Riverside Guesthouse
Minshuku Chikatsuyu is a small family-run guesthouse located in the Chikatsuyu village along the Hiki-gawa River. The Hisui-no-yu onsen is a hot spring bath next to the inn. The onsen water is famous for its smooth texture. Minshuku Chikatsuyu is popular with pilgrims and walkers on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. The view from the dining room opens onto the river and mountains beyond. This minshuku is quiet and peaceful, with many guests relaxing outside by the river after their pilgrimage walk. There are guestrooms in the main building plus two annex rooms with ensuite facilities.

オーナーの方はとても親切で、 一緒に泊まった方もいい人ばかりでした。 何も調べずに熊野古道に来たのですが、ルート等教えていただき、翌日はとても有意義なものになりました。 温泉は優しいお湯で、いつまでも入っていられそう。部屋や設備も清潔で、旅に欲しいものは揃っています。 ご飯も全て美味しく頂けましたし、お弁当美味しかったです。

民宿 ちかつゆ
本当に最高の宿でした。皆さんがとても穏やかな笑顔で迎えてくれます。室内はとても清潔で私たちが汚した玄関も次の朝には綺麗に掃除されていました。 1月の寒い時期に宿泊したのでお風呂が離れだったのが心配でしたが湯冷めも無くおふろの湯で肌がしっとり最高でした。 外人さんの宿泊がメインなのかパンフレットは全て英語でしたが、夕食までに日本語のパンフレットと次の日のバス乗り場等の記載までして頂き 本当に感謝してます。夕食はビックリする美味しさと種類のおおさ。朝は洋食ですが本当に満足します。 ぜひ、泊まれるならもう一度泊まりたい宿です。宿泊予約が難しい人気宿ですが、お勧めです。

Minshuku Annex in Chikatsuyu
We were a group of three adults and stayed in the annex, which had three comfortable beds. The place was very cute and clean, and we were given traditional robes to wear. The onsen was clean and relaxing, with a lovely view of the stream behind the property. The meals were amazing, and the hosts were incredibly friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

Warm and wonderful!
We had a warm and wonderful stay for two nights at Sumiya. Kohei-san and family were very welcoming and so helpful - even though we didn't order dinner from them, they made sure we had dinner by recommending restaurants suitable for our dietary requirements and even sent and picked us up from the restaurant. We really appreciated that in the cold wintry night. The rooms and facilities were clean and well-maintained, we had really good nights' sleep the two nights we were there. The breakfast and Bento were also delicious! We were there when the Senninburo was happening, and Sumiya provided towel ponchos and even swimwear for guests to enjoy the activity. Really can't recommend this warm establishment enough!

The owners were very kind and helped me send my extra luggage (it wasn't in my original plans, and they helped send it to my next accommodation). The accommodation is next to a stream, a few blocks from the trail, very beautiful. The room was spacious, and the bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. I didn't try the onsen since it was very hot the day I arrived. The food was plentiful and delicious. I am very grateful to have stayed with them. Thank you very much!

Gem in Kumano Kodo
Minshuku Chitkatsuyu is a real gem in the Kumamo Kodo hike especially if you need a night rest in Chitkatsuyu. Starting with a warm welcome from the owner Yuta and his wife Miki. The room is impeccably clean and spacious. Shared toilet is also well maintained and very clean. They even have onsen on site. The location is along the river and you will have a good night sleep for the next day’s walk. Miki does a very job to prepare meals for dinner, breakfast and a walking lunch. I am very glad to have the opportunity to stay with them. Thank you.

One of the best experience of a life time
We had an amazing trip doing the Komano Kodo. The best part; the people. In Minshuku Chikatsuyu we find a loving family that put all of their kindess and afection to everything they do. Relaxing break
Minshuku Chikatsuyu was a relaxing break after our first day of hiking the Kumano Kodo. It's in an excellent location with amazing and friendly staff. The meals were excellent and the room was comfortable. We'd highly recommend staying here.

民宿ちかつゆ宿泊について
熊野古道を歩いてたどり着いた民宿ちかつゆさんでしたが、宿の方がとても親切で気持ちよく宿泊する事が出来ました。 また、設備も綺麗で手入れが行き届いており、特に温泉が泉質、温度などとても心地よく癒されました。 朝に入浴できないのが非常に残念でした。 食事もとても美味しく満足できました。 食堂から見える熊野古道の山々と川の風景がとても美しく、また訪れたくなりました。

Great mid point stay with onsen
Everything is on point for a solo traveller like me and I was pleasantly surprised that the aircon was already turned on when I checked into the room. I also love it that I do not have to make my own futon bedding as a room with normal bed frame with mattress was assigned to me. The onsen is basic but is so important in soothing the muscles. The view outside the accom is so therapeutic and I enjoyed just resting outside with the view of the river just before dinner. Dinner was awesome and every dish was meticulously prepared. I added another bowl of rice too! Breakfast was also enjoyable. Lunchbox maybe just a sandwich but the bread was soft and fluffy and that made it a very satisfying meal at mid hike. I am full of praise for this accom!

1泊2食＋弁当付きで予約させてもらいました。 温泉付きでしたが、あまりゆっくり入ることができなかったので⭐︎4にしています。しかし、歩き疲れた足を休めたり汗を流してサッパリできたことは本当にありがたかったです。 食事はすべて美味しかったです！ また今回は熊野古道を歩きに行っていたので、民宿の方から翌日以降のルートの話などを伺えたのでとても参考になりました。 また機会がありましたら、ぜひ利用させてもらいたいです。

The best spot to chill after bath
The minshuku locates just by the river. They have Onsen and right after took the bath, you can chill on the bench by the river. After all the walk and refreshment in onsen, you can soak in the sound and wind of nature. Super chilling moment. The food was very good and have a nice view of river and mountain as well. They serve you a lot and you will get full for sure. Also I personally super moved by that the room was super air conditioned when we arrived the minshuku in the hot day.

雨に濡れたままのチェックインでしたが、丁寧に対応頂き、ありがとうございました。 靴のラバーが剥げてしまいましたが、スペアの靴をご用意いただいて、大変助かりました。 幸い、壊れかけた靴で完踏できましたが、スペアを持っていることで安心して歩くことができました。 部屋にＴＶがあるとなお良かったですが、外国人主体の宿のため無かったのだと思いました。山間の宿で静かに過ごすことができ、返って良かったかもしれません。

A good stay
A nice location by the river. The room was comfortable. There are limited toilets/sinks but I never had to wait (despite the accommodation being full) and they were kept clean. Showers are in the onsen. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, very tasty vegetarian meals. Lunch was very light, only a sandwich. The dining set up is conducive to meeting and chatting with others, which was nice.

Amazing stay
Perfect stay. The hosts were so hospitable, the location very zen and beautiful, the rooms were very comfortable and clean, the onsen was AMAZING, and the food, one of the best on our trip. I can't say enough wonderful words about this Minshuku. The location is not too far from the path and bus stop. Minshuku Chikatsuya made our trip very memorable. Highly recommend!

Second day on Kumano Kodo
Really enjoyed our stay at Minshuku Chikatsuyu. We stayed in the annex which had a private bathroom and shower. The facilities were great, very clean and beds were very comfortable. Relaxed on the lawn outside the annex gazing at the river.Dinner was excellent and the dining room afforded the opportunity to chat with other guest which was fun. Breakfast very good. What an atmosphere
The Guesthouse of our choice was cancelled due to not foreseen reasons but we were immediately transferred to this one....actually it was an upgrade. It was absolutely fantastic in every way. We are so grateful to the organization....the whole kumanokodo was an unforgettable experience.

Clean and convenient
The riverside location is very pretty and the river sounds at night are relaxing. The beds in our room were futons placed on wooden bed bases…didn’t like this half-way arrangement. Would rather futons on the tatami, or western beds. Dinner was delicious and we appreciated the western breakfast - it fuelled us for the day’s activities. Appreciated it was served early so we could make the morning bus. Lunch box of 2 half sandwiches (triangles) was very minimal.

The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage was something that I have always wanted to do for a few years now, and I wanted to do it while i could still walk. I must admit the first day from Takijiri to Chikatsuyu was very challenging especially as my knees are not too good. What a relief to be able to stay in Minshuku Chikatsuyu and enjoy the onsen after a very very hard day. It was very big and clean. The room was basic but had a lovely view of the river, especially magical in the morning when it's covered by mist. Love this minshuku and the surroundings. Dinner was plentiful and so delicious. We were so full. Breakfast was also very generous. The owners are so sweet and cheerful. Would love to stay here again if I ever come by Chikatsuyu.

オーナーご夫妻とお父様の心温まる対応に感謝します😊 インバウンド客が大部分みたいなので、仕方がないとは思いますが、朝食はパンでOKだが弁当もカツサンドでは 日本人の古道歩きにはちょっと喉が乾く🤏⁉️ 立地や温泉浴場は期待通りで満足です👌 今度はバイクで紀州路をツーリングするつもりなので、 お世話になりたいと思ってます🙋♂️

A warm dip into Japanese culture
From the moment we set foot in the place, we were welcomed warmly by our hosts. The Minshuku was neat and beautiful with clean and comfortable rooms, a few minutes from the main walking path. Provided with Yukata and excellent instructions for first-timers, we enjoyed the stunning onsen after a hard day's walk. Dinner was massive in flavour and quantity, leaving us full and grateful. We had the best time and would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Chikatsuya - the homemade plum cordial is a must.

Nice stopover point
A great stopover spot for the kumano kodo walk. While this spot is not as fancy or private and has more of a hostel feel, the facilities are great nonetheless. The dinner and breakfast were fantastic. I would only suggest that the lunchbox be significantly more substantial. Many trekkers like us do the 24km stretch from Chikatsuyu to Yonumine Onsen (or 28km to Hongu Taisha), and one sandwich is not enough fuel for that walk.

Great Onsen after a long day hike!
Minshuku Chikatsuyu is one of my favorite stays in Kumano Kodo, the hosts are super friendly and hospitable, the room is spacious and clean and warm (very important in winter! )We ordered breakfast and dinner, both meals were amazing. 朝食をいただいた部屋から見える山々と色づいた木々が素晴らしく綺麗で、泊まって良かったと本当に思いました。また川沿いの桜の木も素晴らしく、訪れた時期は11月でしたが、春にまた古道を歩きたいと感じさせてくれました。その際は民宿ちかつゆさんに宿泊します。なかなか予約を入れられない人気宿ですが。 オーナーさんのお人柄もよく、しばらくお話しさせていただいたのが心地よい時間でした。心のこもったお食事も美味しかったです。

Beautiful first accommodation
The building is a little away of the main road (like 10 minutes), but it's next to the river, so you can fresh up your feet there after a (very) long first day of ups and downs, and they soak in their hot water bath. The staff is supper friendly and welcoming.

Lovely stay

Wonderful trip
I had originally wanted to hike the town but concerns over the typhoon resulted in my taking a bus there instead. I arrived a bit earlier than check-in time so I left my luggage at the minshuku and walked a small part of the Kumano Kodo. Firstly, the area is beautiful and very tranquil. Even if you just walk for 30min, you will see some nice areas. The reception at the minshuku was very warm and caring and I felt very much at home. The room was very clean and comfortable, and had a view of the river. The dinner was incredible! Very fresh, very delicious, and seasoned perfectly. I don't normally like vegetables but these were prepared so well. The breakfast was also very nice, with an assortment of fruit and pastries and eggs. The packed lunch was also just the right amount to carry with you on a hike and to eat while you enjoy the view. All in all, a very memorable stay. I've recommended this minshuku to some friends who are visiting in November. Maybe they will go there too! Thank you so much for the lovely stay!

Best food we had in Japan
Amazing place on the trail fo the Kumano Kodo. The food was amazing and some of the best we have had in Japan. The location is close to the trail and near a good river for swimming. Rooms were clean and comfortable and onsen was great after hiking.

friendly oasis after walking
The staff at Minshuku Chikatsuyu were so kind and accommodating towards me when I showed up hot and tired. They gave me a cold glass of water and a fan as well as a ticket to the local art gallery and lunch recommendations. I had a very pleasant time exploring the area while I waited for checkout time--I found a small coffee shop where the proprietress gave me an egg to have with my iced coffee while I cooled off in her little plant filled shop. The food and camaraderie from my fellow hikers was A+++++++++ Thinking about my visit here is making me smile even as I write this.

Great Place By The River
The accommodation is next to the river which was nice to enjoy the view after dinner. They also have an onsen outside the main building. The hosts were helpful. I enjoyed the food and my stay very much. It is near stores, post office, and the bus stop. Thank you for wonderful stay!

Minshuku Chikatsuyu is a top spot
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Minshuku Chikatsuyu. The highlights were the excellent food served in a beautiful room overlooking the river. We got to meet other guests and chat away. The river side afternoon beers after the first days walk were fantastic. We maybe just needed a bit more lunch the next day though to keep us going. The Manager was really nice to help us out with some food from the kitchen when we asked to bump up our lunch.

熊野古道初めての体験
滝尻王子から山道を登り下りして、そこそこの距離の歩きでした。途中雷雨に見舞われ、最後は結構疲れましたが、近露集落に入ってすぐの近露王子から徒歩わずかの場所にある、立地抜群のお宿です。何より温泉が素晴らしく、疲れた体が大変癒されました。食事も美味しく文句ありません。朝食に出していただいたコーヒーが絶品です。朝早くお宿の周りを散歩した時のあの穏やかな空気が忘れられません。ぜひまた伺いたいと思います。

温泉と川沿いの最高のロケーション
5月に熊野古道を2日にわたって歩き、宿泊させていただきました。川沿い（川に入れます）の気持ちの良い場所です。 お風呂もぬるめ（40度くらい）でのんびりとつかることができました。バスタオル、タオルもあり、ありがたい限りです。 洗濯機＆乾燥機（洗濯機は300円）も利用でき、ハイカーの方にはとても便利かと思います。 お食事処は川を眺めながらのとても素敵なViewです。美味しかったです。 マイボトルがあればお湯もいただけます。宿の方は熊野古道歩きに精通されておられ、雨の時のう回路等、教えていただけます。結論：すばらしい。

Enjoyed the onsen
Minshuku Chikatsuyu is located on a side road in Chikatsuyu next to a river, which was a peaceful setting on a warm day. The onsen bath was a highlight. The room was comfortably sized, the futon bed a bit hard for my preference (could have used a second futon, and the bedding a little short. (There may have been additional bedding available if we had asked.) The dinner and breakfast - both served in group settings - were delicious. The staff understood that most of the guests wanted to leave early to catch the bus the next morning and they were very accommodating of the timing.

Welcoming, comfortable and a delight
Minshuku Chikatsuyu is a delight. Yuta-san and his family are lovely people and welcoming. The meals are excellent, the accomodation comfortable and the location by the river is peaceful and scenic. The onsen bath is perfect for sore muscles after a day’s hiking. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! I hope to visit again.

Fantastic start to our hike!
My husband was a bit skeptical about doing this hike but our reception and meals at this guesthouse made him forget all his worries. The dinner meal was EXQUISITE, best beef shabu we've ever had. The onsite onsen was also very clean and warm, great for relaxing the muscles. The hosts were wonderfully welcoming and explained everything very nicely. Would recommend this accommodation to anyone doing the Kumano Kodo trail.

Wonderful Stop On Trail
After a strenuous hike, we were very happy to arrive at Minshuku Chikatsuyu. We were greeted warmly and shown all of the amenities. The onsen was very soothing. Lovely location and great meal
Beautiful spot by the river, more picturesque than expected! Dinner was delicious and everyone was very friendly and kind. We met lots of other guests at the guesthouse and met them on the trails later. Only thing to know is that if you stay in Chikatsuyu and you need to take the bus in the AM to shorten your walk, it leaves very early!

Private onsen, and calming location by the river
There is a private onsen in this accomodation. It is a nice soak while looking out into the river. The dining room also has the same view of the river. Imagine having your breakfast while watching the running water, how calming! At night, you can hear the sounds of running water as you fall asleep. There is also laundry facilities in this accomodation, and it is coin operated. Hosts are very friendly, food is generous. They make their own plum juice, so be sure to try that.

素晴らしいお宿です
夕食、朝食どちらも出来立てで何を食べても美味しく量も適量で一日の疲れが取れました。新館に泊まるのは初めてでしたが、清潔に掃除されていてました。ホコリやカビ一つなく本当に素晴らしいです。 お正月の時期でしたし、川沿いの立地なので寒いかな？と思っていましたが、断熱もしっかりした建物で暖かくて、朝までぐっすり良く眠ることが出来ました。お布団もシーツも清潔です。接客も大変親切で、予定がなければ連泊したいくらいでした。

Kind and Sweet B&B
The Owner is so kind to introduced the facilities of the B&B in detail. My room had been heating before i arrived, very warm and comfortable. Let me to take a quick nap. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Tempura and pickled eggplant is my favorites. The temperature of onsen is comfortable. After so many days in Japan, this is the best place for me to rest. If I have the opportunity to come to Chikatsuyu again, I will choose 民宿ちかつゆ again. Thanks!

朝の入浴がしたかった。

Great accommodation on Kumano Koto
Minshuku Chikatsuyu is a great accommodation to relax and refresh for Kumano Koto walkers. It is easy to find and very convenient with only 5 to 10 minutes walk to Kumano track. It is located right next to the river, visitors can relish the beautiful view when staying there. The greatest is that it has its own onsen, which opens 15:00 to 20:00 pm. After walking for 15 km, I felt totally refreshed by taking a hot spring bath. The meals far exceeded my expectations and very delicious. The room is cozy and very clean. The owner is friendly and hospitable. I really enjoyed my stay in Minshuku Chikatsuyu.

Great stay
We stayed there for one night to start our kumono kodo walk. It’s surprisingly good! The hosts are very nice. The meal’s one of the best meals we had in Japan!

近露で泊まるならお勧めです
滝尻から歩いて、「民宿ちかつゆ」さんで1泊しました。 すごくありがたかったのが、15時から入れる温泉です。 チェックイン後すぐに温泉に入れたので、汗でベタベタだった体もスッキリできました。湯船も広く、疲れた足を思いっきり伸ばせるのがとても気持ち良かったです。 食事も美味しくいただき、清潔でキレイなお布団でぐっすり眠れました。おかげ様で、翌日は無事本宮まで歩けました。 スタッフの方達も丁寧に対応してくださって本当に泊まって良かったです。また、近露で泊まる時は利用させていただこうと思います。

A cozy and clean room with excellant service
The Japanese-style room is cozy and spacious, dinner and breakfast are excellent, lunch bag is suitable for a girl but maybe not enough for an adult man. The hotel is located in a quiet and beautiful valley, the onsen is a big surprise for our hiking journey!

全てが良かったのですが、なにより良かったのは民宿ちかつゆのお二人の心遣いでした。 雨が降るかもと折り畳み傘を持たせてくださったり、早く着いた場合にも荷物を受け取ってくださったり。たくさんの旅行者がいましたが、誰であっても気持ちよく対応されていて、いい場所でいい時間を過ごすことができているなと嬉しい気持ちになりました。 周辺の散策に出て、戻るたびに、遠くに顔が見えると手を振ってくださったのも、とても嬉しかったです。 裏に流れる川もとてもきれいで、いつでも足をつけることができて気持ちよかったです。また訪れたい宿の一つになりました。

This minshuku was really a big highlight for us. The rooms were beautiful (super new and clean). But the food was the best part - dinner was superb and breakfast too. We enjoyed it very much.

Our stay at this beautiful minsuku
We had a wonderful time at minsuku chikatsuyu. The hosts made us feel very welcome and the food is absolutely fabulous! The dinning room has a beautiful view facing the river . Definitely recommend this place as a good stop point for the Nakahrchi route .

Location is gorgeous- big windows in the dining hall open right onto the river and mountains. Onsen also has a window you can open for fresh air and river views. Service was exceptional. Food was fantastic. I’ve never been a big fan of eggplant, but they made a braised eggplant dish that was to die for! Along with the plethora of other tiny dishes. They even accommodated my vegan (minus dairy) friend by making him a great meal without using dashi.

Lovely spot on the river
This was a lovely spot to stay while hiking the Kumano Kodo. The guesthouse has the only onsen in town, which was beautiful and overlooked the river. The room was comfortable and quiet. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and also included great views of the river. I personally would have preferred a more traditional packed lunch like onigiris, but the sandwich fillings tasted good.

熊野古道で温泉はありがたい
滝尻～熊野本宮までの歩き旅で利用しました。 滝尻～近露の区間は急坂続きでクタクタになるので、温泉の広いお風呂は本当にありがたい！お湯につかって窓を開けると川を眺められ露天気分。到着後と夕食後の2回入りました。 夕食は、お刺身、川魚、揚げたての天ぷら、豚の蒸し焼きに炊き込みご飯など、どれもおいしく頂きました。海外客の方が多いので、朝食は洋風、お弁当はサンドイッチで、こちらもおいしかった。 オーナーご夫妻の気配りも素晴らしく気持ちのよい宿で、翌日も元気に歩くことができました。 温泉はお肌がしっとりするトロトロのお湯ですが、湯船の底が滑りやすくなっているので、注意書きや手すりがあるとよいです。

熊野古道を歩いて、近露さんで宿泊しました。お部屋は綺麗でとてもゆっくりできました。温泉もこじんまりしてますが、山の中という感じで素敵でした。お料理もたいへん美味しくて(^^)おひつをおかわりして空にしてしまうぐらいです。宿のマスターもママも良い方で翌日歩く古道のアドバイスもしていただきました。翌日は作っていただいたお弁当を道中食べたのですが、これがサイコーに古道歩きをより昔にタイムスリップさせてくれました。

期間限定の鮎の炊き込みご飯がとてもおいしかったです。梅ジュースもおいしかった。 熊野古道には歩くためだったので食事はあまり重視してませんでしたが、疲れたあとに美味しい食事、川の音が聞こえる温泉、きれいなお部屋はとても嬉しかったです。 宿の方にも丁寧に対応していただいて、良かったです。 ありがとうございました。

翌日が悪天候で古道の行程を悩んでいたところ、宿のご主人から夕食時にショートカットするオプションをご提案いただき大変ありがたかった（そのルートは個人的にインタネットでは見つけられていなかった）。結局提案いただいたコースでやや短い行程となったが、本宮でのバスの時間にも余裕ができ安全な行程とすることができた。 お風呂も温泉でゆっくりできたが、アメニティがなかったのがやや残念であった。（ボディソープがなく、固形石鹸とリンスインシャンプー）浴室にはドライヤーが一つしかなかったため、もう少しドライヤーを増やしてほしい（各部屋にひとつなど）。洗濯機の設備があり大変ありがたかった。

全てが思いやり尽くされたお宿でした
当日は大雨の中歩いて到着したので全身ずぶ濡れでしたが、気兼ねなく部屋に入れるようにビニールシートやタオルなどをすぐに用意してくださり、大変助かりました。歩いて到着する人のことをとてもよくわかってくださっているお宿だと感じました。 すぐにお風呂にも入れて、体を温めたおかげで大雨での疲労も翌日に持ち越さず、楽しく歩き切ることができました。 同行者の靴が壊れてしまったのですが、ご主人が捨てる靴だから、と変わりの靴を下さってそれも大変たすかりました。ご飯も美味しくて、全てが心温まるおもてなしでした。ありがとうございます。

ステキなお宿でした
熊野古道を歩いて初日のお宿でした。良い意味で周りには何もありません。 私が泊まったのは新館と言うこともあり、とても新しく、とても綺麗でした。 お食事も、量も味も満足でした。温泉もあって、とろりとしたお湯は熊野古道の歩いた疲れを癒やしてくれます。 若いご夫婦が接客してくれましたが、人柄の良さが、分かるオーナーさんです。色々な話をオーナーさん、他のお客様と楽しんでステキな夕食の時間を過ごせました。 是非また行きたいお宿です。

素晴らしいお宿でした
滝尻から熊野本宮大社まで1泊2日で歩いた際、近露にあるこちらに宿泊しました。バス停から徒歩すぐで、すぐ横に川が流れておりロケーション最高です。新館ではない方のお部屋だったのですが、隅々までお掃除が行き届いていてとても気持ちよく過ごせました。何より、食事がとても美味しくて感動しました。特に名物の鮎の炊き込みご飯が香ばしくつまみにもなる味で2回もおかわりしてしまった程です。お酒も安いです。温泉も源泉かけ流しでとても良いお湯でした。全般に、民宿とは思えないクオリティで、このお宿に泊まりにまた和歌山に行きたいです。

民宿としてはもったいないお料理の充実さと美味しさは旅館レベル。お部屋も清潔で、マットが敷かれていたのがハイカーにとっては山歩きの疲れを癒せたので非常にありがたい。お風呂も天然温泉で非常に贅沢。接客も良かった。おにぎりにもう少し塩が効いていればなお最高でしたが、鮭を入れてくれていたので心遣いも感じられました。十分満足で他人にお勧めできます。 大変お世話になりました。

Beautiful riverside location
I enjoyed my one-night stay at Minshuku Chikatsuyu. Due to Covid and the that it was a weekday I was the only guest. Nevertheless, the owner and his partner showed me such warmth and hospitality. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, the onsen at the inn was closed. The meals were wonderful. The dinner had so many delightful dishes, including tempura. Because the onsen was closed, the owner kindly provided me with a packed lunch in the morning. I enjoyed staying here very much

After a long day of trekking, it was lovely to end up at this minshuku located by a picturesque setting by a running stream. We most enjoyed the dinner here, especially the fish. The dining room had great view of the running stream as well.

Typhoon Hagibis
Our room had ensuite shower and toilet and was very clean and comfortable. There were two seperate onsens for male and female, very welcome after a days walking. Meals were served in the main house in a communal dinning area which gave us an opportunity to meet other walkers and compare notes. Unfortunately the track was closed the following day and buses were all cancelled due to Typhoon Hagibis. Our host organised cars to take all the guests to their next destinations so the flow of guests from accommodation to accommodation was not disrupted. Impressed with the organisation, communication and care for our welfare. Much appreciated. Highly recommend.

The property was located very centrally and easy to find. The riverside location was sensational and provided a great place to relax after a hard morning walking. 初めての熊野古道への5泊6日の旅行で、初日に利用させていただきました。 これまでの旅行では、日中ほとんど外にいることから寝るところと簡単な朝食があればよいとの考えで、ビジネスホテルタイプのホテルばかり利用していました。 今回もそのつもりでしたが、熊野古道界隈はそういうところがなく、かといってゲストハウスは好みではなく、予算の関係もあって困っていたところ、本サイトでちかつゆさんを見つけたという次第です。 ちかつゆさんは家族で経営されており、ほんわかとした印象の民宿。 心づくしの懐石料理タイプの夕食も嬉しく思いました。 今回は私の体力不足もあり、歩いての移動の予定がバスでの移動になったところもあったため、またいつかチャレンジしたいと決意いたしました。 その節は、また熊野トラベルさんにお世話になりたいと思います。 この度はありがとうございました。

Good with multiple people
Where our first night was very private, here we stayed with 7 other guests. This was actually pretty nice as you get to have a conversation with other people walking the Kumano Kodo. The baths were nice, the location next to the river quite beautiful, the staff was friendly.

We enjoyed a fantastic stay at Minshuku Chikatsuyu, on our first night of the Kumano Kodo. The brand new Annex Room we had was spotlessly clean, with absolutely top rate facilities. The Onsen was great, with a brilliant riverside location, and relaxing view (from the Men's). Dinner, Breakfast, and Bento Lunch was of the highest quality. I'd recommend this property without hesitation to any Kumano walkers.

Here is my original e.mail: The owners at Minshuku Chikatsuyu were extremely kind and generous. And accommodating when the gentleman picked us up at a bus stop about one kilometre from their inn, exhausted and unable to finish the trail! The onsen was greatly appreciated after such a challenging day, the dinner delicious, as were the breakfast and the lunch box. Kindly forward our deepest appreciation to the owner, a nice gentleman with a tan apron (sorry, I do not have his name), again a perfect host. The location by the river was very soothing...

What a great place to stay.
After walking the 14 km from Takijri we arrived at 5:30 pm to the unassuming minshuku to receive a warm welcome. Shown to our room which was in the recently built annex. Very comfortable and clean with tatami and futons, maybe a little hard on the hips. After a shower we walked across to the main building and were shown to a western dining table laden with delicious food. I forget the names of our hosts but the wife and her mother prepare an amazing spread for the weary traveler. Everything in a traditional Japanese feast was expertly prepared. the mushrooms cooked at the table were amazing. Our hosts were warm and friendly engaging in some light conversation and having a few good laughs. They helped in every way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Breakfast was a western continental style affair with thick bread toasted with jam, fruit and yoghurt and maybe some eggs. A substantial meal. Our dinner here was one of our highlight dinners of our trip to Japan. I highly recommend this Minshuku.

It was situated beside the river, beautiful scenery. Minshuku Chikatsuyu always very attentive to the guest making sure we all have a good stay. As for the meals, if only I can give it extra stars, it really superseded my expectations, very tasty food, crunchy tempura. And the home-made umeshu is refreshing. Would love to come back to this minshuku again if I've got the chance. Onsen is available only till 9pm, but I guess for most of us, we were already fast asleep by then. Great breakfast too.

This was our first night in the Kumano Kodo and what a standard they set for accommodation (very new), explanation of everything and most especially the exceptional evening meal. Very much a small family place, we liked that very much. We would have appreciated a little more in our lunch box, especially for the 18 year old in our group, given we had a 24 km walk and an ascent of 820 metres. What was in the box was very good, just a little more would have been good.

We had a great stay! The family running the place are so kind and helpful, we stayed here for 2 nights because we were traveling with our 9 month old daughter and needed a rest day. We did our laundry here and they made sure all of our stuff was dry before we left the next day. Food was yet again amazing. The rooms are very big and we enjoyed the onsen a lot. It has a beautiful location right next to the river. Also gave us good advice and updates about the typhoon that was approaching while we were there.

I really enjoyed my one night stay. I would stay here again if I hike the Kumano Kodo again. Positives - EXCELLENT dinner, very warm and helpful staff, clean onsen for post hike soak, near Kumano trail. Things to be aware of: no check in until 3 pm. I finished hiking around 1:30 and no one is at the hostel. I was able to get food and coffee in town, so not that bad, just be aware. Rooms are basic. Nothing wrong and no complaints, just very spartan.

My night at Minshuku Chikatsuuyu was one of my favourites! The staff were really friendly. They let me check in early when I arrived sooner than I thought I would after walking from Takahara. The baths were a treat, the room was spacious and comfy, and the view of the river is really nice. The dinner was a highlight?one of my favourite meals during my trip! The homemade plum wine was delightful. The hosts also were very thorough and helpful in making sure I was prepared for the long walk to Yunomine the next day. An amazing experience! Thank you!

Amazing food in a breathtaking location
This place is in a stunning location right by the river with the mountains behind, we felt right at home and immediately relaxed. Welcoming Minshuku
The meals here were great and served by the very welcoming manager and staff. One of us has some food allergies and the meals were presented with this in mind, which was much appreciated. Lovely view from dining room to river. The bath was good but in a separate outside building and there was no hot water in the morning. The presentation of the premises outside could be improved by removing old vending machines and junk which were uncharacteristic of the rest of the place. The inside was fine. Recommended.

Best place to relax after hike day 1!
The owner of Minshuku Chikatsuyu was so welcoming, everything was well arranged; the food was great, the onsen lovely and he even helpt us with advise on our day 2 hike. I will never forget this place, its view, best sushi ever tasted and hospitality,

Very friendly and nice staff, not much of a view
This was a pretty nice guesthouse, but not unique. Its exterior is very plain, like a motel, and inside has no view, which is a shame because it's right next to the river- I think with a bit of landscaping it could be a really beautiful place. Also, there was construction when I was there, so overall it didn't feel so relaxing to be there. The meals were very good and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Wonderfrul stay at Minshuku
What a wonderful surprise to find such excellent food and hospitality in such a tiny town along the Kumano Kodo. I can't recomend Minshuku enough the location is excellent, has beautiful views and the owners are so warm and welcoming.

So peaceful
A wonderful spot next to a flowing river, has a wonderful coffee shop at the corner. The food is prepared with care and they go out of the way to make you happy. Cute bath house to ease the soreness out of a day of trekking. I recommend this place and the lunch boxes are adorable.

Excellent service and great experience
The staff here were so accommodating of us and our baby, they made us feel welcome from the start. The food was great, room was a good size and the baths were clean. They went out of their way to speak English for us, organise luggage services and provide advice for or travels. Highly recommend

Homely Minshuku
This Minshuku is basic but clean and comfortable. The onsen is average and there should be a partition between the men’s and women’s onsen. Overall, the hosts are friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast is good too.

お夕食はボリュームがあって、バラエティに富んでいて、かつ手が混んでいて大満足！私は川がすぐ見えるお部屋でいただきましたが、本当に贅沢な時間と空間でしたね。民宿なのですごく豪華とかではないですが、とても清潔で、お宿の方もあたたかく丁寧で、友人におすすめ宿を聞かれたら自信を持って紹介できますね。お部屋の壁はやや薄いので、多少外の音は気になるかもしれませんが、滝尻王子からの距離も絶妙なので（私はあれ以上先には歩けなかったです）迷ったらちかつゆさんが良いと思います！

Wonderful Guesthouse
Our stay here was absolutely brilliant - I just wish we could have stayed longer! The rooms were cosy and perfectly adequate. Where this guesthouse excelled was in the friendliness of the staff and the dinner that we felt so privileged to eat. The staff were super friendly and informative, we were made to feel really welcome and given all the information we needed in order to make plans for the next day (bus schedule etc.). Like I said, we were most impressed by the dinner that we ate here - one of the best meals we ate whilst in Japan. And the dining room itself was a beautiful setting with the river running by next to it. The beautiful view of the landscape enhanced our enjoyment of the meal for sure. One minor criticism would be the size of the baths and the lack of a clock in the actual bathing rooms but perhaps the austere nature of the onsen here adds to the charm. I'd 100% recommend this place to anyone looking to do Kumano Kodo.

Minshuku Chikatsuyu - Quiet Onsen and great food
Room was very spacious. Bathrooms are shared but was not a problem. Liked they had a washer and drier(!!). We were able to clean and dry some of our clothes from the past 2 days of hiking, which was very nice. We ate in the Japanese style room which overlooked the river and was really nice. Only negative is that I can't sit cross legged well, so that was a litte uncomfortable. Onsen was nice after hiking and overlooked the river as well. Food was really good and service was excellent.

夕食は凝った料理が多くとても美味しかったです。アマゴの唐揚げはシンプルながら素材が生かされていました。沢山の具入りのかやくご飯も良い味付けでした。一方、朝食はパンではなく白飯中心のメニューになると嬉しく思います。また＋800円のおにぎり弁当がおにぎり2個とバナナ1本はがっかりです。宿から本宮まで徒歩で25kmあることを考えると、値段を上げても良いのでしっかりした弁当を提供すべきです。

Welcome relief

Exceptional experience
I loved staying at Minshuku Chikatsuyu. Chikatsuyu is a beautiful village and the guesthouse is easily reached from the Kumano Kodo trail. It's close to bus stops as well. We were made to feel very welcome and were given lots of advice about the best walk to take the next day (there was a Typhoon on the way while we stayed there so the advice on shortening the trek was very, very helpful in bad weather!) The food is amazing - the best we had in Japan. Just what we needed after a long day's walk! Lunch was provided for the next day and, again, it was amazing. So delicious. Baths are only in Onsen style public baths - this was a bit of a shock for my boyfriend but he enjoyed the experience and the hot baths are great for aching legs. Baths are clean and well kept. The room was also clean and well kept. Very spacious compared to other places we stayed while in Japan and there was an area for drying wet clothes. Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone travelling through Chikatsuyu.

This was the best place we stayed in our whole three week trip to Japan!
We loved Minshuku Chikatsuyu very much. It's a beautiful property with spacious, comfortable rooms and great amenities. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful, with excellent hospitality from the moment we walked in. The food at dinner, breakfast and lunch was delicious and far exceeded our expectations. We loved how the dining room overlooked the river, it was beautiful. We also loved the onsen. Minshuku Chikatsuyu was absolutely perfect (especially after a day of walking in the rain) and we are very grateful to our hosts for such a great experience.

Great guesthouse
The house is an unassuming modern bungalow that houses a welcoming guesthouse. The place was really clean, facilities just what are needed by trekkers on the Kumano Kodo - shower room, washer and dryer and of course an onsen. The room was a good size, and the onsen simple but relaxing. The food was a highlight, tasty, imaginative and well presented. The host family is very welcoming and helpful, and also flexible over timing of breakfast depending on the timing of buses/walk starts. Highly recommended.

Perfect stay
This was the perfect stay along our 2 day Kumano kodo hike. The rooms were comfortable and had a nice view of the garden. The food was great and plentiful and served in a room overlooking the river. Great stay at Minshuku Chikatsuyu
We had a lovely time at this house - the rooms are spacious, the onsen is fantastic, and the food is delicious. On top of this, the hosts are extremely nice and helpful - we had the bad luck to be there when a typhoon was building up the next day, and they were able to help us with the buses/trains (where to take them, when, etc) to get us out of the area safely. Would highly recommend!

Minshuku Chikatsuyu is our first encounter to experience the Japanese way. The guest room is spacious, very clean and well organized. The onsen bath is in a separated building across the walk way, cleaned with a touch of modern decor. The shared restrooms in the lodging are well maintained and clean. Diner at the lodging was a surprise after a long walking day, the host serve our diner with style and elegant dishes we could not ask for more. The owner host is charming to greet every guests at the diner table. We are not hesitated to rate this facility a big "A" for comfort, hospitality and good spirit.

熊野古道巡礼で泊まらせていただきました
滝尻王子から歩いて、15時半ごろに着きました。 大きい風呂と美味しい食事で疲れを落とすことができ、環境も静かで、よく眠れました。 1日目に疲れ切っていましたが、無事に熊野大社まで踏破できました。 翌日のコースについても教えて頂き、これがとても心強かったです。 7時に出発し、15時半に本宮にたどり着きましたが、この時のアドバイスがあったからこそと思っております。 また、到着してから急遽お弁当をお願いしてしまいましたが、対応していただき、誠にありがとうございました。 この度はありがとうございました。

目の前に川を見ながらの食事は美味しくて量も多く、新鮮。景色も良いですし、贅沢な気分に浸れました。 旅行前に考えていたコースがありましたが、体力を考えて変更したため、地図やバスの時刻など情報が足りていなかったのですが、こちらからお聞きする前に、ちかつゆさんの方から翌日のコースを気にして相談に乗ってくださいました。とても行き届いた配慮だと感謝しています。ありがとうございました。

We arrived at Minshuku Chikatsuyu in torrential rain (the edge of the typhoon) and our hosts were very welcoming and helpful. They provided extra towels to help the walkers dry off. The meals were great, and the obento just perfect for the trail the next day. Our hosts were very helpful in providing information about buses and walking options for the next day. The ofuro was very pleasant especially with the windows open to the rain and views of the river. A delightful stay, enhanced by the exciting stormy weather. Clean, comfortable family environment. Just what we were hoping for.

Day 1 Walk Kumano Kodo. Welcome sight
This family guest house is 5 minutes walk from main street along side river. Rooms traditional Japanese and very clean. Toilets and showers inside and same sex onset outside. All lovely and clean. Rooms have TV and reception area has wifi. Washing machine and dryer available. Meal at end room have both Japanese sitting and western tables and chairs if knees sore. Beer available. Father and son and daughter we saw, very helpful with bus advise and distances for next day walk. Lots of discussion on possible Typhoon approaching. Dinner lovely with home made plum wine and lunch box good. This is a lovely relaxed place in beautiful quite town. Could have easily spent another night.

食事も温泉もとても良かったです
宿はシンプルに限ります。一番は清潔であること。全館禁煙がとても良かったです。アレルギーがある私が泊まれる宿がないことが、旅行するときの一番の憂鬱です。都市のホテルなどは 眠りにこだわり空気環境にもこだわり有機栽培野菜の朝食付きのホテルなどに泊まっていますが、地方はまだまだ遅れていて芳香剤を部屋においたり、トイレもひどい芳香剤の臭いでで充満していたりでサービスを勘違いされているところが多いです。 「民宿ちかつゆ」は良かったです。川のそばで６月にはホタルも見れるとか。温泉が宿の外にありお湯もとろりとしていて効能ありそうで、川を眺めながら入りました。 お風呂もシンプルで山歩きの好きな私にはそういうのが一番いいです。 食事がほんとにおいしかったです。温泉旅館のような、豪華な食事を旅行中毎日食べたいとは思いません。丁寧に手作りした家庭料理、プラスアルファ、の食事は味付けが抜群に上手で、ほんとに感動しました。普段添加物を避けて生活クラブの食材などを食べ慣れている私は、外食しても美味しいと評価できるようなことはあまりありません。しかし、民宿ちかつゆの食事はとてもおいしかったです。この地域の食の豊かさをか感じました。 お弁当はおにぎりでした、このおにぎりも握り具合、塩加減、とても美味しかったです。 お料理が上手な人が丹精込めて作っているのだと思います。近露の集落の全体がきれいです。過剰なものがない、ぴかぴかやぎらぎらした神経を疲れさせるものがない、やまがきれいに見える、空気が良い、集落に花が咲いている、昔ながらの落ち着いた人の暮らしがある。きっとまた訪れたくなると思います。

Really nice stay in Chikatsuyu
Professionally run and very nice Ryokan. The meals were very tasty and well prepared. The site by the river is beautiful and you will hear lots of frogs outside as you watch the firefly's. The ability to do laundry here was a big plus. Only downside is communal toilets, but they are very clean and really not an issue.

Minshuku Chikatsuyu is a beautiful place to stay after a long hiking, close to the river and with an onsen. The dinner and the breakfast were both very good, the lunch box was not the best (two onighiri filled with bonito and see weeds, not very tasty...), but overall we did love our stay there.

Peaceful Stay
The minshuku is situated next to the river which provides a beautiful and serene background to the main house and onsen bathhouse. A highlight of my Kumano Kodo was watching the sunset by the river after a nice long hot bath. The dinner and breakfast provided was perfect with some amazing local produce. But what makes this minshuku really stand out is the service provided by the family - kind, generous and welcoming. Recommended!

a warm welcome in the middle of the trek
Simple and unfussy but clean and most welcoming Minshuku. this minshuku surpassed all expectations. the sense of pride of the owners, in serving guests with ready drinking water, and especially in the food that was served, certainly the best meals (supper and Breakfast and lunchbox) of the trip. View from the dining room as enjoyable - the broad river. The bath was also of good standard, quite happily patronised by locals as well, and most welcomed after a grueling trek.

Fantastic Host
Myself and two friends stayed here during our Kumano Kodo hike. Probably our favourite place we stayed across our 2 weeks in Japan - the host was fantastic! The dinner was a great experience with the host preparing it for you at your table. After dinner he helped us sort out our itinerary for the next day. Absolute legend! Also, there is an onsen onsite.

I was very pleased with the level of general service and the meals. The hosts were very helpful and the meals were well suited to non-Japanese people. I think they were very well prepared and had some little extra touches, like locally made plum wine. The downside was that my room was in an outbuilding, because the main building had a lot of guests in. It was a little cold and I had to get extra blankets out of the cupboard. The main disadvantage was that in order to use toilets or showers I had a five minute walk to the main building. The onsen was very good.

Really yummy dinner (amazing tofu hotpot) and lunch box! Lucky for that, as the room was very basic and we had to share facilities (basins,toilets). The onsen is open to the town and gets crowded. Family run and they were very friendly. Would return for the food. Their onigiri lunch box was tasty even for someone like me who does not like onigiri.

My favourite place in Japan
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time here. We stayed here for one night after hiking from Takijiri-oji. It was the perfect place to relax after the hike, the onsen were exactly what we needed. All of the staff who worked here were truly lovely and welcoming. They gave us lots of useful and practical information about our hike the next day. Best of all was the food. Dinner was multiple courses and all delicious. We had the host chat to us through most of the meal as well so it felt very personal. Breakfast was perfect before our hike; it was western style with brioche, fruit, yoghurt and an egg. We opted against the lunch and were able to buy some food at the local supermarket. Overall, we couldn't recommend this place more.

kumano walk
We loved this family run ryokan. The owners were friendly and helpful and the food delightful and explained well with some English.We appreciated the special New Year's Day food offered. A peaceful quiet town and the indoor onsen at the back of the ryokan next to the river was a welcome retreat after a beautiful walk from Takhiri!

Stay at Minshuku Chikatsuyu
Our stay here was a great experience and the hosts were very warm and hospitable. The room, onsen and other facilities were in excellent condition and the food was probably the best we had on the Kumano Kodo trail (Highlights being the homemade umeshu and the cantaloupe ice cream) Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to the hosts for making our stay a wonderful experience. An Exceptional Minshuku
Having lived in Japan before and travelled extensively, I can honestly say the hosts at Minshuku Chikatsuyu went above and beyond to make their guests confortable. The food was the best we had on this trip and we stayed at(and paid for)some significantly more expensive properties. I cannot recommend this place enough. Our room was delightful and the packed lunch for our hike to Hongu Taisha was lovely as well. If we are ever back in the area, we will indeed come to stay. Thank you!

熊野の外国人率の高さにビックリ。 今や、半分どころか7割以上が外国人で、欧米系のご夫婦や女子1人旅の人が多いことを知って認識を新たにした。でも、そんな外国人でも泊まりやすい宿と言う事だろう。 我々も、次の日に歩くコースを親切に解説してもらえて助かった。 食事もおいしいし、風呂が温泉で気持ちよく、トイレも新しくて綺麗。 立地の点が低いのは、進入道路が極狭なため。 車で行ったのだが、進入に勇気が要るのはちょっと困る。 道幅を広げなくても、ガードレールの厚みを減らすとか、工夫でなんとかなると思う。 横を流れる綺麗な川があるのだが、食事の部屋に行かないと見えないのが惜しい。

また泊まりたい！
部屋…十分な広さがあった。布団も寝心地が良かった。廊下の音は響くが皆さん就寝が早く問題ありませんでした。 風呂…別棟の温泉。お湯がぬるかったのとベーシックな設備であったため★二つ。 食事…夕食、朝食+お弁当つきの3食付きプランでしたが心のこもったお料理で大変美味しかった。特に夕食のお鍋が歩き疲れた身体を癒してくれた。 立地…近露王子から徒歩5分。近くて便利でした。 接客…家族経営で特に息子さんが親切で翌日の熊野古道歩きのプランも色々とアドバイスを下さり、大変助かった。 おまけに準備に手間取り出発がギリギリになってしまった私たちをバス停へ送り届けてくださり、本当に有り難かったです。 皆におススメしたい素敵なお宿でした。もし機会がありましたら民宿ちかつゆさんにお礼をお伝えいただければ幸いです。

The family that runs Minshuku Chikatsuyu went well beyond my expectations. After an arduous few hours hiking the first portion of the hike in the pouring rain, we stopped at a small convenience store off the road of the path. We were about a 45min walk to Chikatsuyu, but with th weather we didn't want to walk any further. The convenience store owner knew the family and called the owners son to come pick us up! The food was wonderful and cooked by the mother of the family. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. But most importantly the onsen was awesome! Especially after walking in th cold rain, my fatigued body loved every minute of it. This place is located right by the river and it is so beautiful! Highly highly recommend!!!

Ich hatte einen unvergesslich schonen Aufenthalt in dieser Unterkunft und habe mich selten irgendwo so wohl gefuhlt. Von der herzlichen Begrusung bis zur Verabschiedung war alles perfekt. Am meisten hat mich die Herzlichkeit und die Gastfreundschft in diesem Hause beeindruckt. Ein Highlight war auch das Abendessen was zum Teil frisch am Tisch zubereitet wurde und sehr lecker war. Auserdem bekam ich viele personliche Tips fur meinen weiteren Weg! Das Haus ist sauber und gepflegt und ich wurde dort jederzeit wieder einkehren! Ich kann es nur empfehlen!

Tres bon accueil et excellent diner
Nous avons ete tres bien accueillis au Minshuku Chikatsuyu. La chambre etait confortable et propre. Les bains (onsen) sont dans une annexe juste devant le minshuku, au bord de la riviere. Warm hospitality at the end of the trail
After an arduous day's hike from Tsukiji, arriving at Minshuku Chikatsuyu was heaven. A warm welcome, a superb onsen overlooking the rushing river, a fantastic meal of local dishes and friendly conversation and advice from our hosts. For us (a couple in our 60s), a highlight of walking the Kumano Kodo.

i wish i can stay longer
i was lost and the owner came to pick me up when night falls (i kindly refused and he was waiting at every corner for me so i can finish the last 30mins of the hike of the day!) the broth they made with the spring water nearby was AMAZING. i'll never forget that taste. food is more than enough for a very hungry hiker too. very very very pleased with the service basically :D

This is a lovely ryokan. The owner was welcoming and had good English. The staff were very helpful in the planning of the following days walk as well. It would have been lovely if the meals were served at one large table rather than tables for two only. Having an onsen close by was fabulous.

Owners are very freindly and meals were very delicous. My only complaint compared to other minshukus and ryokans we have stayed at, would be that the facilities did not seem kept up. It would be nice for them to have pride in the grounds, to create special outside area with Japanese tradition and the essence of the Kumano Kodo. The rooms and baths could also use some loving by the owners. After all, many visitors will only experience a few minshukus on their visit. They should have the best experience possible.

Best place to stay on the Kumano-Kodo
Beautiful family-run Minshuku on the river. Stopped in here while hiking the Kumano-Kodo trail from Tanabe and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location by the river is lovely. The place is simple, but tidy and clean, and the baths are very enjoyable. The family is lovely and cooked a splendid dinner and offered us much advice on our next day's hike (we needed it, we had planned poorly! But thanks to their friendly advice, the day was a success). Did I mention the food was delicious? Dinner soup cooked at the table was one of the highlights of the trip, breakfast got us ready, and a lunch for the trail was a happy gift. We truly enjoyed staying with these lovely people.

Minshuku Chikatsuyu
The rooms are very clean and nice and big. There is laundry facilities and detergent were provided so we were able to do our laundry. The mattress were very comfortable and we slept very well. The hosts were very friendly and we were able to converse in simple english. Dinner was great. We had shabu shabu and they cooked it for us at our table. The surrounding enviroment and scenary were very nice and serene, just by the river. The onsen was okay but not great. It wasn't too bad and opening hours are limited. It opens only from 2pm to 8pm. It is in a convenient location, not far from where we finish our trekking at chikatsuyu and descend into the chikatsuyu village. The downside is that the signs were not clear on how to get to the minshhuku. We got directions from a policeman and later from a shop owner when we overshot the turn. Its not difficult to find if you ask the locals. They will direct you to the place. Its only a short walk. No attached toilets but its not a problem at all. Common toilets are very clean and not crowded at all.

Friendly owners and a charming setting
The owners seem to be working very hard to create an atmosphere that is welcoming to foreign clientele. They were very friendly and tried their best to give information to guests and create a welcoming atmosphere. The meal was delicious and they accommodated my dietary requests very well. The location of the minshuku was right next to a river, which was a great place to soak on a hot day. From the onsen, you could open a window to enjoy the view of the river.

Beautiful minshuku beside a river at the foot of the mountains
. Wonderful room, service, food and Onsen. The owners and their son and daughter-in-law are very helpful and friendly. The setting is also gorgeous and after a big first day of hiking, the Onsen is a beautiful way to relax and look out at the tops of the mountains opposite.

Perfect stay in Chikatsuyu
As a solo traveller, the room I had was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the service was excellent. The dinner was delicious and filling. The onsen right next door was just what we hikers needed after a long day on the trail. The breakfast wasn't as good as dinner. But it was fine for the morning, and it was more western since it was mostly just fruit and yogurt.

Absolutely loved this place! Highly recommend it! The service was so wonderful, they were very welcoming and extremely helpful with information regarding the Kumano Kodo trek. The owner's son, who spoke very good English, was very patient with everyone especially with foreigners who were taking a lot of his time asking for information about Kumanokodo, the area, bus schedules, etc. The food was delicious including their home-made Umeshyu and was mostly local to the region. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and our room was very large with a great view of the river. The location was fantastic, it was right on the river. Their onsen, only a few feet from the door of the minshyuku had a great view of the river as well which was quite the treat. We would love to go back, if we have an another opportunity. 絶対にここは良かった！ とてもお勧め！ サ-ビスはとても良かったし、とても歓迎してもらい、熊野古道の情報については随分と助けていただきました。英語がうまい息子さんは皆にとても優しくて、特に熊野古道、付近やバスのスケジュールなど知りたい外人さんに随分時間をかけて教えてました。食事はとても美味しくてほとんど地元の食べ物を使い、特に自家製の梅酒は美味しかった。すべて清潔で居心地が良く、私達の部屋は大きくて川の綺麗な景色のある部屋でした。場所は川べにあり、とても素晴らしい所でした。温泉は民宿から数メートルのところでとても綺麗な川の景色が見れてとても良かった。又行く機会があれば是非行きたいです。

Simple hotel-like minshuku with onsite onsen with views to the river
Hosts are friendly and quite fun. They also help you plan out your trip. English is poor but one can communicate failry well and even have a basic conversation (which is far better than the remaining 99.99% of Japan, where everyone's knowledge of english is absolutly ZERO). The plus to this place is that the village onsen, which is use by other minshukus, is next to the house. This is sooo comfortable. Onsen itself is pretty basic (as in the photos) and has views of the river. Rooms are very large (they fit up to 6 people more or less). Dinner is that standard dinner given at most onsen: several dishes including fried or baked fish, hot pot, etc. Breakfast is western. All very good. They even help you cook it, which is nice. I would recomended this place again due to locations, friendly owners, and the fact that the onsen on the property. It would be nice if they offered bicycles for rent so one could wander around in the afternoon or morning before continuing on the hike.

Best place we stayed in Japan!
Food was amazing, bath was beautiful, people were nice and helpful with planning the hike. Robe was provided for bathing, eating. Food was SO good, Shabu-Shabu prepared with hotspring water, plus additional side plates. The host brought a map to us and explained to us our different options, helping us a select a hike that was a bit shorter since we had a 2 year old with us. Location is right on the river, with Cherry blossoms all around.

A gem
I expected the rooms to be comfortable, the onsen to be good, the owners friendly and the setting beautiful. I didn't expect the dinner to be superb! Fairly simple and perhaps rustic, but one of the best meals we had over 4 weeks in Japan, and that's saying something. The cherry trees by the house were in full bloom, which made for a delightful soak in the onsen after a long day's hike. After dinner, the owners made sure to talk to their guests about their next day's hikes - their local knowledge saved us from attempting too much!

Minshuku Chikatsuyu is owned and operated by possibly the friendliest innkeepers in Japan. The family-run inn is welcoming, the dinner service is warm and personal and the interest in onward travel plans in informative and genuine. The rooms are simple and clean. The bath looks out over a pleasant vista--spectacular in April with the cherry trees in full bloom. The dinner meal was delicious and ample for Kumano Kodo through-hikers. Virtually all Japan accommodation and service is exemplary but Minshuku Chukatsuyu stands out.

If I could give this place six stars I would
One of the most accomodating/friendly and lovely places I stayed in Japan. The hosts were so lovely and very very accomodating, especially when it came to the food - it was a spectacular meal. The outlook sat on the outside seats having a post walk beer is truly lovely, and the Onsen is perfect for tired legs. I would thoroughly recommend anyone stop here when doing the Kumano Kodo.

Super-friendly, quiet haven
This family-run minshuku makes you feel really welcome as soon as you arrive. It's near the entrance to the village when you walk from Takahara and a friendly local called out to us to ask if we were going there and to introduce us to the owner. The rooms are large and comfortable and there's a coin-operated laundry and good Onsen. The dinner we had was superb and accompanied by home-made plum wine. It's in a quiet location beside the river and rice fields.

The family, were so welcoming and kind. They had enough English to communicate and ask questions too. The facilities were simple, but enough for the one night stay. There was a small onsen too which was great after the days hike. The food was amazing! They served us too, which was great for those who aren't too familiar with Japanese cooking styles. お世話になりました。
宿の皆さんがすごく感じよくて、気持ちよく過ごせました。 その日、外国人のお客さんがいらっしゃいましたが、宿のご主人が明るく親切に対応されていて、きっと喜んでいるだろうなと思いました。 お部屋は清潔感がありました。お料理は、夕飯・朝食ともおいしく、量も多すぎず完食できました。 温泉施設はシンプルですが十分です。温度高めでしたが、やはり温泉だと気持ち良いです。 施設内にコインランドリー・乾燥機があるのが、すごく助かりました。 熊野を歩く予定の人がいたら、ぜひ紹介したい宿だと思いました。

Excellent
Service, food of the ryokan was excellent. I arrived early so the ryokan was not open for guests. So the ryokan host dropped me 7 km ahead kobiro toge of kumano kodo by car and I walked back. This way I could arrive to ryokan by time .And next day I took bus to same Kobiro toge and started my trail.dinner was sashimi, nabe and kamameshi .breakfast was English style. you can also plan the next trip with ryokan host. Would have been good if onsen was open in the morning as well. while I stayed I had good conversation with ryokan host on Indians as not many Indians travel by kumano kodo

Room is very large and warm. It's next to the river and have a beautiful view. Staffs are very nice and kind. Food is delicious!!! But the bath is outside, it's cold at night walking to bath.

Fabulous hosts and food
Minshuku Chikatsuya is a little 'home away from home' - with an onsen if you don't have one at home - on the banks of the Hiki-gawa river which can be seen from the dining rooms. The rooms are clean and comfortable, ditto the onsen (in a separate building), the food some of the very best on the trek but the highlight the wonderful family who welcome you to their lodgings.

This was the highlight of my time on the Kumano Kodo. Beautiful amazing location right next to the river, lovely clean room and very warm friendly happy family service. Swim in the river then a hot bath onsen invigorating! The meals were exceptionally exceptional! Hope I get a chance to go back again one day and I'll tell my friends.

Such a lovely place to stay!
We were drenched to the bone when we arrived here! The family was so lovely and friendly, and it was great to be able use the washer and dryer since everything we owned was wet! The onsen was great - just what we needed! The food was local, really fresh and delicious, the home made plum wine wonderful, and our lunchboxes the next day tasty!

Beautiful place at the river. Large and comfortable room. Relaxed and nice atmosphere. After hiking the Kumano Kodo the hot onsen was perfect. Excellent meals cooked by the landlady, one of the best we had in Japan!! Very helpful and nice family. I would choose this minshuku again!

The dinner was very good. The breakfast was very ordinary (one hard boiled egg, croissant, fruits, coffee). The lunch box was horrible! There were two pieces of rice rolls, which were really dry and tasteless. And one orange. But the view from dining area was beautiful. The onsen bath was horrible, just a white-tiled area. No charm.

歩いた後の温泉は格別いいものでした。欲を言えば、朝も入りたかったが、朝利用できないのは、沸かす必要があるからでしょうか？ もし、加熱する必要がなければ、朝も利用できるようにして欲しい。 食事は美味しかったです。自然一色の山と川を一望する食堂での食事は、忘れがたい。また訪れたいと思います。

中辺路ルートを歩いて踏破する旅で一泊させてもらいました。夕食が美味しくて大満足でした！アユの土鍋ごはんと温泉のお鍋が歩いて疲れた体に染み入りました。温泉は肌がツルツルになって気持ち良かったです。ただもう少し遅い時間まで入れたらいいなと思いました。 食後に、近露から熊野本宮大社までのルートのことをお聞きできてとても助かりました。初めての熊野古道で次の日に歩く距離が長い予定だったので、１日に歩ける距離やどんな道なのかなど不安な部分があったんですが、いろいろ疑問に答えて頂けて2日目も安心して歩くことができました。ありがとうございました！

食事や翌日の心遣い が大変よかったです 残念なのは歩きたかったコースが通行止めで迂回したので 本宮に着いたときはかなり疲れてしまいました。 余裕を持って 歩くために6時に出ようと思ったのですが宿の方が7時に出て十分大丈夫と説明されたので その案で行動しました。自分達の プランを優先すべきだったと少し反省しています。

Delicious home cooked meals and warm hospitality
Most delicious meal and homemade ume during my entire KKodo trip. The family hosts were most helpful and cheerful to share info and just chat with guests. The washer & dryer were very useful as it had been raining that day. The only drawback is that the walls are quite thin, so I could hear another guest's snoring in the night.

Wonderfully friendly host with a fantastic dinner and lunchbox. The breakfast was a bit westernized with white bread toast, etc. Otherwise it would have been a 5/5. The owners plum wine with dinner was an unexpected treat.

Lovely clean place, helpful gentle staff, good onsen in the property
I arrived at the property a little bit late since the walk was much harder than I expected. The staffs were really helpful, even though very little English they could speak. The place was clean and the room was quite spacious. Food was great both dinner and breakfast.

Excelent place, and even better food.
An excellent place to spend one or two days. The Japanese room is huge but minimalist (basic furniture). The food was great, both dinner and breakfast (dinner was particularly good, breakfast was more occidental, with bread, fruit and coffee). The host speaks English well and is very funny and enjoys explaining every dish to the customers. His home-made plum liquor is excellent. There are public baths in another building, open the whole day, clean and really nice to use. The only downside is the village itself, Chikatsuyu, rather boring and uninteresting, but an excellent resting place for Kumano pilgrims.

ご主人も奥様も当方の無理をいろいろと聞いていただきありがとうございました。食事もお風呂も満足です。1点だけ気になったのが、部屋に金庫（貴重品入れ）がなかったことです。離れの浴場に入浴に行く際に貴重品の置き場に困りました。来年も熊野古道に来ようかと話しておりますので、その節はまたお世話になりたいと思います。ありがとうございました。

ご飯美味しいです
温泉を使った鍋、アユの炊き込みご飯がおいしいです。翌日のおにぎりにしてもらいました。温泉もつかれた足に優しい温度で、つるつるした肌触りがとても良いお湯でしす。宿の皆さんの温かい接客にも癒され、利用して本当に良かったと感じました。おすすめです。

Welcoming minshuku
We arrived early and soaking wet. Our hosts had set up a room for us to dry our clothes and back packs. Very comfortable and clean family-run accommodation with river views and a beautiful onsen. Our evening meal and breakfast were both excellent- high quality, delicious and varied Japanese food. Our host helped us with maps and suggested walking routes due to wet weather. A great experience.

Minshuku Chikatsuyu
I had a wonderful stay at the Minshuku Chikatsuyu. I spent one night there. The staff was quite friendly. The japanese-style room was comfortable, I really enjoyed the fact that there was some nice, very cold water in a jug waiting for me in my room. The baths are indoors (I personally prefer outdoors ones), but apart from that they were clean, so I guess it was still very good. The dinner I ate there was really wonderful. It is really a great way to discover japanese food (honestly I hadn't eaten such a nice meal for a long time!). In the morning I had a western-style breakfast with fruit, which was good, too. I have to add the village is very beautiful. At dawn on the kumano-kodo from gyuba-doji, it looks very nice. Loved it all. Totally worth it.

鮎は生臭いイメージがありましたが、ちかつゆでいただいた鮎料理は本当に美味しく、びっくりしました。また、温泉水を使った鍋料理は初めて食べましたが、こちらも今までに無い味でしたが、とても美味しかったです。更に ちかつゆの方にはいろんなことを教えていただき、感謝しております。おかげさまで、より一層、楽しい旅行にすることができました。

A very nice stay

Great stop on the Kumano Kodo hike. Fantastic hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Some of the best food in Japan - excellent home cooked meals and nice quiet dining near the river. Room and Minshuku is fairly basic overall but clean with nice amenities. Great location: right off the trail; easy to find; on the river; short walk to town, grocery store etc.

The owners are very helpful. As I reached the intended destination at 1100 hours, I followed his suggestion to have lunch nearby and go for a further 2 hour hike before catching a bus back so that I can start the following day at the bus point (shorten the next day trip by 2 hours). Very glad that I followed his suggestion.

親切

嬉しい民宿でした

桜の季節がベスト
中辺路を歩く中間で宿泊しました。部屋は普通の民宿ですが、川沿いのロケーションと別棟のお風呂はとても気持ちがよかった。盛りを過ぎた桜が舞、お風呂からお花見ができたのは初めてです。

楽しい旅行になりました
滝尻から１泊２日で本宮まで歩くための宿泊場所として利用しました。 川沿いの静かな風景の中に宿があり、歩いた後の温泉は気持ちよく、夕食の温泉水の鍋はとってもおいしく...快適でした。 中辺路を歩くのは初めてだったこと、私たちにしては距離が長いことに大変不安を感じていましたが、オーナーの方が丁寧にコースを教えてくださり、（迂回路でぐったりしましたが＾＾）無事本宮に着くことができました。ありがとうございました。

Great place to stay!
Lovely place to stay and very convenient for Kumano Kodo hikers. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Lovely main guest room where you can chat with other guests while eating. The room we slept in was spacious and lovely. Would definitely stay here again.

民宿はほぼ初めて泊まりました
夕食で出たアユ御飯は絶品でした。翌日も小広王子まで車を出して頂き大変楽しい旅でした。壁が薄いので、隣の部屋の音が筒抜けです。でも良い方（女性の一人歩き）で意気投合しました。お風呂が8時半までなのがやむを得ませんが残念。おにぎりとバナナ、蜜柑は楽しい山の昼食になりました。

とても親切なご夫婦がやっている民宿
ご主人、奥さんとも、とても人柄が良い。料理もおいしかった。地理的にあのレベルの民宿はハイレベルな方ではないだろうか。敢えていうならば、外からのお客さんが入れるお風呂の時間を制限してほしい。人が多すぎて、浴槽に入れなかったり、洗い場の場所がなかったりする。近所の人たちも一杯、来ているようだった。

The owner and his staff, which included his wife and daughter, expended great effort in making sure my stay was comfortable. The room was comfortable and the dinner was very good. However, the boxed lunch was a little sparse, and the rate that I was charged exceeded what was on the in-room information sheet by about 3,000 yen. Nonetheless, I very much enjoyed my stay.

Great place to unwind after a long day's walk!
The staff were very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the area and trails. The rooms were nice and roomy, very clean and new. The dining room was next to the river and it was great to have a relaxing meal after a nice long soak. I'd love to come back one day!

すべてよし。不満点何もなし。では、コメントにならないのでしょうね。まずね、雨に打たれて付いた玄関先の対応。専用の物干し台を用意してくれ、タオルを何枚も出してくれました。古道歩きをフォローする説明。買ってきた梅干しも喜ばれました。なんと温泉のすごいこと。身体の芯までほぐれました。料理もこだわりの逸品尽くし。翌朝の出発地までの送迎付き。部屋の窓には満開の桜。欲を言えば、地ビールあれば良かったな。

Minshuku chikatsuyu
This was an excellent experience on all levels. The owner of the minshuku was extremely kind and helpful while we stayed there. He introduced us to all of the aspects of each of our meals which were delicious and helped us plan out our next day of hiking. It was an unforgettable experience and we would go back in a heartbeat. The hospitality was excellent. As a side note the owners of the minshuku in tsugizakura were also extremely kind and generous. My wife and I accidentally hiked 3 km past chikatsuyu and they offered and drove us back to the minshuku in chikatsuyu. It was an extremely kind and generous gesture that we appreciated very much.

年末に一泊させて頂きました。 静かな所で、かつ観光客が多くない時期だったため、ゆっくりと過ごす事ができました。 そのため、対応も丁寧で、色々と教えて頂きました。 温泉は宿の離れにあるため一度外に出なくてはいけませんが、お湯は源泉かけ流しらしく、トロミがありとても良かったです。 また伺いたいと思います。

翌日の歩行ルートの相談にのってもらい、バスのダイヤ、道路状況、天候予測など詳細に解説していただきました。食事も温泉水の鍋など、特色があってよかったです。

Friendly stay on our trail to Hongu
We stayed one night in the Minshuku Chikatsuyu. The room where clean, the owner very helpful and friendly and the food delisious. It was perfect after a short day hiking from Takahara to arrive and find a hot onsen where you could soak in an enjoy the hot water. We can just recommand the Inn to anyone on his way to Hongu. If it is only a short walk from Takahara to Chikatsuyu and you could march quite further. But if you really enjoy the walk and climb one or two hills on the way - it is worth to stay there. Thank you Beat and Kathrin Psssst they serve a homemade Ume which you should miss

Nice tranquil stay
Although the architecture is not particularly appealing, the location by the river, the food and the kind staff made my stay very pleasant. It's better to use the onsen before down enjoying the view over the river.

お世話になりました
中辺路１日目の宿としてお世話になりました。 暑い日で疲れて到着して、部屋に用意してあった氷入りのお水が最高にありがたかったです。 お風呂も広くて快適ですし、アユご飯も最高でした。 おかげさまで２日目も歩き通すことができました。 ありがとうございました。

Great food, and refreshing onsen after walking Kumano Kodo
The couple who runs the place are very nice, and their home cooking excellent after a long day's walk. We had been hoping for an onsen outdoors, but having one indoors right next to your house is still pretty good for an evening bath. Gorgeous location right next to the river. Easily recommendable.

熊野古道中辺路、途中の宿に使わさせて頂きました。 翌日のプランについても提案いただき、とても助かりました。 温泉自体もさることながら、それを利用した食事など思い掛けず素敵なものに出会えて疲れが和らぎました。 ありがとうございました。

Positives: Very wellcoming and lovely hosts. Immaculately clean accommodation. Delicious food. Lovely spot next to the river and cherry trees. I loved staying there. Potential negative: Some people might not like the fact one has to walk across the yard to get to the showers. I did not mind it.
