Homey Stay
I have never slept so hard and comfortable than on the pillow and futon that they had at this guesthouse. Food was incredible, we got to eat dinner with the host's mom (she was the original host until her son took over duties), and had rice from their fields as part of our meal. Bath was needed after a long day. They did not have very good reception inside the house and no wifi, but if you step outside about 10 ft under a roof you would get decent service. I would come back to this town in the fall/summer to see how everything bloomed and the town in motion (and not during a typhoon).

The village is nearly empty. This means in some years the whole area will be not possibel to stopover for a night. This will be a critical path for the loss for this part of the pilgremage way. You should be aware that you will loose a main tourist attration in the next years, wenn these kind of Minshuku will close. You should act fast.

Rediscovering the Prestige of Yesteryear
A messy house makes a very bad impression when guests arrive. After a cold welcome, people were nice and friendly. Toilets and sink were very dirty. Meals were all great. Wishing both of you good health !

We were warmly welcomed into their home.
The owner and his mother greeted us warmly. We enjoyed watching the documentary from a few years ago about the minshuku and the surrounding area. The food showcased local ingredients and while the food was not completely vegetarian, my husband managed as they were plenty of vegetarian elements. We really appreciated the tasty lunchbox including a few welcome sweets. The owner was also very helpful in helping us use the washing machine. Our room was a lovely tatami room with plenty of hanging space and classic decorations.

As if i were a livestock
We were forced to eat dinner before 16h30 just because everyone was there in rounge room. In other places, at C/in, we could request time for dinner & BF. I felt one of their livestock. In toilet, there was cobweb, washhandbasin area full of mold, not at all hygienic. Two o'clock at night, it was so noisy for prepapation. In early morning, shouting to call her son. There was no consideration at all. To sam up, there was no hospitality n I would never go there again.

Wonderful homestay in the Japanese countryside
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Minshuku Mandokoro. This is a basic farm stay in a lived-in farmhouse in the rural Japanese countryside. Do not expect glamor or the same level of privacy you would have in a business hotel. You will be sharing space and facilities with the family who lives here. Wi-Fi is nearby but not available in the farmhouse itself. The host family speaks little to no English, but Google translate makes communication easy with the correct language packs downloaded, and it helps to know some basic polite Japanese words and phrases. The food was delicious, made with fresh local meat, eggs, and produce, and the portions were generous enough to satisfy after a long day of hiking. An excellent choice for hikers seeking authenticity over luxury. We hope to return again someday.
