Excellent hospitality - very good!

Our room in the guesthouse was very comfortable and clean, with wonderful views of the ocean and sound of the waves to fall asleep to. We enjoyed our meals in the common dining room prepared by two very kind women, surrounded by a large manga collection (available to read at the guesthouse). The bath was simple but clean. This guesthouse was a little out of the way, so you need to make sure you check the bus and/or train timetables in advance. However we were easily about to navigate and travel back and forth. It's location wasn't a problem for us and we enjoyed walking to and from the station and the bus stop. It is only one stop on the train to Kumano City. This is a one man train so you pay the driver or at the next station and take a ticket from the machine in the middle of the train, as you get on.

Functional basic business hotel few km short of Hano no Iwaya. Completely adequate value. Wi-fi little iffy, but at least it's there. No dinner provided, so necessary to plan ahead and self-cater at combinis or markets en route. Breakfast home-cooked, delicious, served graciously.
