available, this would do - just.

Old and dirty
Ridiculously bad. The building is worn out and dirty. There's dust and spiderwebs everywhere, the bathroom slippers are old, dirty and tiny, the onsen looks like nobody of the hotel has been there in years. If somebody goes to the toilet the whole floor shakes. The light of neighbouring rooms peeps through the walls of the room we stayed in. Kinda looks like a horror hotel. But I'm not sure if that's worth the price. Oh, no, I am. It's not.

The worst stay ever! I do not undertand how you can propose this minshuku. It gives really a very bad image of Japan. First when I got in I was so chocked and just wanted to run away. Unfortunatly due to the limited posibilities in Yunomine Onsen it was impossible to find something else to stay. I have never ever seen a place in a such bad conditions and dirty! There was mold on the walls and seeling!!! It is even dangerous for health to stay in such a place. Due to this very bad experience I will not come back to this region. Please remove this minshuku from your offer as I was not the only person chocked by this minshuku! It is a shame to have people to live this horrible experience. The region is very nice but due to this experience I did not enjoyed it.

Dirty & un cared for accommodation
Our second night in Minshuku Adumayaso was well below par. We were very disappointed with how much we paid for such an average accommodation. The food was fine and we enjoyed it. However the facility itself was dirty and seemed very unkept. Sinks were mouldy, there was blood on our sheets and overall it wasn’t pleasant at all. I wouldn’t recommend anyone staying there for that price, at all! We feel really disappointed paying so much money for a dirty experience - especially compared to the other places.

Run Down Budget Minshuku
This accommodation is very run down; paint peeling, stained carpets, toilet out of service... What the staff can control they do well - friendly reception, good meals, clean room and dining area - and even hot tea and a small cake upon arrival.

Tired but does all that you want
The building is a little tired and in need of an upgrade however the room was clean, spacious and presentable, the food was good Japanese style, and we were able to use the good onsen in the sister Ryokan across the road. The only down are the trough style washing facilities across the corridor which are a little utilitarian.

The worst ryokan I met on the Kumano Kodo, unfortunately. The place is not clean and everything looks old and not help up properly (rusty faucets, dirty walls, toilets and a hot tub you really do not want to use). The food was bad, too. No value for money.

Minshuku Adumayaso provided a welcome place to stay for our first night. It wasn't as clean as all the other accommodations we experienced in Japan. The food was plentiful though. As an overflow for the larger Ryokan up the road, I felt it didn't have the atmosphere of a family run establishment.

Maximum Adventure - Nonaka-no-Ipposugi (Nakahechi Route) to Yunomine via Akagi-goe
What a trip, I walked 30km in just over 10hrs.
One of the hardest walks I have ever done. The constant rain and +30degress didn't help either.
It was a one way journey so I had a 20kg pack in tow.
Unfortunately I missed a way point due to some confusing sign and had to back track a few km.
Due to the weather and getting lost, I arrive well after 10pm at the guest house.
To my surprise he kept the door open and there was food for me :)
Best thing possible after such a journey.
Much appreciated.

A great first ryokan-onsen experience
This was my first night in an onsen village. I greatly enjoyed this accommodation as a first experience. The dinner and breakfast were especially good and in enough quantities. There is only one bath in the facility, but one can use the baths in another ryokan located less than five minutes by walk. The room is provided with the minimum equipment but remains charming for a short stay. The reception was a bit cold and there is always this disagreeable impression that foreigners are not welcome because they are not able to fully appreciate the japanese traditions. But otherwise I didn't have so much contact with the staff, so I shouldn't judge further.

The room was clean and spacious, the baths on site are not inviting nor relaxing to use, despite the fact that they were thermal waters. The good thing is that we had acces to the baths of the Ryokan on the other side of the road and they were very big, confortable and also had out doors baths and a sauna.

worst bath ever
The place is shabby and the hosts could be more helpful - there is no english signage. The bath is very/too hot but the shower is cold - making for a stimulating but not enjoyable experience. In a village reknown for its baths, this place offered the worst bath experience for us. Wife locked in toilet also not a high point of our stay here. But hey, the food was great - only reason for 2 stars! Special onsen coffee, onsen eggs and onsen rice. We were lucky to experience, in glorious spring sunshine, the annual spring festival that involved dads carrying their young sons about 3-4km over the mountain to Hongu - much colour and tradition. But this minshuku is not such good value and maybe nearby ryoken with outdoor baths would be better option.

Minshuku Adumaya-so
Very friendly and nice people with a nice onsen bath. I took a bath in the evening and the morning. The room was plain and somewhat worn, as was the bathroom. The food was quite good.
As for pre-trip planning: I did not know where the temporary shuttle from Hungo stopped. A taxi driver helped me find out. Advance info would have helped.

People are great. Minshuku is run down and dingy.
Mixed result: First, I had difficulty sleeping because of the smell of mold. Granted there was a recent typhoon, but they could cleaned this place up. For the money, I was not happy. It was closer to a hostel than a comfortable accommodation. On the other hand, the reception was fantastic, and the food was splendid. I really liked the people, but in the morning, I couldn't wait to leave.

Minshuku Adumaya-so
My stay at Minshuku Adumaya-so was great. The room was pretty basic but clean and the toilets were shared but this is standard for a minshuku. The staff were friendly with one staff memeber telling me all about the different food I was eating. The onsen baths over at Ryokan Adumaya (which we were able to use) were wonderful. Yunomine Onsen is a lovely little onsen town.
