 Description

Ancient Trail Rest Stop

Minshuku Takahara Kameya, which just recently opened its doors, follows in the tradition of rural lodging in Takahara for weary pilgrims along the ancient Kumano Kodo. The name "Kameya" comes from one of a long line of ancient lodgings that existed in the area, tending to the needs of travelers on their sacred journey. Kameya features wholesome, flavorful handmade cuisine with garden-grown seasonal vegetables, eggs from free-range chickens, and local ingredients, highlighting their natural taste. Situated on an overlook where sometimes a sea of mist appears in the valley below, it is a peaceful rest, perfect for Kumano Kodo travelers walking a couple of hours up from Takijir-oji.
