Fine dining in a quiet place on Kumano Kodo Path

The owner Tetsu-san is a unique person and a great chef! He explains all the ingredients and the area enthusiastically. The dinner and breakfast he prepared was unmatched. Also the launch box, which, normally you would expect something ordinary, but even the lunch box was with full of details and colors. The accomodation is right on Kumano Kodo Nakahechi trail. There are 2 spots where you can see a great sunset view. If you are lucky, you can see the wild monkeys around. The place is huge. Big enough for multiple people stay. It is a traditional old Japanese monument, the interior is classic. After sunset only sound you will hear around is the night itself. The accomodation is not in Chikatsuya centrum. After Chikatsuya you have to walk (ascending) about 2-3 km more at least. Great place to stay in, strongly recommend!

This was our favorite accommodation because the owner was so friendly and helpful. The accommodation was traditional style and the bathroom while clean was very small. Only downside was that the gas heater was smelly and so we had to turn it off but then got very cold. The meals were sensational and our host explained everything we were eating. Highly recommend this accommodation.

Wonderful minshuku with a great host!

The host, Tetsu, is a very interesting person. He renovated the historical house to start this minshuku, so the house is very beautiful and elegant. I was in love with the house but it might not for people who wants a more modern room. Tetsu was also a farmer who grew different things and used them for the dinner and breakfast. And I have to say he is also a wonderful chef. The best part of this minshuku was the location. It's on a mountain top with very few other houses nearby. We were lucky to have a clear sky the night we stayed, and the stars and sky we saw was spectacular! Thank you for having us at your minshuku Tetsu san!

Excellent Kumano Kodo Experience!

The care and thought put into the experience here was exquisite. The rom was incredible with the carpentry redone with great care to keep the authentic Japanese inn style, with many amenities included. The food was incredible with much of the food coming from the local area and farm of the owner. The hospitality and friendliness of the owner makes you feel very at home and welcomed. I highly recommend!

Brilliant choice - highly recommend

Beautiful large comfortable house. Classy zen entrance, lovely receptions & bedroom. Wonderful view. Stunningly good food. The owner is a chef and the dinner was just wonderful. As was the breakfast and the bento box. The owner is also a delight - what a very nice man, who really cares. The bathroom is a bit more basic but hey it works. Cannot recommend this place more highly.

Amazing Japanese homestay with organic produce and mountain views!

Tetsu-San made us feel very welcome on our second night on the Kumano Kodo. He has restored the traditional Japanese house with such skill and care. The house has beautiful antique furniture, tatami mats, paper sliding doors and views across to the mountains. The house was warm, clean and comfortable. He also shared with us his organic gardening tips, insights about the surrounding landscape and his homemade cooking. The dinner and breakfast he cooked, with homegrown and local ingredients, were absolutely amazing! The dinner was particularly memorable and made with such love and care. A meal I will always remember! The lunch he provided for the next days walking was so good also. Highly recommend Minshuku 3rd Place for any walker on the Kumano Kodo trail!
