Kumano TREK, English Speaking Guides

 Description

This guided walking tour is from Takijiri-oji to Takahara settlement.  Takijiri-oji is the spiritual entrance to the sacred Kumano mountains.  It is the most common starting point for pilgrimage walks on the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo.

The walk is relatively short but has some steep climbs.  The trail is a mixture of dirt, tree roots, stone steps, and cobble stones.  It is in the forest for most of the time with a couple of panoramic lookout spots.

Your local English speaking guide will introduce you to the history and culture of the area.

The tour finishes in the beautiful settlement of Takahara overlooking the mountains.  Most people choose to stay at one of the accommodations here (reservations highly recommended), or continue down the mountain to the Kurisugawa bus stop to transit back to Tanabe or towards the Hongu area.
