Kumaano Farm and Guesthouse
This place was absolutely amazing. A riverside stay, excellent food, warm hosts, and a beautiful location in the misty mountains. I would stay here for a week. The accommodation was rustic, and showering outside among the forest was amazing. The owner and his wife were warm and patient with non Japanese speaking guests. The food was incredible, and the experience was like visiting a family member. Highly recommend, and will stay there again.

Best stay in Japan!
This is such an amazing and special place to stay! A beautiful traditional farm house for yourself, between the Mountains and next to a river, a fairy tale location! You can use the outdoor onsen, as well as the river for a cold plunge, with amazing views. Our hosts were so kind and welcoming and made the best meal with almost everything grown in their own garden and fields. In the morning, our host played us a song on his traditional horn, to wish us safe travels. It was magical! Highly Highly recommend this stay to all Kumano Kodo travellers, one of our highlights of Japan!

Best accommodation of my 3 weeks trip to Japan
Perfect stay with the perfect hosts. The food was absolutely amazing, with almost everything lovingly grown by the hosts themselves. And I can’t forget the incredible homemade plum liqueur! A truly heartwarming stay in the beautiful Kogushi Valley, offering such an immersive and authentic experience. It was the perfect fit for my Kumano Kodo pilgrimage—a place where I could slow down, connect with the surroundings, and experience the warmth and generosity of the local way of life. I’m incredibly grateful for this memorable stay and would happily come back.

We didn’t have any particular expectations, we chose this place almost by chance. But—wow! An incredible welcome in a beautiful traditional house. The food was authentic and absolutely delicious, too. Kudos to the owner!

Cannot recommend enough!
This is such a special stay. Nilab and Asa are the kindest and most interesting hosts and care for their guests in such a considerate and generous way. The location is the most beautiful place we stayed on the Kumano Kodo - we wanted to stay longer! We have the most wonderful memories. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

Fantastic guesthouse and host
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kumaano. The hosts were very warm and welcoming, the guesthouse has loads of character and the food was great. We really appreciated the hosts tailoring the food to our preferences. The rural location of the guesthouse is beautiful. The pickup and drop off from Koguchi was smooth and easy.

It’s impossible to be negative
Asa was the funniest and most generous person I met on this trip. Quite literally risking her life to show us how to enter the river, she made a very strong impression. Her food was divine, and her generous portion sizes almost made us all burst by the seams. The rivers thunderous presence quickly lulled me to sleep. The bathing was in a cold mountain river followed by scoops of hot water was far from luxurious but I honestly wouldn’t have had it any other way. The generous prayer for our continued journey was unforgettable.
